I think it does the best job at achieving what the first 3 games were attempting. It offers freeroam, loads of exploration, interesting collectables and also more exploration spaces are available for unlock once you get more spells. First game didn't have freeroam, third game didn't really have meaningful exploration.

The other games are each trying something completely different, and well, compared to the style of the first three games they're not even nearly as fun.

I posted something on here about the mechanics in the ps2 CoS and philosophers stone games and how they could some implement the mechanic into HL so you have to charge the spell up

depending on the spell

so with avada kedavra you have to actually hold down a button and charge it up otherwise it wont cast the spell

imperius and crucio i dont see how they could implement the charge up mechanic into them

but apart from the curses there shouldnt be any charge up or bar or anything due to spell apart from curses not instantly killing living beings

and some spells require a witch or wizard to be powerful enough to cast it
