#Miyoo Mini FLIP - A smaller Miyoo Flip
1 messages Ā· Page 7 of 1
you wont EVER see an ext listed for one system if there are other systems that use that extension
yeah .mdf is like ancient even for pcsxrearmed standards
Allium first checks the ext, then picks the emu, if not found, it falls back to using the emu designated for that folder
allium is just set up differently
i been meaning to clarify the wiki but.... i been busy with spruce and sprig
no worries, i appreciate the explanation
for my OCD, the fact that the L and R don't match is what bothers me lol
if they both suck i wouldn't care as much
it is pretty odd how it broke on mine, i wonder if i'm missing that consoles.toml
i seem to have all those bios files
my theory is that whoever is soldering them is left handed
š¤£
i guess this will be good to keep me narrowing down to just my pbp games lol
for now anyway
Chd should work
yea, im not sure why it doesn't, still haven't been able to get it to launch anything except my pbps now
Does anyone have this
if so how good is the heat when playing gba
and how much battery do you get
Oh nice koriki on there now
my handheld arrived in my country (preorder 2d batch)
white
I have asked Myioo about batch 2 and the issues reported here number of times. They have answered very positively.
L1 button
Yes, the second batch of the Mini Flip includes improvements to the L1 button structure, which provides a more consistent response and durability.
Noise with WiFi
Regarding the speaker noise when Wi-Fi is on, our team has also optimized the internal layout to reduce interference, and this issue has been significantly improved in the second batch as well.
Great news !
And about the AliExpress store, bad news.
Thank you for the update. I figured as much. I do want one but I DEFINITELY can wait
Just make the transparent blue and I'll buy 10 of them š
So batch 1 folks like myself are beta testers for Miyoo as per usual then
It weird be silly for Miyoo not to use beta testers if they keep signing up
Btw as far as the R & L shoulder buttons are concerned, they both feel horrible on my unit, although the R button was especially terrible, so I opened it up to take a look. I saw that the R button was rubbing up against something causing some marks in the plastic, and from what I could see this slot was too narrow, so I trimmed it a little and now it's on par with my L button. Still shit, but not borderline unusable like before.
Also all the shoulder buttons on my unit actuate much more precisely when they are pressed higher up on the button. Like the top 20% of the button is a 8/10, then the middle is a 4.5/10 and the bottom is a 2/10 in terms of being able to feel the button click.
Sounds like my current option is to order from GoGameGeek. Ehh.
Or I just should pull the trigger to 34XXSP. Decisions,decisions..
does anyone have a better link for the latest miyoo firmware update from their site? the download seems very unstable
thank you
I just dumped all my miyoo mini flip stuff there, so CFW, stock os card, firmware, etc.
Miyoo said second batch will address the shoulder button issues to me in the chat as well. We shall see.
My mini flip has a tiny bubble in teh bottom left of the screen, looks like an incorrectly applieds creen protector. Emailed them, they said yes, this was a screen protector applied by them and I should try to lift up the corner to see if the bubble goes away. Interesting, since I wouldn't have expected a factory screen protector on a clamshell unit.
Has to be my cutest purchase so far. Feel like only holding onto it like a novelty item than playing it, unlike the Miyoo Mini Plus which feels playable and sturdy.
MinUI is perfect for a handheld (feel like calling it a thumbheld) this size.
It's interesting, some devices feel so polished and modern, and others feel like a toy, which normally I'd think would be a bad thing, but somehow it contributes to the joy of a retro handheld, adding to the old school feel of it, at times.
Exactly. It's a good thing to hold and admire. But gaming for more than 5 minutes is not something I will do on this.
I think it's a perfect "I need to kill a few minutes waiting in line" device, even more so than the 35xx/34xx. Beyond that, there are better options
Still fun, though.
Shiny hunting on my lunch break
Crystal Legacy, it's a romhack of Crystal that adds a lot of QoL stuff but still feels like Crystal
ah gotcha
Also re-tools gym leader fights to be better, fixes bad level-up learnsets, buffs weaker Pokemon, all sorts of cool stuff
Nothing too radical tho
might have to look into that
It gets a big vouch from me, I don't think I can play vanilla Crystal anymore
have you tried polished crystal?
No but I've heard of it, that one and Crystal Clear have been on the to-do list
speaking of this again, im not too sure why but i was able to play some dragon quest vii for a while without any issues as a pbp so for now i guess i'll just leave it til there's an update
since im mostly playing gba when im not on ps1 and that's fine
for anyone interested in some more battery testing, been playing some more gbc/gba but in onion this time, ive gotten about 2.5h of combined gameplay to half a charge. so, onion seems to use more power than minui. use that info at your own discretion, these are just numbers i am finding through my time of using the device.
that's interesting. i'm an onion fan for sure but it looks like it might be worth making the jump
interesting
i havent specifically timed my allium battery but just off of assumptions it might be a middle point? i usually have 80%~ whenever i exit out
it seems like any linux device i've had, idling on your front end drains battery FAST compared to actually playing games
Kinda just depends what your priorities are. If all you wanna do is play some retro games for a small number of systems, MinUI is pretty hard to beat. It does its best to just get out your way
This is def the case with MinUI and spruce, which opt for a higher minimum CPU frequency in the menu to ensure it feels snappier
ahhhh that's interesting
good to know looking behind the curtain though
better to not have it on if you're undecided on what to do, i guess
i hear that. i like to tinker though, so having easy access to retroarch menus might take it out of the running. i think i'll stick with onion to start and try allium if i'm really wanting that extra hour or two of battery
Allium has retroarch too, and the settings option on the game menu takes you directly there, so it's a nice compromise in my admittedly limited testing so far. Wonder how its battery life will be
When testing sprig while I loved the feel, i did notice a bit more latency in the UI than the other options, wonder if I imagined that or if it's something that'll improve
Itās something weāve improved for the next build which is currently in progress. Thanks for the honest feedback
Oh, that's good to hear, I'll have to test it out again! Thanks for your work on it, has a lot of potential
I used to maintain a CFW for a PDA back in the early 2000's, kickstarted my embedded linux career, but haven't done much contribution on present day ones yet. Might have to do that if I can find the time/energy to do so.
