#AYN Odin 2 Mini
1 messages · Page 3 of 1
6" and the device is slightly too big, 4.7" and the device was slightly too small
I just can't win T.T
There are 5.5 devices.
I do like the Vita screen size though
Not with 8g2 but still
So hoping and coping this is good enough
Pocket air, Ayaneo Air (x86), rg556…
Still not in any way a good screen type that would make me go “dude, you gotta get it! It’s not just the same chip, but it’s got a MiniLED screen!” like OLED would.
I dunno last miniLED retro consoles that got reviewed iirc got praised for its screen looking really good
That was a 4K screen because it was designed for VR.
I’m always oled or bust. An amazing ips still looks just ok to me
As long as the screen doesn't have issues I'm okay with anything tbh
This tbh
I noticed that besides the lack of smearing/ghosting, IPS didn't impress me as much as I expected when I got one for my desktop
That’s the same as me, except I’m more willing to get an IPS screen than a MiniLED screen. I just have way too little good experiences with MiniLED to think it’s worth paying more money for.
Was using VA before and the colors on the VA was just better
Maybe I won the screen lottery but the screen on the Odin 2 looks great to me
Colors look great just not ghosting. Still dunno if some people just don’t see it or if there actually panel differences
If Ayn can stick the landing and use a MiniLED panel with an actually good refresh rate, then that won’t change the fact I don’t need another Odin 2, but it will make me more willing to recommend it.
Nah I noticed the ghosting for sure on the VA.
I know people complain about ghosting (and I've seen a few videos showing it and it being pretty obvious) but I didn't see it on mine
Likely just people don’t actively notice it until a certain extent. I know I don’t notice the ghosting on the Odin 2 or even the RP4 Pro unless I’m actively looking for it, but I could notice the ghosting on the Odin Lite without actually trying, and I definitely noticed ghosting on all the MiniLED panels I’ve ever used.
I don't know much about ayaneo but I've been hearing bad things about them. Do their devices break alot?also is this device closer to switch lite or vita in size because deespure their barely being a difference it makes a big difference in picketabikuty. I doubt the dimensions other than length matter for shoving in a cargo short pocket .
As far as I'm aware so take this with a grain of salt.
Ayaneo has a bad habit of lack of support over time
And also lots of releases
Retroid Pocket 4 Pro is smaller than the Switch Lite (it’s RP3 sized), so if the Odin 2 Mini is around the same size, then yeah it’ll be smaller.
Would try to find the other pictures I took of my oleds but that was the easiest one I could find in my history lol
But that was my s21 after a few months iirc
It's between a vita and a switch lite, albeit thicker. If you want the base then the only real comparison value wise is the Odin Base. If you want the Pro then the value is very arguable compared to the Pocket S, which is Switch Lite sized and better in every other way (mini led is not a plus for me at this size).
By the time I got rid of my s21 ultra you could see the discord server selection, YouTube and Gmail burnt in
But yea my OLED experiences haven't been great
still chilling on my S10 without any burn in
I don't know if the pocket s is actually better in every other way...
Please don't remind me
My S9 was a champ
still think the S10 was absolute peak in terms of design
Abused far more and it held up.... Only reason I got rid of it was a trade in deal too good to give up on
And the battery life got pretty miserable
yeee
Since got my s9 xD
I actually never planned on swapping off it
Until someone brought the s23 for me as a gift
That's my personal assessment based on what I've seen, at least hardware wise. Better battery, slimmer, sleeker, bigger screen, more performance, etc. At the same price point I think you only lose out on storage.
I will say for me I don't know if slimmer is better
Ergo-wise anyway
I look at the Pocket S and the whole time I'm thinking that looks like a pain to use
The Odin 2 Mini doesn't seem particularly ergonomic to me either
Oh for sure
But I'm okay with either
I still rather have thicc vs slim though
haven't held a vita but I think I'd vibe with it
Tech dweeb showed and mentioned the dpad issues and uh...
Especially after holding a Vita OLED vs the Vita 2K
did they fix it
Anyone who has to start thinking about modifying the console because diagnols are a problem...
I don't watch dweeb
White one is cool
I'm still pissed that I didn't get the white o2
I don't either... I skimmed through it since people mentioned something in his video
The 2 things that caught me were the speakers and the dpad
I'm not
It's not ish it's just plain better especially for the same price. One could argue that it's pointless given the current state of Android software which is valid hence why it's last on my list, but again, it's just better at the same price.
The Ayaneo Pocket S is an AMAZING piece of tech! This is nothing short of the new standard in handheld performance. However there are a few missteps along the way. Are they enough to dampen the magic? Let's find out!

