I volunteer to add different expressions and singleword lines to unused events that lack them
it is changing things a little, but it definitely is more a result of things being unfinished, like Okumura being inside his chair which I assume we'll fix. The fact that this was copied from a used event but didn't have the bustups or cutins demonstrates that.

I'm going to remove the alternate versions of where the Twin Wardens first ask about going places with them. They're basically the same as the used ones but worse, and they mention "you've just changed the heart of one bad teacher" which implies this would be before Madarame, so it'd require changing more around. Unlike the above "alternate version of used event", I don't think there's anything novel or interesting about them

So, I want to try adding a couple of my minor changes to the mod now, but I need to know- how does OptionalModFiles work, and how do I "hook" that into the scheduler? Also, is every scene going to be in OptionalModFiles?

Let's start with e480_070 I guess. This one has the following aspects:

  • changed BMD (to include voicelines and bustups)
  • added audio files (copying voicelines from used event)
  • needs to replace e108_101 in the schedule

the folder name for config options is arbitrary, it (or a file/subfolder in it) just needs to be passed to an api function for crifs hook, bf/bmd emulator, or whichever other mod(s) you need the api for
traditionally this would be handled through c# code though if you dont need code for anything else then remix toolkit works just as well

i was about to say if you were replacing 108_101 then you probably wouldnt have to do anything, but if youre editing 480_070 instead then yeah just chucking a copy of the awb in a cpk subfolder and using crifs api would also work
(alternatively you could use ryo i guess but i dont think thered be much advantage to doing so)

if youre just copypasting the awb (and have it set up as a config option like above) then mod folder/OptionalModFiles/ArseneVoice/CPK/SOUND/EVENT/E480_070.ACB and likewise with matching awb, note that this is always gonna be english audio unless you want to make a separate option for jp voice

and bmd path is just the first argument for the first action here (AddFile for bmd emulator), aka {ModDir}/OptionalModFiles/ArseneVoice/e108_101.msg
theres documentation for standard bmd emu usage but not rly for adding a custom file/folder to get imports from unfortunately, you kinda just have to flip through source until it clicks pensivekechi

ok so the dummy file used for stock bf/bmd implementation is entirely there for routing purposes, ie. the process by which file emulation framework gets the path to a file in an archive (so it can build the merged version and make the game read it)

if youre using AddFile from the bf/bmd/l10n apis then you might be able to get away without one since they make you pass it the route directly as an arg, but with AddDirectory the folder you pass behaves identically to the normal bf/bmd/l10n folder (or langcode subfolder) so you do need a dummy (or english for l10n) file if using those
i dont think theres any harm in having a dummy file anyway in the former case besides maybe some mild confusion

also im at my laptop again and uh, looking at the l10n remix actions i think its because config has wrong number of args for both api functions. it should be 2 (or 3 but i dont think remix config has a way to pass enum values) but theres only 1. it should be uhhh pause to fish through source goddamnit @gleaming hare help me out

im guessing arguments for 2-arg AddDirectory in ILocalisationFramework.cs are like...relative path from mod folder to subfolder containing the langcode folders, and then the mod folder itself, but im not sure just from reading the description and flipping through source?

I decided to switch and try to add in the holy grail scene. so I copied the files from vanilla and it worked except of course the audio was ear-rape because of the encoding. So I extracted the ADX files and tried to add them with AWB emulator, and now for some reason it can't find the EVT/ECS files. which were working perfectly fine before.

but like I'm thinking, if the point is adding extra scenes, people want to play the extra scenes. So I feel like the Hawaii ones don’t even need to be a toggle at all, since they only add to it and don’t really "affect" anything about the plot. The ending ones like Maruki valentine's or Akechi at the shelter make sense to toggle.

