random but this section of the music video goes insanely hard and I want to see if i can pull a few concepts from it
you mean the ipod commercial bit?
yeah haha
like shot makes me think about referencing it but have the shadow be tartarus. I LOVE SYMBOLISIM!!!! RAAAAAAAAAA
they unironically made spotify covers or something referencing that before (Koro got fucked over iirc)
theres definitely some transitions and effects I can recreate and see if they work within the project
just caught up on this thread, what I really appreciate as always is seeing how you're putting a lot of care into the changes you make
definitely got jumpscared by the change from the good BMD to Reload's BMD though š
Calling it good burn my dread is awesome
but the reload one is good too? š
I tried listening to it while biking
I can't hear her vocals at all
I thought it was an instrumental at first
They really screwed her over on it
the reload one is hilariously bad lol
The sound team vendetta allegations doesn't sound like allegations with that one
As for p3fes, they shouldn't have made her try to rap alongside lotus juice
Think that's what ruined it
she rapped in p3fes?
anyways that doesnt really sound like it was the issue
the issue for me was the poor mixing
and just the reload instrument library not sounding as good as the original, esp in that song
the mixing in bmd reload is really bad though
Maybe my ass unknowingly listened to the live version tf
yeah im not hearing her rap in p3fes lmfao

Hallucinating while biking's crazy
are my headphones magical or something
i can hear her vocals just fine
Can you perfectly distinguish syllables and phrases
yes?
I sure as hell can't even hear her say the V in live or D in sword
Happens a fuckton
I lift my fae and run through the sunlay
i think you're thinking of deep breath deep breath reincarnation reload
Wait I get it now
It sounds like
She's recording at 2 am without trying to wake up people
maybe my headphones are just built different or something
i'm not gonna argue about the reload soundtrack for the umpteenth time
have your opinons about it, but at least have a decent piece of equipment to listen to it on before casting judgement
Bro I think if a PC with headphones, a phone's speaker and a phone with some really good earbuds ain't picking things up on one ver but does in the other, I can blame the song
I'm not that destitute
Adding to that, the chorus of the reload version's actually clear, it's in contrast to the verses and the last line
So it's 1000% a mixing issue
Crackhead theory
They think the better english will be distracting so fuck it up with weird mixing
plot twist they just wanted to do an instrumental and then said "oh fuck it" and dropped her vocals in with no tweaks
Honestly, either I might dabble with like music mixing to make a new version for this project or see if I can commission/collab with someone.
Because yeah, the reload version isn't it. Its just so off and dissonant from the original that while yeah it "is the same song" it doesn't feel like it lol
This isn't really a case of "old > new" but genuinely the mixing for reloads is really wack
the mixing has been brought up by several people as being an issue though, like it isn't just doors having a really bad setup. frankly if your music sounds almost unintelligible unless you have a "decent piece of equipment", that is a problem in itself. I expect good audio equipment to let me hear extra little details in the song's instrumental or whatever, not to grant me the basic ability to have vocals not sound so muffled
I have a pretty decent sound setup on my PC and it just makes it even more clear that the vocals are still just really poorly mixed
Hey my setup isn't bad
Boo
hey idk what your setup is like lol
Also Ive been giving it some thought and I may attempt a full 2d animated shot for the main shot of BMD, since its only like 15 frames I feel like I can manage something like that.
Based
did a mockup/sketch of how it would look, sitll have to probably fine tune it to match p3r's look n everything but yeaaaah
Absolutely love what I did for this shot in 3d butttt im curious in doing it in 2d too haha
Super excited to see how this turns out altogether cause dude youāre totally killing it
haha thank you! also your project with the awakening is what inspired me to try my hand at 2d animating a section of this project lol!
Oml really?
dont be afraid to trace from the anime cutscenes in game to get the proportions right is my main advice
makoto has a decent amount of face forward stills. so it should be pretty easy for face itself
hair is trickier but he has some scenes w hair movement
id be also happy to help with whatever i can here
Iāve been kinda busy and Iām not that far along because iāve had to do corrections on almost all of my references, but if you ever end up wanting to see my notes, Iām more than happy to help
im not really caught up, whats the project youre working on im curious
Reanimating the protagonistās awakening in Reloadās 2D style
Iāve been stuck in preprod and 75 percent of it has been doing corrections on the protagonistās model sheets
I need my own model sheets for consistency reasons so its an unfortunate requirement
Its a thread on here but since iāve been busy, it hasnāt been updated in forever
definitely reference the art bookās stuff if you havenāt been already for technical aspects of costumes
also yeah Ive been tracing shots whenever I can to just get practice w/ the general shapes of the faces n hair.
will definitely be appreciated! š thank you
i dont know how much work youd be willing to give but id be pretty willing to help and could prolly get some others interested on this part of the project
when it comes to animating, im going to need all the help i can get haha! with 3d animation Im a lot more comfortable because ive had years of expierence. but this is my first time doing 2d animation seriously lol
so im definitely ok with any collaboration in general .
