understatement of the century
This controller feels so freaking good to me. I just wish the 2.4ghz version was recognized nicely by steam deck.
Mine should be in the UK hopefully shortly then
Like 86 or so
Chinese ones, not including OEM devices
keep us updated on any import charges š
i wonder how this handles left4dead in winlator frost
@burnt comet my 477m caught the flight
It's time š„ https://youtu.be/0MAXGUi56Aw
š In this video, we make a return to Nintendo Switch emulation using the latest version of the Eden emulator as well as exploring the capabilities of the Mediatek Dimensity 8300 and the new Anbernic RG477M (and RG557). The results are better than expected with the combination of Eden and the Dimensity 8300. We will explore more than 30 games ...
it'll go back on sale soon enough i imagine
Holy shmmmmmokes the performance of this guy is pretty incredible honestly. Even more hyped for mine to land.
wow, not planning to emulate Switch on this but I didn't expect it to perform that well
I will absolutely be adding switch stuff to my library now too holy cow.
Sat up last night and got about 50-60 really good back ups of games I legally own. And now I gotta go through my switch stuff ughhhh lol š
well I guess the Switch 1 chip is 10 years old it should make sense š
Mine not yet, but you also have NL number?
yeah
hoping for the best, NL may only fuck over the brits after all
a lot of stuff I get from China goes through there
I just love seeing Switch games perform better than ever, it's awesome
on a device smaller than Switch Lite
Hyrule warriors was the biggest surprise !
the aspect ratio police has been dutifully notified and it's on its way
I mean honestly it looks really nice even weird aspect ratio im here for it
The good thing is that if you're not a stretching heathen, the 16:9 image size on the 477M screen is pretty decent. š
Finally got my tracking updated for mine. It arrived somewhere in the middle off he states and not the west coastšthatās probably gonna take another week until it arrives.
thats good news not sad news at least its not over seas anymore
I wonder how Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Smash Ultimate runs on it. Seems the WiiU version of MK8 runs at least decent.
Or lost in the clouds lol
Havenāt had a chance to watch yet but how was fan noise when playing Switch games ? Do you need max fans ?
We don't have a choice since I did all testing with high cpu mode. The fans are just loud in that setting, really need custom curves.
Figured as much and that might be the most annoying thing about this handheld
If you use the updated version of MK8, it should be good. I'd use Citron or something else for it. I don't think Eden can run the latest MK8 update because of the firmware required for it.
It's so simple too, we just need the same option applied from when the high mode is off. They literally have the custom fan curves there. š
Hopefully they work on a update that fixes that at some point
If this was in 4:3 I'd be drooling https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JegNmg4vBI
Not only is the KONKR Pocket FIT designed to be accessible to all, but it also features flagship-level specs that break pricing barriers. Powered by the third-generation SnapdragonĀ® G3x gaming platform, it delivers up to 20W peak performance. Itās the first Android handheld to debut a 6" 1080P 144Hz high refresh rate display, and features the...
Also probably twice the price

It's landed!
woah, mine is teleporting now
hope the NL customs are lazy on a Saturday and wave mine through
praying for you buddy
Let us know if you got hit with customs charge
I guess Burnout Paradise switch version and NES remix should run pretty well too.
Burnout Paradise had issues at least with Eden, I need to test it in the other forks. It's always one of the first games I test but I wanted to specifically focus in on Eden for this video.
Sure thats the UK? Transit country can mean landed with the delivery company who does final stretch.
I had that with Y700 when it landed in NL
All waiting patiently to see how much @untold glen gets stung for
Hopefully not š¤
But ive held off buying one of these till I can figure out a way to avoid tax
Fine at normal price. But odin/retroid prices if tax
Pretty sure it landed in the Netherlands as that is the usual transit country for China stuff ending up in Europe
Yeah thats my thought. As it would normally say destination country
Or something along those lines
also it's about 230⬠if it gets taxed for me, which honestly is okay... but I don't want to pay any more money to my government either
Then the US equivalent is wherever in the middle of the country mine landed instate of the west coast.
no updates on mine in 50 hours, last update was that it was in the region.
Took over 2 days too for me to get an update.
The hand off might've changed the tracking number.. might be one of those no further update situations where it just shows up at the door in a few days
Honestly Iād really like to see a detailed set up guide for how you got this all running so nicely on here.
This is my first android and first emulation device so maybe Iām just behind the curve already
My first android one too. Iām spoiled by SteamDeck where emulation setup is even easier than on PC and all free.
Oh man itās a breeze on the pc honestly with retro bat. Just did my rog ally, and pc and then undid my rog ally lol š
Since I have this guy coming. And itās much easier to just test games right on the pc before I load em on the card
I just need to find a way to sync. Between Anbernic is easy with syncthing but has issues if you include SteamDeck. For some reason i canāt find the RA save and state folders there.
Russ has guides up on his site for both Android and Syncthing for Android setup that he keeps updated.
https://retrogamecorps.com/2022/03/13/android-emulation-starter-guide/
Yeah like if your playing psp on this thing, it's basically the same size but with black bars
So it's cinematic in a way
Looks like Balatro supports 4:3 aspect ratio and now Iām looking what other card based games fit like that. This would be the perfect device for that genre since I donāt really play games on my phone.
Slay the Spire support it to but couldnāt find anything for Monster Train.
havent played it but seems like a nice game to try on here.
mines finally updated after 55 hours now in Newark NJ
On the move again!
This means it hasnāt gone through customs yet?
Mine was in the air last night!!!! Thank goodness hopefully only like another week yet lol š Iām so impatient
mine is in the Netherlands, come on, just give it to me and don't you dare to vat it
Not revive a dead ass thread or topic. But are we positive it only supports mirroring??? I was 99% sure the release video showed proper dual screenā¦.
I finally tried some PS2 and GC on my RP Classic and you know what I now need a Android device that plays PS2 that fits in my pocket. It doesnt have to be super pocketable just enough to carry around the house in my pocket. I wont be shopping with it etc. RP classic is quite chunky but still satisfied with the pocketability aspect
So now it comes down to 477M Vs Flip 2 (Tranparent Blue)
Im leaning towards the 477M but wondering can it play PS2 at 2x without the fan turned on as I heard its noisy
Hmm wonder if Retroids screen works witb this
I believe it can play ps2 at up to almost 4x if Iām not mistaken. I believe the fan needs to be on.
I also think the fan will be fixed in an ota/firmware update thru anbernic.
Personally after watching a few videos in this group itās really crazy how much performance is bleeding out of the 477m
I would also assume itās safe to say it would. Whatās holding me back is 60hz. I know asking for oled and 120hz is pretty tough right now since most of the panels got eaten up by the portal lol š
from what Iāve gathered it will be a plastic bracket that wraps around the device and holds the screen obviously. And then it just hooks in via usbc to usbc. The only thing thatāll be slightly odd unless the cable is fully adjustable is that fact that the port is slightly offset on the 477m
At the very least, the games where youād play dual screen on wouldnāt have access to BFI anyways, so youād want to get it for mainly those and for widescreen games where the standalone emulators also donāt support bfi.
Very true point! I donāt even really want 120 for the bfi aspect. I guess Iām a numbers junkie and knowing that the bottom is doing 120hz even if not needed I feel like stacked might look just not very good. Or apparent itās different rates is my concern
Latest update
oooh
Post NL
I have everything crossed for you
Royal mail should email you once when they receive if import charges are likely. Then you will get a card in your post box and will be held by your local depot till paid. But still a chance it could slip through if they undervalued it on package
ordered mine first day it was available through aliexpress. just got my delivery this morning in the eastern us. this one really feels like the perfect size. gonna send the day trying to get it set up
Ordered mine the minute preorders went up and it got stuck going from China to Hong Kong from Wednesday. It just now departed Hong Kong
Ayo
Looks really nice. Can't wait to order one for myself soon.
Leaving from departure country/region
Is it leaving or has it left?
Because 5 hours later: ā The item is ready for shipment ā
My misc stuff from Ali arrived, itās tracking starts with a letter C which is a different currier from what the 477 got
You should have tried Uzuy, Sumi, and Nyushu these emulators have Mali GPU support.
