I'm still working on the field stuff for gmostudio so I haven't given it much thought no. It could be inverted normals I guess? But that'd be weird.

yeah i took a lot of inspiration from the art direction of p3r

(i figured making the fog a bit more green would make sense just to kinda stylize it against the fog colors in p4)
I'm not 100% sure on the approach though. here's daytime fog for reference (same order)
generally same color as the fog if that's what you're asking
ig in this case the fog is thick enough that you can't reallyyyyy see the sky but ingame the skybox is not affected by fog

honestly I'm not super sure where to start with this, I'll probably mess around and see if I like the results
the entrance is certainly quite a bit brighter with warmer colors in P4GA
the dungeon itself uses colder lighting with varying fog thickness. i was initially thinking of using a pale yellow fog to reflect the vibes of the entrance but maybe that isn't the right approach
this one actually has a skybox interestingly enough (that needs editing)
but maybe something like this?
I'd treat the inside fog as separate from the outside fog personally 
it's already otherworldly
and then here are the stock dungeon + boss floor ENV
i was thinking of messing with the skybox texture or whatever that is

and i decided to do this - its a bit exaggerated compared to the anime but
now i think p4g keeps the two fight ENVs looking similar but I thought it'd be cool to try doing something like this to contrast them a bit more

I think removing the backgrounds look cool and it reminds me of older games not loading faraway assets

if you remove the fog in dungeons you'll see that the floor sections stop rendering at a pretty close distance
and then atlus overcorrected with gfd and rendered everything with no lod 
i think i need to adjust the chara lighting in the normal battle. the blue lighting looks a little bit unnatural like that

I'm guessing people generally like it but I did get one (1) good piece of feedback, that the background cave textures added a unique aesthetic to the dungeon and that it was sad to see them go (this is something I pointed out previously)

@heckingchonker I do have a toggle to bring back the skybox (it is actually a rock texture, sorta like you're going through a cave, which I suppose makes sense for this dungeon!)

vastly prefer the battle and boss stage changes
i like the fog changes for the dungeon, but i feel like being able to see objects way in the distance helps with the sense of scale
the default skybox is really ugly though, which makes it tough to say what's best
i feel like not being able to see distant objects makes the scale seem massive
maybe that's just my brain tho 
not being able to see it makes it feel smaller to me, because all you can see is the small area around you
but with a skybox, you see the silhouettes of massive Things in the distance with distant light filtering down from cracks in the mile-high ceiling

i just think the actual rock texture they used is ugly
it's faint but you can definitely still see the cracks in the sky in the anime, and at least a bit of some kind of texture
but it's thankfully far less pronounced than the game
and tbh I'm not reallyyyyy interested in diving into texture hell lol. I have edited textures for this mod but I try to limit it y'know

and it's more obvious in motion, cuz the fog actually has some movement to it but the bright white spots and the vague "rough" texture behind things stay in place

it looks kinda crappy actually because the light rays just kinda arbitrarily come out of nowhere then

@frail radish do you know anything about if PM2s allow for the editing of field/chara lighting? many of the PM2s I've looked at so far just change fog and skybox

IIRC yes they can; it works by making an SLIGHT frame call with parameters set for both the EditorGroup (aka which SLIGHT object in the object table to get the parameters that determine whether the lighting is applied to everything, all character models only or one specific model) and the SLightDataIndex which is a reference to which set of lighting data to pull from the SLight table
There's actually a few events that use them but one event I found that does is E560_080 so you could look at that as a reference
this looks pretty good! being able to keep the sky color helps a lot
it would be nice if the lighting was a bit darker but I feel like that's going to be challenging

i think the fmv is about as good as you can make it
there's only so much you can do with color grading before it starts to look kinda bad
My fork does make it more readable yes, there are still some unknown fields but all the main ones that affect lighting (in particular the colour values for the lighting) are given proper names
see: movies that film in broad daylight but use a blue filter to make it look like night time to varying degrees of failure
I can see about making it darker it shouldnโt be too difficult but weโll see, and yeah I tried to keep the sky blue and the whites neutral-ish

The way I even documented the data was by messing with FES's event editor which did do the changes as expected there and I don't see why they would change it for P4G (especially when a lot of events do have SLIGHT data; could send you a list of all the files from my end since could also be that E560_080 itself is broken or something)
This all being said Im not even gonna be at my PC for like another hour at least so lol

now fortunately i was able to cut half the winter fields (apparently there's only one ENV, not two) but unfortunately i missed a few fields when i first counted and so yeah this next patch is gonna be a lot of work
and even after all that, the p4 ps2 fog particles will be absent which sucks
for every single field I need to do snowy and storm ENVs. I also need to do the shiroku pub, ski trip, beach, daytime hot springs, night time snowy/storm

unable to fix this fully. this is an issue in base game too
p4 has the velvet room door present too but it is obscured by the tv static and 4:3 aspect ratio (this is 16:9 so you can kinda see it)
this is the best I could really do without compromising the visuals too much... still partly present as you can see but even increasing fog doesn't fix its visibility
rise's dungeon has the same issue with the doors, some effects are just independent of fog
I was also hoping that using a different field FBN would do something about the door but nope! (E124_001 doesn't have the door present afaik)
Probably the easiest way you could address the issue (at least for that particular scene) is changing the camera angles so that the door is hidden off screen...
But that'd be changing the look way too much to still be in this mods scope really

Really considering that P4 (PS2) was only ever in 4:3 stuff like that that would've been hidden offscreen originally is just kinda to be expected I fear, not much to do about that
I mean Atlus clearly just accepted it in this case when making it widescreen even though elsewhere in the game they happily change angles to re-hide stuff to being offscreen
rly the other thing is that the door light effects are not hidden by fog at all

(this is field f018_001, but it seems like data.cpk\field\pack\f018_001_rmd.arc has m018_002.AMD which is why I thought that second bullet point could've been it...)
think I figured it out.... for some reason this event does not use tex2 for its skybox
