OKAY
this is a total accident because I was messing with camera angles and forgot I had it tracking my changes into the animation
BUT
THIS KINDA GOES HARD???
if i make it slower and smoother i think it could actually work
also i forgot about those steam bgs they were cool
then ill just do an impact frame and then the money shot 
then i can clean up the lineart and go by frame by frame

figured out a concept for this shot since its next
moving light source sorta like this shot from pq2, have it flash a couple times with just makoto to then just one flash with thanatos then back to makoto
I think thisll just be the best way to recreate this scene, keep makoto static on the train window with the lights passing by leaving the effect
obv itll have to be a mostly black bg but thats fine imo
also i can use the quickly moving light poles to my advantage to seamlessly transition between makoto and thanatos
ill change the framing n everything just thought I'd document this before I forget this idea lol

This project is amazing keep up the good work but I do have some suggestions. In the Memento Mori section where it transitions to Yukari do you think you could make that bit smoother like add a line transition like how you did when the camera moved up close to Yukari or something. Also could you move Fuuka to the left in her section it seems very cluttered on the right side. (sorry to be so picky, its your project and you can do what you want with it). If these aren't easy fixes then don't worry about these are just personal nitpicks of mine.

and yeah im going to go back and remake some of the older parts like yukari or fuuka. Mid project ive come to a better understanding of what I want to accomplish and those no longer 100% fit it. Ill keep aspects of them but also change them to be more consistent

its a mix of fes and reload, but yeah thats just because I havent gone back to frame by frame clean up the line art

since youre going for a fes/reload mix in the model, i think its just the eyes that would need slight adjustment. Makoto's eyes are not upturned and have a flat top. Providing anime cutscene examples as thats the look you were aiming for

fes specifically has nothing in the lower lashline other than the outer corner, and reload just adds lower lashes (which are significant in makoto's p3r redesign)

which direction you want to take it is up to you but additionally the lineart inconsistency just skews the impression
i could give more detailed feedback later on if youre looking for that by comparing cutscenes/opening and how they draw makoto

Ive been using blendshapes heavily to adjust his face shot by shot so it's a bit inconsistent but moreso I use them to compensate for camera angles and such
im not really knowledgeable in those kinds of details i was moreso trying to ask about the model itself

I actually kinda prefer this first one here bc I think it is meant to stand out. third one also looks good and might clash less depending on what style you're going for, since you're obviously deviating away from the style of the original

its the same but doesnt feel right, going to keep just picking at it until i find an angle or something im satisfied with

generally I prefer shots closer to the original. for example, with this shot, I actually don't really care for Koromaru being there

thats fair tbh, trying to find ways to include Koro or Ken but also it does change the vibe of that shot
could you include them anywhere as background characters alongside the other ones?
probably the best spot you're going to get them in. you could also try to add additional shots and or try to group them with other party members

welp, time for the aigis model update
Through doing makotos I was able to learn a lot about the style and what exactly to do so hopefully she should be quicker
I'll still try to find a blend of reload with a bit of fes but I will admit she just looks very different between versions so I feel as if I should lean more towards the reload look for consistency
even if fes aigis has a special place in my heart haha
shader helps alot, main things to do:
- slightly rounder and bigger eyes
- bring eyes slightly closer together
- lower eyes just by a bit (look at eyebrows)
- shorten chin but round it out nicely
- Just like makoto, add detail to eye meshes
As much as I love FES Aigis, I def think leaning more towards the Reload style for this is the best way to go :3

I like using animations to test the face in 'motion' but so far so good, just have to keep adjusting slowly till things look right
testing it as just lineart, starting to see more things to fix now

in terms of face proportions I think i now got it pretty spot on

Tbh the current transition seems fine to me. Its just missing aigis standing here with the red tube of light. Which could be why the transition could feel off cuz the entire composition of the scene ismt there yet. Also an idea maybe use MC's MP3 Player for the red tube but with a ton of bloom glow. Like EPA opening.

Maybe you add a bg like epa red and blue split. Idk if that would work cuz the scene being white. The flowers flowing and the mp3 could look beautiful. With a touch of bloom. I would also omitt the earphone peice outta the shot. Maybe the lanyard too so its closer to the og light. And the cylinder just slowly spins as the shot progress. Just some ideas.
the bg colors is a good idea, but yeah for this shot with aigis the bg should be white so theres no major contrast between the shots. Also thats fair for the earphone.
Ill actually adjust it just a tad since the mp3 player should be more the focus, but rn the lanyard takes up more visual space