Just got mine. Cat approves
What sticks?
Ordered from anbernic or ali?
Etsy stick to replace the stock ones
Ali, ordered on the 3rd
I just put games on the sd card on PC and for the rest use WiFi on the device.
delivered & immediately torn down, measured the buttons with my calipers, 7.9mm wide & 5.6mm tall, same diameter as the cube/556 buttons but shorter (6.8mm tall for cube/556)
looks like they're keyed differently too
Is there a way to disable the rg launcher?
For interested parties, just published the RH written first impressions: https://retrohandhelds.gg/anbernic-rg477m-first-impressions/
Hi, itās me. Iām interested party.
I did with the 557. Theyāre not improvements over what I tested with Sudachi, Citron, and now Eden. š
Anbernic's RG 477m is here, and it packs a punch, albeit with a few sacrifices. Let's take a look and find out if it's worth your hard earned cash!

Tease. What didn't you like about it (I'll watch the video later anyway)?
Fan Noise (Heat sorta related), clicky AF shoulder Buttons, and price.
Really hope somebody tries a shoulder button mod. Not sure the logic behind making the face buttons quiet but shoulder as loud as possible.
I think the Steam Deck didnāt have fan curve adjustments at first either.
Itās crazy how many handhelds have that problem
I wonder if the stacked shoulder mod from the RG405m will return
its cheap
I modded the face buttons on my 35xxsp to make them quieter. Didnāt work on the shoulder buttons but still an improvement.
doing a proper soft shoulder button basically needs a second perpendicular pcb
I've never really minded the sound of face/shoulder buttons
Clicky buttons are an indecisive topic to discuss with some folks as some either don't mind it, prefer it, or don't like it.
Also mushy buttons.
Using the same thumbnail guy as eta prime
also probably from using clicky buttons on my mech keyboard for many years too lol
I'd prefer clicky buttons to mushy ones though
Especially with a cotton candy background instead of a black licorice background.
One's more tasty than the other, heh.
Unless you prefer black licorice over cotton candy.
I'm curious to see how well the RG477m works with Wii games - I can finally get to playing super mario galaxy 1 / 2 with the controller mods
I never really thought about the feeling and sound of buttons until I watched reviewers point these things out and now wish I was still ignorant lol
same with input lags unless it a rhythm game
Okay
Same, the stuff I ordered alongside it arrived. The 477 is somewhere in the city.
The fan noise might be an acoustics problem. Metal can make a reverberating sound when it vibrates. I'm just guessing.
Thatās what it seems like to me. And Iām thinking maybe a thermal transfer pad on the back shell. Possibly to help mitigate vibration. Maybe even right smack in the middle of that fan.
In that one video, the dude does a tear down to look into the fan noise. And removes the dust screen. With the back off itās very apparent itās an accoustics issue. At least in my opinion.
In that one video that dude tears the screen off itās very apparent itās an accoustics issue to me at least
???
In that one video that dude tears the screen off itās very apparent itās an accoustics issue to me at least
Dude tears.
Ok got it lol š my bad it didnāt send the first time
In that one video that dude tears the screen off itās very apparent itās an accoustics issue to me at least
Have you considered that in that one video that dude tears the screen off? itās very apparent itās an accoustics issue to me at least
Customs clearedš
Really curious where exactly it is because I donāt think itās really in the location shown here.
Has anyone managed to play light gun games with the touchscreen?
Thatās just a random lake, itās used as a default location for the US. Most couriers donāt expose map data and those maps are based on word recognition from tracking details.
further updates should give him more specific updates though
also In that one video that dude tears the screen off itās very apparent itās an accoustics issue to me at least
they might but the map still shouldnāt be trusted. All the data is in the text
Which video?
Once itās handed over to usps, you can get a more detailed tracking number. Use this website and put in your tracking and you can see the usps tracking when you scroll down
gotta say that bronze colorway looks really good in here
thought I was team silver but this is making me reconsider
still undecided about the metal and the weight though
I don't even mind that but for me is the crazy loud fan noise when on Max CPU , personally think a high end capable device should be able to to high end gaming without sounding like a hair dryer.
I was really looking forward to this fir that amazing screen but that killed it for me
Itās in my cityšshould arrive any day now. Does it get louder than a Switch fan?
How loud does your Switch fan get?
I only hear it when docked and max clock speed (mine is jailbroken). Sounds just like a small fan, not as loud as the PS4 Pro jet engine used to.
Ah you use your Switch in docked mode, I only use mine in Handheld mode and it's relatively quiet or silent except for some games.
it'll be there by tomorrow at the latest if its in your city. Only took 8 days first time using AliExpress not bad at all
407H be damned, this might be my endgame device right here! need more time with it haven't even turned it on yet but the ergo's feel great! I wasn't sure how they would be because I had the 35xxH and the inline shoulders on a device that small had my hands doing birdclaws but on here its perfectly comfortable
I want to finish work before I really Dig in to it
The metal has a very premium feel to it if it were plastic it would be lighter weight but I kinda like the heft it has its not super heavy and it will leave a nice impression if/when I hand it to someone
my only criticism from first impressions might be the loudness of the shoulder buttons lol the face buttons feel amazing but the shoulders have such a loud "click" to them
it's funny because retroids also typically have loud clicky shoulders and people rarely complain about those, but I guess in the case of retroids it's less of a concern when you have those clacky and loud face buttons there in the first place
of course, nobody would complain about fan noise if it got as "loud" as a switch which is practically inaudible even at full throttle
if you see someone complaining about fan noise, you can safely assume it's louder than a switch
Switch fan is fairly audible when at max
PS5 is the only console I never heard the fan even once and I owned it since launch.
Been messing around with solutions for the fan whine, think I found one i'm happy with.
Carefully used the blunt end of an x-acto to separate the plastic grille from the backplate, leaving the adhesive strip in place, then cut a square of fabric out of an unused pop filter for a mic & stuck it down. Something like nylon might be better but that's what I had on hand.
Was worried it would restrict airflow but temps seem to be pretty much unaffected from what I can tell, did an a/b stress test with PS3, didn't seem to make a difference.
Seems like there's a bit more air movement noise (kinda sounds like white noise) but the annoying high-pitch whine is reduced significantly, even compared to just removing the grille entirely. Fan is inaudible to me at lower rpm now, playing some PS2 at 2.5x in auto/auto & I'm not hearing it (or it's just matching the tone of my tinnitus
) . It's also reversible if you're careful not to damage the stock grille, so that's cool.
Interesting! I like this fix.
I still wonder if adding some thermal pads on the metal would help as well, giving it less to reverberate off of.
you also tried to dampen the buttons while you were in there?
i'll give it a shot, was also going to swap out the little white rubber bits on the sticks for black
rubber bits on the sticks? you mean the plastic for the LEDs?
I think they probably have a membrane between the ring and the stick itself
That is white or clear ish
These guys sit on top of the stick, little rubber bits
And heās swapping to black.
just cosmetic
gonna see about putting one of anbernic's old stuffer membranes in for the dpad too, this one is too mushy for me
your swapping in black ones? Nice. should match better
Could you take a pic of the buttons if you get it broken down far enough? Iām curious about getting some nice aftermarket ones made
Might try this. Maybe add some foam to shoulder buttons too while Iām in there. Not sure if too much can be done though.
same & yah there's not much room, dunno if my foam tape will fit without interfering
I wonder if they are mechanical in the sense like a keyboard. And just need a new o ring installed some how to dampen them
Obviously much smaller than a keyboard button. But. The idea that it could be an o ring needed
Shoulder buttons I imagine are micro switch so if the click comes from inside that self contained assembly may not be easy to do anything.
But Iāll take a look when I get the chance.
If either of you get it apart enough to get decent pictures of the buttons please do. I think some contrasting brass or gold metallic buttons would just look sharp on the bronze unit
8gb seems outta stock everywhere?