Gets warm with basic NES.
I re-tested sprig just to get more data, my main concern with it was the input latency with the UI navigation. I can rapidly hit the down arrow while scrolling in settings and it only registers some of the presses, and when it does, there's noticeable latency before the movement. Not a lot, but enough to perceive. A rapid press of down 5 times registers 4 at times, for example. In case more details helps.
That's with 1.0.0, haven't tried building it yet.
Any consensus on overlays/filters on this device? Seems like jeltron has some, the Perfect_ beta ones that weren't finalized, ozboss posted some, and allanrps posted some rather more complex setups involving cropping/crushing to get to a higher integer scale. Will have to do some testing and comparison, but figured I'd check if there was any consensus on the options, or if i missed any.
Actually, suppose I should compare the included ones in the firmware options, shouldn't I? that would make more sense than trawling for them manually

All of these have overlays for the v4, which is the same screen as the mini flip. So they will work perfectly.
Thanks
you're welcome
Mine came today and it's exceeding expectations so far
Not so much in performance, just in general feel, coolness from the size and flip factor give it bonus points in a very real sense
You donāt need to build it, you can actually already OTA directly to our development branch by adjusting the Setting/CFW Settings/OTA Settings options
This is obviously going to be less stable long term than using the release but you can keep up with our progress basically in real time
Same experience. Glad it isnāt just me.
Someone pin this! I am about to try it myself.
Just be careful with the corner of the PCB, it's a little difficult to get to that bit of plastic at the correct angle.
i have a 9 hr save file for wild arms on my funkey
you can do it!
Brothers, I literally flipped how the little rubber grommets were oriented and now my shoulder button issues are gone.
sometimes the simplest of things can make a world of difference
Iām guessing they are directional and some arenāt getting installed correctly in the assembly line.
its not an impossible problem to have, could happen easily
glad to hear you found a solution for yourself though
Welp, just ordered my Miyoo Mini Flip from GoGameGeek.
How are people finding theirs and how is the hinge feeling?
Debating whether to jump on the bandwagon
Iāve never had a hinge issue with my rp flip 2, v90s, or 35xxsp, so Iām not enough of a critic I think, but I find it extremely nice. Itās not too tight and the close sound is very satisfying.
The mini flip has become my favorite device to take around with me. Not for its power but its portability, quality and overall experience it provides while gaming
the hinge is great
The size+clamshell is hard to beat for an everyday carry. Really liking it. I love my 35xxsp and my flip2 but I have enough other crap in my pockets to fit those most of the time.
I have had mine since September 25, early Dev Unit. And I have been using mine about every other day. Still feels as good as day 1. I have also been abusing it to better get NDS performance tuned, Ps1 Performance better, etc. So I been running it HOT. And still, it's been Great
If miyoo made another compact device, as well built as this in horizontal form factor, like the a30 but made better (a30 always felt cheap to me) and same chipset as the mini series, thatād be likely my near perfect device.
Until then, the mini flip is as close as Iāve found to perfection in a long time
If Miyoo Made a Brick Screen Handheld, with the A30 Chip. And this Hinge from the Mini Flip. In a Clamshell. End Game device right there
surely a bit more power would be appreciated
Have you used the a30? With Spruce?
It's a 3.2" screen as well, what are you really trying to play on there
maybe I've been spoilt by Android stuff, but I genuinely like the ability to emulate some GameCube nowadays š¤£
but yeah that's fair
With which Handheld tho.
RP Classic so it's not something massive
3.2 is probably on the small side for GC ig
so fair point
4", 10:9 screen vs a 3.2", 4:3....
At some point reading that small text becomes vvveerryyyy difficult
would be really cool to boot up some midrange stuff on such a small device though
yeah for sure lol
I still think Anbernic hinge is better. š
I LOVE the feeling of the 34XXSP. It is perfect IMO.
So... Brick screen, Anbernic hinge, Miyoo buttons (FLIP not Mini Flip) and a RK chip?
Are there EU fellows that have already ordered by Gogamegeek or Linxt ? With regular shipping, is it like with other shops using 4PX and we don't pay taxes at the end ?
Yeah i've ordered from GoGameGeek loads of times and never had to pay VAT. Use RH15 for 15% off
Almost, I want the retroid pocket classic screen, miyoo buttons, and a chip that can run gc and ps2. But clamshell.
Sorry I am talking EDC. That would be too big for me.
I think a clamshells main purpose is a EDC. For at home I am very happy with my CubeXX. š
For Chip, I really think the 3326 is more than Enough for that size Screen. But people want more
I agree with you. People are tired of that chip.... but it does work and we know a lot about it. I'm really happy with my Mini Flip. So... I don't really NEED anything different.
a RP Classic Flip with sticks and a slightly better/more balanced SoC would be so nice
stick in the middle with 6 n64 style buttons...
and two extra buttons outside of start/select for emulator configuration
wait isn't a G1 Gen 2 the Classic chip
or is it a bit better
LOL
I want a better chip tbf
it's really frustrating to see the GPU hold it back for some systems

865 would be nice
I want a "travel" clamshell to compliment my EDC clamshell.
