Compared to the amount of power you get from the eternity rune, I'd call it downright cheap
it's mostly the time sink to conver everything

Ok, I came up with a setup for making the essences that uses on base ars+trinkets and I think is very easy to understand and see what's going on, and another setup for crafting the charms that's also pretty simple to see what's going on. Now I just have to make the video lol. Neither are the most efficient setups, but the goal was simplicity/understandability, not efficiency

Eat the corrupted heart or something like that. Look in JEI for @trinkets and it’s the black item that takes an enchanted golden apple to make. Make it, look at the ground or wall, and right click in it. There will be no chat message, but you’ll notice your mana is back to normal

When you spawn in, directly ahead of you is the essences farm. Look left and you'll get a summary of how much time to expect to spend on it. Left of that (behind you as you spawn in) is a super basic bulk enchanting apparatus setup

You ate it, basically. If you keep doing that you'll see chat messages about progressing through various mage levels, capping out at 9th level. Each level gives you huge mana boosts. I've only tried it with the purple essences though, didn't know it worked with other essences

Honestly the main purpose behind the war/arcane/etc runes is to be intermediaries in crafting the eternity rune
the Eternity rune gives a massive buff to everything but it's the hardest to get as it requires like you get 2 greater Runes of the other kinds
I believe they all give more mana and Mana regen

I'm checking my game to see what the intermediates actually do if equipped though. I honestly never looked at them aside from being intermediate crafting steps
the Arcane runes give Max Mana, Mana Regen and spell power
War is Knockback Resistance, Armor and Attack Damage
Life is Movement Efficiency and Max Health
Death is Armor Toughness and Attack speed
Enigma, what version are you playing on? For me the tooltip shows the effects
weirdly enough the Greater Runes are actually stronger than the Eternity rune but you do only use up one slot to get all the effects
I decided to cheat only to make myself mortal again, cause even at being level 5, it was too stronk for me
I also crafted Heart of Blasphemy, deleveled myself to 0. Even without any levels I'm still plenty strong enough
But I am still wearing my eternity rune
I tried to use the Heart of Blasphemy but it wasn't doing anything for me oddly so I just got the Human soul and used that
For blasphemy, you have to rightclick on a solid block. No chat message, item doesn't disappear, it's silent

like I didn't have to worry about how much my spells costs
For me it was both. Even de-leveled I still have 10k mana, have tons of regen, and rarely concern myself with mana regen unless I'm spamming something particularly expensive (or turn on fast right click in tweakeroo and spam something cheap 100 times per second)

You can eat essences by right-clicking with them while facing a solid block. Like, hold an essence in your hand, look at the floor, right click. You'll see chat messages about leveling up as a wizard, to the max level of 9. Each level amplifies your mana, mana regen, and spell power.
You can use a heart of blasphemy to de-level back to mage level 0. Same usage instructions: hold in hand, look at a solid block, right click. There will be no chat message, and the heart is not consumed, it's very silent. But you'll notice your mana/regen/spell power go back down to normal levels.

By default, the amount of power you get out of eating essences is SUPER powerful. It took me from like 5k mana to 55k mana and I could spam spells that cost 5k mana without even seeing my mana dip, and I one-shot basically everything including bosses even with a basic
spell. This can be changed in the configs and if you're on a modpack it very likely has been changed to balance against the other mods in your pack
We installed this seperately on top of the Enigmatica Modpack so it's probably not super balanced. Gotta figure out how to edit the server configs, but TYVM
The settings are in config/ars_trinkets-common.toml and I think it's the variables damage_bonus, mana_bonus, and regen_bonus. I'm not sure what soul_quantity is for in the config.
can anyone tell me how the devour soul glyph works? And how can you become an ordinary magician if you don't care that you're a dark magician now, and is that a bad thing?

Not really, because the higher tier runes that are lower than the eternity provide 50% higher bonuses of their respective stats
Ah good point. With that in mind, the main purpose of crafting rings/lotuses is either to get to purple or to craft runes. The main reason for lower tier runes is to craft higher tier runes. Higher tier runes have a purpose of their own, or just be crafted into eternity rune

TBF if you also have ATAG and apotheosis, not sure you need to armor pierce. The damage gets into the 10,000s without even trying or stacking a glove.

Hmmm maybe it just hasn't been released yet because the file ars-trinkets/src/main/resources/assets/ars_trinkets/lang/en_us.json seems to have that key in there, and I believe that's where it comes from
If you open up the jar file, you might be able to find that translation file and set it yourself? Not sure though, I never really open jar files

Yep, on linux. My laptop came with windows 10 and I couldn't stand it! It enraged me, and windows 11 from what I understand is wo much worse

Used to use mac, it's what my work gave me and I kept that laptop as a personal laptop. Mac is unix so I didn't feel so out of place using it. But windows, damn, made me want to take a sledgehammer to the computer
Hmmm the extra spell slots aren't woring for me
even with the base ars spellbook. I first tried with the creative spellbook with no luck, so I switched to a normal base-ars archamge spellbook and still no extra slots.