I mean every reviewer on the planet said that was the better unit to get so Iām not suprised
I went the buy once cry once route. I needed 4:3 specifically. As I have 16:9. and figured if I was investing in one more device I might as well go all out, so I did 12 gb 256
This is my only retro do dad so I figured I might as well go big.
Curious has anyone put trinket os on it yet? I have it on my card ready to rock when mine arrives. But was just interested to see if anyone threw it on theirs
Imho the 12gb only seems to be worth it if you're trying to do pretty heavy Winlator stuff or really intensive Android games. Maybe future proofing yourself a bit if you're hopeful for things like Xbox emulation on Android (hopefully) down the road
Swapped out the stick dust covers, both membranes for stiffer ones (they're exactly the same dimensions as their classic ones) & my modded sticks from my rp mini
forgot to try to dampen the shoulders, but with the way they're setup i'm not confident much can be done, i'll give it a try next time i open it up
Also found a neoprene sleeve that fits it perfectly, ordered a few sizes trying to find one that fit the rp mini a while back, glad it wasn't a waste of $2 lol
I have this old leather pouch I bought awhile back that fits it perfectly, setting up ES-DE
Maybe shouldāve gotten a sleeve too for between plays, I just ordered with the bag since it was basically free with the coupons
all this is, is a projected estimate of where your package will land after catapulting it across the ocean... afterward a doordash level shipper will get a geoloc and pick it up to eventually deliver it to the location hopefully properly labeled on the box
Isnāt there a prebuilt PS2 emulator you can just directly download on an android without PC?
Nice video.. that thing needs some sticks.. send me a PM with your address and I will make it so.

This is probably a dumb question but are you the hype stick guy!
Hell yea he is
Very nice thank you
Yessir š
Sent ya a dm
Awesome! ordered low profile ones and the arrive tomorrowš
hopefully same time as my 477šš»
My 477m is officially marked as stateside whooooopppp
How many in here so far have received their rg477m, not counting the 10 youtubers who got upfront.
2 or 3 people?
8 days on its way already
Mine should be coming in today or tomorrow
Mine has been handed off to a local carrier since yesterday.
mine isn't even in the hands of the last mile carrier, so tomorrow or the day after most likely
I got mine on Saturday
Was actually suprised how close to the size of my phone it is
Got a Pixel 7a with an otterbox case and it's basically 1:1 on footprint, just a couple mm thicker
Mine is still in the Netherlands. Last update was on Saturday
Nine times out of ten, it'll probably be hand off to a third party shipping company that will take a few days to eventually hand it off to your country's local post office.
@exotic wadi. heyoooo tech dweeb. This is a big ask I know. But I left a comment on your 477m video. Iām hoping that you pick that as the device to do your next android walkthrough on. Would love to see a start to finish setting it up on android and using trinket os. Iāve been a long time fan of yours and really think you nail the retro handheld reviews and content, thank you for adding a goofy and fun flair to it. Iāll forever call it gigglebytes and anberlic
Mine just hit my porch
How hard
Probably knocked a hole through the boards.
Sometimes you can look that tracking up on other services and on some pages they list the hand off USPS or whatever service new tracking number so you can track it on their pages.
Everytime I get a tracking update itās time stamped hours ago. The recent one was had a 6h difference.
Asian time vs europe time
No it should be the packageās local time. It was accurate for China when it was still there but now it would be still 5am, timestamps was past 7am
If youāre tracking through a third party app, they usually put rate limiting on them
some 1st party tracking does also
Can we dial back on the tracking posts that have been going on for days now ?
I get people are excited but itās not going to come any faster the more you post about it .

AYN went as far as creating entire other chats for shipping lol. I wasn't a huge fan.
But ... but ... my new handheld hasn't moved for the last twenty three and a half minutes. I HAVE TO FIND OUT IF SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED TO IT!
Got my stixšthe little GB keychain is so cute!
doggo approved
you will see our tracking and you will enjoy it
btw anyone already found out which buttons may be a swap in? like if I can drop some rg40xxh ones in that would be great
death to anything remotely skittled
Hope you like the Stix ā¤ļø
i measured them with calipers (7.9mm wide & 5.6mm tall), same diameter as the 556/cube buttons but shorter (& keyed differently so they wouldn't fit), maybe someone can measure others if they have calipers
yeah i love that colour tbh... probably gonna pull the trigger next year lol but i blew my handheld budget for the year on a switch 2 so ill be responsible
āResponsibleā and āBudgetā have no meaning here
If they donāt make a 406V/H replacement using this screen then Iāll probably end up getting one eventually, I just donāt like the fact that it gets annoyingly loud when pushing it to max CPU
assuming the plastic version if it happens is more ergonomic i might still prefer this but idk??? would have to have both in hand to see which feel i prefer i guess. i love my 353m tho but this is a lot bigger
but yeah i want something with this screen
Update, apparently in the settings you can change what launcher the rg button opens. I have it set up to open ES-De when pressed. Pretty neat!
Downside is that the default launcher gets reset to QuickStep
Is there a list of those ports?
Not that i know of for android, doom is handled by delta touch (playstore), apks for the source engine games can be found on the source 4 android discord server (byo game files from pc), ship of harkinian (ocarina of time) android is on github, dunno where the sm64 port is hosted these days, i had to compile it myself on-device years ago, was a pain. There's a bunch more ports like hollow knight, doom 3 & the unofficial sonic mania port, but I don't think they'd have 120hz support.
hl1 (xash3d) should, morrowind (openmw) & tomb raider (openlara) probably do too, wonder if am2r does š¤
No, this is people getting excited for their new toy. One week after everyone got it, the channel will be dead and empty again
I need to get a fun desk mat too
Definitely get that but do we really need multiple hourly updates ? Once people get them it will probably be very active
Thatās just the way this retro machine rolls lol
Mine is sitting in the nearby distribution center since this morning when it couldāve been delivered already-.-
My tradition every time I get new toy
Mine is now running a Mario 64 port on it. The fact that on my little 35xxsp it looks better and runs at 60fps unlike the official version on the Switch I paid for will never not be funny (and sad).
So far itās a real beauty, but just too heavy and awkward to hold. Back to the 405m for quick pocket ability I think. Screen is beautiful though. I just feel like my fingers have to stretch like twister on most things
Maybe Iāll take a look at the ace, or dare I say it, try to find a metal kt-r1
Trinket is ready.
Es ds ready.
All roms I wanna get into ready.
Media scraped on the computer and stored in folders ready.
Tech dweeb theme for trinket ready
Hype stix ordered
Device now in transit from sort facility.
Iāve been thinking if I can just use the scrapped ES media from my Steam Deck and use that. I changed/corrected some of the gameās metadata. Can that be carried cover too?
I mean it should? Itās saved in the proper media folders so I believe when you move the roms it will move the media as well, this is my first retro device so Iām really just trying to be ahead of the ball I guess and not have to fiddle super much.
I should need a file explorer to extract the apks that I need and then should be able to insert my sd and get the file structure set. Remove it and drag the files from my pc folder to my sd card. I think. š.
And have games+media all good and ready to rock.
Once thatās set up. I can fetch and install the standalone emulators id like to use and then from there assign those in es de.
I just move everything to an arbitrary folder now and then move them to the right folders once they are created. Then I only have to deal with transfer loading once.
Any uk people received theirs? Any tax??
Yes, i was afraid of that
Is there a black metal version or is this the bronze?
Itās the poo bronze
Haha it really is
Hefty poop is healthy poop, Iāll name mine Mr. Hanky
this is why I haven't pulled the trigger yet
I still want it.
But that price is def keeping me apprehensive.
@short quest gonna give it some more time, someone in here mentioned you can make the frontend button ES and that has proven to be awesome, really feels like a dedicated device now. it feels really premium, the d pad and buttons are so so so quiet, and then the triggers are goofy loud. It does fit in my skinny jeans pocket haha, though it obviously creates a silly bulge, for ref the flip 2 does not fit, too thick.
CRT beam with CRT royale combo makes everything look dreamy like i'm a kid again, which I do appreciate.
