#Anbernic RG476H
4442 messages Ā· Page 5 of 5 (latest)
kids these days can't handle getting a little wet smh
I was wrong about gamecube on the t820
406H is what I wish the 476H was except with the bigger screen
How about a 477H, with the D8300 chip, 4.7ā 120Hz screen, plastic shell, analog triggers, 406H style ergonomic grips, stick on top š
Nope that would make too much sense
no ergo, flat slab supremacy
I wish the 476h used the slimmer digital triggers from the rg arc/353p
I'd buy that in a heartbeat
I would take a flat slab, you can always adda grip but you cant remove ergo bumps. As long as the joysticks on top.
Stick on top?!
yeah idk about stick top, I feel like there are enough handhelds you can reach for if you are going to be playing stick top games
this screen is not small enough to be pocketable anyway
so you might as well get a rg557
Stick on top for sure if you want the dimensity or any Snapdragon chip
sure it is
Thereās no need for stick on top for budget devices. Only premium. 476 is a budget device. Its successors would be too. Honestly Anbernic made a mistake with having stick on top for the 406H IMO.
closest thing to this is the Odin 2 mini I;ve got one of those on the way as well
no they didnt with those ergo grips i can play 3D Gamecube games great with it and the dpad is still easy to reach
I was just testing all that
Good for you. Stick on top is still not ideal for the majority of console emulations played on budget devices.
Iād think stick on top + analog triggers and bumps goes together on a higher powered device that can play GC and PS2. For something focused on systems PS1 and below then dpad on top and digital bumpers makes more sense.
I think a refresh of the 406H would come with the dimensity chip maybe not the budget catagory anymore
Disagree
agree
Weāll find out sooner or later
Lol no. Those lines donāt run Android.
You do you boo. Anbernic has always had a clear distinction between product lines with OS being one of the factors deciding what tier the device is.
things change all the time
Sure. Doesnāt change that how they price the device also decides what tier they are. 476H being a successor to the XX line would be a clear āfuck youā to their budget-conscious customers.
I think unfortunately they probably are gonna go the mangmi/magicX route with their budget line going forward and it'll also be android using a g85 or something
its like a spiritual successor gives them room to up there prices
Wrong how?
last time I had a 406h I loved the form factor but it barely played gamecube games, kept hearing from people that the t820 can do gamecube so I gave it another try
indeed it can
It's a possibility. Though if the 476 was an XX successor, I'd imagine they would've been named it 47XX instead. I wouldn't be surprised if an actual 47XX comes out in a year or so. It took a while before they used the RG405 screens in the XX line. Would probably be the same if they decide to continue the XX line.
Havenāt even gotten the 406 screen in a budget line yet even though it would be perfect for a stickless budget vertical
Itāll happen eventually.
that's really the problem with t820. when the 556 dropped, there was already a zeitgeist of people who 'knew' it couldn't play gc/ps2, despite nobody having a nubia neo 5g to prove that.
now that we're several devices in, it still exists kind of a like a psychological fungus
Yes please
Soooooon
my drugs arrived and the rg476h feels extremely nice in the hands
Mines out for delivery I'll see it later tonight when I'm home from work
Ah... Will I really need to order this one to hold something new in my hands before the end of next month? š©
Arrived in 10 days
do it, it's very nice
I'm still waiting for GeekBuying to ship mine š
I shoulda just paid the small extra and got it from Anbernic day one
totally not jealous ;D
Jealous of you lot
The RG476H looks more pleasing, IMO. The joystick holes on the RG477M kinda look too big and a bit weird š
That is. Caused be the 45 degree camera angle, the holes are just as big
it's basically the same layout, same size, just plastic and stacked triggers
The first thing I did notice is that the d-pad is a bit more mushy
Anbernic did this on purpose, to make it feel cheaper
The 477m dpad definitely is better!
