The inspiration behind the flower bug was lady bugs however I like flowers and think spiders are cool so I combined it.

Then for that little guy there on the right, we had to make an animal based on the three shapes provided and pick one to use (or all). I chose the teardrop shape.

It was originally going to be some sort of firey rock creature but ended up the opposite so I might draw the second and make them twins.

The wands are real wands from humans who took the wizarding world test. The interpretation how the wand looks like is made with the information in the wand wood description and with the core, sometimes if information given, I also involve the patronus in the look.

I was wondering cos I have a story with a wandmaker in it and every time I want him to show off a wand he's made and I have to come up with it, it's off to the wiki tabs I go to look up what woods and cores work best together to match certain personalities.

Elm is a wood, that prefers a wizard that has presence, magical dexterity and a certain native dignity. It produces the most elegant charms and spells. And Elm is somewhat identified with pure-blood, even that also muggleborns can use it. So I made a very elegant wand with a ball phiole with a little what looks like blood in it, or at least a red unknown liquid 😉

I'm hoping that once I've got rid of this stupid covid that I can go pick up some wooden dowels and have another attempt at carving my own wand.

Which is Alder wood with a Phoenix core, 14 1/2 inches, unyielding flexibility.

From what I've read on wand lore, that actually fits me pretty spot on

I wont be trying to carve it out of Alder first though as I don't want to waste more expensive wood, so I'll just try on some pine dowels

a lathe, yeah, well they cost a lot, so I'm going really old fashioned and taking a knife to it, whittling

as I can't afford a lathe, I'm just going to get myself a solid knife and have a go at whittling the wood down

Well, I think if you'll be able to make it yourself in a shape you want, then it's definitely better than spending >150$ for a custom one from wand makers

and well a pine dowel around 2ft long is only a couple of quid

that and a couple of planks to try making some practice swords, and I'll be happy

my work probably wont be good, but hey if I can get something decent then I'll pay for a more expensive Alder dowel that I can cut and shape and try turning into my Alder wand

Blender is probably the most accessible, but most 3D software will have a free trial / student version these days

Ah Maya, I learnt how to 3D model on Maya, but like hell am I paying a minimum of £300 per year just for the "Lite" license or £1500 for a full license. Simply not worth it.

Blender has good UI since the 2.8 update but I'm still hesitant about it.

I have used a little bit of blender to 3d model for a printer; I was completely new to 3d-modelling at the time and found it quite user-friendly, as far as that goes with modelling...

oh it's not bad, it's just that the UI used to be horrible, much better now, actually usable, but I'm just stuck in my ways and like to complain about it.

I tried something different for once... Spruce Wood with a Dragon Core 12 1/2" and Solid flexibility. The wood is known for flamboyant and dramatic effects.

Okay, not gonna lie..I like the design on that. I'd imagine wielding that akin to how Count Dooku in Star Wars wields his lightsaber, with the curved hilt/handle. Makes for a dramatic and flamboyant but no less dangerous style.

I LIKE this style, but there's definitely some choices I wouldn't be making now, like the weird angles in some places on the designs. It got better the farther along I got, but I haven't done this style in a long time.

Like, when I created this I had a completely different picture in mind; even before the rough first sketch..

That way you just gotta go with all your marks, you don't worry so much about making everything perfect, and if it goes wrong, just start over. Draw on scrap paper you won't care about, and just get a feel for it.

That way even if it isn't what you envision, you still practice

And then you practice over and over again to make the shapes you need for what you envision, and with each version you get closer and closer to what you're actually trying to make

Fair enough, I think it makes it far more fun!

I like making dragon hybrids for folks, or kitten litters for warriors fans, and I do something similar. I use either real genetics for the cats to determine what they would look like, or I use a randomizing system for dragons that tells me what parts get how much from each parent and I end up with some really neat combos.

Aww, thanks ☺️ and I'm not good at drawing inanimate objects such as weapons or wands. That axe on the big chonker lizard took me AGES lol, and even then, I think I made the pole too skinny to support that kind of big honkin piece of metal.

Also I'm just super into genetics in general, so these types of things are very interesting for me lol

These three aren't entirely genetically accurate (an all red tom and a dilute black molly wouldn't produce an all red male due to the red gene being on the X chromosome) they are adorable potato babies I drew. Practicing newborn kittens was more difficult than I thought it'd be lol

Honestly, the one thing I would change is how the hood's resting on the head, since something would need to be holding it up for it to sit like that. The head itself looks great! The angle is very well done, and even the texture and shading of the scales is spot on!

And even then, it could just be the horns

Yknow what I really like about this? The texture of the fabric! I can't do that lol. You can see the folds and wrinkles as it wraps around the body.

