This goes for any project we are working on. There are literally more than a hundred thousand tasks in our project so far and that will grow to millions over the next few years.

We always work fast but sometimes things change. For example we were really far ahead with v2 staking and then there were changes which have pushed back finalising it.

This is the case for all development not just our project and not just games.

The V-Ray render farm has had multiple issues with the scenes we've submitted cause the shading is unconventional.

The last part, I'd like to add a small disclaimer to. Initially it might be reasonable to expect that shard tiers correlate with illuvial tiers BUT considering the bonding curve, we could very much reach a point where using anything but a Tier 5 Shard on this Tier 4 Illuvial would be unreasonable 🙂

Illuvials at Tier 1+ are on a bonding curve which means that with every copy someone captures of a particular Illuvial it will get harder to capture another copy for everyone until eventually a set is retired and replaced by a new one 🙂

Let's say (HYPOTHETICALLY!) catching this Tier 4 Illuvial with a Tier 4 shard gives you a 90% success chance. If you succeed, the next time someone tries to capture that Illuvial (doesn't matter if it's you or someone else) the chance would not be 90% anymore. It might be 89,99% now. And as more copies are captured, the chances for success to capture this illuvial with any shard drop and eventually you might have to consider to take a Tier 5 shard for that Tier 4 Illuvial to still have a success chance that is reasonable enough to even try 🙂

It is possible in certain situations to capture multiple Illuvials from a single encounter, yes. As far as I am aware, every try makes it more likely to have some/all of them flee though. So you kinda want to go for the one first that you absolutely want because you might not get the chance to try and capture all. How exactly this will play out and what the numbers are etc, I don't know yet and will probably change during beta anyway 🙂

I feel like the unfused illuvials will be the juvenils. The lore should explain it all though. They said the phases and what the illuvials are would all make sense once you understand the lore.
Changing colors for every individual illuvial is a lot of effort and takes away the need for skins, which they have been giving away. Since every illuvial is different. The artist's work would also not be paid if they were making small changes to T0 illuvials while selling skins would give their time significant value.
Im not against small differences, like in Pokemon Male/Female or since pokemon Go Big or Small. But making every illuvial slightly different and having it look good will take a while.

I think the amazing artwork paired with Holographic chances or Dark Holographic chances AND variable stat differences is enough to provide uniqueness from one Illuvial to another. Pokemon has shown that visually can be the same while statically being different, which being the world's biggest IP speaks volumes.

As a gamer, most aren't going to care if their Illuvial has 1/2 inch longer hair than other. But we will care about stats and holographic/dark holographic

I don't believe the intention is for T1 - 5 Illuvials to be incredibly rare as far as I know, aside from the Holos and Dark-Holos. If Rhamphy is an S Tier unit in PVP but only 1% of the player base can own one, you're going to have fairly big issues with balancing and PVP. Sure, your NFT might be valuable, but your game is teetering on non-functional if it's like that for a ton of the Tier 5's. If it hurts gameplay, your playerbase dies out, and it all goes in the toilet. I don't know that Ensuring Rarity for non-holos is even part of the plan.

I believe the intention is that active players should theoretically be able to "Catch em all" and the scarcity and value come from increases to the playerbase after the fact when they can't be caught anymore.

If you draw on the Pokemon example @granite musk uses, assuming you played Pokemon during the base set, there was plenty to go around. It wasn't truly rare until years later.

We don’t have a target supply. And it isn’t theoretically unlimited, it IS unlimited.

The chance of encountering something depends on its weight. If you capture it, that weight goes down. Meaning the next person is less likely to encounter. However that is only relative to the rest of the set.

Popular catches get rarer faster.

But there is no number that we input. We don’t say “there will be X Atlas”.

The rarity comes when they can’t be caught anymore. The more popular the game is, the more will be minted. So supply goes up with demand, ensuring everyone has a chance.

However the chance of CAPTURE depends on the shard, and how many have been captured previously. So they become a bit more expensive over the course of the set.

Supply meets demand, but rising prices affect that curve. The more expensive to catch in the wild, the more people would rather buy from each other, hence limiting the supply and finding a moving equilibrium.

Yes. But because they go up in theoretical price to catch it does put a downwards pressure on what the total will be.

Imagine some crazy scenario where it takes on average 100 attempts at catching rhamphy with the best shard. You use energy to try and capture and that is fixed per travel. And it costs you to travel.

So you might not even try to capture it as it will increase your travel fees by a lot to try. So instead you capture everything else.

Now the weight of other stuff is low, making rhamphy less rare to encounter. So now you think “why not give it a shot” and as such more get captured…and now he’s even rarer, etc.

Whatever it is,it will find an equilibrium. If it’s cheaper in terms of work and money to catch. People will do that. If it’s not, they will buy from the market.

The more are bought on the market, the higher the prices should go. Making it cheaper to try to catch.

What will happen is that volume will increase at the start, and level off at the end of the set. This is ideal.

One thing to keep in mind is that some illuvials aren’t released until later in the set and balance won’t be perfect at the start. Because balance is based off the WHOLE set.

We have the illuvials set up as data files even if we don’t have the set fully done. So we will test them all in beta. Maybe even let people use them with placeholder art. Maybe a cube Slayer.

talking about balance, it made me think, could there possibly be some rebate system related to the bonding curve in order to ease the pain of balancing decisions if at all necessary? It would be far from perfect, since it would be hard to take into account 'collateral' damage done by invalidating certain compositions, but you could compensate players depending on the weighting changes after a balance change. For instance if an Illuvial is highly sought after and thus has a high weighting, when he gets balanced, he might become 'trash' in the eyes of the players and his weighting would go drastically down, the difference between these two weightings could be correlated to any possible compensation to holders of said Illuvial. In this way you ensure some parity between the impact of the balance change and the amount of compensation

I do think it might be handy to think about some sort of compensation system to ease balancing changes, I know the goal is to not have to make any, or compensate perhaps with later Illuvials or a new set, but however hard you try, I think it'd be quite impossible to emulate the collective interactions of millions of players and billions of games played.

People should just take into account possible future balance adjustments, it's a safe assumption if you buy something that is op it will get nerfed, likewise people might speculate on illuvials that are not very useful. I don't think they are aiming for frequent balance changes at all though. I agree it's a can of worms, but the weighting mechanic would place a community decided value upon the damages done by the balance changes which could be a good measure. Then again, if prices of stage 1 Luvi's are cheap enough, this would be far less of an issue

it's mostly a concern for people who are new to the game, buy a 'meta-team' to play and then after balance changes are left with a team perhaps worthless now for the new meta and they could feel like they lost their investment and need to buy a new expensive 'meta-team'

In most online ccg games it's pretty common practice to refund cards which have been nerfed. While not ideal, I think it is better than not doing so. I am sure it's a different story for Illuvium where there is an open market-place but I do belief it will still be an issue for at least some people