One for everyday and the other to take on long trips where I stay at a hotel for example.
But I don't want the retroid flip 2, it's too big.
I want a 4" 4:3 machine.
yeah I'm never taking my Thor overseas
definitely want something that Chris suggested for that purpose
ill buy 6
What did Chris suggest for that lol
A 4" 4:3 clamshell with enough power to run gc and ps2. Basically a retroid pocket classic, but in clamshell form.
Perfect for travel and trips.
Something inbetween EDC and main handheld.
I checked in with their store and the black model I ordered is definitely part of the second wave. They're doing testing on this second batch of product, so hopefully they're looking into the shoulder button issues people have been mentioning

why does he say it like "mah-yu"

Bugs me how he gives it a hard time over onion when itās not even fully supported on the flip yet⦠a little research wouldāve done him good there
Him saying big problems on the thumbnail is greatly exaggerated too⦠different software wouldāve given a much different result
Like, I agree onion is buggy but that didnāt come out for months when the og mini came out and people liked what it offered, give this one a chance to come out and breathe before you just straight out say itās bad when every other cfw is good in its own way
It's in his name, "DoDo"
I used to like his videos but they bug me more than they should lately
I think he just perfers Cartidges at this point tbh. He loves his Mod Retro, Analog Pocket, etc.
Are the mini flip buttons not as good as the regular flip?
That would be great. But better run medium shaders. And add 2 front buttons to accomodate N64 and Saturn/Genesis/Arcade. One stick would be enougj.
ABXY are close... d-pad is better in Flip vs Mini Flip
Retro Dodo is slop tbf
I don't watch any of Retro Dodo videos anymore. I did when I first started in this hobby. But now... never.
I just skimmed this and was like š¬
I click through them too, just to view the device - not really minding his opinion because it's whack š
I used to like his stuff too, but Iāve found lately his opinions and priorities in reviewing rarely align with my own. Also he just comes off so jaded now. I miss the playfulness and joy of like his RG Nano review
yeah, I can relate
Hey, is this the second batch waiting room?
heres a question for you guys to pick your brains a bit, why is it when i install stock os on the og card, buttons work as expected but when i format and flash it to another card, the triggers go back to like older firmware and dont work right? same firmware and files exactly. everything shows up right but just doesnt work right
Stock RA config has the shoulders reversed to counteract the original FW having the shoulders reversed š
Iām guessing you might have tweaked the RA config on one but not the other?
i just copied the stock sd card after flashing the new firmware to my desktop and everything will work fine like that but when i copy it to a better quality card, it like reverses the update. so, i havent adjusted anything on either, i just go to the button mapping in settings and see it doesnt come up right
Nope, 2 of the 3 of mine showed up today.
Oh, another possibility. Do you have a system.json at the root of either of those SD cards? The remapping in stock OS can live in that file
There should be a field in there for the button mappings, maybe compare the two of those
interesting, good to know.. will look into that
Sharing retro dodo vids should be a temp ban.
aftermarket card wont change themes either apparently
not sure why it hates everything but the stock card
iritating lol... wouldnt mind trying to run stock os but if its that broken, maybe not lol
What were your order numbers around? Iām in 2100s
10xx
something is off about this guy or what? like he just doesn't 'get' it? he complains about OS problems and blames miyoo but he's using onion os, not stock os?
he's always had weird takes
So i think they sold at least 1,000 units... The question is, how many did they ship? Lol
not mine yet
I think you are in batch 2 which is supposedly going to ship in early November...
Batch 2 is nice because they say it solves the L/R button issues, as well as the buzz sound when the wifi is on.
Ah alright thatās why I was asking if this was the second batch waiting room
Who says
some miyoo customer support rep on ali
who knows if it's true or they just say it or they caught it for batch 2 or what
Miyoo said.
We are all here. Dev units, batch 1, and batch 2.
Yy, I was being cheeky
My v2 is tied to my mini order so Iām just waiting for both
Nice to see the setup guide go up and mention all the major players in the firmware options. Should help new users.
He saw my comment lol. Donāt know what to tell the guy who commented though.
The overlay stuff for NDS is common across all CFW on the Mini, Mini Plus, and Mini Flip. Everyone uses Stewardās DraStic port.
well, if someone wants to tell him that, feel free... i dont think ive ever tried emulating DS on anything so, i dont have much experience with it lol
Reading through the comments there are lots of people with wrong info and tips. Oh boy.
i noticed that
I donāt allow myself to read YouTube comments on videos in this niche anymore lol. I just get myself angry
That's my policy on all youtube videos, not just this niche š
I forgot to mention, but I put my first impressions of the Mini Flip out there
Tobu Tobu Girl! One of my favorites. š
Always a good bit of fun on my smaller handhelds haha.
Always need an excuse to share
Hahaha. Always need and excuse to share. š Picked it up at the Retro Game Convention.
I've considered it but it's just too out of my price range haha
Fair. I was dreaming of one. And well.... maybe TMI but the RGC weekend was a bit of a "You live once" weekends. It's REALLY cool. I would say worth it for anyone who would think they would use it and cherish it.
Yeah I totally can understand that mindset towards it haha.
For those that find it worth it, they'll 100% love it
Preorder order delivered to me !
That thing is smol !
L1 doesn't always register
The sdcard isn't recognized??