I mean I used to play them on a LAN screen set up back in late 90s early 00s at a friends. The guest bedroom/art storage room was a computer room and just gamed there for hrs on end my mate at end me in middle his sister on my other side. They didn’t get a long and she’s 4 years younger so they fought. So I was the barrier. Played same games so she played sims so I played sims and being LAN interactive then he’d play total so I’d also play total war so playing multiple games in window view on tiny monitor. So many crashes.

So like constant shuffling of disk into computer load game take disk out pas it along.

Totes bad for the disk and computer tbh.

I use a lot of free assets files I’ve downloaded from the dnd and like community to flesh out the builds. But um, my design is huge. I’m basically building (a usually a city map is conceptual only sometimes with just streets being built for specific areas to be interactive but my party is crazy) so I’m recreating the faerun city of nerverwinter into a vertical vertual battleground so like calling buildings like in assassins creed will be a thing for rogues Amd bards and windows will be portals that can jump though and the lighting and line of sight with move as PCs move so fog of war will exist in every layer. So like it’s big design. I actually think I bit more than I can chew.

And like it’s completely to scale as an actual city so also pretty big. Like if I were to draw it like @gentle bison I’d not be able to physically do it.

As for speed. Try interval training. 5 secs, 10 sec, 30, 1 min, 5 mins, and back down.

By the end of it your speed will increase and so will your observation skills if you do it in a life study.

In this case, if you find time to draw, whether you’re on your way somewhere, definitely take advantage of it if you’re in the mood. And even when you’re not, vent art is a great release.

Also, contour drawing can help with stability and using less lines.

So I bought a 2.4 metre long pine dowel to be able to cut to length and try making some wands out of. Well specifically my wand, though mine is meant to be Alder wood but I'm not wasting expensive wood by not knowing what I'm doing, so practice on pine first, cos it's £10 for another dowel of the same length if I ruin the 5 attempts I'll get out of this one.

Just need to get a proper knife for it, which apparently the handy-man and the garden centre don't sell stuff like that, so the internet it is I guess

Candles I find easy. Save you jam jars for jam and candles. In old jam jar fill half way with wax pellets. Or old candles that you’ve broken with a hammer in a pot of water place jar. Bring to heat not boiling don’t want to break jar. Just want to melt wax. Stir with chopstick from old takeaway. On one tie the wick to and drop wickwith metal base into wax pot/jar. The other is for stirring.

The wax while melted is when you add your scented oils to make nice.

Fair. All the stuff. Needed can be done at an art supply’s place. But um if you want to make candles not in a glass pot, your gonna need to double boil it a separate vessel but note that vessel you boil/melt the wax In will be destroyed for future cooking use because of wax residue.

So that’s why I repurpose jam jars.

It’s a really nice job. Overall I’ve been teaching for about 3 years.

First at a general education afterschool, then I switched to a nonprofit which fun fact: I used to be apart of their program in high school, so it’s a dream job and I love it

And I love their mission too. We’re trying to spread arts education and make it more accessible as well as provide those we serve with materials and things for free. If I’m not mistaken I think they’ve also done a few art supply drives and they do auctions and other things (we have connections to like a lot of artists and companies such as Viacom, Sony, Swarovski, Ralph Lauren, etc)

It’s really amazing. I was in their teen arts program. Specifically in creative career exploration and portfolio program. I was in the testing group for both. 😁

We got to see lots of places, meet lots of people and artists, make connections, it was very fun 😊

In our second year we were partnered with mentors from the fields we were interested in. Ex: if you like books and want to be a writer or illustrator or editor, then they’d pair you with someone from penguin random house. I was paired with my mentor who is a really amazing artist who also works with us to this day 😭

I hope someday I can help their cause and donate art or something.

The sector I’m in is our free arts days.

They used to do in person events and things with different sites and partner companies, for example once we had an event at Sotheby’s and what they’ll do is like partner the staff with a child (a buddy for the day essentially) and we’ll make art together with them based on the theme/artist of that day for that event. I also got to participate in one which took place at Uniqlo IN THE CITY (I’m in New York) DURING OPEN HOURS 👀 I was just 16 and a intern for the summer, was fun. Speaking of which Teen arts program ensures you get a free (and paid) summer internship at certain places. I interned at their office, and then the following year I was at The Swiss Institute gallery. I also almost got one for interior design.

Our sites for FAD are usually foster homes and shelters and things, so we really try our best to like especially provide them with snacks and supplies let alone, just a happy art making experience (in person of course which I got wind of yesterday we might have in person again this summer 🤞🤞🤞)

Overall, like I said it’s just a really nice job. I love it because I feel I can serve a good purpose and I also get to teach art which I love. I don’t know how I got here today, but I am glad I am, especially because when I was younger I had told them I’d wanted to work for them someday. And it’s funny because I said that to the previous manager of my sector who at the time was a college intern and she was the one who interviewed me and we made a laugh about it. It’s nice.

And then it can become more complex too because maybe you want to add light and shadow which in that case, I still am learning

And because I’m also an alumni they’re thinking about highlighting that and showcasing my work alongside my students’