Maybe my weak hands will get stronger, I just find myself never being fully comfortable on any system
I've always been a sucker for the metal candybars Anbernic has put out
agree! 405m in black still being king for me, even with bottom d-pad
I had a 350m and a 351MP. I'm slacking on getting updated š
I have the trifecta, 350M, 405M and tomorrow, hopefully, the 477M !
Anyone have a Odin 2 to compare size ?
Remind me in 3.5-4 hours
If no one's done a comparison photo I will
i guess you can make a grip out of machined aluminium

yeah, i understand, but 3d printed plastic is like the worst feeling thing ever, versus metal which is the most premium material in this market
Rgc did a quick comparison
Odin 2: 419 grams
Rg477m: 355 grams
Maybe Iāll get off my arse and design a grip for this. Though tbh Iām not that bothered by the ergo as-is.
I think for a candybar it might be good, but I need to hold it. I think it's size really lends to it being more ergonomic.
I think if you're going stick-heavy games a grip that protrudes down a little might be helpful, I found it comfortable enough for d-pad centric games as is
Just ordered mine today for 219⬠on Aliexpress. This includes shipping. Can't wait, I love my RG351MP and still to this day it's my ANBERNIC device I play the most. I also love my RG353M, though. Just the same as the RG351MP, only a bit smaller, thinner and better triggers, as they're a bit raised in comparison to the shoulder buttons.
I love those traditional ANBERNIC handhelds, especially in metal shell.
PS: I got the chocolate bronze.
Already have an idea for how Iād shape it. Just need to find time to boot up fusion
Source: @latencyguy in anbernic discord
Did they replace the whole backplate with a printed one?
I wonder if that was for fan noise mitigation
I remember reading a lotta weird tests being thrown around
Thatās exactly what Iām looking for! Reminds me of my 3DSXL grip case, makes longer play sessions so much more comfortable.
Anbernic has a discord channel? I couldnāt find it before.
Yes , for better cooling
Using the case to turn the downward firing speakers into front is pretty awesome.
I did that with my 353m grip
My 477 deliver arrivedš„° Iāll unpack it later and put the low-profile sticks on.
weirdly the sticks ended up being fine to me. I was convinced they would bother me and stick out too much, haven't flew off coming out of my pocket yet. RP5 and RP mini caps literally jumped off the second they bumped into something
Same, sticks have not been an issue in the pocket
Taxfree?
Mine has arrived in the UK so now we wait to see
Ok guys, i am in the Netheralnds and my package arrived in NL. I had to pay 4 euro taxes and 8 euro Postnl costs. 12 euro in total.
Wel all know our rg477m is worth 20 euro.
Valued on box? 19% mwst?
if you subtract 5 and 1 from 8 you get 2
mine hasn't updated in the past 24hours so it may surprise teleport to my doorstep
itās just a hidden 2 but still there
I paid 184 plus 12 is 196
kinda hoped it would arrive today, but oh well
Not bad for a $220 ex shipping ex taxes
that's pretty decent, Anbernic not fucking customers totally over with tax
They are gonna be 260 - 300 euro locally in europe the next 3 months for base model
more like 280-320, sellers need to take their cut
still hoping mine avoids being taxed, worst thing that could happen is them actually checking the contents of the package, no way anyone believes that it's 20⬠
I once had that and then they said send us copy invoice. It was a $1,000 HD cam in 2005 so I asked the seller if he could make it $98. And then i paid 20 euro taxes
Instead of 200
When I paid on Ali it was stated that taxes were already included
How much did you pay?
They show the price inc taxes which was around 230 euro and then you paid 185
Just got mine in Texas. Super excited and this feels great in the hands so far.
Iām in the Us and paid $244 total, the 8gig model with the bag and some misc items to get more money off.
Ok
In europe it is different. Ali shows price inc taxes but because it is more than 150 euro they deduct taxes and then u have to pay taxes in europe
Departed local shipping partner usps is awaiting arrival of my bronze 12gb 256
In the USA
Paid 294.99
Still setting up obviously but initial impressions:
-Form factor feels PERFECT. Everything that I disliked on the 405m (and RP Mini for that matter) has been addressed.
-The metal feels great but not quite premium. Doesn't feel like an Apple product or anything.
-The LEDs are indeed just as hideous as they look.
-The sticks are too high but they also have much better travel than Switch ones.
-I don't think that the fan or shoulder buttons are as bad as people say.
I heard that some people do get a notice to pay for import taxes here but hasnāt happened to me yet.
Mine didnāt even seem like it went through a traditional customs inspection if Iām being honest
What feels different to 405 ? I think 405 feels great . Rp minintoo
In many ways I expected this to be the case with ergolnomics. Itās just a smaller switch lite
Which was incredibly comfy
My main complaint with the 405m was that it was just a smidge too small and that the dpad should've been on top. The RP Mini was comfortable but the screen was too small and the button noise on that was much, much worse than any noise here.
This, on the other hand, is perfect to hold and a perfect size.
I had to pay US import taxes on my review unit
. I know, I know, filthy reviewer getting free stuff no pity.
Depends on the courier though
Now we just need that back print file to go public and send that over to pcb way and go all @clever prairie on it. DIY our own machined aluminum back shells with that redesigned air intake
It was DHL and they always seem to charge. 4px/YT not so much
Can say Iāve gotten nothing from yt yet indicating I need to do anything
Really hoping it arrives tomorrow
yeah because DHL teleporting depends on them submitting the tax stuff before the package arrives in the country
for something that comes up so often im kinda getting concerned people dont seem to be able to remember that fact
Yunexpress for me, no import charges.
I heard DHL are more likely to charge
I always get charged with DHL
Got Yun too and then they handed it off to GoFo
Time to see if they have 3D print shops in my area or find someone online to do that for me.
Yes, d pad should be top and yes mini is noisy but mini v2 is better when it comes to screen
I had the V1 but going off of my rp classic impressions that screen is phenomenal.
same
same sticks slid into the pocket fine. On the RG406H they'd pop right off and get lost š I put the low profile ones on anyway, but there only a millimeter lower
Ergos have not been a problem for me
I need to learn more modeling. It would unlock so much more Hype Stix potential.
I have tinkered a bit though š
yeah no import tax in NY. Yun to gofo
Very pleasant surprise that i didn't see mentioned in any of the reviews - mine came with a free glass screen protector!
and really easy to install
I saw it in vids beforehand, a very nice touch, glad I didn't have to cut out a film screen protector
Copper Armored Tank
Quite a few of the Anbernic devices come with a screen protector. I think the RG28XX is the only one I own that did not.
This is the first emulation handheld that I've owned that can handle Hot Shots Golf Fore
||in software rendering with some minor UI glitches||
These games are notoriously difficult to emulate on PS2, even with very powerful hardware
Try SplashDown Rides Gone Wild, that one always caused major slowdowns on the Steam Deck
Steambot Chronicles too
Seems my beloved UK WhatGeek will only be stocking the 12GB version
8gb so popular itās on back order?
Lots in stock at ali
Some reseller sites just aren't stocking it to begin with - 12GB only
my rg477m arrived just now! what amazing value at only ā¬27.92 on the customs forms
thats not too bad
mine left the transit country, once again, today
guess I will get it only be the end of the week
the rg477m feels like the first android handheld i've seen with adaptable brightness. like the odin 2 only had manual adjustment
How do you set that up? I had to keep reducing brightness at night. I spend way too much time browsing those damn live wallpaper because I never use that on my iPhone lol. Itās so fun.
My first Android so still trying to figure things out.
What was your total vat plus import costs? Or did it slip through?
probably about 5.50⬠vat +7.50⬠DHL's service... so 13⬠extra ain't too bad
I paid 167 in total (152 for the item + 15 for shipping). As it was labelled under the cost of requiring customs, I didn't pay any VAT/tax
I received it via Royal Mail in the UK
settings->display->adapative brightness
oh sweet even better, i thought it was 27 euros custom charges š
Nice! Wish I'd have ordered one now back when it was cheaper for 72 hours. I may bite next time there's an AliExpress sale...
it is anbernic so i imagine sales will be frequent
What I really want is a plastic version... They'll prob announce the RG477P the day after I finally order an M
Nice , in the EU everything is taxed. Beneath 150 euro, ali pays taxes, above 150 euro taxfree, you pay at Post NL
If it had the same ergonomic bumps as the 406H, but the screen of the 477M, that would be perfect for me. I appreciate some people want these things flat for pocketability though.