Some of these audio tasks could be pretty easily done in AtomicAudio if you're already willing to use a Python script. Others could merit their own commands (it wouldn't be that hard to add some) if they're common enough tasks, like changing the encryption inside of an AWB hmm

  • e118_002: Kamoshida hears a noise and finds a vent covering in the real world when Joker and Ryuji escape the first time (untranslated)
  • e126_001: Kamoshida and the Principal talking in the staff room, about the noise and about why should they accept transfers with a criminal record when Kamoshida's reputation is great for the school (untranslated)
  • e141_101: Sojiro talks to Joker about group dating (why) (translated)
  • e155_001: 4/15, Joker, Ryuji and Morgana walking to the alleyway before they enter the Palace, Ann is following. (untranslated)
  • e160_001: Igor calls Joker to the Velvet Room after beginning Morgana's confidant. (untranslated)
  • e193_106: Thieves gather to take the train to Madarame's house. Seems to be 5/16 right before the "button mash" scene. Translated.
  • e217_011: SIU director talking on the phone about the first calling card (because we need more of him). Translated and fully voiced
  • e290_101 / e290_201: Interesting (translated) dialogue about Futaba's Palace, but there are no visuals so it may not be worth implementing. Also both imply they're climbing.
  • e291_001: Thieves prepare to enter the Palace outside Sojiro's house. (untranslated)

I was looking into the unused Kasumi scenes and I found more that aren't in TCRF or Faz's video, because it turns out they only have BMD files, no EVT or the like.
These definitely were an early version of her confidant though, so I doubt if it's really worth implementing even the ones that do exist.
482_080 - seems to be a lunch scene, as Kasumi mentions Kamoshida was controlling the menu. She jokes about her mom being a victim of the Phantom Thieves... they stole her sleep time. Then invites Joker to go shopping for glasses for her dad. Interestingly, Morgana still calls her Uzuki here(!), but her nametag does say Kasumi Yoshizawa.
482_090 - actually shopping for the glasses for her dad, which are brought up in the earlier, existing unused events. (in the final she brings it up in the same event you do it)
482_100 - an early version of the scene where you run into both Kasumi and Akechi.

so I was putting in that event where Maruki tells you you have an appointment with him, and I realized it's a little weird. Here's how things play out in the final version on 5/13:

  • exams
  • Assembly where you're introduced to Maruki
  • Meeting him in the courtyard, beginning confidant
  • in class, Kawakami says certain students will have to meet with him, and she will tell them after class. Then Ann and Ryuji text debating whether they will go, Ann says she will.
  • Ann's counseling session
  • Class ends and Morgana says "don't you have a counseling session? I'll see you after."
  • running into Kasumi, then first counseling with Maruki

The unused event has Maruki telling you you have an appointment with him (and you already know him at this point), then Kawakami says she was going to tell you but he beat her to the punch. So I'm pretty sure this is supposed to be right after her class, especially since afterwards Morgana still says you have an appointment (I think they forgot to change this lol). Only problem is, the unused event has him saying "good morning". So I think it's fair to change that and include it, right?

Ok, you know that scene where they go to the beach and the guys try to pick up women in a montage and keep failing? Before Angel and Julian show up. This originally had an insane amount of dialogue and branches (630 messages!)
There are three sets of girls, and each time you can either ask Ryuji or Yusuke to do it or talk to them yourself, and then after that there are various tactics or topics you can try bringing up. Like Ryuji being a runner, Yusuke painting them nude, ask for their number, or "just stare at them". These actually tend to have success until something goes wrong:
The first pair of girls ends up being a mother and daughter, the second end up being in ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, and the third just get bored because it ends with trying to convince them you're the Phantom Thieves. This is so weird, there's a LOT of content with this one but why Atlus why

Vanity is paint (also has Tetra/Makara Break built in)
Gluttony doubles skill costs
Wrath is basically rage and increases damage dealt and taken
Avarice (greed) just inflicts hunger
Envy is like brainwash
Pride isn’t really an ailment, rather makes it so if you attack/debuff during that turn he saps your SP

The difference is these are almighty ailments so they can't be cured and for Lust/Avarice/Wrath/Envy sometimes you just don't lose the turn anyways

Did the original P5 have a Christmas Eve event if you didn't romance anyone? I can't find one, so I think one of these unused events is a scrapped version of that. It's with Sojiro at Leblanc but Futaba isn't there, just Ryuji and Yusuke.
It doesn't exist but this event is probably relatively easy to recreate since they're just sitting in Leblanc.

Hmm, interestingly it seems like the unused event with Akechi catching the thieves on camera ("Checkmate") isn't in the December beta. So I may have to check the other betas as well for more events.
