Skate 3 and Tony Hawk's Underground are fully voice acted and never mention your characters name either. Though to be fair idk if you can even set your name, but then again we don't know if you can set your name in this game either

Games definitely can avoid just mentioning the characters name

by just saying 'you' or referring to you by a nickname instead

Fallout 4 is an interesting game in that they have full voice over and have a lot of names prerecorded that you can be called within the game.

Yeah some games do that as well. I imagine what they could do is have a set last name, and then let us choose the first name

I think it's cause character customisation is dynamic it can adapt to any of the environments and is rather easy to do

Voice over is something that is static, there are too many possibilities (unless it's AI, then that's a different story, but all that effort for a name?)

And because you can customise your own character, you're able to grow an attachment