Your 477m dpad is presumably broken in a bit
I'm the only idiot that ordered grey aren't I
yes
I got grey š¤š»
Does this move to released devices now?
nothing moves to released devices anymore, the Pocket ACE and Pocket S2 are still stuck in upcoming, same for the RDS
Arnt there mods
I like it better this way tbh
The only game you ever need on all the devices.
post this photo on reddit and you'll get a million upvotes
possibly top of the SBCgaming Frontpage if nothing else interesting is going on
Eh. My desire to interact with Reddit has been even less lately. People are even more married to their opinions there than they are here lmao.
nah the problem with Reddit is not that they are married to their opinions but that their opinions are wrong
people there are much less informed and knowledgeable but act as if they knew what they were talking about
if you are going to be pedantic and insufferable about something at least know what you are talking about
The problem with Reddit is that one user in a subreddit will present their opinion as fact confidently. Then a big portion of the subreddit will investigate that opinion and find good things about it - without investigating any other alternatives - and then downvote the crap out of anyone that presents a different opinion regardless of merit.
Brotato on 4:3 is hard mode
Also when thereās no real time reaction itās even easier to be a keyboard warrior.
Has anyone come across any teardown/disassembly videos or photos of the 476h yet?
Russ opened up and showed the back inside of the 477m but didnāt open up the 476h in his vids so far
No issue with my retail unit, it stayed in all day without issues.
I just check mine and no issue. Got the Indigo color.
same here, my black one shuts the SD card cover absolutely fine... it's hard to get open tho
don't cut your nails if you want to change the SD card
At least that issue is fixed on production units! I was ready not to use an SD card to ensure it stays flat š
but I honestly don't like the rg476h case compared with the rg447m one, the later is sleek and flat and really small, the rg476h is big, bulky and has no flap to protect the screen from accessories, despite the compartment sadly being there
I saw another case pop up on AliExpress. It had a screen protector flap
probably was made for the 477m, no extra space for the triggers
Yea probably
you can btw use the official 477 for the 476 just fine, but the 477 won't fit into the 476 case
would be fun if the 477h fits into the 476h case, given how that thing basically has space for ergo bumps
you sure it's not the other way around? given how you need extra space for the triggers of the rg476h
the rg476h goes just fine into the 477m case, it's a bit propped up due to the triggers, but it closes properly
the rg477m doesn't goes into the 476h case, because it has no space for the inline triggers, like it's literally a bit less tall, but kinda wider... also it has space for ergo bumps, so I really think we will see something akin to the 406h soon that uses the 4.7" panel and probably the D8300... which will also fit into this case
No issue with my SD card cover. I'm also super happy with the Grey!
no issues with the black border?
doesn't bother me at all
Is the screen as good as we hoped? Uniformity, bleeding, vignetting etc?
nay those joysticks are the same but the divet around the 477m is clearly larger
plus the white of the RGB rim goes with black a little better then bronze
Does anyone have the purple and grey models? Whatās the deal with the bezels on the grey, is it just a bigger cutout?
As far as I can tell the screen looks amazing I really like the upgrade from the 406h.
My guess is they made the cut out in the plastic slightly bigger to add black bezel so there wouldnāt be so much light bleed/ glow into the light colored plastic of the grey.
tha screen does look gorgeous
I immediately stoped noticing the bezel on the grey and I love how it looks Iām very happy I went out of my comfort zone and got the grey
Also the shader subframes you can do with the 120hz screen looks Amazing. Overall super happy. Awesome device for me for older gen gaming to compliment the newer stuff on my portal.
Mines said āleaving customs, awaiting pickupā for the last 48 hours š¤
Yes indeed, i see it now as well
so, how does 4:3 left4dead run?
someone messaged my youtube account saying it's stable in gamehub after watching my winlator 10 l4d vid
buying a 4:3 dpad top Anbernic to play left4dead is... a choice
there is a whole era of 4:3-compatible dx8 and dx9 7th gen titles that don't have playable console ports on arm. might as well crack that pot open.
dpad works fine for movement in fps
debatably better
in most of them
yeah, you can map wasd to the dpad. that is a thing
but also I'm very much a pc gamer so the idea of playing an FPS with anything but a mouse causes me psychic damage
try playing tf2 on a controller sometime. engineer and spy....
