Oh no, it's worth skipping.
Like I played on multiple public servers but people there are jerks. Played in a private server with my bud and we all decide to only use cheats in dire consequences which was unfortunately frequent with this game. We loaded in one day to find our entire base gone and all our dinos in random locations :v

It's too buggy.
To the point that we even had to revert the save at one point due to a bug causing us all to lose all our dinos.

It's buggy. The devs basically officially said they don't intend to fix any bugs. If you join public servers for multiplayer, you would get frustrated with bugs you can't do anything about. Solo is meh. And if you want to coop, the system is bad XD
Like you have the option to launch multiplayer and invite friends to your session but you all need to be within a few meters of the host.

You basically need one guy to host a server for the game to play multiplayer with friends.

You could play solo and use cheats if you want. But it kind of doesn't feel that great solo :v