I would offer to help with animating, but Iāve been super busy lately between projects
I could maybe help with style references but I donāt know that Iād be much use on the animation side Orz
i think even critiques would be appreciated in this case
Yeah definitely
o7
Smudging through the timeline it looked a lot smoother but I think thats on my part for messing the timing up
i think youre making the sketch too detailed,, anime 2d animation never has āentirely different drawingā for each frame, instead they will either crop or redraw some parts⦠you should find actual animation from any anime for reference to see how that specifically is applied (for this kind of head nod/tilt, or anything that looks similar). for now, in your sketch just try to get the place of objects and movement right, not the details
Ahhh true yeah
by the last sentence i also mean propositions, ie just draw circles for eye or you can divide the face into portions. dont fuss on the details of the eye etc at all
Based just on what I can tell, it looks like it might be in part just a mismatch on timing and perspective
having a reference animation here is really important when jinx has said they dont have experience w 2d anim. relying on previous visual library wont work when there isnt a foundation (i mean this in the nicest way possible, its like that for me too)
The lower half of the face seems to change at different rates and the nose and mouth look almost completely still, which feels a little off with the jawline changing angles
Recording your own reference footage would probably help too considering how small a movement it is
If anything I was relying on my 3d animation as reference but its a good idea to focus more on actual 2d references for a 2d anim
Also yeah. I'll quickly look for a ref
tracing the 3d anim to use as a secondary ref is a good idea, but an actual 2d anim ref would be way more beneficial
there was a website like danbooru for animation but i cannot recall the name
Iām admittedly not as familiar with 2D anime animation as I am with western, but what I was taught as a general rule is that you want to make sure things are moving together in space to prevent the animation from looking even flatter than 2D already is
modern western anim (that isnt puppets) is closer to anine than ever before, so the ideas do apply over
worth noting though, blinks in anime vs western are actually very different. i do not remember where i heard about it but im sure itd come up with some research
Puppet animation mention Orz
Generally at a typical blink speed, Reloadās blinks happen in 3 drawings
ye its like that for portraits too
even here though im not if its intentional
I did the blink in 3 intentionally like the cutscenes yeah
Also just found a couple of good vids/ references
feel free to share them
another important thing, do sketch out keyframes first please. for your own sanity
this does look like keyframes but its harder to tell lol
ig i mean it mostly for the hand/arm posing
also i encourage straight up tracing the gun 1:1

Say you want to animate a character looking up, or down, or any other direction. It can be confusing sometimes to know where each line should move to in order to make this look believable. Luckily, there are some guidelines you can follow that make this a ...

Lol for eva its at 0:42
I think i understand i was missing a lot of guiding lines now haha
Oh yeah it is keyframed
Just had those two, (ignoring the body)
Since the focus was on the head movement
yeye
these are honestly better refs than anything i could find so quickly LOL
great job
doing some more research will also benefit for sure
it really will come down to how the lineart looks in the face itself
True yeah, going to go ahead and redo the anim with the new tips in mind
obv dont rush it
i try to check this channel whenever i can usually but feel free to ping if you need feedback or smth
Yeah for sure! If anything just when I get the drive for working on a scene I usually just enjoy being deep in the project as long as I can be.
