2 different traits or affinities are sometimes nowhere close in power levels, for example mystic before nerf was so strong that if you just have an appon and a mystic weapon you just got a guaranteed winstreak for 10 rounds off basically nothing, the same way on patches months ago every player in the lobby was going for either toxic scepter or verdant because they were so much better than anything else. And the same way if you built some of the bad weapons on those patches you'd just be burning gold.
So how does the new system work around the autowin and autolose weapons.

The issues that you are pointing out are related to balance, not the game design of the feature itself. All Tier1S2 composites will be very accessible with this sytem, we will adjust their power accordingly.

Same for weapons, we will adjust them so that they all feel strong and feasible from a competitive standpoint.

Will we nail it from the start? Probably not, but we will do our best to adjust them asap if we find some outlayers in the meta.

Right now the only auto win / auto lose we have in the game are the composite chips. Thats not due to balance itself but how we have the feature designed. Thats why we are changing it for the upcoming system, as long as its a balance issue, its fixable. 👍🏻

I disagree with this to a certain extent. There is no such thing as proper balance. Even if you do an excellent job 1-2 weapons will be objectively better than the rest. Ultimately balance gets fixed lots with things like hyper where objective strength still loses to a type advantage.

But still the only way to reduce balance problems is to enable more choice and less rng in decision making.

Maybe a way to reroll your weapon for 2-3 gold before round X could help this just incase U got something that mismatches with the Illuvials available

seems to me that if you want mystic for example it will be very high odds. All you need is 1 empath weapon to show up. Arguably maybe higher odds than trying to reroll compete with everyone else in current set up. If you want it to be no rng than the game is just everyone gets to play best in slot. Better the game be who makes the best of what they get and therefore on average finishes higher each game on climbs

Well yeah. Wanting to feel in control doesn’t make the game good though.

Other games have tried giving much more control and it always leads to stagnation.

I get that you shouldn’t need to be forced into one thing just because of what you rolled.

But remember there are lots of ways to pivot. And it’s about finding a balance.

We will see how it goes. Keep in mind the community will always push for more control but it’s our job to make it fun. Sometimes the community wants more control than what is healthy for the game.

In any case it’s something that we can test out.

Leviathans are big monsters in the world.

That is different from “leviathan mode” which just means “ownership mode”

Hopefully that’s not too confusing.

One way around this idea that you can never have perfect balance is to make many hugely powerful things. That's one of the things we are looking into. Yes, it's always going to be the case that some things are strong, but for us it should be more about strength coming from rarity. If something is stronger it should be harder to hit. The game naturally does this with players being contested.

But also the game is very exponential in power (and will get MUCH more so soon). This means getting winning combos is the important thing. Skilled players will know the best combos and how to counter combos other players have. The result is that it will be harder to reliably WIN matches but it will be easier to Top 4.

THere are other features we are considering but that we don't want to announce because we might not need them and are further down the line. For now, we will see where this heads. I think you guys will see these as massive upgrades in FUN.

Oh absolutely. Its something I'm noticing more and more lately. Eg in Marvel Rivals people complain that Hawkeye is too OP cause he can one shot opponents, but really it only matters if you can execute him well and can be defeated if your opponents care to eliminate him quickly since he has limited mobility.

All to say that I am in favour of everything being strong as shit, which in turn means nothing is, and rely on the contesting mechanics in the game to help balance it.

Yeah I've been an advocate for more restrictions. This is a good one but I'd also like to see some limitation to moving your entire board every round. Side swapping is less of an issue at the moment, but its still always on my mind.

I totally get it. I see Octius as a Psion more than anything, and something that naturally does 2x the damage of Squizz.

But really with even 1 not shit augment, 5-7 psions, Octius can do serious work. It synergises with Augments quite well too because its the only Illuvial with a natural double cast. And 90% of the Augments have an on-cast effect

The problem is that for the people who do play a ton and do have it memorized it would get boring quickly if it were slower.

What I would like to see, when we have enough players to do it, would be to be place with people similar to your ranking and have different times in each - like a Beginner, Advanced, Expert mode using time to differentiate. Give beginners lots of time to place and read augment cards. Give experts a fast paced game.

For beginners, it might be more difficult because there are many paths to take, but over time, it gets better—I experienced the same thing myself.

There is a definite learning curve to the game. I am a noob. I didn't used to have time to play games. I have a rank of like 880 or something like that, I come on and get beat as I try to learn. I don't expect to be great quickly, especially with limited playing time. I thought I played lots until I saw what other people put on in hours. 🤣 I feel like it is OK to lose and OK to have to really work on getting better. I am still confused on augments but every time I play I try to pay attention to differences and learn. I am here to beat myself not someone else. If I beat myself every time eventually I will start beating others.

I am trying to figure out if there are more people like me in the gaming community or more people who will just get disheartened and not play again. I honestly don't know.🤔

Yes, it will help in Gauntlet Leviathan and Ascendant Leviathan modes. The higher their stats and level, the stronger they are in the game.

In the future, if Survival Leviathan mode is introduced, your Illuvials will become useful.

Let’s consider an example:
You have only Goliant in your wallet, but no Scarabok and Titanor.
For instance, your Goliant is level 25 with average stats.

This means that in Leviathan mode, your Scarabok will be level 1 WITH NO stats, Goliant will be level 25 with average stats, and Titanor will be level 1 WITH NO stats.

That’s why it makes sense to have all Illuvials. All tiers and stages.

Seriously Everyone please let me know your thoughts. Has anyone considered cutting gauntlet grouping to 4 instead of 8 for Leviathan mode? Battling 8 rangers every time is massive, and the ascendant fanboys (myself) always liked the concept of a more focused arena. I like the concept of beating 8 people, but match making for 8 is insane. Four players would be quicker matches and feel more personal with my team besting a few others.

I know this sounds like a last minute pivot, but i've though a lot about this, and haven't got much engagement on feedback post. I know, I'm sticking my neck out there, but just a Hail Mary suggestion.

Never considered separating Leviathan in terms of actual gameplay in that way before. Honestly I don't think its worth entertaining the idea just yet, wait for polish and rewards etc to come into it all. After that I definitely think it could be worth looking at.

But 8 players has so many benefits that 4 might be detrimental, it also messes with things like shop rarity, pool quantities etc, and would require significantly more balance changes than you might first expect.
