#Metroid Prime
1 messages ¡ Page 3 of 1
Mine wasnât so brutal but boy was I glad to see that save room
Screw these giant mushrooms
Ah I love it
Anyway yeah very final upgrade is a suit upgrade and then any beam combos you haven't found which are all optional
Never been happier to see a save room. Think Iâm about to meet the ||omega pirate || judging by the nearby scans
Keep on chugging
Just rounded up the rest of the artifacts after grabbing the plasma beam
Jesus FN Christ, the || omega pirate || was a total wanker, my nerves are shot.
And there are at least 2 more bosses
Just finished, great game! Will definitely play the others at some point
Only Boss I found hard was the last part of Meta. Last boss is a color by numbers joke.
Well my nerves are shot, leaving it for tonight
In the fight ||just have to ignore the adds. Too many of them and youâll miss the chance to damage the boss ||
Yeah thatâs what I ended up doing but the whole âwhat weaponâ bad guys plus the panic of trying to find the big one for be my the end.
Managed to beat them, got back to the start of the mines and saved there.
I still havenât got all the artefact clues (although found one without a clue, I think)
Any idea if I have to go back to the statues to get the rest of the clues? I was hoping theyâd just kinda appear
Pretty sure you have to go back all the way. Or look up a guide
If you want Iâll just dm you what the hints say so you donât see any spoiler
Much appreciated
If you scanned the statues the hints are in your log book.
I only went to the statues when they first unlocked and not all the statues were scannable at that time
Iâm asking if I have to go back to scan the others
I just bombed the Omega and shot him on the sides twice.
The back half is actually 4x the length of the rest of the game
got the grapple
Me when fetch quest
I spent waaaaay too much time on Speed Punks instead of hammering out MP this weekend...it's going to come down to the wire
End of the month is sneaking up on me. Just got the super missiles in the research station. If I play for like 2 hours each night, could I finish? Or should I just give up now?
I'm right behind myself, think just before the research station. Prolly going to dash this to end today and tomorrow.
That would be cutting it close. If you could do 2.5 hours a day, that should be enough. Less and I'm not too sure. And don't waste time by dying
Alright got the final suit, artifact hunting time! ||jk i'm looking it up just like back in the day||
The mushroom platforming segment was the first bad time i had
What went wrong with mushroom platforming?
i fell down many times
it is in part because of my setup
i'm playing on a projector that isn't super bright so dark places like that can be harder to read, and the projector has a bit of latency
the gaming mode has low latency but it doesn't have keystone correction so i can't use it
worth it for the giant metroids on my wall
This game requires some brightness. I started with the GC version on my RP3+ and had the screen like on the lowest setting possible and was not having a good time.
I had the same issue with the mushrooms, I tend to play with lower brightness so that might have been it too.
Mushrooms werenât as bad as the ||omega pirate|| though.
The ||underwater frigate || was my favourite section so far. Kinda my favourite GOTm experience for an age
Backtracking all the way up Phrendrana đŚ
I get the feeling I am 24 hours behind you
24 hours is pushing it
i beat the omega pirate this morning
no work though, so i've got time
picking up the last artifact then taking a break, i'll finish tomorrow
Fair. That omiga pirate thoughâŚâŚ was the worst part of the game so far
took a retry, but i liked the mushrooms less
Oh I hated the mushrooms but I really hated the OP
What part makes it hard? I've played it enough that everything is second nature. It's hard for me to remember the obstacles. I even killed all the adds during the fight without issue. What part makes it hard?
i kept missing my shot at the omega when he turned invisible because the minions were in front of me, and when i tried to focus on the omega, when he became visible again and used his vacuum thing the minions i had left alive became invincible
i retried, focused on him, it went fine
i too am not a fan of omega pirate. i had to retry by changing the Y button to L1 on my odin because keeping the original control scheme had my hand cramping
I think part of it was because f been playing too long and was hitting the weariness barrier.
||But the MFer teleporting and not being able to find him in the blackness while not being able to work out which gun to use on the adds (as I was using x-Ray) really annoyed me.
The skill issue is that it took me too long to work out how to dodge the hand to hand blows, or to just ignore the adds and suck up the gunfire which searching through the blackness ||
Ball, super bomb and Omgea is easy work.
||Switching visor is super fast. He won't appear for the first bit so you have time to focus on the are ladds||
I did not expect marble madness. I think Iâm gonna have to call it with this game. 8 hours or so to go is probably too much for me to manage in 4 days, realistically. I didnât really jive with this game. I liked the music and atmosphere, but just about everything else was tedious, annoying, or just boring. Not ever really any challenge that I enjoyed. Combat was too easy, some of the platforming seemed to require too much precision for the bad perspective, and the morph ball stuff mostly just annoyed me. I think Metroid is better in 2D.
I'd have to agree, Super Metroid was a blast. This game, not so much. I'll probably give Metroid Prime 2 a try someday.
