most of the times it helps to have a controversial topic to get dissenting opinions.

@whole raven thos 20x20 excel charts are precise, but they are not really user friendly. So awkward to read and it is annoying while trying to build a team. Circular charts are way easier to learn cuz we only need to learn the position of each element and can easily deduce the advantage of each element over the other. Inner ciircle is low advantage, Outer circle is bigger advantage. And proximity is also linked to bigger advantage.

@whole raven also in some of your charts, you just lay out all advantages for 1 affinity. To make it easier to read, I'd sort them by intensity of the advantage. Often, we'll only be interested in the biggest advantages/disadvantages

That being said it's designed so that if you set up affinity correctly you can just do a mapping from an affinity to a class and get the exact same tables but it would be class countering rather than affinity countering.

I mean it is hard to find which one should be THE strongest. One could argue that water should be the strongest against fire. But then earth stops fire instantly. We could argue a long time about which should be strong against which.

In the end a lot of combinations can work and seem perfectly logical @quasi thicket

Strong winds can actually stop fires, move water and dirt.

As for the classes, they really do need to be part of the hyper system. It's not as 'real world' as affinities. But hyper is very one dimensional if you don't give people OPTIONS.

If the only way to beat fire is with water/earth that's no good. The other way is to realise that the guy is fire / bulwark and so you can use fighter OR earth

yeah but then if i have a Fire fighter and you have an Earth Bulwark then it gets neutral right ? I'd like to adress 1 concern here :
the more specific the Hyper system's activation conditions are, the less likely players are to play around it in PvP. Because as it is right now, in a PvP scenario trying to position your Axodon to activate your hyper is already very coinflip, if the opponent just swapped his Titanor with his Archeleon you end up doing wrong. now if we add classes to it, i fear that it becomes just too much thought process for a coinflip and that it's gonna be nearly ignored in PvP because i'd rather have a good positionning and board strength than trying to snipe a hyper so difficult to activate reliably.

That's why having weak and strong counters is good. If you play something 'safe' you and your opponent won't get much benefit. If you play something risky you could do well, you could do poorly. There is still a lot of skill in that and it's absolutely not a coin flip. And then when you take into account augments it adds a new layer. That 'safe' pick might be smart because your augment might activate after some time, so extending the match is valuable.

Remember there are two things that this game doesn't have compared to other auto battlers:

Randomness: Getting 'lucky' isn't really a thing. Therefore you have much more agency to pick SPECIFIC strategies.
Unknown opponents: You know exactly who you are up against and what their deck contains. This means that playing 'best board' doesn't make sense. This isn't a bean counter game where the 'meta' build is always strong and you should play the averages. You want to play 'the best board against my opponent' which is very much reactive. If you react poorly you lose, even if you play something that worked last game.

You also get to see the outcome of placing a unit before you do it. When you hover it, you see the counter value over the head of the enemy unit. So you don't need to memorise. You shouldn't be looking up tables.

But absolutely a strong player will look at things like 'if they go X I have 3 options, but the best one will be to go option C because if we do that, even if I'm countered I have augment X and I will bond with unit 2 and that will turn my Ranger into a hyper carry.

When I watch expert level chess players, they draw so much shit on the board showing all the lines that you just cannot imagine how they keep so much info in their head. When I watch pro autobattle players I mainly see 'this is strong now, and I can pivot to X later'. There is some small micro skill in rolling fast and positioning, but it's not very cerebral.

I want our game to be more like Chess where there is deep strategy for the best, and for someone new to the game they can say 'I love fire' or 'I want my Ranger to be tanky so I bonded with Atlas'. Everything should be modular. Learn it bit by bit, and eventually get to the level where you're drawing shit all over the screen.

i thought me and my opponent were making our whole board placement SIMULTANEOUSLY with no view on what the opponent is doing. is it turn based afterall `(like i place 1 unit, you place 1, then me and so on) ?

We still have to try a few options but even in the “blind” version you’ll see your opponents stuff from round 1 in round 2.

I personally think blind might not work. But we haven’t done enough real world testing.

And the ranked mode will change a lot even after open beta as we try to make it perfect for competitive.

this is my concern let's say me and my opponent play these frontlines, we can see here that im (hyper wise) in a very bad spot.
That could be reversed just by moving my units around, but since my opponent can also do so, the "rock-paper-scissor" mindgame resulting from this looks like a coinflip. there's no RNG that's true, but players decisions are just as random if not even more sometimes. See what i mean ?

As of by now, i think blind version is very interesting and i like the mindgame involved into this. I just don't feel like the hyper mechanic will or should be that relevant in PvP.
Hyper mechanic will definitely be key to beat higher ranks in Survival mode tho, but you can only rely on that by the fact that you perfectly know what is placed and where.