Yea the early batches have an issue with the l button
it was supposed to be the 2d batch. Apparently not? Is there a way to verify that?
The provided sdcard can be read by a computer. Not by the handheld it seems...
Check if itās formatted to exfat
It should be fat32
I think some peoples have been coming as exfat and not being detected by the device
this is the sdcard untouched from Miyoo
Yea I know. Miyoo has been sending them out as exfat when they should be fat32
I have opened my delivery, taken the sdcard and put it in the handheld
eh
okay
it's exfat
seems like my "preorder" is a leftover 1st batch
I donāt think second batch has started shipping yet
now what? I copy the sdcard, reformat it and put it's content back on a fat32 partition ?
Yea, or you could just set up a new card since the stock ones are crap anyway
I'll put a MinUI on another sdcard yes
does the firmware need to be upgraded too?
is there a howto do that?
just take a sdcard in fat32, copy the stuff on it and boot it?
Does anyone know how long is the waiting time for orders from GoGameGeek?
If Miyoo really is revising the shoulders then we are gonna be waiting some time for the second batch.
I ordered my MM Flip yesterday and I am not sure whether or not I'll get 1st or 2nd batch.
Theyāll claimed to a few people that they are going to address a few things like shoulder buttons, sound, FW and SD card.
If you ordered an unpopular color maybe one on hand? Grey and black are for sure gone and going to take time.
I bought Grey/SNES one
None of us really know how many theyāve made of this āfirst batchā
The most popular according to Miyoo. Iād be prepared to wait at least a few weeks if not longer.
Oh well. I am in no rush. Hopefully by that time OnionOS devs will implement clamshell support.
That was a major reason why I got MM Flip. I loved OnionOS on my ex-MM+
Iām honestly surprised they have preorder up. In the past they only sold stock on hand.
Donāt get a device based on the free work of busy people with lives.
Lid support will come from them or a PR. Graphic glitch maybe a bit more work and time if ever. But there are plenty of options and lots of interest in the Mini Flip. No shortage of OS options.
L1 not registering⦠batch 1 or 2 ?
If i turn off wifi would the battery for this device improve
I thought it was batch 2 since I placed a "preorder". Maybe it was leftovers from batch 1. I don't know how to tell
I feel like in the early days of these things becoming more mainstream, with regular releases, Retro DoDo was pretty good, keeping up on releases and stuff. Critical which is good.
Then like...2 years ago I feel like he became extremely slow to push out reviews/updates and when he does they're lukewarm
I ordered one like two weeks ago and never got a notification saying it was shipped
I ordered a yellow one
received mine yesterday
the hinge feels like a goddamn tank
I think reviewers understated it
Do yall think theyll do a mini +? I think i would like that size better
It's sooooo solid
?
The dead Mario emoji is just because a Miyoo Mini Flip+ would be too similar to a regular Miyoo Flip
It's a nice idea though
MM+ continues to be popular for good reason
Thats why i said that, they might follow a similar release strategy
This continues to be one of my favorite handhelds for Pokemon amongst other games, Iāve pretty well stopped using my other handhelds to solely use the mini flip
As much as I like my choice of black for it not standing out, the snes grey flip mini looks really good
My black one does show my paw prints. Unfortunately I have oily skin and I might need to go with grey for this device.
I have the same issue. I wanted black but every other time Iāve gotten a black device, itās had that issue for me. My next thought was yellow to match my old og Miyoo Mini v4 but nostalgia of having an snes pulled me to the grey model. So grey was the best in the end, plus my first handheld was an sp so it combines 2 memories in 1
Yeah I switched to a retro CubeXX already. I guess my black handheld days are over.
Who are you, and what have you done with tenlevels?!?
You take that back and go back to the flip. š
Oh Iāve been tinkering with it. I blame Ry! š
I got black just because the snes color was the one with most hinge issues for the regular miyoo flip. That color looks really nice though
anyone know how to get wallpapers working on allium?
Hmm, sprigUI's wireless scan will show the same essid twice if you have both 2.4ghz and 5ghz with the same essid. It should just pick the better one and show that, if the essid doesn't differ.
Now I don't know which is which š
(release versin, going to update to the newer builds when i get connected)
are you unaware of the existence of the non-mini Miyoo Flip?
Update: seems like the sprigUI interface latency has definitely improved. I'm still seeing occasional lost button inputs using the dpad, though, and I don't think I've seen that elsewhere, so I don't think it's hardware. Will check.
Actually, I would argue that it should not make decisions for you and [instead] show both. I have multiple bands and put things on specific parts of my network intentionally
That would work too, but only if it shows the frequency details.
Right now it's both too verbose and too concise, as it lists both, but iwthout enough info to decide between them. Either way would solve it
(for me, anyway š
I can see that perspective, I have different names for mine because I live in a condo in the Chicago area so there are lots of networks kicking around.
That's the thing, I think most people that intentionally distinguish between frequency bands also use different essids for each to make it possible to choose between them in most software interfaces
Whereas most consolidate if the name is the same
I micromanage because our walls have lots of metal and I have to pick bands per room, and I also toss less critical stuff on lower speed channels
i followed that but something didnt work right when i did it, not sure what i did wrong exactly
Did you set the background color to transparent?
i dont even know if i have my file set up up correct or not. i think i do but i dont know for certain
Dear Miyoo, please ship my device soon š
Can you show me your stylesheet.json and where you put your wallpaper?
I will dm you and we will figure it out there rather than clogging the chat here
Do it here lol
Iāll add it to wiki to fill that section out
ok
just finishing a pokemon battle and ill get screenshots of each
lol
i pretty much copied and pasted what the wiki said to write etc
640x480, 256.6kb
@wheat ridge what do you think?