I know some competitive heavy players use a trackball
ew
the flicks are more important than the sniping I guess
i don't know how trackball players do it
I don't mind them for RTS and RPGs
but yeah FPS no thanks
I did play morrowind with a trackball at one point
that's about as close to an FPS as I'll go with it
Id rather a trackball than controller. A friend used to play quake with one
What was the frame rate like on l4d?
oh yeah for fps mouse >>>>>> trackball > trackpad > lenovo pointer nipple mouse thing > any gamepad
mouse >>motion controls>>>> trackball > trackpad > lenovo pointer nipple mouse thing > any gamepad
I've never tried motion controls
i like them a lot but honestly i don't play any game where i need to aim
lenovo pointer nipple mouse thing
There is a more vulgar name for this....
there's also a more professional name for it
the trackpoint
motion controls are also the most fun option i'd say
I once sat behind a guy in an astronomy lecture that was just playing unreal tournament with the trackpoint on his thinkpad
unhinged behavior
the game was about 8 years old by that point
the school provided dell rental laptops to all students and he brought his own thinkpad that looked older than the rental dells
hello gorgeous
absolutely love this colorway, it's stunning in real life
photos and videos don't make it justice
Thatās exactly how I feel it looks so good in person
also, what do you know, the black border is almost imperceptible in real life use
Mine finally shipped from GeekBuying. It's gonna be old news by the time I get it lol
we will have a rg476v by then
it's any of the crap Anbernic pre installs worth using? been a while since my last Android Anbernic
gonna assume no
The emulators will work, they'll just be pretty out of date. And some are paid apps that they've pirated, which some people are against on principle
I always delete 'em and install my own up-to-date ones
I uninstall everything then reinstall what Iām going to use.
same
Man the grey looks nice
I skipped the slide and the rg477m so this is my first time with this screen
I can definitely tell that it's not OLED
blues in particular look a little dull
it's not the end of the world, but it does feel like it falls short of being the ultimate 4:3
speakers are also kinda meh, not worse than your average Retroid but not gonna win any awards
controls are absolutely excellent, shoulders/triggers feel very high quality, even the sticks feel great
sadly they fumbled the position of the start/select buttons but otherwise it's mostly bliss
Howās bfi??
haven't had time to test it yet
but I wasn't a big fan when I tried it on the Portal
weight in hands feels pretty good, not super lightweight but not heavy either, you don't notice it when playing
size also feels like it strikes a good balance between large screen but still relatively compact
I'm not sure if I would call it pocketable, but it is the most compact I've seen for this screen size profile
pocketable for winter coat pockets I guess
overall first impressions, this is giving me ultimate 4:3 retro machine vibes except for a couple minor blemishes
I really hope the eventual Retroid mortgage screen is at least 4.7"
we'll see, they'll definitely have my attention if they do a 4:3 OLED
although I definitely prefer Anbernic's controls to Retroid
somehow even the sticks in here feel smoother than on the rp5, not sure if placebo
Finally landed on UK shores
oooh
Itās actually a really pretty handheld! Much nicer in person than renders š
You should try crt beam itās so much better than BFI imo
Handhelds with 120Hz displays can utilize some awesome tools within RetroArch to enhance your experience. Let's explore how black frame insertion and the CRT beam simulator shader can improve motion clarity and give your device a CRT-like effect.

Black frame insertion: https://emulation.gametechwiki.com/index.php/Black_frame_insert...
if Anbernic does it again, same shell, same everything, with a D8300 they can sell me that screen a 4th time
Haha so far only slide and this š but i will have to agree. Hey if you get the DS then 6 times?!?
if they use the exact same screen and a t820... yeah
Gonna sell my ace and keep.the 476h
Only complaint is this dam clicky L and R buttons but I plan to solder new ones
poor ACE, it's such a nice device
Is that board from the 476h? Would you be able to show more internals and mainboard photos? š
What makes you prefer the 476?
