I love the leaks as much as anyone here. And I'm a massive fanboy. But, this is a feedback channel so here is a possibly less popular piece of feedback.

At this point, I start to question the value of still having team members working on improving rocks. I haven't seen a single player complaining about the quality of rocks in OW. I have seen, however, several people noting the lack of excitement after x number of runs. Perhaps those hours that artists still spend on improving rocks could be better used for something that adds more replayability to OW instead? Like designing something else we can shoot at? Or creating pieces of an ancient puzzle that appear on the map randomly and require many runs to complete?

I feel that keeping the initial excitement alive will be more important to the overall success of the game than the improvement of already great looking rocks to AAA looking rocks for an open beta release.

I'm no expert on game dev, but here's what I can puzzle together from earlier shows:

1. ILV labs bought expensive (drone?) equipment and they went into the outback and scanned lots of rocks and rock formations
2. these scans are used as inspiration for artists to make custom awesome big rock formations
3. these scans are also used in a computer simulation model that can spit out generated rock formations, and the team just picks the best ones

only the work put in 2) could possibly be put into something else that makes overworld more fun. The rest of the suggestions can't be done by the rock people

The rearing makes me think horse or ram not bovine. I've seen a lot of cows fight and never seen them rear. Maybe buffalo are different.

When you halter train a cow you do your best to keep her head up because it helps reduce her strength. Once a cow gets her head down there's no stopping her so this reall seems weird to me. Even a cow warning will involve a head shake that starts at a normal head height and goes down. It's the hunched shoulders that they display to show power.

Calves bounce around not full grown bulls. This just doesn't look powerful to me.

They can move their heads surprisingly fast though because to massive neck muscles, horns aren't anything.

Having said all that, I was looking at the other leaks and need to remember they are Illuvials not real earth animals, I mean the penguin is basically a ninja so I guess the Water Buffalo can rear. 😂

Keep in mind that these are also not Water Buffalo. They are something else that has god like powers that we happened to model off water buffalo because it was a good reference point.

We just take weird animals (usually extinct) and push them from normal into alien.

We already have this.

Each illuvial has a “material” sound. For each material (bone, squish, etc) the hit sound is remixed to match that.

When the polar bear line hits the squid line it makes a different sound to when it hits the Pangolin line.

Still a bit sad to see the red panda signature tail go away in stage 3. I get that he’s a kung fu master and dragons are related to that. But the initial concept art from the last Illuvial contest had a lot of ideas evolving around the signature tail being very powerful and awesome with its white rings on its tail. Now the tail is just…a dragon? Maybe it’s still a lot of W.I.P, idk

As far as I know all that context that we discussed originally is still occurring, nobody has come to me to ask to change that and I certainly haven't approved it!

But he’s cool and all. I just don’t want the stage 3 to be a full blown dragon basically. The stage 2 in the picture above from Linkky for instance have a lot of red panda characteristics in its tail with the flaming rings. All gone with the stage 3 dragon tail

I'll mention to the animation team, I'm sorry you feel that you haven't had as much contact with the process as you'd like. I had a few meetings and ironed out the design with you folks which hasn't changed at all from that point.

On the visuals side, I believe you had a text chat with Rogier on the concept side to refine the concept. Aaron and Grant would typically not be heavily involved with anything in this process, so I'm suprised to hear that was what you expected.

I'll try and revive the group chat with Lemz if there are future changes, issue might rest with the single point of contact since you guys were a team rather than an individual.

You'll likely hear more on the design side once he's being used in the PvP testing 🙂

Wasn’t meant to steer up anything or make the team rework stuff really. This was also just my personal opinions. I don’t know if the other guys who were with me agree but just from the looks no other Illuvial had that much of a drastic change where he almost kinda loses the initial animal it tries to resemble. If he’s still being purple to look shock and he loses the rings on the tail…losing the red fur/ black stomach and the distinctive red panda tail…there’s not much else to go on to tell it’s a red panda anymore. He can be a wannabe kungfu dragon, not an actual dragon is my point I guess