Maybe change the foreground color to 000000 as well?
doesnt change anything other than making it impossible to see any text now lol
got it working
not sure what i did but redid everything and it now decided to work
Send the file
Not a screenshot
The wallpaper should be #00000000 (8 zeros) if #000000, it will be detected as black instead. Unfortunate formatting on my side
Glad you made it work
i wonder if i typed something wrong on the .json file as well
would be cool to have a menu on the theme section to be able to pick wallpapers potentially, if thats not too hard to implement
Iāll add a new field in the settings to make it easier to select wallapers next release
You read my mind
haha apparently so
i have another idea for allium too if its not hard to add on the flip
on stock and i think sprig, when the battery is low, the charging light flashes to show its low, is it possible to add that to allium as well?
from like 10% and lower maybe
handy for those of us who get wrapped up in our gaming and forget to monitor the battery life lol
I donāt know how to manipulate the LED, will need to look at how stock does it. I assume sprig is using the stock keymon or whatever is doing the blinking
just ideas to make things better imo... idk how minui achieves such good battery life but further optimization if possible as well too wouldnt hurt š (not complaining, just observations)
there is a lot on allium i do like though so, dont think im hating on it... i do like it lol
does pico8 on allium work the same way as onion on the mini plus? i just saw now it got added but havent tried it yet, currently readding my games and stuff to allium now that i got wallpapers and stuff working
We have tried to figure out the LED I donāt think itās configurable
If we could we would have turned it off immediately
Shaun too
What os have people been using on the miyoo mini flip?
i keep flip flopping between minui, allium and sprig lol, have yet to settle on just one
Allium, sprig, MinUI and Koriki have official support
Onion works mostly but isnāt officially supported on the mini flip
Quite a few it seems
oh yeah, can someone test that claim about only the headphone dongle that comes included working? like does a generic one work?
I remember that the axp chip can do something with the led. I remember there being some discussions in miyoo mini dev threads from a couple years ago, maybe with eggs
I have a generic one that works with my phone and not with the included one, and the included dongle doesnāt work with my phone either.
well, crap
i hate the idea of having to rely on the included one when you might lose it or it might be cheaply built and break
You need a type c to 3.5 adapter with analog audio support, not with DAC chip like most modern adapters
For the difference, you could consult AI
I had another instance of the system falsely detecting the lid closing, while playing. I'm on minui, but I don't think it's the software, since I've had it happen on allium too. Two different devices as well
This happened to me on my first dev Flip (non mini) and Miyoo sent me a replacement. Sounds like maybe you have faulty hardware. And on two devices?! Thatās like terrible luck. Iāve personally not heard of others reporting this (yet).
It's very infrequent, but yeah. I tried emailing them, but they kind of misunderstood and dismissed it
Any chance you are moving your flip near something with a strong magnet when it happens? Like the magnets in your phone or in a laptop?
Nope, just playing it normally
It's not really consitent, the times it happened today were twice after about 10 minutes of playing, and was maybe a minute apart, then didn't happen again
Maybe if I get some time, I'll check into how the polling of the lid is implemented
Itās a hall sensor
I mean through code lol
"/sys/devices/soc0/soc/soc:hall-mh248/hallvalue" reports its state
lol I realized that after I sent it
I havenāt had coffee yet š
In stock itās watched by the keymon binary
Anyone have their MMF refuse to mount the card it came with? The card is fine, Android and Windows can read it, and the device is fine, it mounted and read a different card fine. Tried checking for filesystem errors, there weren't any.... not quite sure what's up here.
Miyoo Formatted it as exFat32
It needs to be Fat32
Copy/Paste all of those files onto your PC.
Format the card as Fat32 using Rufus, WinDisk, w/e you perfer to use
Then put them all back. Should work perfectly then. Would still suggest using a better card than the one they sent you, and better roms tbh
Ah. I usually just use the stock card for quick operational testing
I, wrongfully, it seems, assume the card will work with the device at least initially XD
We noticed after the Dev Units went out....miyoo started sending Batch 1 Units out with Wrong formated cards to people...
I'm wishing I didn't jump the gun, the speaker/wifi interference thing is seriously irritating. Glad I don't need the wifi that often.
First I'm hearing of that problem
Speaker is the EXACT same one as the MM unit. So the Same mod works for upgrading it
Oh, nice, thanks. I'll have to check into that.
It's been happening alot, more people are coming forward. We are always trying to help people as fast as we see them with it ā¤ļø
Guess while I have it open I'll have to look at the dpad behavior, it has a slight rattle against the case that I've noticed with mine that doesn't happen with the other buttons
Well, at least I know everything is working
Thanks for the tip
What's the problem with the speaker/WiFi?
Does the speaker act up when WiFi is on because they're too close together?
It's the Same Speaker as the OG MM. So it was never a Great speaker to begin with. But upgrading it with the well known and shared Phone Mods gives you such amazing results
Yea Iād guess itās some kind of interference. Pretty common on these devices tbh, every device I have from my 35xxH and 34xxsp to my zero28s have some kind of interference caused speaker noise
It's a Cheap Speaker Problem. I upgraded my RGB30 to Laptop Speakers. Completely removed the Static Noise
That sounds great
I own an RGB20 Pro and the static on that is a huge grievance I have with it
8 ohm 1w speakers 1.25 jit connectors
These are the single most common ones, just gotta find the ones that will fit in your shell. Do make sure they come with connectors already attached for easy fitting
I did a speaker mod on the trimui brick and wow was it worth it. Maybe ill try on this one too
Anyone know the speaker size needed for the mini flip yet? Guess I'll pull it apart and check
The same as the miyoo mini and the miyoo mini plus.