Lighter, thinner, quieter face buttons and cheaper.I only play up to gc and ps2 and even then I have the portal for gc ps2 and up. Main emulation is gba and even on 4:3 device with the black bars the screen size is the same
Need to reopen to measure button size so I'll take some pics then
Oh youāre amazing thank you
You get a decent size bigger screen for 4:3 home consoles and 120hz too
Even 16:9 content would be the same size on both
Since the 476h screen is just as wide just taller
Iām excited for the other direction though - the 476h screen is just a stall for tate arcade, neogeo pocket colour, gameboy etc as the RG cube while being wider for gameboy and higher res for tate arcade
Thank you for the photos!
My only complaints after reviving my unit are the shoulder buttons are a bit āscratchyā when using them sometimes. I might do a bit a teardown like this and see if itās rubbing on anything
L2 R2?
Fair. I thought about switching the other direction but havenāt pulled the trigger on an ace.
ill be listing one later today š
Iāve been wondering if you can swap the 447m main board into the 476h
Yep
Really hoping there's a soft mod we can do here to reduce the noise
apparently the pipe/sink/blower used on the t820 devices is just enough to keep them cool for gamehub, but is definitely not enough for the d8300 devices. they zoom up past 80c after a few minutes of RE2 Remake or TItanfall 2
kinda wild that we're one proper cooling setup away from a decent arm2x86 handheld
I donāt have any odd feeling like that on my unit fwiw
I am frequently having issues with RG launcher somehow opening - but it seems to be more ES-DE crashing and causing RG Launcher to open even tho itās not default
my SD card tray closes flush as well btw
seems like Anbernic did do fix the issue in retail units
It can change if you push or pull the triggers left and right
Iāll dig into it deeper on the weekend
Otherwise I also have noticed a fair bit of image retention when using sub frame bfi WITHOUT a CRT shader on. With some shader like crt-easymode it greatly reduces the image retention
I have to put a decent amount of pressure on them towards the outside of the device to get any real friction on mine
Itās arrived Woop
Fastest way to check out bfi? Download retro arch, slap a crt shader in and put a snes game on?
Itās a big boy, weighty too
Glad I didnāt go 477, that would have been too heavy for my liking
Anyone know if 1280x960 handheld overlays exist?
https://old.reddit.com/r/ANBERNIC/comments/1mvk7bv/rg477m_960p_bezels/ there are working links in the comments
Thank you!
Does silksong run well on the t820? If so is it best through the android port or winlator?
posted this on reddit but you guys will probably appreciate it more: https://www.reddit.com/r/SBCGaming/comments/1nvceyd/the_ultimate_showdown_that_nobody_ever_asked_for/
I'm happy, I wanted an updated RG552 and I got it
Finally got my arrival date, TOMORROW š Pretty pumped, I've gone from 35XX-H > 40XX-H > RG476H
pretty straight upgrade path
The screens very awesome for a non oled, gave the same feeling to switching the rpmini on for the first time
Almost oled
it's not quite OLED, but definitely not a cheap LCD either
I've been waiting forever for something that 1) is dpad top 2) has Anbernic quality dpad + face buttons 3) has a large 4:3 content screen area and 4) is not metal
this is the first time in years that I feel like I might finally retire the rg552
this what I wanted also. this handheld is one of my favorites for under ps2/GC. Just a joy to use.
now somebody make this with OLED
does anyone know if 4PX tracking will eventually say "on the road with driver" or something to that extent? Mine's been stuck on "transferred to local facility + been processed" for a couple days now and I keep wondering if I'm going to get a surprise delivery or not
well, is it your local or their local? š
What's the best crt shader to use with BFI on this device?
My local for sure haha
I ask, because I remember it saying transferred to local facility, but it was still moving through China
for some orderes I made
Oh yeah fair enough, mine has definitely arrived in the country and cleared customs a couple days ago
I would have expected delivery today based on that timing but not sure what's happening
CRT-beam-simulator.slang
And
Zfast_crt_finemask.slang
Thanks for the help.
I also like crt-easymode and crt-gwfw-fast
I really donāt like the way crt-beam works by default, with anti-image retention that lightens and darkens the screen, and also the scan bar things
Turning them off looks great, but if you stay static in game for too long it can cause temporary image retention
What country?
