Honestly it's so much more painful for me to hit higher tiers. Additionally I'd rather train more focus because I've got an account that can withstand so many hits before it's zeroed, and only dish out a handful before it's out of troops. Frankly you're rarely defending your hq in this game, but almost always attacking instead.

I started off with a taxi wall for defense when I was smaller because it was cheap defense. As my stats grew, so did my troops and tier, and while yes I still have my taxi wall, I have been promoting like a maniac so they are all top tier.

Yeah. Took me a bit to realize though it's good in case you get hit, but you don't want to be slow enough to be hit in the first place too. I will say, formations are an absolute boon for def. Massively reduces my casualties when I'm in my focus troop formation.