Also yeah ill let you know! Again thanks ^^

Bbetter demonstration/ basis of movement
Might be hard to visualize the face w just the lines but I think I got a perfect movement going that'll look good
Using the rules from the videos/tips I found, by having the details higher up move more drastically (ie. Eyes nose mouth) than the lower ones (chin)
@dim swift @halcyon marsh any tips/critiques so far?
is his face supposed to move up in the last frame
esp since his bangs are moving up, the top of his hair should be moving back ( the first video u sent explains this)
yeah I couldnt tell if i moved them enough
also wouldnt the hair be still for the first shots and only be in movement in the impact frame? whether intended or not it looks in motion when it shouldnt really be
once again just tracing hair directly from 2d cutscene screenshot would work better š
movement as in like, wind
fair enough yeah haha, i traced the hair from a screenshot that reminded me of the hair from this shot in bmd
also yeah it would be wind like indivudal strands flowing
there should be some purpose is the thing. hair having wind-like movement on impact frame would sell the impact frame a lot better
A little nitpicky but I think during the closed eye frame, his eye needs to be moved up somewhat? Or his other eye frames need to be adjusted to be moved down some

Right now his closed eye frame looks like the eye is closing based on the last frame, but it should still move up a little with the rest of the face if heās tilting his head up/back
meant to be angled just a bit higher than straight forward
finally got a frame on model super well so i can go back and clean up the others based on this one cause like...
Lmfao
Iām wondering if its partially a perspective thing that Iām seeing but Iām not 100 percent on that
The last key looks a bit like the eye shifts towards the edge of the face
random but heres the full op so far https://youtu.be/hNk4D185E0Y
thought id finally render it out just to see
ah yeah your right
Holy shit youāre absolutely cooking
cooking
for some reason the preview was in 240 p and it really felt like i was watching the original for a sec XD
Got a better draft/sketch going
all thats left before I can do the actual final version is just figure out how to animate the hair/clothes waving
plus cleaning up the movements w/ the hand
cleaning up as much as I can as I go
https://youtu.be/srduLosvDbA?si=2yFax5FF8IiOKCyV&t=19
basing the hair animation off of the movies (mostly) in terms of how they interact when they summon a persona
There are some exceptions to this, and that is:
1: Takaya, Aigis and Koromaru donāt count, they must be using an Evoker (Koromaru does have an evoker, but im referring to the main types of Evokers)
2: If a character fully summons their persona offscreen, without hearing the sound, or even if they do summon a persona offscreen even with the n...
Stupid question, is this the full length of the shot? It feels very fast
yeah, its a full 15 frames haha
Damn only 15 frames
yeah for reference I tested how it looked within the animation as a whole
since in the og it was just two static images flashing, making the rough transition between the two is sort of what makes it feel a bit fast
which is also why I'm trying to minimize movement since too much movement would make it hard to really understand the shot
Yeah Orzz
It just feels shorter than the 3D version you had in there before
Which is what Ig is throwing me a little
Think a lack of a jerk to the right when it fires is what's throwing me off
Iām not totally sure how it would look in sequence with all of the flashing afterwards and you donāt have to do it if it doesnāt fit with what youāre going for, but from a strictly shot perspective, I think it would benefit if you move his body to interact with the evoker closer to how you had it in the 3D shot
15 frames thoughā¦.
Also, personal advice- donāt worry about cleanup right now
Just focus on timing
Youāll likely be doing a cleanup pass anyways so timing and arcs are more important than getting it perfect
Looking pretty good so far! I think you could still push the impact after the evoker flash a little more if you adjusted the shoulders and hand to react to the recoil and maybe adjust the timing of that a little?
It feels a little even and like the head is moving independently of the actual firing as opposed to recoiling from the action, but I think adjusting the body and hand to react to the firing might help with that
new(?) persona 3 reload art
it's worth noting you're recreating shots and scenes from fes cutscenes that aren't actually present in reload. i think the shot of the gun barrel is supposed to depict this shot of daddy kirijo's gun, the moment right before he dies, and the blurred streetlight after that is obviously the last thing shinji sees when walking away in fes, his final moment. the meaning of showing that streetlamp is totally lost in the context of reload though...
not that that's criticism! just that it's noteworthy. it makes me wish i could see those scenes from fes in reload's more polished style.
so how's it been?
just a hiatus from the project, in order to prevent burn out i tend to take some breaks so i can figure things out and also just do other things
Thatās good š
trying to block some of the earlier scenes for more interesting shots since I'm redoing them
Yukaris especially i want to come up with something dynamic
blocking out the new yukari shot in blender, just going to animate then worry about the effects after
ALSO, giving myself a deadline of july 13th
I should be able to get it done before then but just in case I have GOT to get it done before then haha
i will be pinging you every day until july 13th
||/j||
-# not really i don't have the time for that and you probably would kill me by day 5 :3
pretty clean
NICEEEE
except for rimlight and lineart, the textures are gonna be done by hand, and it seems so much better than my previous method haha
kinda looks empty but w/ the bg and stuff should feel a lot smoother, also might mess with the interlooping of the camera anim
New years yukari
new year, new yukari!