New Zealand
Oh yeah can't help ha. Could look up the tracking on 17track?
Honestly didn't scroll back far enough to see if you said you did
Nah but it's no different on 17track
Would have gone to a local depot in Auckland which is where it would have entered via customs, and it's usually 2 days from Auckland to where I am but that can always give or take a day
hopefully tomorrow otherwise it'll be next week
The ANBERNIC RG476H is in. Could this new look take the device to new heights, or does it have the same issues under the hood?
š WHERE TO BUY RG476H: https://anbernic.com/products/rg476h?sca_ref=2989165.ndgMrD2cHc&sca_source=written-review&ref=retrododo.com
š¹ Checkout GAMENOOK, upcycled retro gaming accessories and use code "RETRODODO" f...
Mine seemed an extra day behind here in the US too. Expecting it tomorrow finally
It just arrived. Why am I more excited for this than the 477M ?
Retro Dodo loves to counter signal. He also admits he is bored by retro handhelds and wants āinnovationā.
Itās like phones, where can you go?
Yeah like phones, they have perfected the basic model. At this point we just want better screen and cpu.
I kinda like the simple design of it although it reminds me of a squished NS Lite š
Oh, wrong tag, sorry there
Everyone's idea of perfect is going to be different. I agree the differences are kinda 'washed out' but what people buy most is going to be what they make more of. Niche sales are cool, but a lot of time and effort for limited return.
PSP is surprisingly pretty decent here
you get black bars, but at 4.3" effective content area I find it big enough, it's enjoyable
Itās the same size as the actual psp
So the games were designed to work at that size
This is my first T820 device. Itās great, but if you are into playing with advanced shaders itās not powerful enough while the 477M is noticeably more powerful. I find the T820 does not seem any better than the T618/405M. But itās scaling at double the screen resolution so working harder.
we're getting into Survivor's Bias saying stuff like 'because it can't do the same niche thing t618 can't do, it's the same as a t618.'
Iām just being honest. Iām finding they can run the same shaders, and cannot run the same shaders. While the 477M can run many more. I thought the T820 would be more in between.
But it does have to scale 2x the screen resolution. So that requires more power than the T618
I popped the Odin 2 sticks on this and it works really well. The lower profile lets you access the dpad and buttons a bit easier. It allows me to hold it slightly differently with my thumbs more straighten. Quite a nice change I think!
have to remember that psidozer has a big stick up his arse as far as the t820 is concerned š
i mean the 477m is something like 5x the power of the t820 here š
are the Odin 2 sticks different from the small Odin 2 Portal ones?
This literally is what I told a friend of mine this morning too. The stick height is just slightly too tall and makes it feel a tad awkward. Glad the Odin 2 sticks work, I'm about to pop mine on!
I'm coming from linux (but daily android on my phone) and haven't played with shaders, who has a good guide? YouTube is nice, but written is great too.
no, same ones
I haven't found this to be a problem, I guess it depends a lot on hand glove size, but for me the default caps work great and don't get in the way, I don't feel compelled to change them
say what you want, but the t820 has 'everybody's ex' syndrome at this point. no one person can agree on why they don't like it, but every single person agrees that their reason is why they left.
the odin 2 is hitting that point too now that the Konkr is out. for my friend that sold his to an inventory guy, it was because it overheats at 5x ps2.
upside down flag, is everything alright? don't tell me you are also a gov worker š
Everything isnāt alright but i canāt say much more than that here. I am a gov worker, thankfully not federal at this time.
gotcha, I understand, somebody reached out to me recently telling me they were also a gov worker and were pretty stressed out about the whole situation so I understand, really sucks
psp would be pretty nice on this, i play quite a bit on my 406h
Yeah psp on 4ā 4:3 is fine on this it should be great tbh
it's excellent, I would have no qualms on recommending this for PSP
should 3-4x the library easily though that was from my experience on the other t820 devices, i dunno how the larger screen impacts that if any š
the t618 was already doing x3-4 without an issue, the t820 eats the psp for breakfast
true you can most likely up it, i don't upscale things past the screen resolution myself ;D
Yeah been playing some ridge racer 2 on this and itās awesome
such a cool library as well
Going to try final fantasy tactics alivice switch now
Flatout 1 and 2 for ps2 should run pretty well on this. i generally prefer the pc versions though due to 2k textures and 1080p graphics
i swore off the flatout series for a while because you actually have to be good at 1v12 offroad racing
About 5-20fps in sudachi, doesnāt start in Eden
Was hopeful when it started at 40 in the menus š
Which emulator would people currently recommend for PlayStation 1?
