Hey Andre I have run into a weird problem with C4D and its killing me :(.

I've done a Pyro sim and ran a render and it looked fine but it was taking way too long and I had to tweak a tonne of stuff. Anyways I optimised the render setup a tonne, mostly adjusting the automatic sampling settings for Redshift and now all my emmissive objects are black and emit no light (area lights etc). You ever seen anything like this before?

maybe I didn't made myself clear. Usually the best loot/gear in games is the most beautiful aesthetically. I don't see how we'll manage to achieve that with all the amazing skins we have. You beat the most difficult raid boss and equip its gear just to find out your ranger outfit will probably still pale in comparison to the skins.

Agreed, they definitely need to improve, but it doesn't need to be flashy lights. A titanor skin should feel large and bulky, and a Scoriox skin should feel like its got some serious heat beneath the surface. This is what matters more than anything else

hmmm but that's the thing. A skin is not the gear. A Titanor armor should be bulky, not the skin IMO. The way I see it is you could have a bulky Titanor armor piece but then slam it a Scoriox skin and it would not only be bulky but also have a magma effect and possible fire.

They do look different depending on the type of suit but I like that the skins themselves are different by colour/texture. I don't think they should add bulk that should be dependent on suit style.

I do wish we knew the plan with suits moving forward...

But i would love to have skins taking the Material and not only the colour. Like you have a mossy gnarl skin, or a fury lynx skin. AT least for some Part of the skins Like only shoulder fur etc.

I know skins are only supposed to be cosmetics... but I think it would be cool if there where to give a small specialization bonus to the Suit they where used on... like if you use a Titanor skin on any suit, it will give a 10% bonus to base stat on resist & HP of that suit. 🙂

Okay, finally able to circle back to this. Sorry, been a bit of a hectic day.

As far as what kind of inspirations we want to draw from games like World of Warcraft, there's a handful of things that come to mind immediately. The first is the living world feeling, which is definitely something we'd want to emulate. We want our zones to feel like real places you can get a bit lost in and have some meaning to you in your journey. We definitely want to capture a similar feeling to Dungeon and Raid content where you team up with others to take on greater difficulty challenges and bosses in an instanced area, though the exact shape of that has yet to take form. We're aiming for similar world-class storytelling, though likely on a smaller scale, and Im sure there's countless others. When you've worked on a game for almost a decade, it has a tendency to shape a lot of your future decisions.

As far as what we're looking to innovate on, we've got our ARPG combat that we're hoping will provide a more exciting moment-to-moment experience. Our Illuvials are an obvious one, since creature collector and MMO haven't really had much of a hybrid before. And in other ways we're looking to keep things more accessible, allow short-session gameplay for folks without a ton of time, and ease some social transitions to make playing with others feel more like a bonus or default state rather than an obligation.

I know a lot of that is pretty high level without concrete examples, but that's kinda where we are in the designs right now. Each one of these things will be shaped and come more into focus at a different time, so if you're hungry for more details just stay tuned and we'll put them out when that feature comes up in our roadmap.

This is exactly the reason for lower friction multi-player. For example, what if you and another player happened to be fighting the same enemies and you automatically start to gain a passive party bonus with that player. Would that hurt the solo experience or make it better?

Also, you're not in the minority. Most players prefer going their own way for open world content, but I believe there's more organic ways to bring players together than by establishing formal groups

I think Monster Hunter does a decent job. When U open the game U can join a 'recommended lobby'. In this you can play the game normally, alone. But whenever U begin a quest or at any time you can SOS, or even without that, other lobby members can just jump onto your quest and help you out.

We plan on paring back the existing traversal abilities and having them unlock over time, which will create a bit of exploration progression itself. Using this we can also create incentives to go back to zones you previously "finished" because you can reach areas you hadn't been able to before, kinda like how they do in Metroidvania games.

I'm certain we'll want to work in some platforming challenges as well. I was a big fan of light platforming in WoW (like Timeless Isle), and actually incorporated it in a lot my own designs on the team, so it's definitely something I'd like to see.

Its coupled with other restrictions. Plus there's no such thing as eliminating bots, only eliminating the incentive to bot.

For example what if you need to hit level 20-30 to even acquire the Rhamphyre and do other gameplay related things. The bot farm could spend $100 (in server costs or opportunity costs) acquiring a Rhamphyre over 200 days. Or they could go and bot Pixels Online and get the same thing in 10 days, with far less risk.

Botting is basically just risk management. The longer the time horizon, the harder it is to estimate risk for a bot farm.

That's why there was an upfront cost, right?
So even if it gets botted, there's a base value added with the cost of each run.

I love the upfront cost model as well, always have. But unfortunately I'm not convinced it will work. Having a game be playable and draw in large audiences has so many benefits its worth the bots risk.

This just kind of happened after freemium became a thing, honestly I'd say free demo > paid game for $30-40 would be ideal. Or subscription model similar to WoW could work too.

i still feel the demo thing with the t0 is a nice approach to hook people into paid system, is it a subscription model or microtransactions or whatever else.
Could have done the same with ranger progression.
Bottfarms also do risk management i guess... if game gets successful more effort is worth the risk i assume.
But we shall see what gameloop is actually be considered somewhat soonish 🙂

Yeah the problem with the T0 approach is its a bit too shallow. Had we had 300 Illuvials, then I could have seen 20 lines such as 2-3 from Tier 1-5 1s being free and it could have been really interesting.

Until we have that sort of content tho, the T0 sell is tough

You're not wrong. T0 didnt work mostly because of the limited scope of the gameplay. With enough enhancement I could see that same monetisation tactic work.

However collecting your own creatures is still a big part of the games enjoyment. Putting that behind a paywall could kill the excitement.

But as you said, its highly dependant on all the changes.

Best case to get them some good mmo lite content would be, get them to watch the town hall with Kieran, Rich, and the 2 new devs (few months ago I believe it was) and also have a scroll back in the last few months of #💥〕leaks-discussion . There is some really cool stuff that’s been shared! But the town hall they went through a presentation with a lot more in depth stuff for the vertical slice