I'll probably try Metroid Fusion first though, especially if the Analogue Pocket gets DAC support someday soon.
dang I can't beat ||metroid primes second form||
it might be frame rate related. My flip is struggling in this part
wait until ||he opens his mouth before or after the beam attack||
oh ok. Also I just noticed I forgot to set performance mode lol. I bet those 2 combined gets me through it
I dopped it on the rp3+ becasue it wasn't doing for me. Spent the money to get the Switch remaster. BTW who wants to buy it?
Spiderball get. Fucking hell that rock took a bashing.
That is about half way. You can do this.
Ok, so it turns out the artifact collecting at the end wasnât so bad, I only had one in the lava levels and one in the ruins, then the ice and mines. The mines though - buts I hated the most - the mushroom jumps and the ||omega pirate|| so most of each for the artefacts? Lovely
Saying that I am liking the artefact puzzles a fair bit
I wish the hints had been a touch vaguer tbh. When there's no threats around scanning in xray and heat vision is fun
Ok Iâm on the artifact ||that asks you to take down the tunnel||
I can see a gap with x-Ray vision, but nothing, power bomb or super missile seems to work. Any advice?
Which one?
Nature?
The one thatâs the ||tower in the ice world||
Itâs my only artefact left.
Loved finding the hidden entrance in the ||long thin âedgeâ room||
Way to explain like three different artifacts
Alright
If it's the ||tower with the frozen Chozo statue at the top, use the plasma beam to melt the ice in his hands||
If it's the ||tower with the flying pirates you need to go to the window and shoot the fuel barrels||
Sorry, itâs the latter, oooh interesting I never saw the ||barrels||
Thank you very much

alright, impact crater. Let's do this
I would NEVER have got that on my own
All artifacts got now
Right behind you
Yeah that's such a weird one tbh đ
If you loved the ||omega pirate|| you'll love the final boss
Yeah I had to back off from the window just to be able to shoot the barrels
There's just no other "puzzle" like that in the whole game, and zero indication that that's what you're meant to do beyond just wild curiosity and experimentation
OH GOOD
Yeah I wouldnât have even recognised them ||as barrels ||tbh
Heeeeeeers ||ridley||
Yeah that one is bs
I have literally zero clue how I managed to figure that out back in the day when I was a kid with a Gamecube and no access to a GameFAQs
Mighta been a paper guide like Prima tbh
The window is very icy looking. I took a mental note that I might have to break that ice. Returned when I got the beam
I was listening to Dethklok at the time
Oh my god, the ||phazon core|| with all the stupid ||splitting metroids|| knocking you off platforms if you try to ignore them is so annoying. Giving up ther efor today
I keep getting body checked by them mid-jump
Super Bombs are great
I got frustrated with this game for the first time tonight. I was in magmoor where the next hint told me to go. Made it through the puzzle to get to the top of the tall room, only to find I needed a power bomb and didnât have one. Oh well, I think, Iâll kill some enemies and one will drop soon. No dice. I ended up going all the way back to the ship to replenish ammo, then called it.
I had the same problem when I got to the Grapple Beam room
Just defeated my first Metroid in the core, beating this in time is going to come down to the wire.
Thermal visor acquired
Apparently enemy drops are only slightly random. Individual enemies apparently have drop pools. I don't even think it's by enemy type but by individual spawns
aaaand I'm banging my head against the PrimeHack controls
I'm trying to use a controller, but I can't turn. It seems like I'm locked in strafe mode
That's weird. đ¤
all right fuck it. how good are the Wiimote-style controls on the Metroid Prime remaster
if they actually feel good to use I'll do that. I just got the morph ball
Like the kb/m controls in PrimeHack are working and they're all right but I feel like playing this game the way Nintendo intended might feel better
Hmm. From what I'm reading, the pointer controls in the Switch remaster aren't great
I don't want to play twinstick. Are the graphics and other upgrades really worth it if I'm going to play traditional GameCube style? 'Cause if not I'll just keep going with kb/m on Primehack
the graphics look amazing and the modern controls were the reason why I played the remaster. was it worth $40? I personally think so, but I can see how it'd be a bit of a stretch. there's nothing really new outside of higher poly count and new controls.
Honestly the GameCube version does not look bad to me. It's dated, but obviously being on this server, that doesn't necessarily bother me that much
Did you use twinstick, twinstick+gyro, or pointer?
twinstick+gyro
Honestly I really dislike twinstick, and haven't played enough games using twinstick+gyro to really know if it'd gel with me or not
Do you know if it takes gyro controls from third-party controllers with gyro while docked?
actually I'mma find out if I can google that
yeah the switch takes gyro input from 3rd party controllers
I played with 3rd party joycons in handheld mode
the gyro is really minor and I could've done without. there are no headshots in this game, which is what I'd usually rely on gyro for in a shooter.
that's fair
I'm not very far in the GC version on PrimeHack but I might just stick with it, because kb/m is generally how I prefer to play shooters
Either that or traditional GC controls with lockon
and if all there is is a higher poly count, meh
But yes. Without headshots or other location sensitivity, it does feel like fine aiming is deprecated in this game compared to most shooters
I forgot how cool the music in this game is
I'm not gonna lie though, I wouldn't kick a proper aspect ratio out of bed
You should find a gecko code for widescreen on the dolphin wiki
Does it actually work well tho?