Just got mine. Love everything about it but that fan whine. It sounds like a dentist drill and just pierces my ears. Just awful.
What I am gonna do is just turn it off and when it fries, send it back to Anbernic, if they can send 30 $300 handhelds to youtubers for free for shilling they surely have a few spare ones for customers.
Yeah thats not too bad actually. Was expecting more š well done. Now to enjoy
as long as you don't burn your hands
Picking my unit up from post office now
Spent like all morning playing it
That would be the handheld Im waiting for , yes please
This is the main reason im holding off buying one even though I want to order badly
First Android is crazy
How is the fan noise?
I wouldnāt hold off because of the fan noise. I believe itās been mentioned anbernic is working on it via an ota
Sorry what was the total price you paid in £ including everything shipping, customs etc
That was the total. I didn't pay anything in customs
Not believing that until itās actually fixed with a update
Itās a gorgeous kit of hardware seriously premium. Looks gorgeous next to my rog ally and switch 2
Very hard to tell itās not a big name
Obviously itās not for table top gaming like a switch but I really feel the only thing missing is a kick stand
Give me a kick stand and top ports for usb c and headphones and honestly this is endgame as all get out.
The triggers are clicky but not bad. My rog ally face buttons are significantly louder than the click of the shoulders on the 477m
Is anybody else d pad incredibly floaty, and shifty?
It's definitely noticeable but for me it's not so bad
hmm mines moves a bit but i dont know if its the same
Welp havenāt even gotten it charged to 60% and Iāve already reached out for an rma answer ughhh frustrating
I can almost turn mineā¦
If that makes sense
I can pull it up and down and side to side lol
oof, yeah that doesn't look right
is the metal cutout wider? thats what stops it from turning
I have a lot more play on the left side it looks like
But I can literally push the d pad over lol
Down
Up
is the dpad still working?
I honestly havenāt even booted yet
I picked it, opened it like a kid. Got it all set up with screen protector and case and plugged it in
Thats all crazy price what was the store you used again and the code on alixpress?
Iām at 60% charge just admiring it lmao š¤£
And noticed that the d pad was weird feeling. I could feel the movement.
Like a responsible adult I had to cut the grass first before I could sit and stare at my toy
test it out fully i guess, might still be fine
Weāre at 69% š
Will keep everyone updated of course it feels like itās still functioning. From like pressing it. I can feel the membrane in place etc. just seems thereās a lot of extra room for the plastic to move.
Thereās no extra mushy points, or places the membrane is mis placed that I can feel either
Definitely one of the most noticeable out of my collection but not a deal breaker for me
Haak can use the 120hz display and its really nice on it
Dont even need the fan for that either
The Anbernic official store! I used code IFPF375F
First the fix, then the buy
oh no, Ali is saying that customs are inspecting my rg477m
I just made that for my 477m and @burnt comet told me some of you might be interested, so I'm gauging interest to see if it's worth opening an Etsy shop or something š
It's a grip that doubles as a stand, and also has 2 small openings to redirect the bottom firing speakers sound to the front.
Should be no big deal. I ordered from AliExpress, too! I'm also from Germany, so let's see what's gonna happen to my unit.
No worries, mine got through it too. Probably the thick metal shell is glowing in the X ray scan š
Btw a quick tip for the fan noise; removing the small filter glued to the inner side of the back plate reduces the high pitched noise by a lot.
But of course it won't filter dust as well without it.
Still noisy tho, no matter what
Yes, hapoened to me to, 6 hours laters digital invoice
Therr was a post on reddit where someone mentioned testing 120hz on Odin 2 Portal and ROG Ally then on RG477M there is seems to be more ghosting and blurry picture om RG477M in comparison to other 120hz devices. People asked what settings used etc for more information. Then the OP didnt go into detail but mentioned will do more testing and get back to us. Then I asked the OP for an update and the entire post got deleted by the OP I imagine
Frustrating as id like to know the answer and can anyone test this here
i saw that post last night it was about a frame skip issue he was having he posted a fix and someone else posted something that I think dismissed it to me as as a non issue because I dont remember and he deleted it
a loose dpad is a sign of a good dpad to me
The fan noise itself doesnāt bother me nearly as much as the high pitched one so I might have to remove the filter. Trying to find a cheap fabric I can replace it with instate unless people who used it without for a while have been fine. Itās pretty pocketable and the weight makes my wrist feel tired a bit more than with my phone, probably because Iām more used to holding devices at that weight class vertically than horizontally.
The dpad on my RG351MP and RG353M is loose, too! I love the dpads on them. I don't think it's neccessarily a bad thing.
Dpad on mine is pretty firm. The one on my DS Lite is MUCH looser.
I like the color but itās hard capturing it right indoors. I replaced my sticks with the low-profile hype stix. They do feel more slipper though because itās not rubber. Might add something like a grip tape.
Size comparison with the og sticks on the left
Brown is definitely better than silver
But I wish they just made a Black or even the dark purple they used to do
Wouldāve gone for black metal too
I have this feeling they will make more attractive colors later down the line,
Retroid pulled this with the Classic lol
Orange RGB light goes great with this color and makes it look super cozy. Had fun brow live wallpapers.
I know itās normal but every-time I fire up a new device I notice non-uniform whites right away. Here the bottom right is at its whitest, the rest has a tiny bit of a warmer tint.
Thanks for the comparison photo. Can you post the exact listing where you purchased?
I honestly hardly even notice the fan tbh
I guess I have an air conditioner running and am very used to my rog ally fans
But honestly set it to high performance and high fan expecting to be blasted with an ear piercing sound
Finishing a scrap but should be good to rock and roll now. Configured each emulator setting now too. Just need to load trinket onto it now. And then itāll basically be done I thinkā¦. lol š
That gamecube controller has drift about to trash it, and I'm gonna sell the switch 2 and waiting until late gen to buy another one as I've got enough to play as it is
I have a new switch 2 here unboxed with mario kart sealed.
Bought it because V1 will be hacked
hmmm
And they wont get cheaper next 3 years
wow, actually need to consider that
I know , it is $450
But once they get hacked it is worth yo money
Happy with 477m, @latent lark ?
Very much
Black flat?
I bought black convex but whichever you prefer they're both low profile
Yeah
With its little bag, I like it quite a bit
Honestly this little unit is really frigging awesome and Iām barely into its finished state.
For whatever reason it only loaded one of my ps2 game back ups so I had to stop set up and re plug back into the computer to get the rest of my like 30 backed up games over lol š other than that set up has been a breeze so far.
On the trinket side of things I cannnot get the app shortcuts to work or even load anything to be selectable as a shortcut so kinda lost on that end. Right now es de is all set though.
I opened an Etsy shop and I'll say I'm enjoying the HYPE lol
My sticks arrive tomorrow š
If not you are welcome to model stuff for us lol jk jk. I need to learn to do that stuff better.
FYI I think that one thing we talked about is gonna look super sharp actually. @short quest
I still need to make them. By this weekend hopefully.
If I was better at making stuff I would also attach elastic finger/hand sleeves to the back. I love the tight secure feeling. Thats how I use my max pro phone. I have large hands but it would still feel uncomfortable large and heavy without it.
I guess I could just user something like superglue for that.
I can safely turn the fan off for any 2D systems right?
I design handheld fingerless gloves with device straps lol
being silly
If the processor is more efficient would that mean longer battery life than the retroids with comparable settings?
Is there a way to see remaining battery time when paying something?
The processor may be more efficient, but the way the 477/557 use it might not be. Unless they've changed very recently, Anbernic runs the D8300 at speeds of either "too slow" or "full throttle" - which means that the battery life is only going to be so-so when you're doing stuff like PS2 emulation.
Guess using bfi on top will only add to the drain and 120hz in general.