the idea i have in my head. but idk if having both the pole and the pattern can work
esp in motion things become pretty muddled
this looks fantastic so far
looks really nice but i also do miss the old yukari shot
yeaah, if anything i might add some more camera movements or something, or even some reload transitions
like i like this new shot just tryna get it a bit better too
I have a lot of random sketches of how i kind of want this shot to go but ultimately sticking closer to the original is probably
like some more dynamic camera angles i came up look amazing but also kinda lose the shot to begin with so like ;p idk
WOAHHHH THIS LOOKS AMAZING
WHOAH OKAY I JUST MADE IT BETTER HAHA
1 second hold up
(ignoring the clippipng w/ the bg), definitely add some form of bg color, really helps
for now ill leave this scene as is and will come back to it later depending on how i feel
now for fuuka!
sort of getting the bubble shader down, really difficultt to find something that works without being too simple
trying to copy the style of these from the initial teaser
and the general aesthetic too haha
transition will be like a water droplet thing, same as all out attack bgs but with some more flair
also, flattents your fuuka
base for the transition, before i add all the water effects
going to add bubbles from this
but like vertical instead of horizontal
all thats left is to just
-get intro shader change set up
-windows
-moving bg
-touch up hair animation
-fuuka shader
the Camera is still a bit weird
hmm
imo it looks pretty alright, i like the motion of it so im not sure how i'd change it any further
This is looking really good
Just got this from the bookstore. Ready to study it heavily
OMG
THEY HAVE THE STORYBOARD FOR FULL MOON FULL LIFE
HUGE
This'll help me so much
the camera does WHAT to the two of us???
lolol
also i wish someone would scan this already I need to have some of this artwork in high res
š
woahhhh this p3r book looks so cool bc it shows you how they made the op and anime cutscenes throughout the game š®
I do know someone who got it digitally when it first released
still trying to find a good look for fuuka with shading
will probably do some texture art for the shadows on the hair instead of what i have rn, just looking for a good 'style'
Can you try to remove the shine and shadows from the hair but keep itās drop shadow
like so?
try putting the shine back on
I was gonna ask for just that lol
with lineart it pretty nicely completes it
I really like the new Fuuka stuff but the transition from Yukari to Fuuka and then Fuuka to Fuuka Cogito Ergo Sum feel a bit jarring? Idk. I feel the 1st Fuuka scene is not nessessarcy as much? Spit balling and nitpicking tbh
luckily i made the anim long enough to test that too
could also just remove the camera anim entirely but keep the transition between fuukas
I was gonna say more Fuuka horizionality but Fukka does move horizionality. I like what ya posted. Still feels like something is missing but listening to it. It syncs up with music and everything so I think thats fine.
Idk going from rendered Yukari to less rendered Fuuka to more rendered Fuuk is odd.
fair enough, although full moon fl also did that a couple times
i will admit i like the camera movement soley because of how it syncs with the music compared to no movement, where then yes its faithful but kind of just missing something because of the music i think
I guess I didnt account for full moon fl doing that
I guess I like cohesión more then faithfulness
yeah i agree
I donāt know how itāll end up looking, but maybe start the camera animation from slightly closer or pulling back the close up a little?
I like you you were almost done with this and said "nah I'm gonna redo it" lol
can def try that
earlier scenes needed a lot of reworking in hindsight
It might just be me, but I feel like the constant zoom makes the farther shot not feel like its own beat
I looked at the og opening from fes and yeah its basically the same as you have it here. One detail I did notice it that you move Yukaris arm a little while panning up. Og doesnt do that. Her arm sleeve cuff not entire arm does flap around a little. You have to add new weights or use shape keys to make that adjustment tho.
ohhh okay i get what you mean then
i see i see
looked at fmfl again and Jesus theres a lot of shader transitions.
haha yeah
Makoto walking alone has a bunch of them.
Tbh nearly every shot apart from oddly Misturus had some sort of shader change? I think maybe adding a shader transitions to Yuuka could help with the flow of the 1st anim you sent.