Using one as my computer monitor even. Life is too short, oled is too beautiful

Wrong channel
I know more or less referring to jade
that's weird lol
so russ pre-prod -> dpad diags were too easy to hit
dweeb prod (I assume it's prod) -> dpag diags too hard to hit
feels weird to me that we cant have some other mid-range chip, like maybe the 865 or the 7 gen 2? but idk i guess tthey dont make the 865 anymore
fun fact there was leak from deal that said they are paying for 140$ for Elite X which is much more powerful than ge n2
so maybe it just doenst cost that much idk?
I just wish they would have used the font on this mini on the regular Odin 2
I hate the Odin 2s gamer font
Lol
(on the buttons)
It's the only reason I'm even remotely tempted to buy a set of Sakura buttons lol
another thing for the record
Prob cus anything after sd 8+ will be viable for a really long time
I think 8+ and then lower price would make more sense on this
Or 870
Mini LED lives and dies on the algo its using, you can have TVs using much less dimming zones than the others and still beating it due to just having way much algrohitm (and electronics in genera)
If you think about it realisically, even 100 dimming zones (which each dimming zones is multiple leds reminder) already counts for 1% of the screen, so anything should be very good right. but conisdering the fact that miniLEDs nowadays come at a minimum of 300-500 dimming zones, that means each dimming zone will be a tiny part of a display this size.
Will need to see it in action and how their panel is
but still you can see massive difference between TVs depending on the software the are using

This video dives deep into the importanced of good firmware on miniled, for those who acurious and arent familiar much with tech yet
We review the Sony X95L Mini LED TV, comparing it vs the Samsung QN95C, TCL C845, Hisense U8K, Sony X90L & LG G3 OLED in many aspects of picture quality.
Our review sample is the 65-inch Sony XR-65X95L, but our findings should also apply to the 75-inch BRAVIA XR-75X95L, and the 85-inch XR-85X95L.
The Sony X95L, Samsung QN95C, TCL C845 & Hisens...
but ill be real i really dont trust those chinesum companies to have good firmware for these 😭

But no quality control issues?because that's what I'm most worried abouts.
S10 was peak design except that the buttons were on the left.i like to map my volume buttons to actions anfunctuons and its really difficult to that on my s10e. It's perfect in every other way and I'm using it right nie
The 865 likely isn’t in production anymore, or at least not enough for a handheld company to use as the sole chip for a new handheld. The 7 Gen 2 I’m not as sure about.
nah they are gatekeeping that chip, too good of a value
rather sell higher end chips at more profit
that fuckin bixby button
the world if MTK chips had good drivers
Yeah, that’s what “out of production” means for chipset companies.
Omg don't even mention that butto
What were Samsung thinking
Stop making the chips that are still good for regular or mid-range phones, only make stuff for the higher tiers or would cost more.
Jade if i may, i saw you talked about some cloud saves for devices, i was wondering if you know if theres a way to set it up for unrooted devices nowadays?
oh my o2 isn't rooted, you should be able to just follow joey's guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PQQsngwInIc
In this video, we go over how to best sync your saves and states across as many Android handhelds and devices as you want, everything from RetroArch, to Dolphin, to NetherSX2 and more.
3D print anything for your retro handhelds with PCBWay!

Writt...
Exactly, hence why they put them out of production.
joey?
From powkiddy dpad to datafrog dpad lol
yeah there's not much foldersync guides out here
I can’t imagine paying ayaneo money for that dpad
You can disable it in adb and use a third party button mapper to make it do anything you want.ya they should've updated it to a mappable side key like newer models but the bigger issue for me is that it's on the left
The ayn dpad rocks
it's my discord button since that's smth you can do from stock without adb
mhm. as i thought though andorid limited scope doesnt allow you to get it working without needing to import export
a pity
for some emulators
the interesting ones anyway (dolphin nethersx2)
The dpad on top/bottom debate over already?
Never
You never know what people will use it for
o ofno offense
Imagine asym being physically painful to use in most cases
what
That's what I deal with, big hands, stick is too close to L buttons, makes it physically uncomfortable to use at the same time
the PS5 is dpad top.
And no one complains about it
its a bit different though
Not really
Ps controllers sticks are inset though. On a handheld the sticks can’t be inset because that’s where the screen is.
Unless you make the handheld extra wide
For the record I have no problem using Xbox or ps controllers
But handhelds are often too cramped with either layout
A lot depends on thickness, when you have something as thin as a handheld it's hard to get the ergo right no matter where it is
Controller grips mitigate a lot of the awkwardness
Yeah, I think I’m essentially agreeing with you. Just saying that dpad top or dpad bottom is only one small part of the whole ergonomic equation.
On the other hand I love my pro2 from 8bitdo
Offset, angle, spacing, thickness, weight. All matter
o2 causes me pain because I have medium hands and pressing right trigger and using right stick at the same time is a weird stretch.
So hands matter too lol
Yep, problem is, even on something like the pocket air, which has grips, they're still too close & thus uncomfortable. Yah the right stick on the O2 is in a weird spot. Torn on this one.
Pair was more comfy than o2 to me so I probably have smaller hands than you
Yah I've got some mits lol
just give me a dualsense shaped hand- oh
This is like.. my ideal handheld on paper, would love to wait for reviews buuut.. them early bird deals
the g8 is probalby the most comfortable "handheld" i ever used ill be real. everything else is different flavors of mid
like i can say the rg556 is the most comfortable but the truth is every time i pick the xbox elite controller again it just feels so much better all around
Yah, I mean it'll never be controller levels of good but not offensive is where I'm willing to settle lol
the ultimate controller was so dissapointing ngl and not bc its bad, it was so overhyped
Yea
its just a normal controller.. good value with the dock and dongle ootb.
but its just average imo
Honestly, one of the most comfortable I've used surprised me, the bigger binbok joy cons, asym & all
All I want is the hall effects
dualsense changed me lol
My sn30 pro left analog failed which is why I got the pro 2
I'm still mad it drifted after 11 months
Always afraid the pro 2 analogs will fail
Pro2 with a dock like the Ultimate would be a dream
Dual sense is my fav overall, but I wish it was like 10% bigger
Mine too! Wtf!
Also I wish split controls were more common. Using binboks separated is fine but clearly isn't designed around that and the joycons are too dinky and small
I'll hall mod mine one day
But like gosh, I like my gulikit zen pro but I find myself stretching my arms up behind my back while using it, I want to be able to put my arms wherever I want and have them stretched out!
already got one of em
Either one I’m waiting for it to drop
Wait
There's a hall effects update one?
alps is 50 cad rn
They made an update?
yep they added hall to a bunch of their controllers
Level up your 8BitDo controllers with Hall Effect joysticks. The upgraded Ultimate Wired for Xbox, Pro 2, and SN30 Pro controllers are now equipped with Hall Effect joysticks for unparalleled precision and sensitivity.
Now available on Amazon: https://t.co/55qc6Zferk
they just randomly dropped that
Who do I need to do inappropriate things to to make a good split controller option a reality, I can't be the only one who would be all over this can I
Wow that came out of no where lol
I was expecting like
"here's the pro 3... It's a pro 2 but with hall sticks"
can they give me a ultimate BT that has a physical mode switch
the ultimate BT being a switch controller in BT is legit the biggest "oh come on" moment I've had in my life
is this real?
Yes sir
Online shopping from a great selection at Video Games Store.
Perfect ergo 🔥 🌭