120hz definitely, bfi probably not, crt-beam-simulator probably marginally, worth it tho
I noticed with the Steam Deck how more demanding shaders can double power drain on retro games. Definitely wonāt try mega bezels lol
Yah, I can't even be mad about the battery life tho, this is as close to endgame as I feel like I'm going to get, checks so many boxes & that screen is just

Gonna try applying screen protector, wish me luck, itās usually more miss than hit for meš
I did some testing, and the panel response time isn't bad, but not great either, just average for an IPS panel. Of course it has more ghosting than OLED panels but that's a given.
i got a single speck of dust under mine and had to tear it off. donāt be like me
lol your name is hilarious.. Wooks unite.
I hear you on the speck of dust.. RIP that protector
Indeed, but for me the main issue is battery draining super fast in sleep mode. I hope they fix that.
even with all apps closed? With my Odin it's a matter of apps being open in the background.
If I forget to close a switch emu and lock it.. RIP my battery
Hmm I haven't tested that. I'll check with everything closed to see if it makes a difference.
I didn't think it would be a thing but Jade or someone mentioned it in the AYN chats and I've paid attention since, realizing it does make a difference.
As expects, providing only one screen protector was a terrible idea, no protection it is then, my v1 Switch and 4 year old iPhones have been fine so far without it too
I wonder if something like this could fit in its bag with a short cable.
my 10k charger is too phat
I wished the fabric would just cover the whole screen, this looks a bit weird.
On my retroid it didn't make much difference, but you're right depending on how the sleep mode is handled it could make a difference
isn't that a bit too much protection? metal shell, plastic case then zip case. do you have a bag to put that in too?
Better too much than not enough. When you realize it wasn't enough it's generally too late š¤£
Itās when I want to bring it on the road so I have a cable and charger in one place instate of cramming everything into my pants.
Considering it's a 240+ dollar handheld.. it should be treated as such.. lol.. but I get it.. I throw around my 280V like it never could ever use a case ever.
š¬
the metal shell is just a moo point then
I think of it as a shine like a silver or gold watch that you'd want to sustain. I guess I treat these handhelds like they're gold since 6 years ago we had next to nothing of the sort.
I'm just Pun tho lol.. pets his Odin 2
I probably use it without the silicon case at home and put it in when I take it outside. Thereās at least some improvement in grip and fall absorption.
I can understand not wanting that rubber shell.
It feels a bit cheap and doesnāt fit the bronze look.
plastic always be more durable than metal
metal shell makes the screen crack easily on impact. I blame HTC for metal trend and apple for glass trend
Anbernic and fixing stuff? What planet are you from?
Gamma will fix it
anbernic is the rare one, they actually fixes stuff
Well no, the hierarchy is AYANEO fixes stuff shockingly often for software, then Retroid, and then Anbernic refuses to fix stuff unless theyāre already working on a new device with the same chipset (but even then they still keep it unfixed for the most part).
And then we get to Ayn just flat out not having updated the Odin 2 Mini in over a year at this point to add in a toggle for Local Dimming.
Metal phones were inevitable, I don't see the appeal in glass backs.
I love how hype stix included a convex low-profile stick as a sampler, I prefer itās better grip over the flat slippery ones I ordered so I only need to order one more instate of 2āŗļø
Reminder to all that the RG Cube and RG556 still donāt have official analog support for their sticks, you still need Gammaās fixes for those 2.
Okay random question hopefully someone knows the answer. I can launch aethersx and play any game. But when I try to launch some games from esde aether sx crashes out. How come
Idk maybe wrong bios file?
Hahaha fair point.
Maybe if you were to... order another different set, you might get another low convex as a bonus
.. and then it would be like two bonuses

Just be sure to let me know if you did becuase I can make it happen

My sticks should arrive Friday! USPS apparently had to fly them from MI over my state to KS to bring them back north. Will probably still beat my 477m though
If you have any issues let me know.. We've had some weird adventures... One person in NC got to have theirs go all the way to Guam and back.
No, I'm guessing they flew to KC and will get trucked up to NE. Downside to living in a state that has the highest percentage of farmland in the country. š
I have driven through and can confirm.
Thanks I will! Just need to set everything up and see how it plays for a whileš
Does anybody have any idea of what the hifi option in the audio settings does? To me it sounds like the sound has slightly less aggressive highs when disabled, but aside from EQ I wonder what it's supposed to be doing.
Are there any good places for 4:3 bezel? I wanna use them for handheld systems/game & watch
Thanks for this but the other user said Ally which has a 120hz LCD sceeen has less ghosting
Yes, as I said it's average. The Ally is probably better thanks to the overclock these gaming panels usually get (although I'd need to see the tests to confirm), but I doubt it's very noticeable. Retroid and Ayn devices with IPS screens or older Anbernic devices typically have way more ghosting and latency than that.
To get a better response and better ghosting, at this point the only way would be to switch to OLED. But Chinese OLEDs on the newer handheld are terrible with shaders because of the cost cutting lower pixel density sub pixels trick they use.
Interesting I guess to get the least input lag least ghosting would be to use a phone with a OLED 120hz screen and a controller attached. The only retro handheld that has this is a Odin 2 Portal but thats quite large
Yeah exactly, my Xperia phone works wonder for that but finding a great controller attachment is another rabbit hole š¤£
The portal is great but it has the same issue with shaders as I was mentioning, it's still a cheap chinese delta type OLED.
I find the Gamesir X2 Pro the most compact
Yeah, I have that one it's not bad, and I love the swappable buttons
Only problem is 4:3 content and huge black bars
This is why for retro handhelds I have stuck with RP Classic for up to PS1 emulation with runahead
for ergonomic I prefer the G8 (the USB type C one), which is the most comfortable and well made model
Then use Ally or phone for more modern emulation
indeed... just doesn't work well for 4:3 content. For widescreen dolphin games though it's pretty great š
yeah, x86 handhelds like the Ally and steam deck are the kings for modern stuff
What themes do you guys like for ES-DE and work with 4:3?
Im not being lazy, DNS is blocking the apps GitHub theme url so I will have to download and import manually to try out.
Tech dweebs theme is nice on 4:3
Minui menu is great with a few variants
Can't bring myself to care about black bars on an OLED. The whole reason they're bad on other displays is that they're NOT black ... They glow in the dark.
Does the black frame insertion really make it feel like a CRT?
It's more reducing motion blur
There are CRT shaders if you want it to look like a crt
the motion clarity with crt-beam-simulator on is wild, it's also much brighter than bfi & the strobe isn't really noticeable (makes bfi unusable for me personally), it does offer some fake crt stuff but i turn them off, if you want the crt look you can always add another shader on top
CRT-beam seems all around better than bfi since it doesnāt darken the picture as much so you donāt have to deal with super bright menus between gameplay because you had to bring the brightness back up.
my low profile concave hypestix came in today. like others have said, its only a 1mm difference, but that brings the sticks down to what i would say is the ācorrectā height for the 477m.
Is netflix supposed to with on this? Not working for me. Nor are any other streaming services like Disney or amazon prime. Hopefully a update is in the works..
Probably no widevine L1
Like 90% of the themes
Probably 100% tbh
Working with 4:3 I mean
It's just the standard res that theme.makers always go for
My sticks are awaiting pick up from my P.O. Box. Iāve carried the 477m all day in my shorts pocket with no issues outside at job site itās been awesome.
Jumping in and out of games Iāve been playing since 6:45am and am at 61% battery from 100%
Heaviest I was running was god of war it looked beautiful though honestly
This truly is an endgame device.
I hope Netflix etc gets sorted next.
not sure if thats possible on these rooted/unofficial/unlocked boot android builds (in general not sure about this one in particular)
would be cool if they could but I wouldnt hold out hopes for it
Interesting what prevents it? Iām curious?
