It is Free To Play if you are talking about Illuvium Arena.
It's an auto battler but with a creature collecting aspect to it as well.

You can enter the Illuvium Arena and play for free. But the free to use Illuvials will always put you at a disadvantage in ranked since they are permanently level 1. While owned Illuvials could have bonus stats and can level up.

I recommend starting in Arena Gauntlet Casual mode where levels and stats don't apply. Find out which creatures and teams you like playing with!

Then look for events like House League where you can compete against people of the same skill/collection level as you for a shot at winning your own Illuvials!

They definitely do. It's a 1% increase in Health, Attack Damage, and Omega Power. So there can absolutely be a big difference when two players with level gaps end up playing each other.

It's a big reason why I wanted House League to be a thing. Your in process of leveling up, find veterans in ranked, get crushed. It can be very disheartening.

What's the state of Illuvium treasury/runway? Quite a few projects closed down (mostly in cosmos ecosystem but also in ethereum), so is there a chance illuvium ceases to exists in the short term?

Seems very very likely if you look at the data. Inevitable actually. Ever since the new marketplace launched I've floored all kinds of d1sks and not one sold. I have re-floor my land every day because it just keeps dropping.
I've looked up daily volume and it's consistently under 1Eth. And they make what, 5%? So they make ~100bucks per day.
If I'm wrong, please anyone correct me, but how do employees, servers etc keep running on 100$ per day?
And how much energy do the Warwicks put in the venture that makes 100$/day when they made tens of millions?
Sylen or anyone else, please tell me, if the runway is till Q1 next year, and secondary sales bring in about 20k$ till then...?
And apart from secondary sales, you only have new launches which are completely done.

Honestly, since I don’t have much knowledge about R2E, I can’t really predict which tier or stage will perform better. But right now, the highest stage in the game is 3 and the highest tier is 5 so Stage 3 Tier 5 Illuvials are currently the strongest in the game.

You definitely need to at least have your own Illuvials. Level them up, and then you can start thinking about the leaderboards. It's a marathon, not a sprint.

There are places to start even as Free to Play, like House League for example. But it's not a instant gratification kind of thing. That's why I emphasize make sure you like the game. Then you'll enjoy the journey and the wins later will feel great.

But it's easy to jump to conclusions and have my guard up when most of your questions are about money while having also having a very demanding demeanor. It screams Extractor which to me are players that are here for the wrong reasons. If that's not you @terse helm I do apologize but sadly that's the vibe I'm getting atm.

Like Torial mentioned, the game itself is entirely f2p. That being said, the illuvials you will fight with, will be extremely low power compared to other peoples - since each illuvial has it's own stats, and the level of them also increases their power.

But if you are looking to just try the game out, get a feel for each illuvial and the systems etc, then you do not need to purchase anything at all! - If you wanted to dip your toes in and see what it's all about, it's a great way to bring questions and such here to the community so we can help you out before you decide to dedicate nay money towards nfts.

Also, if you play a few games, find a few illuvials that you like a lot - either aesthetically or power wise - I would be happy to give you a few so you can make a team and try to compete a little as you learn.

Dunno bro, if he´s a scammer, at least he could scam me with 150+usd and didn´t. Just telling my experience. I sent half the Illuvials, he payed me half, and i always sent first without issue. Not putting my hand in the fire for him tough... again, just exposing he did behave good with my trade.