What you would add idk tho
if anything ill do something similar to what i did before and integrate the shader change with the transition to the next shot
Yeah up to you
like i did with pharos here
Music working with the animation is better
also currently changing the animation to see if i can get a better flow with the movement for music and the transition with yukari
That can work yeah
ok think i found something i just have to do some extra animating and editing
more proof of concept with the exact cam movement but yeah
taking the idea from the yukari shot in full moon fl
then again that shot has more room to breathe compared to this haha
Thats MUCH cleaner
The transition is peak
this looks so peak im cryin
also going to redo this scene to be more faithful since i like the cohesion the original has between these 3 shots
the butterfly shot is the odd one out
WOAHHH THIS LOOKS SO COOL NOW
2 options for the shot w/ the butterfly: traditional or reload colors. i think ill go with traditional since itll match framing more but also idk
Tint it yellow and put a body in the telephone wires
Switch between the two when the sunlight passes through them
Tbh the new stuff is pretty reload colored so Im leaning reload.
OR LIKE
maybe from daytime -> dark hour?
the next time its used yeah
its used 3 times in the op:
- Light passing (ig like a train)
- Bufferfly over power lines
- Makoto and Thanatos
Do it on the thanatos one I think
idk about there tbh that shot is perfect not much i can really add onto it now. Or maybe instead of the light on the butterfly its a reload transition into the dark hour?
goint to try and also give the butterfly a glow effect as well
probably do a somewhat light blue bg so the lens flare is more visible, rn you can barely see it
maybe this style in the special window w/ the butterfly?
cause i tried a more dark hour look and it just looks off.
feel like thats the best way to really convey the scene
plus dark hour kind of implies night time which doesnt really work with the lens flare ig
defintely better
although i did have an idea for the butterfly that might look better than what i got rn
fes butterfly!
was able to figure out a shader for it
now its just a question of which butterfly looks better... although for cohesion towards the reload style, should probably stick to that one
Switch between the two!!!
i've always thought the fuuka camera was a bit too extreme for how short the shot is, especially with how yukari and mitsuru's parts are more subdued
but i do like the idea of adding something more to her section
(also love the new yukari segment)
had this as an idea
building off what you already have
and since yukari's on ground level, and mitsuru's on the roof
could do an in between with the camera outside of fuuka's window
or inside fuuka's room behind her
just using her key art as a placeholder cuz i dont wanna render out a model
i really like the transformation between OG butterfly and Reload butterfly, so maybe you could combine the two of these in the shot?
use OG background for the panes 1, 2, and 4, and reload for the third one?
i also think the greyscale effect looks kinda odd with the train window style, since the original was kinda film reel/photo series-ish, and using the old vs reload style to differentiate it instead could potentially work better
if you go with this, i think having the transition between yukari and fuuka should come from the top of the screen rather than the middle and bottom
sort of give a moving up vibe without actually moving upwards
(these are ofc just my personal ideas. put your creative vision first! i'd love to see what you end up with either way)
I love the work you're doing so far!
How far in are you?
have a small chunk of scenes left but going back and fixing older ones
fair enough yeah
possible idea for mitsuru cut
like the camera movement, simple but like yk clock sooo
before fine tuning & shader but yea
plus the general motion of the propeller too
I like that
Clock it! Yeah i like it :>
Honestly I think having a more static shot as a whole works a lot better for Fuuka, I feel like here there's too much going on and it disrupts the simplicity BMD visuals are going for
finding a good color scheme rn.