Yeah, having lots of movement issues when the crown is on
However the damage reduction/extra lives thing does appear to work. Warden was only hitting me for a tiny bit of damage, and upon 'death' i went back to full hp. I didn't test if it was the full 10ish lives, only tested one "death"

sometimes I use it and it doesn't do any damage, other times I use it and i get one tapped

the first time I cast it I don't take a single tick
the second time I cast it I die instantly
it does generic damage
and you need to use nullify
after it

im not great at understanding the tech ends of things, why would it be randomly killing me like this?

ok weird question, how do you craft the glyph of inspect soul? it doesn't seem to have a recipe

as for your second question, i think it's time i add patchouli docs to the mod
as for the content it's relatively simple
you create essence (the hue shifted emeralds/diamonds) and either use it as crafting material or eat it to leve up
the levels have two "parts"
the first is cores the second level
cores need to be obtained via the mage heart items and they are level-specific
IE the lower tier of mage cores is usable by mage levels 1 to 3
after that you need to use the higher tiers one which are more expensive

cores are another multiplier that you can slap if you don't have enough mana

but at level 9 you have hundreds of thousands of mana

so fights between two level 9 guys are gonna basically be wet noodle slapping until someone crashes out and drops something with nullify defense

if two level 9s fight they'll do the same damage to each other as two level 1s
point is that the damage bonus/reduction of two players at the same level balances out
I was gonna guess this but then my dumb ass went "nah there's no way that's it, that would be REASONABLE"

anyways off to go hold down a 6k mana per second spell for as long as I want
I made one of those immortality engines that gives you a bunch of mana every tick and I was gonna put it on reactive armor
but then we added trinkets to the modpack and suddenly mana was a non-issue

I dropped a nullify defense air sword throngle variant on someone (equal circle) and they took no damage

umh, i think wealdguard would reduce air glyph damage by at least 75%

so it isn't so much "negates defense" as it is "built in nullify defense and oxidize"
it's wind shear + nullify

If you're on the ground, would cut or wind shear do more damage if you're air mage
I mean, it's the same damage type as wind shear but without the height stuff

iirc level 9 cuts damage by like 35x so if he has armor that might make the damage close enough to zero for minecraft to not count the hit
and also regular lightning bolt doesn't get boosted by the AT spell pwoer
since it's an entity doing damage and is this considered 'indirect'
so basically it gets reduced by a factor of 70
as the wealdguard would halve dmg from air
I used both red and regular and neither worked

Ars affinity takes air mage behind the shed and shoots it repeatedly because of the way that spell power/spell resistance works
but ty for all of this knowledge because this is the only reason I was able to figure this out at all
how much resistance points does it give you?
I believe its 300-400?
@forest gazelle maybe affinity bonuses are a bit busted?
The difference between affinity and no affinity was being oneshot frame one vs zero hit marker
Unless almost full immunity was intended
I think its just an issue with the way lightning damage is affected by air/spell power as a whole tbh

when you level up there's now tribulations (can be disabled) that act as challenges / gates
they can be enabled / disabled and difficulty configured
also another thing to test is if the extra glyph slots from the crown work

Absolutely, it shouldn't be mine since the only mods installed are the ones that make Ars work. Just in case, I removed all the others to see if it was some strange incompatibility issue.

The crown is an item, right? And it's called a crown, right? Because no matter how much I look, I can't find it.
Now let's talk about essences. You can only consume them when your hunger bar isn't full. I don't know if that was the intention or if you wanted it to work like a golden apple.
The tribulations seem pretty random in terms of the negative effects they give you. I've had blindness, poison, decay, weakness, etc.
They seem to work well to me, except that to get to level 2 of the circle, I didn't actually get any negative effects or anything. I just got struck by lightning that didn't do anything to me, even though I wasn't wearing any armor or anything.
I'll have to do more testing to see.

as for tribulations, they should only appear from level 3 onwards
the types are random, and the one with the negative effect only appears sometimes
The tribulations and text appear until you reach circle 2, but they do nothing more than add a waiting time to level up.
It's when you want to reach circle 3 that they start giving you negative effects and becoming a real pain.
The crown works strangely; I'll try to explain it clearly, but I'm not promising anything 🤣
The 10 slots don't work, and the stat bonus works and doesn't work at the same time.
If you start running with the crown, the FOV changes as if you had super speed. The problem is that you do get super speed, but only for a few moments, and then you instantly stop running and go back to walking as if you'd never pressed the run button.
When you die, you lose a life, but you gain invincibility for 5 seconds; you don't take any damage, then you return to normal.
The ability to reduce damage by 10% and the 9 extra lives seem to work perfectly.

also i suspect that the inspect soul glyph doesnt work and it just tell you what you are no matter if you cast it on someone else
Trinkets probably needs some supporting docs in ars.wiki at least. If your modpack doesn't nerf it heavily, Trinkets can throw up some big numbers quickly.

How do I disable it? Because after looking through the settings and trying to change everything, I can't find a way to do it. I thought that if I set the world difficulty level to 0.0 it would turn off, but it's still the same.