I mean its DRM, anything that breaks 'trust' in device security will bump it down
Netflix just trying to make it hard for people to record shows
Idk that much about android or widevine in general so thats about as good as I can explain it
Interesting I really know very little about android nowdays which is a shame cause I used to be much better with it
Time to do some cookin
Somebody make a clip shield š«š«
make a plastic shell
I guess it's not as simple as replacing the metal shell with a carbon copy in plastic
but wouldn't it be nice
That's way more work that I'd want to do lol
plus moving screen panel, no thanks
Love it when a test fit works the first time
Needs a tiny bit more clearance but now I can start on the grip
Did everyone who ordered on day 1 get their 477M ?
First prototype (no cutouts/port access but will fix that later).
Looks like the first case on Etsy!
Still waiting mine...
It's on it's way from the netherlands
I'm from Portugal
I actually really like the way my big chocolate bar feels in my hands as is with its little plastic shell.
I stand by my opinion strongly, of do away with the indicator light, move the usb c to the top of the shell. And the 3.5mm and add a kick stand and this would literally be endgame on every front, for a 4:3 device. The bottom ports just suck for setting it nicely on display.
I found a potential work around for rooted devices and Netflix. Going to dig into it when Iām home.
wait gamma is on this????
He had something cooking already
Yeah from what i understand he already has an alpha build and is cooking a real release.
How does one acquire gamma
Iād like to try it out⦠but literally have no clue with this android stuff lol š as soon as I got it all set up on its base system go figure Iām ready to change it
Some people say the sticks are too tall. I found this interesting mini controller with an extendable stick...Basically you push it in to keep it compact, then press a back button to pop it up for play....Wonder if retro handheld makers could implement this in compact handhelds
I'll jump on it as soon as it's ready... Does he annouce it on the regular channel or only for patreons first?
Needs tweaks but first prototype
what's the name of the controller
I'm not sure. Last GammaOS install I did was on my RG505. So I'm behind on the cadence.
I need to get your package out..

Grip looks cool.
Acegamer Wireless Pocket Controller
that's an interesting concept, doubt handheld manufacturers will ever include it though because it increases build cost and points of failure
but then again, we slowly see trigger stops make their way to handhelds
They could but less pcb/battery stuff in the way on a controller
Handhelds tend to be pretty space constrained on the inside
true
I mean no shame for not but it is a really nice device. In a sea of plastic end game devices that are cracking left and right I feel a sense of security knowing I wonāt have any weird cracks forming
I also have more power than I know what to do with currently in terms of emulation this things a little beast
4x resolution on god of war with no stutters or slow ups was fantastic today
If I didnāt know it was retro couldāve fooled me honestly
oh i suddenly remembered
it was too loud
Honestly it is not
YouTubers are making that way more overblown in my opinion than it needs to be
Itās really not very loud
If youāre playing in a room set up for recording sure itāll be loud. But in any day to day test Iāve used it in since having it. No one has been like man thatās loud. It didnāt sleep my sleeping wife. I intentionally annoyingly fidget clicked the shoulders on a 2 hour car ride with others in the car and not one comment or remark or even question
I would need to be in a library or have everything else completely off and no air movement in the house to be bothered by it
Time to HYPE up my 477m š ahhh so glad work is over
Thank you @short quest you are a treat to work with! And these are honestly gorgeous! The hype box is sick! The tiny gameboy is impeccable
im too sensitive to it
odin1 was also known to be "not" that loud
but it was almost pitch screaming into my ear
to me
Interesting maybe Iām just not sensitive to that frequency!
but this is difference in opinion
I should look into the science of it! Honestly would be interesting if thatās one of the tones I donāt hear well. But to me personally itās quieter than my rog ally and laptop and many other daily use devices
I would assume itās got some sort of decent 3.5mm jack in it. I donāt want to say a dac but something along those lines of playing lossless files. I tested it with iems today and I thought the sound profile was gorgeous. Nothing too high or tinny nothing to low or bassy. Just a nice neutral sounding clean sound.
I would be interested to see a lossless audio file played on it and compare it I guess
whips out his FLACs
now I just need a 477M lol
Itās the tinnitus ring that really just bothers me and has me seriously consider to risk it and remove the filter altogether. Itās an annoying design flaw by restricting airflow too much.
None of my other devices have this issue.
the only thing that has taken me a bit of time to get used to was the start/select being on the bottom rather than the top when it comes to retroarch hotkeys
I couldnāt even get hot keys set up at all
So I gave up on that
I just exit the emulator and load a new one lol š it takes me back to esde anyway so not a big deal
I tried following video guides using older outdated hotkey mapping compared to whatās available right now.
I wonder if you can equalize the sound the be at least a bit better coming from the speakers. Having no lows sucks but they shouldnāt sound this bad as if it came out of a tincan
The way I still watch every new video review that pops up even though I already received it
Anbernic has returned with another mean metal emulation machine for infinite emulation power? Or is this going to be another quick Android cash grab?

Somebody mentioned the standby battery drain was bad and someone else suggested maybe they had background processes open. I havenāt used mine after fully charged and unplugged for at least 24h and it sits at 93%
So I absolutely had an emulator sneak its way into a weird suspended but running state at first (dk country n64). And my battery was tanking terribly. I could see it when I swiped down, under the navigation menu, it was just hanging out in the background.
Since this incident though I have not had any issues or similar experience as the other user had with standby drain.
For me even when there is no process in the background the battery still empty itself quite fast. The sleep mode doesn't seem to be a true deep sleep like with the Retroid devices.
When I learned this about my Odin 2 and verified it was an actual problem I tend to just close all apps when I am done.
I forget a lot though.
Yup just something Iāll be vigilant of going forward now
Kind of defeats the purpose of the sleep mode though if you have to close everything every time š¤£
I never shut my Odin 2 off fwiw
thing lasts like a week without an issue as long as there's nothing running
Yes I've been getting comments about the battery but I'm not seeing any issues
I found an interesting metric tracking in the settings, completely un related to battery and battery usage.
But my average ram used in the last 48 hours has been 3.0 gb.
Today (24hr) I averaged 2 gb of ram usage
Idk if this tracks accurately or how the metric is measured but rather interesting!
ram usage doesn't mean anything with android
Ah interesting, I figured it attributed to sort of the load out the system? Similar to that of a pc.
nope, nothing like PC
I mean opting for the 12 gb version and only averaging 1/4 of that used is wild
it will eat as much as you can feed it kind of thing
Interesting.
I know so little about android. I just stumbled into it and was like well this is kinda neat I guess haha š¤£
I figured with the way it breaks it down it was more of a detailed analysis of the load you were putting on it
my current phone only has 4gb ram, it's fine
Mine is terrible:(
I just noticed today that it drains in standby.
Is there gamma OS coming on this if so hopefully that would resolve standby issues
Odd so many are having standby issues
Anbernic just not doing a great job with the software in general.
IT IS HERE !!!
It arrived with 0% battery lol
šŖ«
Not a good sign for a 12 days old handheld
no tax?
They valued it at $18, so i had to pay 4 euro taxes plus 8 euro ādeclarations costs that go to postnlā total 12 euros
That makes a total of 196 euro, that is ok, the local sellers want 300 up
very nice
Top is with 552, 405 , 353
And the other photos are with 405 , rp mini , rp5
The color on the photo is inaccurate
It gets nice warm during charching. I dont need an electric heater in my bedroom this winter. Just charge this thing in my bed.
It is at 52% in 30 minutes, so from 0 to 100 in one hour charging time
If it's PD it should slow down a little before maxing
I'm assuming this is probably less comfy than the cube
Kinda wishing they'd just drop this screen into the cube ergos
My phone takes 47mins on this chipset with a similar sized battery, so that checks out
Well it is 83% after one hour, so it is doing some intelligent slow stuff in the second part of charching
That is better, a black cover
- Put tape on the back of the cover.
- Soray paint the inside and make sure the top and bottom and corners are sprayed too. About 3-4 layers at 30 cm
- dry for 30 mins
mine seems to arrive tomorrow, highway robbery is certain, the question is... how much will it be?
Thatās what I wanted to do too but never spray painted anything before. I just know to wear a mask and wear clothes I donāt mind getting stained.