the red-tinted aigis here definitely shouldn't have her armband, i think. the distinct way she's running with a stern, cold expression is identical to how she is when she's preparing to attack ryoji on moonlight bridge (right pic) and saying, "a machine is created for a purpose. mine is to defeat you." which gives me the impression this shot is endgame aigis (left pic, right) looking back on her emotionless killer robot persona (red/pink aigis) she displays both times she attacks ryoji on the bridge. reload also reinforces this interpretation in its opening when it depicts past aigis on the bridge with red hair.
she's not wearing the armband in that scene, and besides that, since the armband represents her bonds with sees, it makes sense the red-tinted aigis isn't wearing it. that's her without her bonds.
Probably the storyboard for bmd would mention this

even so, i feel pretty strongly that the intent is symbolically depicting aigis looking at her shadow here, one of her other selves inside her being represented by the aigis that wants to kill ryoji. that's not how she normally runs outside of that scene with him, she looks cold and angry, and the other aigis looks slightly dismayed, like she doesn't like the part of herself she's seeing. could just be interpretation bias, though, so i'll leave it at that.

yeah, not a literal shadow self. symbolically, an aspect of herself she doesn't like.
i say that because the shot before is the protag and orpheus, his persona/shadow/other self
i'd just keep the armband off since she isn't wearing it on the bridge either time she fights on it. when she wanders there to find human ryoji, she's just acting on her own and following her original programming to eliminate death, not acting as a member of sees. you know, thematically. obviously it wasn't part of an operation either.

then they realize that it's a much more integral part of the appeal of P3 than they thought, so they started to emphasize them in FES
that's how you get introduction to s.links on the first day, and their subtle inclusion on the first days as background characters
Reload doubled down on this aspect by showing later s.links such as Mamoru in the first month
I could just make them full red like the og to make them less 'distinct' to match bmd but also a bit of distinction for fmfl

felt like adding some shit and decided on this, the idea is to have the lines work like a clock
and also transition the scene w/ the styles (maybe?)
just a very quick concept idea for the motion though

I can then add a final hand that transitions the bg and characters to the bright blue during fmfl's chorus
also i got the motion of the hands from the character trailers for reload
like for example as the hand moves, it can reveal the circles from the og and transition the sl's to a full red style
plus makoto + orpheus
I feel kind of dumb realizing these should 100% be the reload version of the burn my dread color palette of sees
slowly trying to get makoto's animation to match the og, like to make it as smooth as possible
also his shading is just a place-holder till i can figure out something to match the scene

i think you should just make skin and clothing white then make the uniform + hairs a muted blue
also you should def make orpheus and makoto* have the same colors either way. otherwise it will stand out in a way you dont want
makoto did original have different coloring than what you gave him which does match orpheus

Oh yeah I am going to have the new outfits, its basicially like going to be a transition between the original white bg with the og clothes, to the reload ones with the blue background
(Even then if you think of Reload Burn My Dread youโd probably think of Burn My Dread with Reloadโs animated art style. This is more like 3D Burn My Dread.)

And Reload's animated cutscenes, or even Full Moon Full Life's animation is pretty distinct from it
If anything, burn my dread in the style of reload would be a different direction from any other reload related animation if it were officially made
if you just mean how the original of both are 2d animated, then yes! they both are. While I could like yknow, animate it, I chose to do it in an art format I'm much more comfortable with.
I mean I still am contemplating going back and reanimating it, just cleaning up the lineart I'll make in blender.
Part of this project is doing my best to emulate the 2d animated style without going fully 2d animated. Which has helped me a ton with other minor blender projects so so far its def a success

Mimic the reload dark hour transition with clocks going with the main one, theyre going down, and then have bubbles akin to the credits go up
The 'light' in the original will be like substituted w/ the water shine
like maybe light rays through the water? that start the light glow then it settels into just the shine

The clouds will more than likely be the most difficult aspect of it tbh but ive already found possible ways to do it

think camp menu, but the water filters through slowly? i made these mockups kinda too Circle in how the water opens up, you can commit to the rectangle shape more. think of it as a water tank or smth being opened up from the middle (i dont really know how to describe it..) i know this is really hard to bring into actual reality but you can do like light rays which will help. no worries if you dont use this idea its hard to implement ๐

re: the red aigis/mp3 scene i love the vibe and framing but i feel it loses something now that aigis is no longer being lit by the object?
the object itself was kind of random in the original, but now that it's been given actual meaning here maybe that could be reincorporated somehow?
like the display being lit up (taking artistic license since the mp3 player wouldnt actually light up like this)
it links the mp3 player with the rest of the scene more directly
otherwise, no notes! i'm loving it

the original opening does a lot with simplicity, and a single spiral fits the aesthetic vibe way better
reload also didn't do the spirals around orpheus this time, so it wouldn't be visually inconsistent with Reload itself
