It’s a particle effect done by our lead VFX artist Petr. Each character has some particle effects that are passive (like the fire on its eyes) as well as active VFX that occur during actions like basic attacks (what you are talking about) and ultimate ability (hail of fire).

My theory was that the cataclysmic event span out from the original inhabitants of the world fucking with it too much, and it was nature fighting back. It could explain how Illuvials became powerful and deity like (eating the crazy plants that started to grow) but not where the Obelisks came from. In the trailer, the Obelisk seems to spin out of nowhere from within the water, so maybe there's something there. The glyphs in the walls in some of the art we've seen could contribute to that theory but I've not been able to make much sense of them. I think the Archeleon article also gives some hints, but it's all still very vague. Super intrigued though.. anyone else have any ideas?

Jumping off your idea what if that’s still the case and the people that destroyed the planet also built the obelisks. They were finally activated somehow by the people that are alive now. They were built as a defense system, they harness energy and provide the energy and other support to the adventurers. They could have no been activated before because the event that killed most of the inhabitant happened almost overnight where they didn’t have time to recognize what was going on.

Yea very interesting @leaden kettle and @ocean adder. We shall know soon enough. Aaron's just sat there laughing as we butcher the lore 😅 (sorry mate). Regardless of the what and how, maybe some marketing money could be spent building a suuuper high-end website (think of Hollywood film websites) that captures the essence of the backstory (at least what we know so far) and allows the next 100k people that haven't been here with us on the discord to catch and get as attached as we are. Would be super cool IMO..

I was thinking about something similar to the story of subnautica, aliens that arrived on the planet and started to make experiments and something went wrong and some defense system was activated (which makes the ships fall on the planet) and the illuvials are a expression of the experiments conducted by these beings that occupied the planet before the protagonist fell on it.

Right. And if we are talking for evolutionary reasons it’d be interesting to have strong claws and webbed feet. Strong claws is obviously generally due to the animal using them as defense/movement on land. Usually you’ll see sea creatures with strong jaws and feet to move quick underwater with but this has both. Being a big fucker could just do what it wants. Sleeps in lakes and hunts on land.

Hard to say I'm so confused by him, but he's sweet lol. I'm stuck on lightning tail with webbed feet. I guess nothing against being lightning and water affinity. Maybe it sleeps underwater and when threatened it'll shock the entire body of water and kill everything inside. Maybe lightning shoots out when it hits its tail on the ground

Probably less fluid than what you are imagining (specifically one hitting another). In Autobattlers one of the main things is that they should be able to keep hitting each other unless they are stunned, etc... So you don't see hit reactions because otherwise something would never be able to do any hits of its own because it might keep on getting hit, which looks weird. If you look up Teamfight Tactics or Dota Underlords you'll have a good idea of what being hit looks like. (It's the healthbar going down and some numbers).

The animations for the attacks, taunts, faints, ultimates, this is where we can shine. And honestly, we have a team of animators that rivals anyone. So for example, when Dash does its Wraithstrike, it will look really cool.

I’ve been thinking about this off and on. I’m gonna say Stage one Rypper is not poison affinity. That starts at stage 2 (note the coloring change) Maybe baby rypper is just nature affinity and adds water at stage two to get to poison affinity. Even some basis for this in nature.