The Miyoo Mini is everyone's favorite tiny device, and in this video I'll show off three potential hardware mods to customize the device even more.
Miyoo AliExpress page: https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_DmjsUM7
iFixit tech toolkit: https://amzn.to/3Ds5POx
Sony Xperia speaker: https://ebay.us/bE7k0Y
Redmi Note speaker: https://s.click.aliexpr...
Figured just linking you to the "Source"
And for those who don't wanna Hunt around. This mod also works
Thanks, appreciate it!
Speaker upgrades:
$2 marginally better than stock (select #8) https://a.aliexpress.com/_mLQt0FL
$5 much better than stock (select #15) https://a.aliexpress.com/_msBuCMV
The miyoo mini video advises #8, does #12 fit better for the mini flip?
hang on, the listing has changed, yah 8 in that listing will work, there's a better one in another listing that russ didn't test but the price has gone up
I tested a few of them a while back & 15 was the biggest upgrade, better than the 8, here's a comparison of stock vs 15 in the rg nano:
https://youtu.be/nMBiHE59n30
https://youtu.be/OSD2NKmN-Ko
Quite a difference there!
yah pretty surprising
I wonder how that #15 compares to that phone one he tested. Though it clearly beats it on availability and cost.
yah i didn't bother getting the sony one, couldn't imagine it being like $15 better tbh, only so much you can do with a speaker that small & i was pretty blown away by the 15 already, sounds better than it has any right to lol
onion still doesn't support close to sleep right?
I just checked the github and i don't see an issue for it, neither open nor closed. https://github.com/OnionUI/Onion/issues
No but I have a hypothesis⦠replace Onionās custom keymon with the one from Mini Flip stock and I bet itād work. (May break a few other things though in the process
) Should be in the miyoo/app folder
are you taunting me? š
Just tinkering vicariously through you guys lol
i will take a few minutes to test your idea, just gotta find an sd card to test on
I've been playing the v4 and the mini flip back and forth and I really don't know which one I like the most.
i vote flip for the bigger battery, wifi and smaller size when closed
I also find mini flip more ergonomic. Better spot to rest index fingers, plus face controls are higher up the chin
so, there is no keymon file in the same area in the onion filesystem
Check .tmp_update/bin on Onion. Youāll have to enable showing hidden folders in your file browser if you donāt see it
ill give that a shot
My v4 doesn't have RTC either.
I just love the clear blue color though haha
doesnt seem any different although i do notice onion sees the flip as the mini plus instead of the v4, not sure if its possible to change how it is seen by the firmware
Didnt do anything for the lid sensor?
it can detect when its being closed if thats what you mean, but still seems glitchy
Yeah thatās what I was thinking it would āfixā
What kinda glitchy?
Still getting the screen glitches like this
Thatās a separate issue entirely
Those glitches I had on my v4 as well with onion. I fixed them by resizing the images in my selected theme to match the v4 resolution.
Right now they are 640x480 in most themes... which doesn't work on the v4 or the mini flip.
@paper rose can we get this channel moved out of upcoming devices?
Iām glad I bought 2 of them for my original mini! Gonna pop it in my flip now
Has anyone got a DIY solution for the clacky d pad
Turn up your stereo
It bugs me too lol
That one is too new, either FAFO or learn to live with it til someone else figures it out for you
Not trying to be mean, just being honest
Yea no I get you
Iām thinking of some electrical tape where a few of the plastics meet. Iāll let you know how it goes
Best of Luck, I'm in the Live with it stage. Waiting for someone smarter or Braver than me to figure it out
Something like that will probalby do, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYGS9zlUG38&t=1050s has a bunch of different options for different handhelds, though not specifically this one, I'm hoping something like those will work here. it bugs me too, the clack/rattle sounds so loud and hollow against the case
Handhelds can be really noisy, with loud and clacky buttons. In this video, I'll explain why buttons can be loud, and how to fix them with a few simple, non-destructive mods!
GitHub link for 3D files: https://github.com/whatobiplays/silentbuttonmods
Tools I used:
Electrical tape: https://amzn.to/3TKfXvA
Kapton tape: https://amzn.to/456bOsg
iFi...
Iāve put a tiny bit of tape to hold the rubber membrane slightly tighter and it works a bit
Discovered we had some of the āgoodā packaging tape at home that I learned last year resists scratches nicely so, made myself a screen protector for the flip⦠not 100% perfect but pretty darn close
Upgraded speaker is also working well. It has a similar issue to the stock speaker, where it never fully turns off even at minimum volume. A bit of a hiss too at very low volume, but when you actually want to listen to it it sounds way better
Nice. How's the behavior with wifi enabled vs stock, did you run into interference with either?
I did have crackling when charging with the original speaker. It seems to have fixed that
I'll turn on wifi and test stuff out
Let the tinkering begin. š Made a pak/app to control the display for MinUI and Sprig!
awesome!
i just moved everything from minui to allium and now youre gonna pull me back to it
Allium is great. Just use what you like.
i like both for different reasons
At this point I have an sd card each for minui, allium, and sprig, since i can't decide, but now my saves and states are mismatched between them š
minui for the battery optimization, allium for the extra customization but that adds customization i wanted to have on minui
would the app work on allium?
I can't imagine it would be hard to adapt
I just put it on there and no... but why!?