I want to try and include the cherry blossoms but might just be abit much, will have to wait and see once i get most of the fixes done
Cute
woahhhh this looks amazing so far
wouldnt snow be mitsuru's wheelhouse
(/j)
but naw i like the ideas you're going for
waow fun camera angle
also, scene should mostly be done now. touched it up a decent amount
also made a slight addition to the akihiko scene which I think really completes it and fixes the previous issue of it all blending in together
incredible work being done here, super sick to see the amount of progress made on this
starting on junpei shot
the pose hes doing is based on the og p3 artwork, so trying my best to capture that
:D
Fire
the chidori shadow on junpei is so good haha
youve done so well with this
time for the money shot
working on the thanatos animation
still need to figure out how to fully incorporate the scrolling text
Looks really great with makoto
kind of p5 styled
i mean, could be that, the original animation is in like 20 fps as far as i could tell, compared to 24 fps
maybe adding some choppiness could make it better
actually yeahhhh
thats much better
yeah, ill keep fine tuning the animation and scene but generally thats really it for this shot
I don't know for sure how i'll do it but I think i have an idea for it
omg just a few more scenes left, this looks so good so far
wait i might be crazy but why does it kinda look like thanatos is in sync with the person singing burn my dread like for those few seconds b4 it goes to the next scene
my god
probably the best texture/style i can get for this part without absolutely destroying my pc
Ill see if i can get some variance so its not as uniform following the path but yeah
last thing will probably be layering, and put the effect behind thanatos but above the text somehow
er
the bitrate is attrocious hahahaha
I actually think this is a lot better than before, because before thanatos was on the same value of makoto which created more visual clutter than having them seperated like the original (if that makes sense)
before i mask things out and all that
the general sorta animation, not going to clean it too much since its meant to be pretty blocky
if anything ill animate the rectangles that mask out the shadow
Peak cinema
skinwalker looking ah shadow
yeah this sequence is looking really great so far
I'm very impressed every time I open this channel
thinking of doing something similar to this shot for here
dont exactly know how ill overlay the faces of sees in the background, maybe with tarot cards also falling by?
messing with colors
jjust going to experiment until I find something i like
Preferably maybe a blue bg but I might just have to stick to the white and red colors
at the very least the particles behind should be a good addition
this looks good too lol
decided to just draw Makoto n ryoji, plus I can do a simple anim with hair and cloth
woahhhh all of this progress looks amzing so far
honestly quite incredible
I can still make it out to be Yukari
excellent. i love this lil' guy's design. i really want to mod in a proper boss fight with him if only he had animations.
his fight is the perfect representation of the inverse magician: it doesn't even happen, there was simply a missed opportunity that it could have
10/10, what more can you say?
I imagine itās cause itād have absolutely mogged Makoto
nahhh they shouldve done the p4 method of throwing you straight into a boss fight š š
More cinematic the way they did it though
Yeah
i mean, if he was on his own, yeah, but really, i feel like he'd have been able to hold out with just orpheus until mitsuru and akihiko came up to help. then they'd manage. but, thematically, the full moon shadows represent their inverted arcana meanings, and a boss fight designed around unrealized potential means, you know, a boss that doesn't actually get a chance to fight you.
True but you also have to realize itās really just be Mitsuru and Makoto
wait, mitsuru is weak to fire... damn, they needed junpei to have won that fight.
so based
going to add some visual minor visual effects but besides that this shots pretty much done
THREE MORE TO GOOOOO
cant wait to see the finished product bro, you are cooking hard
Atlus hire this man
and it just keeps getting better and better with each preview/progress on this project š„¹
i think you should slow down ryoji's scarf animation it looks a bit odd with all the other movement but otherwise it looks insane
Yeah honestly your right
hell yeah it's looking awesome
for the shinji shot, thinking of how to update it/ add more focus to him ig.
two main ideas i have in mind
possibly using the bleeding eye as a background or something could be a cool motif for him in the opening
i wonder if the blood on his eye is a shader or a texture they used . . .
found the mesh for it, but havent found any texture yet
found it (i think)
yeah thats pretty much it
also ik this is supposed to be shinji but the hair always looked off to me haha
also wonder exactly what his bg is meant to be too..
Did the storyboard not note it
the storyboard actually has an entirely different shot similar to the p4 anime weirdly enough
Huh....
actually wait nevermind the sequence of events was just weird here
but this shot never was used in the original, might be where the anime for p4 got the idea...
"Numbers and letters popping out of the cell phone"
for the ikutski shot:
"A cube extends from a black pool inside the room as you lie there."
Mfw they used this for a P4 anime OP
yeah like, clearly this was their idea with it
uhhhhh well since its an ikutski shot ill hafta figure something else out then.
