This is a very interesting topic. My guess would be if the sites are more clumped together, then you'll be able to optimize building placement. You'll have a mining zone, that will be separated from other buildings, that maybe have negatives beeing close to mines.

It's mosty speculation, but we know building placement will matter and being able to have some of your building away from mines will give benefits. Also some mines become more effective around other buildings, which will allow you to build less of those. So there are some logical choices. Having the sites closer to each other should have a small advantage.

WoW is a terrible example of anti-botting. There are private servers with 99.9% less bots than live servers, and it's not because Blizzard doesn't have the tech to detect and ban bots.

I'll agree it's never possible to guarantee bots never operate in a given game, but you can certainly reduce the number of bots in a game, if you care.