It crashed Allium
my guess - LD_LIBRARY_PATH differences
When I go to try and select it in apps. Not even trying to launch it
linking against a different version of SDL or something
Can you not just freely add apps in Allium?
Hmm.. OH he uses a config.json as well!? Let me try adding one
Really glad i bought these speakers years ago lmao
still got a hum at no volume, but it sounds better quality
Yeah that was it. Wants that config file
But hmm.... Allium has it's own screen settings. No need for my app
Allium has been great so far for me. it's super nice opening it, loading right back into the game, and closing to shutdown
do yall get the new speakers to be louder, or better sound quality?
Got the exact same ones and the same behaviour
The normal speaker also has a hum at 0 volume too?
Quality is the big thing
that's fair. i've never had an issue but i mostly play gba which had an even worse speaker
It's not as noticable of a difference on this, than it was on the trimui brick
but it was a 5 minute thing with no soldering, so I figured why not
You can change them on the brick??
and mostly play very quiet or sounds off cause work
Brick was a pain honestly, had to cut some of the plastic frame around the buttons
It's not a drop in replacement like this
š® what tapes are those?
I will see if i can find it online
but ive used it on a few devices like my old 28xx in the past and i took that all over and rarely found a scratch on it, almost like it self healed so, im hoping that will be the case for the mini flip as well
not seeing it online but its a more durable packing tape
Do you know if #15 has a hum at 0 volume?
Got my mini flip finally. The size/ergonomics on this are great. More comfortable than mini v4.
L1/R1 suck as people have mentioned (especially L1). And the d-pad is disappointing coming from a mini v4 š
Games like golden axe, street fighter 2, TMNT2, etc, are definitely not as pleasant compared to a mini v4
But the form factor is undeniably great and face buttons are nice. Very little travel but they feel responsive and easy to press quickly
I guess i'll mostly stick to RPGs on it
Platformers are good too since not many diagonals
It's just harder to move left/right very quickly or do diagonals like you do in fast fighting games
Do you know if you have a batch 1 or batch 2 ?
batch 1
i bought all 4 colors (gifts) and recieved the white and pink
Mostly testing the pink so far
Gray/black are batch 2 so still waiting
Agree. Big Flip d-pad is way better and IMO a joy to use even for SF. Rubber membrane though will always be my preference for fighting games.
don't have a mini flip to test yet but you'll most likely have hum with any of them, that's usually caused by poor isolation on the board, sound quality will be better tho
Just ordered a new speaker upgrade plus better screws for the mini flip from etsy... looking forward to hearing how it will sound afterwards
Better screws??
Are people just marketing anything and everything on Etsy now?
Better screws donāt sound hand crafted hahaha
4 screws at $5... I mean seriously?
I mean these things are so cheap the original screws will probably last longer than the device itself, lol.
I feel judged
I ordered those because they were black to fully make my whole RGB30 Black/Yellow since they were the only "Silver" Part sticking out at me....
You could have gone to a hardware store and picked them up for a much smaller fraction of the price.
But as long as your happy, that is all that matters in the end.
finding a good hareware store around me isnt exactly easy lol, i kinda live in the middle of nowhere
if i wanted to travel about an hour or so maybe but then im spending as much in gas
Hmm, off-topic, but is there really no way to get Skraper to stop re-downloading existing artwork if it's not in its short-lived cache? Maybe I should just use Skysraper or an on-device scraper instead. I'm tired of having to re-scrape my damn library for every new device i buy.
misread... but can you not save the pics to a spot on your pc and just keep copying from there
Yeah, that's what I'm wanting to do, but I have a few that are missing, and Skraper wants to re-download the entire damn thing instead, unless i copy them to a separate folder to scrape from
Was hoping it'd just get the missing ones
for the few that are missing, would it not be easier to find them online and resize/name them yourself?
then add them to the proper folders for later
I'm wanting to be thorough, and I have like 42 missing manuals, 10 covers from this one, 3 from that one, etc across the systems. So not quite as trivial as a few here or there. Might have to resort to that, or just let it rescrape over a couple day period or something. Could also use Skyscraper I suppose, but it's a lot more limited
ah gotcha, when i do it, i only do the front cover and no manuals etc, that would take a lot longer
Yeah, makes sense. if it was just for this one device in minui or something it'd be super trivial
https://thumbnails.libretro.com/ see if you can find them on here, might be helpful
wont have the manuals but should have the pics at least
That's a good idea, would at least fill in the cover/screenshot/titlescreen gaps
I was looking at exodos/exoscummvm/etc collections and they really have a nice art setup. There are folders like "Box - Back" "Clear Logo" "Fanart - Background" "Screenshot - Game Over" etc, was thinking I might structure my local archive like that, and just map that into the es-de/es/whatever format for each device
There's even "Advertisement Flyer - Front"
with numeric suffixes for more than one, i.e. -02, -03
Not sure I care enough to want to curate something like that, but it's cool
Absolutely, thanks.
Tried lol. They don't have that size near me locally š
$5 will get you over a hundred of those puppies.
Wasn't a dig on you. I was just more dissappointed in what the platform has become. They used to actually take pride in being a market of individual creators. Now, it is just another free for all with very little curation.
Hit or Miss, some are better than others. Its just the nature of everything. Heck, you can find Fully set up Devices on there for X3 their cost marked up
Will folks that have customized the colors of allium please send me your stylesheets??????
Looking into adding some default theme options for the next release and would love to include user submissions!
Sundoublecrosser Sport
I wanted something pretty while I pick my game, lol.
