It was a big part of it I agree, but it ultimately wasn’t that important to the overall plot of the book. And when they cut out a lot of the meat, and replaced it with a romance they didn’t have time to develop properly it didn’t make for a very interesting viewing experience. That’s my personal take anyway. And don’t get me started on the scene at the burrows
