I think fuel should go back to being random prizes in ranked matches.
I think it should be random chance for every player to get from 25 to 150 fuel, no matter which place they finished.
Maybe a base chance of 2% and add 1 more per rank bonus. So if you got 5th place you would have a 5% chance to win fuel. Or if you got first you would have a 10% chance. This way it would still be elusive and rare, and more of an attraction to "just play one more".

Now that Leviathan is real, this would be a really great way to get players onboarded.
Go in and play, knowing you suck and don't own anything, but not willing to spend yet. Get lucky on your 5th game and win 50 fuel and now you can do 2 stage 1 runs to acquire some illuvials and gain some experience on your team.. then jump back in Gauntlet a little better equipped and hitting that slot machine for some more fuel.

Before long they have a taste for more, and they spend on ADR and OW runs and buy / sell some critters and we have revenue.

Ascendant was a really cool concept and I think it could have evolved into very interesting and unique experience. The old mode was too stiff though. No rng, no thinking on your feet and no real tension.

That said I'd actually support going ascendant over gauntlet. The mode is a better fit for illuvium imo

I actually think this is a great idea!

If playing ranked arena give you a small chance to win a small fuel prize, you give new players a way to acquiring some Illuvials to get started on a team, without having to spend anything, but if they like the game, they are very likely to start spending on getting a better team. (this is also a similar concept many mobile games use to get people "hocked"). We need something like this for sure.

I am also going to try and incentivize onboarding the community by randomly popping a lobby code into the discord and offer a decent illuvial as a prize.

Maybe like a 85 tpi Atlas for the most creative water team in the top 3 of that match. Silly stuff, but fun.

All it takes is a taste. Once someone gets that good illuvial, now they look for it in the arena, and get exited when they find it. Then they want more!

The Fuel is "free" but can obviously be used to buy Illuvial either from OW or ADR... but the amount that can be obtained this way will be so low that it should not matter... and if the player end up getting more Illuvials from marketplace or more runs, it's only going to be a positive.

If you know the Gauntlet game well, I'd suggest playing in Casual a few times to get used to the way things work now, and once you get back in the swing of things, jump into ranked. Ranked is Leviathan now, it gives you base illuvials by default, but if you own some from OverWorld then it will use those instead.

If you are an OW player, go catch / level some good stats critters. You can use them on your team, or sell them on the market to pay for more OW runs.

Another great feature is going to join a match that is running as a spectator. It is as if you are in the game so you can click and hover and zoom around and read all the things. I learn a lot watching people that know what they are doing lol.

Check out who's playing live and get the code to a game in progress. Enter that in-game to join their lobby.

It depends on the build im working on. If its like collossus you have to roll early because those are T1 and 3, but if you are more fighter and want to get that phosphorus in, you have to get your levels at good pace and still have gold.

You can see what build people used in their games on datakingz , and if you have a team you want to learn, you can find someone that is winning with that build, and then just watch for them in live games and use the code to spectate and see how they play that build. It really helps you understand the connections and timings.

Well the evolution of that is there in game. when you hit the Arena button to enter that game mode, hit "T" for team planner and you can build and save teams there. If you have one enabled, then during the game, when one of those guys shows up in the shop, it has a little marker at the bottom of the card.

Also in there is Ownership. In there you can select which of you guys should be prioritized in the shop. By default, if picks your highest level that you own for that unit. In here you can select a different one, so if you got a really great stats one that is level 20 and want that to be played instead of your low stat level 25, bam!

Yes, the client and server are not sync'd. They both run the battle independently. Also, the server thinks you suck, so it treats you worse than your client does.

So lets say there is an Illuvial that I want to catch, and it costs 75. I would want to keep 76+ energy so I can get 2 chances to catch it, with about a 50% chance. Right? So I play very lean.. Juussst enough to win the match and conserve my energy.

Match plays out, I win, Ranger and another unit on the board. Yay! What? NOOOO, the game spit me back at the spawn, no chance to catch the critter, no exp but still down all those powerups that I applied liberally to win that.

It thinks I lost. So, I lose. I think I have probably lost dozens of chances to catch things, and many thousands of exp that I would have had.

