There are much better wallets out there for storing crypto. Yet for the ease of online access and the way a lot of developer's are doing it, having a Metamask wallet to onboard into these games is probably a smart idea. If you are putting a lot of money into it, maybe use another safer wallet to store your crypto while have some "active" crypto in your metamask for gaming and trading.
EDIT: One of the KEY things to a wallet is that you have your own PRIVATE KEY, so you truly own your own cryptocurrency.

Also true, but games nowadays have a lot more competition and people expect a lot more from it. Especially combined with crypto they expect mad cash impact and mad graphics with mad gameplay and mad storyline. Quite unrealistic. I feel like Illuvium is able to combine several of these components in one. So far I know of only one other blockchain game project that actually has some decent storyline and graphics.

It's the people who are playing this for their income that are bitching, because their rewards for grinding a game they don't like have basically fallen 33%. The ecosystem in its current form is unsustainable over the long run, you need to maintain the value inflow into the ecosystem + the burn of generated resources > the resource generation. Eventually the player base / reinvestment into the game will plateau and then you get inflation on the in game generated resources (SLP). But I digress, this isn't relevant to ILV, the economic model is different (and frankly if it was the same as AXS I would dump my entire investment).

AXIE has boomed faster because at its core it basically is somewhat of a resource generation/burn treadmill that accelerates until one day it hits a wall and breaks down.

to be fair, you can prolong that day for a long time by adding in new resource burn, and I think they will do that. I hope they can succeed for many years.

Just to make sure, you cannot free to earn like in Lost Relics. You need to pay a fee to travel to a region and pay a fee to cure a shard to be able to start earning.

Free to earn is not sustainable.

Yeah, you might be able to sell free Tier 0 stuff early on because people buy it to get ahead but long-term, some fees have to be paid.