I was gonna say if they made a kool aid SN30pro/+ or whatever they call it these days with the hall sticks
that would be in my laptop bag lmao
lmfao
i just hate that controllers nowadays are all rebranded xbox controller
switch pro is basically just rebranded xbox controller, same for the 8bit ultimate
dualsense is close but still not exactly that
I love it
Give me Xbox, dualsense, or Xbox with Nintendo layout lol
Works for me 😆
It is always difficult to discuss some controller things by telling ABXY with my friends
Square Cross Circle Triangle is always better to identify the button position
Well, the Switch Pro controller also has an insane battery life.
Xbox button layout definitely makes more sense than Nintendo, though hot take I wish it was A on the bottom, B on the left, X on the right, and Y on top.
that's even more confusing
mmm that white odin 2 mini looks kinda nice
It wouldn't be if it's what every controller did since the snes. That's why I'm inventing a time machine to change the snes layout to this and ensuring everyone just copies it
I propose replacing ABXY with simple right/down/left/up arrow glyphs
α β χ ψ
8bitDo archimedes edition
im gonna keep saying an ultimate with a touchpad
can we get the OTA first

This is how I map gamecube since it mimics the real controller. But labeled like that wouldn't make much sense for anything else.
How about magnetic button tops? I think the gamesir x2pro does that
Man this please... PLEASE
Yea no it's all good as long as it's eventually out in may
when they drop in beta, they usually stay there for a few days, 288 was in beta for like 1-2 days
I just went into the various emus and set global volume to 70-80%
Then 1 tick above silent was bearable
Also all the sudden my ES-DE setup has become broken for some reason
Nothing launches anymore
Beacon still works though so...
¯_(ツ)_/¯
did you update or?
Update
Dunno... It's cool though I'll just uh
Resetup ES-DE from scratch
Either that or just say f it and stick with beacon lol
Or pegasus
tbf when you delete ES-DE, you only lose the initial config and themes
the scraped art, etc isn't lost
Then I don't know.... Hmmm
ill just factory refresh the Odin 2
Was there ever discussed a way to bring over ES-DE android game list to pegasus?
Yes, it was a flawless d-pad top victory
Just take out the joystick and give me d-pad middle
Who the heck are those 15% in the top option
Just kidding, give me the joystick only, haven't used a d-pad since the snes
"$339".... (plus shipping, which historically hasn't been cheap)
Protip - put the ES-DE directory on the mSD card.
just noticed that the face buttons have the xbox layout instead of the nintendo one
finally
Then you can put the sd in any android device and have all your artwork and settings

I think this is one we feel confident in moving straight to Upcoming Devices. Thoughts?
I think there's a reasonable chance this one is legit
I have 2 positive oriented emojis telling me to listen to the intrusive thoughts
Gotta shed all the preconceived notions of button placement! If the snes had this layout, smw would've been hold B to run press A to jump or hold Y to run and X to spin jump! Gba games on ds and snes wouldn't have their awkward layout(assuming super gameboy uses A as A and B as B like the ds) :D Just gotta expand your mind. Soon I will indoctrinate everyone to my cult