I play lean when I am grinding too. Play the minimal number of units i need to win so the exp is more for each critter. So that is kinda my fault for doing it anyway even though I know there is a good chance that I will lose even if I win. If you put another unit on, and really just wreck them, its safe. But each guy gets less. I dunno.

It's not something they will fix because OW autobattler is on it's way out so we just have to push on through it.

I think another month of rewards would have been nice since i think lots were waiting for a leaderboard reset to get stuck in (levi changes came in with saturated leaderboard). But otherwise i can see why they had to make this decision

Not at all. That attempt was known it's not going to work. We tried to approach it from web2 and entertainment perspective, against a behemoth like Riot and TFT. That was never going to work, and I don't know who supported it in their right mind. It just ended up being another huge extraction for nothing, even worse than the airdrop campaign. Even if the tournaments and worlds gained hype and traction, there is nothing to keep new players in and engaged. It was a waste of time and resources, and was absolutely known it's not going to work. Don't know who are the advisors on this.

If you read my tree collection proposal, I've shared my opinion on how to keep both modes going, rework rewards and keep new and current players engaged, while stimulating revenue and acting as a deterrence to multi accounting at the same time. It also opens up a slight path to a large dormant p2e community, depending on how the proposal is approached and executed. It covers pretty much most of the issues around monetizing Gauntlet and would work very well with any future game using illuvials. It's using all of our strengths, including web3 stuff. Because if you will be compete only based on fun and gameplay, good luck. That kind of mental is why we are stuck in a position of "only hard decisions left".

It works with other genres, but not here. You have too many obstacles to overcome to bring any of the players here. We need to provide them with a better experience than TFT for that to happen. Although Gauntlet is good now, we are very far away from it.

Then Gauntlet is not really an optimal mode for getting players interested into collecting. Unlike Ascendant, where you could progress gradually through improving your teams, in Gauntlet you pretty much need all of them with good stats from the get go. I can go on, the point is we need to add alot more juice that is scalable to a large playerbase and keeps them engaged. Top 100 rewards of which 40-50 benefit, were never going to do anything onboarding wise.

That's why we need something to rework them in a more scalable and gameplay/fun oriented way. The tree "thing" was my suggestion, happy to discuss other ideas too

We can agree to disagree, but I don't understand the logic. We agreed that Ascendant is better suited for Levi, and thus for revenue. Meaning, Gauntlet was chosen for onboarding purposes. Which it failed to do. Meaning it was not the right decision, because it didn't achieve any of it's objectives, although being a relatively good game. If it can't onboard and get players to spend in the eco, what was it's purpose? Ascendant was far from a guaranteed success, but it had much better chances imo, especially if fully finished.

Web3 gaming projects fail for the same reason. They are mostly get-rich-quick-worry what to do later schemes and it shows. For the most part they rely on some ponzi schenenigans around token selling p2e. That nonesense is not sustainable, and never going to work. Combine that with garbage gameplay with 0 vision, and you get the results in this area. Illuvium, unlike those, has a much higher quality product and actually has a chance to achieve it's vision with the right direction. That's why I wouldn't want to compare to everyone else in this space, that does little besides a little self pat on the shoulder.

For the rewards the faster we have something like this the better. It works similar to a VP system indeed, and would have worked greatly with a fully developed city builder/castle fight Zero. That being said, it will scale nicely with Gauntlet and the MMO too. Adds more utility and purpose into owning illuvials and further improving your collection. I'm not saying players will come just for that (some will for sure), but it's a very necessary piece of the puzzle.

I always agreed with your overall idea of the Collection tree, it's clearly missing from the game. I also strongly believe the Arena still have great potential and can also generate revenue. Gauntlet might be a bit niche, and Ideally we also need to get a Survival and Ascendant mode added. (that's a lot more appealing to a broader player base, especially if we can get it on mobile). • Leviathan is the right way to go, and can easily cp-exist with F2P modes.
• we need some form of Ascendant and Survival
• Leaderboard Rewards are important, but should only be in Fuel/cosmetic, and rewards a larger number of active players.
• Tournaments are also important, but big tournaments that have cash prices should be less frequent and also reward more participating. (but should align with active players, paying out top 16 players in a tournament is not going to bring in a lot of new players that are willing to spend)
• Smaller sit&go tournaments in the weekend would be a nice addition.

