It fits the bill of a better mid level device for my needs. I have a Odin 2 portal that can play the higher level stuff. Sure the mini is oled, but the screen is smaller, can’t use BFI, and overlay burn in scare is a real thing.

Yeah, 4:3 is way better for PS1 and under. PS2/GC doesn't really matter, because the widescreen hacks work really good and you also have a lot of games, which support widescreen anyway. 4:3 works just as good.

I am looking for horizontal around 150. Most of games I want to play is GB till PS1 + DS + 3DS. I owned Odin 2 before but sold it because it's quite big and I like D-pad device. 3.5 or 4 inch is quite small for me to read text.
Should I choose RG476H or Retroid Pocket 4 pro, they are in similar price.

I love my Retroid Pocket 4 Pro, but for everything up to PS1 I'd definitely go with the RG476H, because the rubber membrane dpad is easily one of the best out there and fits those retro systems better, as they also have a rubber membrane dpad in the original hardware. It feels way more retro than a tactile dpad. Therefore I use my RP4Pro for stick games only.

Yeah, I checked, and 4:3 content on the Retroid Pocket 4 is a bit smaller than 4 inch 4:3 display. So I guess, the RG476H is a better choice. It’s also pretty impressive that the RG476H has comparible width as the Trimui Smart Pro.

Yeah, definitely! I forgot to mention. The 4:3 aspect ratio is definitely better for everything up to PS1 and the display itself also is way better in terms of quality. On my RP4Pro the very right side of the screen is a bit darker. I'm not the only one with that issue.

If you're only playing 4:3 then yeah. If you don't want to toggle screens on DS or 3ds then maybe 16:9 to have both is better? All of these handhelds have some compromise or not perfect in some area. It's a lot of personal preference when deciding these things. There's tons of videos about both devices. Id watch some of you haven't to get a good idea of them both.

I've tried to take Metacritic TOP 50 games for DC, GC and PS2, guessing T820 performance issues (at 1x) and controls issues with the RG477M. It appears that way more games suffer a lot from the RG477M's controls than from the RG476H's perfomance. Different games obviously so it highly depends on your preferences, but quantititatively, I beleive that RG476H wins hands down.

But... can't they make a RG476H with a D8300 inside ?

Don't really care about adapting. When I play retro games (i.e. the majority of games I play on weaker devices like this 476), I expect that device to have d-pad on top. If I wanted to play games that would suit stick on top, I'd get a different device with a stick on top.

To me it is very simple. I basically agree with what you write here. If I wanna play stick centric games and systems, such as PS2, GC and stuff, then I just grab my AYN Odin 2 Mini. Its dpad is tactile, so I don't really like it, therefore don't really wanna use it for dpad centric games, anyway. I love it for PS2 and such, for that the Odin 2 Mini is great!

Disagree with this. Because with a stick you dont need precise inputs. I can even use the middle of my thumb to move a Character. Its only bad when you need dual sticks for shooters but most popular PS2 and GC games use left stick and face buttons. Right stick is only used for occasional camera movement. Shooters became popular from PS3 and 360 generation

For a device aimed at emulating up to PS2 and GC on a 4:3 screen D Pad makes sense

For devices aiming for Switch, Winlator, PS3, Wii U, gamestreaming and has a 16:9 screen then stick on top makes sense. For me personally I dont even bother with Android devices for that use case and just use my ROG Ally or Switch

For me, the density and weight of the 477M made it impossible to play for more that 20 min. Too hard on my pinkies. I ordered 2 476H, a purple and a DMG. I'm going to EDC this device and play DC and older on it. I never play the GC and newer stuff when I'm out and about so this is a great device, for me. If you're trying to have 1 to rule them all, maybe not so much.

I had a 477m and ended up not liking that it was metal. too heavy in the pocket for no reason also wished it had stacked triggers and the analogue stick was up top. I liked the power but the physical design seemed to be best for PS1 and down. Its not the 476H that is mis-designed its the 477M.

do you have an odin 2 mini? What anbernic needs to do is 406H with 476 screen and the Dimensity chip. 406H would be better for gamecube because stick is up top. Thats probably whats coming next. The next best thing that currently exists is an Odin 2 mini and maybe soon the Thor.

Since 4:3 is mostly to emulate CRTs and old LCDs, Oled is not the way to go. Dark areas should be too dark on Oled.
On Amiga, a few games I have to increase the LCD gamma because the games are too dark, imagine Oled.

Yeah unfortunately think I’m going to stick with the RPmini V2. Neither screen is 100% ideal and I found the 476H ergonomics + button tension of triggers and dpad not great. While the screen is much larger, I prefer the better panel over the size.

The abxy buttons are much better on the 476H, but everything else I preferred the mini on. And that 865 playing GameCube without any issues is a sweet deal as well.