'
possible ideas
honestly the hand covering the moon is really good imagery but also then youd not be able to see who it is haha
beyond just doing the shot 1:1 at least something to add onto it at least
mentions what i assume is the shadow goop so maybe just include that ig
BANGER idea!
this artwork but ikutski with the shadow masks
maybe even just do the tarrot cards similar to the shot of aigis
the oddest part to me was that it was ikutsuki in the opening fmv but takaya does that pose in-game
laying on the floor with arms out
yeah ngl
even thinking of just incorporating strega or at least takaya into the shot instead
I mean, Ikutsuki and Strega are connected, so having them in the shot would make sense
Mf in the middle, the three stooges as a triangle
yeahhh
some ways i could include them
That's supposed to be Shinji? I always thought it was Ikutsuki
Same
Yeah I thought the line across his face were his glasses
For the longest time I thought it was shinji
i feel like putting aspects of strega in the scene would be a bit too on the nose
and while he is connected to them, they don't actually factor much into his character arc as a whole
imo recreating the shot more faithfully is the route to go, cuz that single shot is one of the most evocative in the opening and is already kind of busy as it is with fragments of tartarus floating around
hmmm
the general framing of the original does kind of resemble the entrance to gekkoukan, actually
with the three lanes and a wall
now just kind of imagining him laying in front of the entrance to gekkoukan, with water covering the cobbles and reflecting the sky / moon / tartarus underneath him
going out of lurk to say Maybe it's Shuji after he ||fell off of tartarus||
Though it also looks like hes on a massive bed (in that screenshot at least)
Yeah could be that too. Also the storyboard notes all it really notes is the room is just an empty cube
yeah that's most likely what they were going for
unless they wanted to give him a really REALLY big bed
They wanted to make sure he was very comfy.
finding a good style for ikutski here.
lol
going to blendshape the FUCK outta the model to make it look less 3d but that'll be hard
testing out some compositions
hm id probably have to change it up though to make it match more with the same shadows as the orignal, because the balance is kinda off
main issue is if i were to just overlay the tartarus pngs over the shadows/dark parts only, its kind of hard to make it out compared to the og where there was more shadow present especially in the corners of the screen
That's the texture of the entrance right
yea
school entrance
something just kinda like this ig
ill probably mess with the scale of things
I assume the background is going to scroll?
yea
I like that idea
I think so
I guess so
hmm
Yeah.
ill keep messing around with timing and stuff but honestly not much I can really think to add without overly changing it too much
I think turn the white lines in the brick a bit more muted?
True
Maybe make ikutski and the path move back? Like itās moving in the scene cause it feels a bit too static
Like the camera is moving away from him
I feel the repeated texture of the bricks distracts the eye a bit much.
Just my take on it but was thinking something like this
Like a black "light" from inside an abstraction of the school showing the sky on the ground where ikutsuki lies, and the sides open like that just for artistic purposes to match the original
Cuz the original is very striking
Also partially mirrors thanatos in the P3R opening
And nyx avatar
...you know, they never did say what happened to ikutsuki's body
Did it just like
Disappear
Or did mitsuru's family clean it up
Or a secret third option
Imagine a schoolgirl caught a glimpse of his obliterated body before school began
2nd option easily
Because no way dude fell that high and didn't see a bit of impact
Part of the thingy they establish is they always cover up shadow related incidents in there
Like some shadow government type shit about the monorail incident
And the Ken's mom thing
Especially the Ken's mom thing
I do wonder how they covered up Shuji's splattered body
What lie can they string to make it believable
Midsuru had to stop crying for 2 mins to call the estate and they did the rest
A lot of the drama cds kinda show she isn't super involved in that side of the business until a bit later
She only took the reigns after the answer, with the process starting that a bit after her dad's death
oooh
Funny actually
Ok so
Her dad has a will written right
The only thing Mitsuru got was a wine cellar in that document
Yes it's the same one you see in the movies, the main gesture in that is that Mitsuru has a choice to not actually follow the group and be herself
Her arc has always been going to do that regardless
But it's kinda funny she just got
Oh Mitsuru gets some wine
Lmao
Pharos has red eyes because he's spiritually actually a girl like Kotone
ok. yeah. you cooked there ngl.
:D thank you!
The Death Arcana does represent change and transformation as you transition between periods in your life...
Although tbh I think I do like what I have so far, just have to touch it up is all
For contrast have Tartarus move down in the background
starting on the shot.
I have one main idea which is to base this shot around either the top floor of tartarus or even the top of Tartarus itself. leaning towards the top floor of tartarus since the non euclidian geometry reminds me a lot of that block.
the story board notes also state:
"The protagonist runs up a staircase reminiscent of German Expressionism or De Chirico, with the Aegis visible in the distance below."
*references on what they mean as well
concept so far. At least i have a good plan for makoto
and so it begins.
The last, agonizing stretch. YOU'VE DONE SO WELL!!!
starting work on the main running animation
Nice
Not again
ooooo the running animation looks nice so far