I've been enjoying mine, great for pickup and play of mole mania
Integer scale doesn't really matter much to me on a resolution this fine
I'm between using Sprig and Onion on my, i can't decide
How so?
Hmm I might have a second sd card for it haha
Allium MinUI and koriki are also options
its about to get even better
#1372499987606405171 message
ooooo nice
If you set up your allium card all custom like send me the style sheet if you want to contribute a potential theme option for an upcoming release
this is the one i setup on my grey flip
really only changed the highlight color and buttons tho
Have the Onion devs got their mits on this device yet? Excited to see what they do, but heard no murmurs on rg handhelds's discord yet. Would need a bit of updating to latest cores and whatnot though.
My mind went straight to the 5 guys 1 girl meme. Time to have a bit of a break from the internets.

Hey @paper rose, any chance of moving this thread to the released devices now that its out?
Some of them have the device, but they are also very busy with IRL stuff
Hmm, do the onion ports work on the other firmware images, or are their library path issues?
I haven't tried tbh, but if there's library issues they'll be solvable if you can track down which libraries the ports are crying for
True.
Not a priority really, given the screen size a lot of them wouldn't make sense, but some of the sonic ones, zelda3, etc should run fine. probably the super metroid one, though might have to build that one from scratch.
Major Changes
- The UI now runs faster and smoother, with things like changes to volume and brightness reflecting immediately instead of after a delay.
- Replaced
keymonwith our own watchdog scripts for greater customization of button, lid, and battery behavior. - Added the Game Nursery, an over-the-air downloader for free homebrew games for a variety of platforms.
- Added display settings for brightness, contrast, saturation, hue, and independent red/green/blue balance (thanks @fresh spade!).
- Improved boxart optimization algorithms that better balance size on disk and render speed.
- Implemented variable time settings to safely auto-shutdown your device after closing the lid.
- Added options to disable wifi while in game or while in pseudo-sleep, in order to save battery.
- Added options to enable or disable ADB, SSH, Samba, and Telnet access to your device.
- Added ability to exit boxart scraper early by pressing the MENU button; also various under-the-hood scraper improvements.
gotta get out another sd card to have this one on š
Isn't easy enough to delete the needed and replace the needed folders and maybe tweak the rom folder names when moving from one cfw to another? They're largely the same file structure.
Yes
I think all the CFW for the mini flip uses a āBIOSā folder
And āRomsā
So just need to edit the individual Roms folders names
Should salvage your saves too obviously.
I just don't want to overwrite my allium sd card in case i want to go back to it
Allium is small, backup the files so you can redo it later
Can you overclock this? I want to use the other PS1 core (swan) since it has better support for a feature I want but it's slower than rearmed but like 5-10%. On onion os
i heard the left shoulder button is broken on some devices, is that true?
Broken? No
Less than ideal? Yes
oh i misremembered
It is difficulty to actuate unless you press it near the front edge. I think it has something to do with the plastic mold or the rubber gasket. It isn't the switch itself.
Approaching the middle of November but still no shipping š
Allium may be small, but it has an excellent sense of self esteem.
Not gonna ship soon if Miyoo is really revising the shoulders and sound issues.
Honestly I hope they do revise it and delay batch 2. You will all be happier. I know it will be a longer wait... but worth it IMO
So yeah we do belong in upcoming devices. š¬ š¤Ŗ š¤£
You mean I narrowly avoided being a beta tester?
Hard to say, I have three mini Flips and they're all fine
Unfortunately yes. This batch one does have shoulder and sound issues.
Both of my units have the issues.
Thatās uh⦠unfortunately how Miyoo launches go š

Not unusable... but could be better
Every single time
I mean really it almost never will pay off to be an early adopter of any of these devices, Miyoo or not
Even Anbernic with light bleed issues and... well list goes on
I agree, I always assume issues, but in this case I paid attention to the devs and, based on that, went for it and I got lucky.
suboptimal
but decent for the games I'm playing on them
If you don't use shoulders and upgrade the speaker things are OK/Better on this first batch
I mean, none of my GC games run, but that was probably something I expected in a dream
I have mine in my front pocket daily and am in love with it. Flaws and all. It's my favorite Miyoo device to date.
stability wise allium all day, feature wise onion
Allium is a complete custom ground up OS/UI. It looks like MinUI but uses RetroArch and an in-game menu like MinUI/Stock MainUI. It is very snappy and faster than Onion mainly because Onion is using and bound by stock MainUI. If you like the look of MainUI/Stock/OnionOS and the OnionOS GameSwitcher then I would recommend Onion. If you Like MinUI look/feel and in-game then I say Allium. You can customize Allium colors and add wallpaper as well vs MinUI where you can't. Think of Allium as sort of MinUI look but with RetroArch and in-game menu for save and load states. However it is not minarch like MinUI in that you need to be comfortable with RetroArch for things like overlays and other configs.
Now.... to throw a wrench in the works. There is sprig by the spruce team and mainly Ry. That has the look/fell of OnionOS/MainUI but with some additional features and is getting better daily. So I would say check that out as well. Honestly... try them all. It's worth it IMO to find the one you connect with the most to enjoy your Mini Flip.
Ry and Chris š
man. love the devs supporting all these. so many options!
Yes yes. Sorry. I just meant Ry was sort of the one most leading the Mini Flip.
I may be throwing my hat in the mix soon.
Yeah????
Yeah.... I spent all day today on a feature for MinUI that is compatible for Brick/H700/Mini series/Flip
It's time y'all.
The Miyoo Mini Flip has it's own thread now
