Anyone can make a unverifible claim about anything for gullilbe people to believe. It's a great way to attack and villify people you don't like/want to fail. If you choose to believe these made up claims without any evidence--you're probably being duped by a made up lie for someone else's benefit.
From what you've said, it doesn't seem like a likely or logical position to take that Vitalyic would have 51%. If he was scammer, he likely would have pulled the rug out long ago and become a multi-billionaire. You do you though if you don't feel comfy investing. Don't. But I'd put up a filter against untestable claims since they can be made up to attack literally anyone.

You have to understand that money is what attracts the E-Sports players and drives orgranizations. It doesn't matter if the game is crappy if their is money to be made, you'll find a lot of players who will want to compete for that prize pool, regardless of the game's quality.
That said, I think Illuvium will struggle to build any E-Sports scene without guaranteed/planned future tournaments to attact players--but as long as the tourneys are planned, something the players can count on, practice for--that's what matters at this stage to drive interest.
I think the PvP trailer would have been much more compelling if they could have had the line, "$1,000,000 World Tournament Coming Soon" or whatever the team has planned--such a great hook because players imagine making a living from playing Illuvium full time, and some players truly will. It's a way to guarantee there will be Pro Illuvium Players in existence.

I guess that begs the question. Will Illuvium tournaments be blockchain caught Illuvials only? Or will there be a tournament mode where e-sports players can draft a deck from any and all Illuvials? I am not sure what the team has planned.
I had an idea for a tournament format where each players is given a certain amount of moeny (like $100-$1000) to buy Illuvials on the Illuvidex the day of the tournament. To create as powerful of a deck from a low budget would be hella interesting and help inspire other players on various budgets to create powerful decks. Would be very entertaining.

The game needs to be fun ultimately to retain a large player base and make esports viewing and competitive gaming engaging. I do believe Illuvium has the framework to build a great esports ecosystem. That is one approach, but my marketing classes I took taught me that we have limited time to onboard new players. That window is precious, and it very expensive to get back (costs a lot to drive players to check out ILV). It may only be 15 seconds to 1 minute that they look at the game, and then they will never give Illuvium another chance, writing it off. My suggestion is primarily so we can convey to potential players that the team is planning on taking the E-Sports scene of Illuvium seriously from jump. I just feel that aspect is not enough in focus in the currently first impression of Illuvium.

You want to get the tournament and prize setup out there for sure and yet if this test runs into massive bugs that derail us for several weeks to months your tournament could get delayed heavily and ultimately backfire wheras at this point I think our audience is still small enough and development process early enough to not fret over it too much... And regardless I agree that tournaments with prizes should and will be involved in this testing period, just need to give it a week or two to see how it handles volume testing and set things up from there with confidence in the reliability of the product. That is really interesting, and I would have a distinctly different opinion for PvP focused games. But it really depends on the game... like for Dota 2, CS:GO or LoL the tournaments were absolutely crucial to the games success. But for games that are not suited to truly competitive environments, adding E-Sports focus does not make much sense. I'd say Illuvium has much more potential as an E-Sports game than your typical multiplayer game.