It is really 5 minute preparation time and 30 secs spray
Nothing on the outside so it feels the same. The spray is on the inside
That does not feel nice. So only inside spray. Never on outside
the black cover looks cool
Thanks , it is what Anbernic should have done. I also did it with the plastic 405 white grip
oh hey, thanks for these pics! how does it feel compared to the 552? does it feel heavier/denser?
I love this aesthetic
552 was such a weird device
Heavier yes
It is same size but one kilo of feathers feels lighter than 1 kilo steel
Because the 552 is wider
Yes, but awesome when it comes to display and controls. The face buttons and dpad were the best back then and it still holds up very well.
indeed, I still have mine. still have the issue with battery draining even when turned off, that was annoying š
I thought so, that's disappointing
I still can't bring myself to sell mine, despite having an RP5
I even own two, because of this battery issue. Back then I thought to myself that if one battery is empty, I could still grab my second RG552 and keep on playing.
I still have mine, even though I have 52 other handhelds.
unassailable logic lol
but yeah the battery drain issue is really tragic
I sometimes wonder if it couldn't be modded somehow to "fix" this battery drain
clearly there's some component internally that is kept on even when the handheld is off
if we singled out what it is, it could perhaps be modded to stay off or outright physically disconnect it if it's not something important
Yeah, I was always looking for an answer here, but as far as I know there was never an answer to that.
Iām so confused I left my device on the night stand after it acheieved itās 100% charge and I am now several hours into the day and Iām still at 100%
It hasnāt been used but itās on and sitting there
Is it one of the first charges? Takes time for Android to calibrate the battery
^probably just a poorly done battery curve
I would be shocked if anbernic got it right the first time
Itās been charged a handful of times now
Battery curve in android is mostly dynamic, it's calibrating itself with each charge/discharge
If you want to calibrate it, charge it completely and let it discharge until it switches off a few times.
Shouldn't you specifically not let it drain completely on Android
completely as in to critical shutdown level which I assume they would set at not actually 0%
Unless you're ayaneo, and your devices deplete themselves too much and don't turn back on
realistically 5-10% of their set battery 'dead' voltage
It's fine if you only do it a few times for calibration purpose. Else android might have trouble knowing which level is 100% and which is 0%. That's why sometimes devices get stuck at 99~100% or 0~2% for a long time.
also a Battery/BMS issue no doubt.
A proper protected cell should also cut power from the battery to device to protect against over-discharge
Yeah, "proper"
You'd hope any of these +$200 devices would do a better job at system critical tasks but
at least with cheap stuff I dont have to reverse engineer molex connection batteries to replace them
although not sure if anbernic even bothers with fancier fast charge batteries.
I know retroid does and its a pain
Thinking about this with cube ergos just made me pick up another cube š
I should just pick up one of these and print cube-like grips for it
my 552 dpad was terrible. so easy to get false diagonals. ive had 4 anbernic devices now, and i really think its just luck of the draw whether or not the tolerances of the dpad, membranes, and pcb work well together
Kind of agree, but in general I'd say the ANBERNIC dpads are really good. Don't have any issues on most of my devices, except the RG40XXH, where both dpads on both of my devices are the worst ever!
So Iām at almost 3 hours of in and out gameplay of Mariomon. Have not closed the emu. And Iāve only lost 10%ā¦. Idk seems pretty adequate to me
On top of my ps2 testing yesterday.
prob seems fine then š
I think how sensitive you are to this depends on how big you are on fighters tbh
like fighters have never been my thing so it was never a big problem for me when a dpad has loose diagonals
accurate diagonals are better of course
U brands
Tech pouch in slate grey
Literally a perfect fit with room for lots of good extras
Anyone who owns this how is pocketability if in used to carrying a RP Classic
Penjamin and 477m are elite combos
Mainly carry around the house
I find it similar to a large phone
Surely a phone is more narrow
My S23 Ultra is slightly more narrow than my RP Classic
But taller
It fits nicely in my pocket, tiny bit wider than my iPhone pro max but also heavier so youāll notice it more.
Only reason I donāt like the penjammin is it doesnāt go low enough voltage wise. I run 2.8-3.0 almost exclusively š. But also the pivot is pretty next level there.
Flagshippin
if you own a 3ds xl it shouldn't be much different
I have a grip case on my 3DS and itās a similar weight with it
but heavier with the silicone case
my rg477m was a whooping 17,95⬠according to Anbernic
3,41⬠vat and 7,50⬠for the service of highway robbery later
now it would have been nice if Anbernic charged the damn thing
Lol, i paid 2% more mwst (21 here) and 8,00 service robbery. But great from Anb to do that.
Also mine wasnāt charged either, takes 2 hours to fully charge
50% in 30 minutes
Oh no, the horror š at least this has decently fast charging
@eager pelican how do you like the feel? A bit heavy right?
first impression is certainly that it's a solid device and has some weight to it, but I will refrain from judging it until I actually played a bit
still not half as bad as the rg351m
At least some of you guys are enjoying the rg477m... I'm still waiting for mine...š¢
That story reminds me when I bought my AyaNeo pocket Evo... DHL ASKED for more 120⬠plus Portuguese custom taxes... Dude.. From 500⬠went to almost 800ā¬... Love the console.. But Damm.
That's why you ask Aya to ship via DPD
Will make sure I'll do that next time
Never DHL. NEVER
Dhl basically means im gonna have to go pick up the package from them
Man. Still hoping they announce an RG477H at some point
do please update us
you have all the handhelds so you can compare it with everything
After getting my RG477M yesterday, my RG406H and CUBE went in the second string drawer.
just picked up another cube. think if and when the RG477H drops ill 3d print cube-like grips for it
This is exactly what im waiting for too
it's mid august. How many has anbernic released this year? are they on track for 12?
Besides the Slide I don't think they released anything else new , unless I'm wrong ( which I probably am )

Oh and the RG 557
I think they are still largely coasting on their XX line and don't feel any pressure to release new handhelds
Yeah, this year they've taken a step back.
35xx āproā
Yeah. I just don't need the metal. Or the cost/weight associated with it. Everything else can stay the same. Maybe replace the clicky shoulders with quieter ones
34xxSP, 35xxPro
557, SLIDE, 477m
so they are a bit behind
Isnāt the 477m an h device already lol š
I understand your asking for a plastic model
But I feel weād see this screen on a vertical before a plastic shell idk though
I feel like this screen In a dmg body give me one stick for my light heavy games that need it
haven't had the chance for hour long play sessions yet, but from fiddling a bit with it, I honestly don't mind the weight like at all, thing just feels nice in the hands and is easy to support
where it may be a bit annoying, is if you try playing laying on your back
also I really dig the size, it's not the most pocketable device naturally, but it's basically as tall as the rgb30, so perfection
This screen in an arc 2 please
I'm very pleased with my 477M, it's not perfect, but it is great to play in bed. I hope someone does "better buttons" and I'll mod the shoulders to be a bit less clicky when I install them.
doesn't it slip out when playing in bed due to the weight? that's basically the unanimous complaint that everyone echoes
Hey all, just received my 477m which is my first Android handheld, just wondering should I do a fresh install as its already come pre installed with emulators and some dodgy looking Chinese apps?
I uninstalled all of those
I'm using the silicon sleeve and it doesn't slip out with that. Plus the dpad and face buttons are very quite.
The only other device that I've used that works on need is the RP Mini, but it's buttons really bother my wife
Just got my 477M and can confirm the shoulders buttons have failed the wife test.
I honestly can't comprehend them making them so loud, they've made cheaper devices that don't have this issue
Like I said, when someone sells better shoulders similar to the 405M and 40xxH mods, I'm going to the premiere.
They will fix it with the plastic one
I don't mind the microswitches or the fact that they're inline. I'm probably one of the few people that actually wanted this unit to have inline shoulders to keep the profile slim.
I'd say this was a wish come true in my book.
did you try turning her off and on again
Tried that. Didn't work.
And with saint gamma cooking, this pretty much answered all my prayers.
The only downside I have with the 477M right now is likely not the unit itself, but android 14.
Cpu float doesn't play nice on it and the app freezes up when I fire up duckstation.
The fan is whiny for sure, but I have it turned off since I only play up to psx/n64 on this.