If you already have your Retroarch hotkeys set up nice and you like using it, just use a retroarch core. If not, standalone Duckstation is nice
Oh yeah duckstation, forgot about that. Thanks
Ooooh boy, WinLator Mali is going to be interesting š year 2000 pc gaming here I come
Not sure! I donāt own a portal
Retroarch: psxrearmed: add in the upres and speed hack
Should look perfect on 4:3
tried some switch emulation on this with Eden just to see the state of things with the t820
conclusion: do not get this handheld to emulate switch
did you try some of the 1st-3rd gen switch games. those were easiest to run on chromebook
this guy got hello kitty island adventure running on that other t820 device
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCAM-Ed2Yac
some good old 4:3 half life 2 because why not
surprisingly playable for a stick bottom device
this screen is so good for anything 4:3 you throw at it
Mine finally came! Which means Anbernic will announce the new hotness in about 7 seconds
Rg608 - like a 557 but with 6ā oled and x86
This handheld rules
now rg476v, mext month rg477v and for Christmas we get the rg477h
477V shoulda been in September as both 405 and 406 were both released in September
Gimme dat 47XXH
rejected
MuOS with this screen would be swell I tell you hwhat
the screen is most likely too expensive for a budget device and Anbernic can't go and try to sell a $100 H700 handheld in the current state of the market
given how the rg476h has been (so far) a flop for them, I'm not sure if they'll be in the mood for more iterations
which is funny given how it's pretty much one of their best devices
absolutely, it's top Anbernic no question
but the choice of chip unfortunately gave it a bad rep
the chromebook i used before i got a cube had this inside, which is similar to the t820.
https://www.notebookcheck.net/MediaTek-Kompanio-520-Processor-Benchmarks-and-Specs.785566.0.html
it would be neat to see this used in a budget 476h.
I mean if they did a 477h people would have complained about the price, certainly the t820 ain't an ideal choice and this is too expensive in the current market, but it's a really good device and at 20-30bucks less than the EB it would also be good value, at the end of the day the t820 handles most GCN and a lot of PS2 fine if you know how
Anyone had silksong (pc) running on this with winlator?
oh yeah the price tag with the d8300 people would have bitched about too š
it could have been worse. they could have used a mediatek 1300t and cost 400usd
Stubbs did, iirc it hovered around 40 to 60, playable ish
that's playable. some people force the engine to 30fps
I havenāt managed to get it to run in winlator cmod 13
Itās absolutely mind boggling that this wasnāt the direct 405m successor.
They really thought people wanted a wider RG cube and released the atrocity that was the 406H
try gamehub, if you can stomach the spyware
it runs there
Yeah I was trying to avoid game hub as long as I can
Maybe try the Switch version? It might be lightweight enough for the 476H to handle
oi i love the 406h š this should have been the successor though lol
Okay maybe atrocity was exaggerated
There's a native android port
Thereās 3 dunno whatās what with them right now š¤£
Chinese port has touch controls and better performance
Freddy's port is supposed to be a little more stable, but that might change in favour of the chinese port?
And GLEports.....exists?
calling the 406h an atrocity is a bit much. Last I checked this was a hobby, not literal torture
maybe people expect too much from these devices?
I mean, it's pretty decent for stick-centric games, but yeah the d-pad is unusable
Yeah I need to find the Freddy port
Why doesn't it have a snapdragon and 10 hour battery life for $75 /s
Yikes. I plugged my 476h in to charge and it auto turned on running BFI. It was like that all night, charging and running a snes game. The image retention this caused is pretty nuts, and hasnāt gone away over the past 12 hours
Just a heads up to turn it off again when plugging it in!