My hope is, we can keep developing arena to some degree, while the focus is clearly on the MMO.

But it's not a fair comparison. The amount of work and effort put in Ascendant before it was scrapped was negligible compared to what was put into Gauntlet. You can't use that logic on Ascendant. That's like giving up on Gauntlet after it's first iteration, which was quite terrible tbh, unlike now.

Opinions are opinions, but for our collection based model, and revenue distribution model, Ascendant would've worked better for sure. How much better depends on alot of things, but it would be better. For at least a dozen good reasons.

hmm from memory there was some fundamental flaws in a 1v1 autobattler (coin flips in both positioning and team choice). I wrote feedback on suggesting fixing these by moving to a 4 man or 8 man lobby like tft and feel like it was still a 6-12 months after that of continuing to try 1v1 mode. I only say 1v1 might be better for levi because you dont need to fill a whole lobby, wont feel like you need to buy every illuvial and can field your favourite illuvials without worrying about rolling shop to find it

We can get around the flaws, and create something unique. It's better than Gauntlet for so many other reasons than just that. Someone can buy a few illuvials, combined with a free weekly rotation and start playing. Then they like what they see, start improve their teams and expand their collections. They can play everything on demand. In Gauntlet you can spend 50 bucks on an illuvial, which is the price of a AAA game and not be able to play it for a few games, to benefit from that ownership. You don't have such problem in Ascendant. You can start the game slow, and compete with what you have collected so far. You are not at a disadvantage for not having ownership of all 200 illuvials with good tpi as well straight from the get go. The 7-10 min quick format games would help too. Faster queues. We can go on

Can surely expand on that and build something more advanced, but I think this would be fairly easy to make.

It definitely needed more love. I often felt we should be playing with an entire collection, being able to pull units on demand, depending on what you are facing. Then it becomes a game of rock paper scissors through the hyper system. Then we add more rng elements into the game, not through illuvials.

I always felt we were too conservative developing Ascendant, we still used TFT did this TFT didn't do this logic. Apart from augments rng, we can also have in-game abilities to use during combat. Rng with weapons. Rng with weapons effects. Rng with battle board effects, that provide combat bonus to different units and builds, thus forcing people out of stale metas. Some examples, obviously needs a ton of work to brainstorm rounds and everything else, but there is a way.

Yeah, you can check it, I played it for few years it's quite fun for a small game. It's 4v4, 8 lanes, players can build solo or in duo, something like auto battler building mechanics. Then 40 waves of basic, pre determined monsters spawn (the Survival part), which you have to defeat. And both teams can also send further "mercenary" units to each other with auras and stuff, that give you more income each round. It's quite fun and I can see it work for us as a mini game

• 1% Bonus per Level. --> Level has no caps, but up to lvl 60 is doable, then prestiges begin. Level 60 to 61 is same effort as lvl 1 to 60. (One could say 60% lvl bonus, but that wouldn't be true as if you hit prestige you will be earning 1% bonus per prestige after that).

For Bots & Ranger, long story short:

Ok so now a Bot plays Illuvials with lvl 1 and 0 TPI
Which makes bots weak, and we should give them something to become competitive.
But each lobby is different and a high collection lobby will need bots with stronger illuvials than a shitty collection lobby.
For that, each game, the bots will use Illuvial ownership equal to the average "strength" of that lobby.
This strength is measured with the AAO (Average Active Ownership, a metric we will give more info in the future). Which picks each Illuvial type (Line & Stage) and check which ones are the Illuvials each player is using in that game.
From that, a mean for level and TPI is calculated, and then the bots will use Illuvials according to that mean.
For the case of the ranger, instead of measuring the AAO of the entire lobby, the system only cares for the AAO of "your" collection.
If your active collection sucks, your ranger bonus will suck. If you have a strong active collection, your ranger will reflect that with better bonuses.
