I've seen a few posts saying you have to wait until beating third trial to unlock final broom upgrade, which isn't quite true. You can actually purchase it immediately after completing final race, which you get right after getting second upgrade. That said, even if you purchase final broom upgrade before third trial you will still get an announcement saying the upgrade is available when you complete the third trial. Probably just another bug that allows you to get it earlier than intended.

I would recommend leaving the collectables for the end.
The way I'm doing it is exploring the parts of the map that the story sends you to, I have seen people soft lock themselves because they opened or did something before the actual quest asked for it. Just follow the story and do the side quests and explore those areas. When you finish that go on a "collect everything" spree

I've not experienced a scoling but I tend to dress appropraitaely. School uniform at school, casual clothes outside it, swimwear when swimming and pyjamas in my room at night

There are insects nearby that chase light and use Lumos to lead the group toward one of the pillars. There are multiple groups each must be led to its own pillar.

I just realized that the stone platform Merlin Trials are bugged -- most of the ones I cheesed because it allowed be to just touch the surface while on a broomstick. Then there's this one that doesn't trigger while on a broom and it restarts as soon as I get on my broom. 😆

I have had it happen, where I accidentally broomed over some butterflies and didn't follow them - progressed chapters later, and the butterflies were gone but I found the chest anyway.
