I think the idea is to be DIFFERENT to Pokemon Go rather than to beat it. People like the simplistic style too. It has a pretty strong appeal.

But let's see where people stand on higher end art. I feel like the sort of person that likes Magic the Gathering will like our stuff. those sort of high quality artworks I think translate well to 3d but they are just hard to do.

Why do people need to stop with that? You might be tired of it, but the fact is that a majority of gamers/world population actually likes collectibles and games based upon that are often within a genre that is capable of bridging large age differences as well. There is a huge audience for this out there and no AAA collectible play2earn game does even exist yet. I personally think it was a great decision to go for something like this but still stay unique by going for handcrafted high-quality characters.

The type of game that the overworld is, is much like how pokemon works. You walk around and encounter things, fight them, and capture them.

As far as the art, the idea is to make something that people who grew up playing Pokemon might like. Not to make art like Pokemon. We want to do something for a new generation.

There is 2 main parts of the game... there is the overworld.. which is a 3d open world explorer (it looks freakin crazy and mad fun).

The other part Is the encounters.. or battles..
That is the part that is like team fight tactics.. auto battle style... you and opponent place team on the battlefield.. and they fight it out.

Prepare to dive into some absurd and completely wrong ramblings ||ok so here's my illuviary conspiracy theory... tier 5 illuvials will be able to ascend to a stage beyond stage 3. so like tier 4. making atlas line numbers 1-3 in illuviary; ramphyre line 4-7(!) and 8-11 would be another tier 5 like squizz line maybe. And then archie line would be illuviary numbers 12-14. The only other 3 options that I see are
A. there are 2 single stage illuvials in illuviary as two of the numbers from 7 to 11
B. There is an illuvial line with only 2 stages between numbers from 7 to 11
C. Aaron is playing games with his 3,6,14 (and archeleon IS 012)||

Pretty much 100. Lynxes are far more straightforward to create than other lines so if we didn't have them we'd really struggle to get close to 100 in the timeframe. And the more we have in the first batch the better, strategic depth expands with each additional Illuvial tremendously.

Yeah, what irritates me a lot though is that I still cannot pinpoint what exactly it is that made me throw away any reason and go all-in just after seeing a bit of artwork for Illuvium. Look at this latest Rhamphy leak...it's gorgeous, but what exactly? It looks almost realistic but then it is stylized so that's not it. I actually think what get's me hooked this much is that those Illuvials despite their stylized appearance feel almost life-like. Whatever it is, I just get reassured with every leak that is has to be impossible for this not to become a major hit 🙂

So to put some context on this, this is a bit of a mashup of various things.

  1. This uses the Ranked Arena board in Sanctum Mesa.
  2. This is an encounter, not a ranked match (we aren't there yet)
  3. Encounters have an element of randomness, but we bypassed that to custom make the match: Ranger + Atlas vs Rypterus.
  4. We used our replay system to record this. Hence why the camera pans so smooth. We still have some challenges to solve to get the replay system working in a packaged build, so we aren't committing to it for launch, but it will exist at some point. The idea here is that you can save all your matches, and export them out to YouTube and such. We have the tech, but not with the particular camera that is used here which adds some extra effects.
  5. When you play the battles real time it won't look the same as with replay enabled. But also, this video has compression and on my screen the battle feels pretty much as good in real time minus the blur.

There are a lot of things still to be implemented to get the Combat Engine perfect, so this is definitely Alpha. What I hope comes across in the video is that we don't cut corners. This video is from pretty far away. You can get the camera a lot closer and see amazing details.
