It makes no sense to me honestly. An atlas should be an atlas. Why do we even need a set 2 for now? Shouldn't the team be focused on making gaming assets?

and sure you can say Illuvium is a small studio, it can't create different sets every 1-2 years like pokemon. And to that I just say, make the sets in your own pace. If it takes 3-5 years for a second set so be it. It won't be a new set that will make for a better game.

I wouldn't read too much into these, they're just concepts. We regularly do sketches and ideas for things that never happen, or happen years down the line. Whenever it's decided to actively start work on a new illuvial set, it doesn't hurt to have some designs ready to go or some potential ideas to start from. Nobody is taking time away from building the game for this now

I think the lore could help determine whether there is only one atlas more logically via properties of illuvium the planet that result in mututations, though lets be honest, pokemon has variations of lots of pokemon now, not just eevee. maybe not different elements specifically, but there is certainly more variety than there was 20 plus years ago.

concepts are done throughout the process whenever there is time, concept phase sits at the very beginning of anything - sometimes the time between a concept and the actual work starting on it can take months or even a year or more.. the earlier we start thinking things out, the better. Its part of the workflow across departments.

this is why leaks suck i guess.. We share something that artists explore and its treated as if its set in 'stone' phun.

I think a next set of illuvials will have a few recognizable characters return differently - as if from a different region etc. ( I think)
In the sense of - you have a sea turtle and a land turtle.
This is because we think it fits some of the characters - as a counter part that is more aggressive or friendly or majestic, this can fit some of them. Make them feel as really new characters will be the hard part i guess.

Its not because of running out of imagination -_-

But you have to be realistic too - we are not the biggest studio atm and resources are pretty limited - so it will always be a balance of creativity vs. bang for buck.
If some of our illuvials can be turned into very different look and feel characters for 1/4 the cost we should consider it an option.

If non of those factors were a problem,, definitely new characters all the way all of the time. Would love to.

But I think the art department has proven itself a little over the year that we can deliver cool looking things.
I wouldnt worry about it for now. That was just a piece of concept art.

Illuvium's art will be by 'our' hands and qa-ed by us and released when we are happy with it - from what i understood is that the virtuals team wanted to showcase what some of their ai stuff could do. there is a disclaimer in the video stating its not ours and its not illuvium.

But yeh - in terms of ai use and virtuals - it wont be for art , that will be by our own art team.

But the use of it for bots, npcs, content generation and what not seems like a good usecase we can work with.
I guess more to follow on that soon when it gets integrated in certain ways 🙂

Did anybody ever think about every player needing to unlock each region themselve instead of just having them with out needing to conquer any of them to proceed?

Breach is a gamemode atm, but serves as a breeding chamber forgame mechanics that may carry over to the mmo.

Breach has become mostly a testing environment for the mechanics of a new dawn. There is some crossover, and it's easier to build systems there rather than design all the other MMO lite stuff first.

It's a gameplay first initiative

Plus until they have the new game director in and up to speed, they can't design the core game loop of the MMO lite anyways. So polishing things like combat and multiplayer in breach is ideal
