no, not a bug. You always have 1 MP at the end so you get one chance for capture. But it's not smart playing because you only have one chance for capture. Unless maybe you're trying to grind XP and don't care about captures... But still you won't get much XP with your whole team on the board

Eventually, yes. OW is the means by which Illuvials enter the system - either you use the ones you've captured, or you buy the ones someone else has captured. Combined with IZ, which produces the fuel, it's basically the foundation of the Illuvium universe that we're building.
Maybe other games will have modes, like Arena, where you can use built-in ones instead of captured ones, but the goal is to have all the games be interoperable with the player's items

I think the idea is that you are meant to use the obelisk to teleport back to sanctum mesa and equip a weapon. Add it to your team. Also place the weapon in your overworld loadout.

Once the weapon is in the overworld loadout you can press G to use the ability to activate the special shots. Making it easier to capture the doka.

Once you get your advanced boots/jetpack/visor and a half dozen t0 critters, then you should start doing stage 1 runs. Start with mining so you have some t1 shards, then after you cure the shards from that run, maybe go hunt some illuvials

Also when it comes to armaments, to get stage 2 of something you have to break down a couple stage ones, they will have a rarity related to their tier. So you have to break down tier 3 weapons to get rare, or tier 2 to get uncommon, etc. The dots at the top of the image will show what tier they are.

When your energy is low like ~500ish you can walk through it for some extra energy

a plant can give a buff and sometimes an essence, if you watch the score you get you will see the amount for each one

same with ore

but with gems and shards

You’re not looking at them you’re reading what type of ore it is on the map after you reveal it

I don’t do partial on the usage, so it’s in increments of 100 for me
