This is complete speculation from my end. But in my eyes they are not really comparable, WB has multiple games release over the year(s), so posting marketing for a game that isn't the next slated game seems to not be something they like to do. When Back 4 Blood was releasing all their marketing material was focused on that. Rockstar on the other hand, only really worked on RDR2 (and gta online) for those years. So they don't really lose anything by reminding people about the game. Whilst WB might actually.
WB will announce the games, sure, but from what I've observed, their active marketing campaigns seem to be a heavy push in the months leading up to release

For Elden Ring, I preordered the Collector’s Edition for the physical stuff, but likely won’t receive it on release day, so I’ll buy the digital version on PC as well. I get Souls games for both anyway though

You can mod on pc and not on pc i can see his view point and yours to mate but if it was me I'd buy both because I'd charge Legacy to my phone contract on the ps store so didn't have to spend my money there n then and by the pc version via phone again so you could later mod the game on pc

That's not really an indication. Metro games were on Steam too, but they made the exclusivity deal for Exodus.

Most companies know that if their game is in high demand, people will buy it wherever they launch it. So they take the extra money from Epic and then release it again on other platforms after some time. AND THEN people will buy it on Steam, AGAIN, just to add it to their Steam collections, or for other reasons. That way they actually make more money.