On the other hand for the few effects we have so far about omegas and synergies effects, i can already tell that even without the hyper mechanic, what is my best board against one opposing comp, isn't against the same comp with like 2 different units and that's something we can bring from TFT already like to take a very basic example : maybe i'm losing to a magic comp pretty hard but by changing 2 characters to add in 2 enchanters, i actually win the matchup.

Obviously, i didn't get my hands on the game yet (maybe as we get used to the mechanic we'll learn tricks to somehow reliably optimize that) and there's still a lot of missing information or things to adapt over time. Just sharing my actual feeling about the hyper mechanic.

I'm not sure you think the hyper mechanic is not relevant for PVP. I think you can have the same mind games with synergies and omegas in a blind drop. I think it will come down to balance between all the aspects

I'm sure the balancing team will spend extensive time ensuring that the game has a good feel and keeps the competitive nature. If hyper mechanic is too much of the focus I'm sure it will get nerfed and same with the other aspecs.

i 100% agree in all that. my concern is about high level 1v1s the Hyper mechanic might make that since you just "randomly" decided to put your Titanor on the right side and your opponent had their axodon right in front of him, you lose. and then now i have a titanor, you have an axodon i'm 1 life down and there are plenty of options :

1. i switch my Titanor to left side and you didnt move your Axodon (i win)
2. i switch my titanor to left side but you anticipated that and made the same with Axodon (you win)
3. i predict option 2 and then leave my titanor on the same spot even tho i was punished there previous round -> if you didn't think about my options or predicted this exact move you win again / if you did anticipate option 2 i win.
4. i swap my Titanor for a Tempest frontline and set it at the same place as titanor was before and you didnt move your axodon, i win
5. i swap my titanor for a Tempest and place it on left side anticipating you to go option 2 (if i'm right i win, if not maybe i lose)
6. i swap my titanor for a tempest and you swap axodon for an Archeleon (Verdant) once again if i'm in front of him i lose, if not maybe i win depending on what's in front of me.
   etc
   etc

now multiply all these "blind" decisions ending in win/lose by the number of illuvials on board + the changes you and your opponent can potentially make in a round and all the different possible positionings, it becomes just so many options to consider in a very short amount of time that i assume we're just gonna end up focusing on our omegas and general placement, and no time to think about all of these hyper interactions because in the end of the day, if you got "lucky" your opponent did what you expected him to, if not then rip, and as a competitive player you don't wanna rely on that unless you're forced to because you don't see a more reliably win condition

I'm happy to read this. Imma be honest, I was a bit disapointed when I read that you were aiming for very few rounds. I thought that we could not possible haave the time to learn how the ennemy behaves and counter it in few rounds. Hyper became less reliable since I thought you could move your team around quite easily. I started to see a pattern emerge, where we could follow a "meta" of best team composition and I hate that in games.

With reduced options to change AND move pieces, Hyper becomes way more reliable. it can break strong compositions more efficiently. I like to read this. This is more in line with the kind of game I'm looking for: a logic game with evolving strategy

That's absolutely wrong. We will be testing different forms of PvP all the way through until we are out of open beta. We will add game modes, remove some, etc... We are also adding in whole new mechanics over time. For example, the Overworld will use the auto battler as the method of fighting Illuvials at the start, but this isn't the final state. We're planning on upgrading the Overworld continuously.

i can give you an example how release works in a popular online game:

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands "beta" started in July 2020, and the "release" was in October 2020.
Subsequently, we had Patch 9.1, in Feb 2021, we get new contents, such as a new map, a new raid and some changes in the mechanics
Then, we had Patch 9.2, in Feb 2022, we get new zone, a new raid and a final boss.

in between those major patches, we usually get minor patches to fix bugs, rebalance skills, nerf raids, and so on.

Mythic difficulty, a really huge mechanic to the whole dungeon and raid system, was actually introduced in a minor patch of 6.0.2
Mythic+, another huge mechanic change, where teams/guilds can compete for world's first (difficulty and time challenge) was also introduced in a minor patch of 7.0.3

So yeah, you can have a full release, and then add features/fix bugs in patches.

the way i see it, this "perpetual beta" trend, really works for free-to-play/freemium games, because customers cant really complain about bugs or broken mechanics. The game is not "released" yet, the game is still work in progress. For me "perpetual beta" is a leeway, and thats okay

Like you put 3 atlas on the provided cells and it will show you that you activate “3 Energy Regen” for Water affinity and the activated Bulwark ability which I forgot. Haha. Something like that.

Here's the chart that I made myself to know what price it will be for T1 after a X minutes

So on the left the minutes represents the time spent since drop,
The price in ETH at every minute is the blue column,
The calculation area is in yellow where 2% of the price is withdrawn every minute. (The calculus is (x*0.98=Y)
and
in White the price in US Dollar.

Currently 111m$ in sILV2 circulating. If you assume they are all spent then you have 405m in sales. Distributed across approx 7m tokens. You look close to 57$ per ILV staked. But its less likely that all sILV2 is spent so you could say its more than that.
