Exactly, if you go on the training mode theres a tutorial, it gives you the option to do them and earn 200 hero tokens, enough to buy any 2 heroes you like, as a f2p player, you can also save tae(Coins/in-game money) to buy more hero coins, you're limited to 35 a week tho, unless you spend some money in the game to upgrade it.
Other then that you just save hero coins and buy wathever hero you need.