It caused burn in on your screen?
Image retention yes
I am going to try using Gammas stuck pixel gba game https://github.com/TheGammaSqueeze/rgxx_boot_package_mods/tree/rg35xxsp
Wild, hopefully you get it fixed.
Interesting mine has not turned on while charging at all
It looks like itās an android feature? It shows an animation of it getting plugged in
But doing so will wake the device
I see the animation and it will show itās charging then the display shuts off again after a couple seconds
What if itās running a game?
Iām learning more about it while praying the damage can be undone https://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?t=7539
nobody freak out. oleds do burn in. just be smart
tell us what its like tomorrow
Too late, I am already making a reddit post complaining about the screen quality.
Well if I turn it off itās not running a game.
Mine does not do this sorry
yeah normal BFI will cause retention on these screens, I've fixed this in GammaOS for global BFI, but using RA's BFI without safe subframe-bfi shader will cause this
it can be undone, but you'll need to leave that GBA pixel fixer rom running for some time, in full screen
Ahh I was actually using sub frame bfi
Iāll give it a go and leave it running for a long while. The image retention is pretty hardcore
Iām also weirdly more concerned about the flickering in 60hz mode. That doesnāt seem normal
that can happen, it'll disappear once you run at 120hz with the GBA rom, turn audio sync and vsync off in retroarch while you run the rom in full screen
it'll run at max refresh rate
Does screen brightness matter at all? I assume full brightness
nah can be mid brightness
With both syncs off, the āgameā runs at 600+ fps which causes inconsistent timing of how the colors appear - should it be running at 120?
Sorry I mean if you put it to sleep with a game running. If you plug it in after that, I am pretty sure the game will then keep the device and screen awake
Iām going to test it out when I get home. I typically always turn off my devices if Iām done with them though. Not sure why just a habit.
Probably smart!
The boot up time is pretty quick too
oh maybe set vsync to 1
Ya that makes sense to keep it at 120
Appreciate your help mate. Iāll leave this running for the day and see how we go
FWIW I did a lot of work in GammaOS to switch the polarity of the BFI frames every 30 seconds or so, that keeps things mostly safe and not annoying for the end user
Thatās really exciting. I was finding burn in quite common when just playing normally with sub frame bfi (like a PokĆ©mon battle, the health bars etc)
Similar to what was suggested here? https://forums.libretro.com/t/setting-for-bfi-to-purposefully-drop-a-frame-to-avoid-image-retention/44243
GammaBFI polarity switching, just for demo purposes I have this to every 1 second, but will be closer to 30 seconds or so. The switch isn't distracting
Tried it and if you have the device in sleep plugging it into the charger immediatly pulls it out of sleep like you said. It happened so fast i'm surprised you didn't see it happen before walking away.
I had the screen covered with a micro fiber. It was a comedy of errors haha
oh no
well you live and you learn
Indeed š
Sorry if Iām out of the loop, but is Gamma for this device public yet?
No not yet
Really loving mine so far
also I was thinking in regards to high end CRT shaders, I guess I could always just screen mirror this through one of my converters into my actual trinitron
avoid the shader hassle
After about 8 hours it has reduced the clarity of the retained image and has shifted the colours slightly to a greener hue⦠so itās doing something good. Iām going to try some static tv noise for a few hours before swapping back to yours overnight.
60hz still flickers heaps
How dare you
Mine is being delivered in a few hours.
Hereās a game to try on this, Dreamcast wipeout port! 200fps+ looks and plays great
is that with redream?
Mine came in. I like it so much I am ordering my brother the grey one.
My sd card slot is flush btw
I was using flycast, but I think the same happens on real hardware
how are you unlocking the frame rate to run above 60? I thought the DC wasn't capable of that
I dont know š
I think itās just unlocked in the game, put fps counter and it goes from anywhere between 130-500. Donāt know if thereās a way to cap it maybe in an emulator
Says 60 on there so donāt know what the fps counter is reporting unless thatās because Iām emulating it instead of real hardware⦠š¤·