I played the Wii version and I think the controls feel great. c:
Joycons aren't as good for motion controls, but that control scheme works really well for Metroid Prime imo.
And I've seen someone speedrun Metroid Prime Remastered using the motion controls.
If I had a Wii around and could quickly get the Wii trilogy I'd do that but I don't and it's coming up on the deadline
Well if you're considering the motion controls with the Remaster it's the same thing.
Except for the thing where the joycons apparently aren't as good as the wiimote
Yeah, but like I said, I've seen someone speedrun Metroid Prime Remastered using the motion controls.
And I've personally played Super Mario Galaxy on Switch. Sure, you'll find yourself quickly resetting the pointer every so often, but it works well enough imo.
fair enough
They work nearly perfectly for the 40+ games I've tried
Hm.
Got the ||Gravity Suit|| and it seems that next up is the ||Crashed Frigate||
Dunno how close to the end I am, but I'll try to go on as long as I can today and finish the rest tomorrow and the day after.
I think youâre maybe 3/5 through
I see. Hope it's not going to cut too close.
Good luck
The good news is the upcoming frigate is my favourite bit
Thanks! Looking forward to it!
Wow, that last boss is more annoying than difficult
Swapping visors and beams was a bit annoying for sure, my least favorite part of the end game was definitely anytime jumping and mushrooms were involved
which one? the rock boss?
I actually like jumping in prime
The very last boss
||The Metroid||
Lots of jumping and waiting around to blast
||prime|| he is just ||color by numbers and stand in this area and shoot|| one of the biggest let downs to me.
It is a little disappointing when the combat breaks down to "swap to blue gun, then swap to pink" etc
But still a fun game
I think Meta was the best boss in the game. Omega is a chump.
I liked Prime
Elite Pirates are easier to kill than the normal ones đ
What is Ridley's deal anyway
I got all the scans and I still don't know. Story isn't really there.
ridley's deal spans games
Iirc in this particular game, ||he's just been resurrected as a cyborg and ambushed by his killer (samus) while he's trying to get situated||
Played Zero, Fusion and Super. Still don't understand the story. It is very lite like Mario.
|| you make it seem like Samus is the bad guy here ||
you don't earn the moniker "metal hunter" by being nice, lets be honest
you're telling me I'm not playig as the bad guy? What's the point of all of this then?
I did genocide a lot of wildlife that was kinda just existing đ¤
cash is king, Samus needs a job
Does the game have a plot? If so what is it.
Jay grasping at anything to say the game sucks
|| Space pirates take over chozo world, where a meteor had landed. The meteor is a source of phazon, a corrupting energy which the space pirates try to harness for their own power. Ridley is here ||
||Samus is cleaning up the remnants of the space pirates, follows them to their "last" hideout and stumbles upon an old Chozo secret (and Ridley).||
I am asking serious questions
I didn't read any of the logs besides the boss ones that told me how to fight them. Am I a game journalist level gamer?
Did you read any of the scans ? Wasn't War and Peace
prime does yeah. ||The space pirates found tallon iv which has phazon a new fun radiation and power source. They infuse every living creature they can find with it to see what happens. Mostly this means larger and more aggressive but not always. Turns out the tallon iv indigenous people had mystical ability to partially see the future and planned for this with artifacts locking away the source of phazon and planting certain tools in secure areas where they hoped the "outsider" would find them before the invasive species (space pirates). After dealing with the space pirates, Samus goes to the source of phazon and finds a big ole metroid has been absorbing the stuff for a century||
Why are we fighting the pirates? What is the point? Do they pose a threat?
the pirates tell you everything they're doing in logs
hence the pirate part
they want to ||use phazon to create ultimate soldier mutants and take over the galaxy. It's all in the logs||
basically a threat to democracy, good money in killing them and ||killed samus' parents when she was a kid||
this part is not actually explained within metroid prime though
True, but it's a follow up to older games which do
Ah, I somehow remembered that they rehashed the relationship between Samus and Ridley there somewhere.
yeah and it's cool how there is stuff to know by playing more games but prime itself works without knowing any of that. Full story is in the big spoiler I posted above
I read all the logs and got none of that. But any fan page will tell you that.
I had no idea of any of it before playing the game and got all of it from the logs
In the end, Prime is "just a sidestory" anyways.
Can't remember if the plot or events come up anywhere in the mainline.
(or other storylines)
are you sure you read the logs because here's an archive and it's all laid out here https://www.metroidwiki.org/wiki/Pirate_Data
It's supposed to take place between 1 and 2
Playing through Zero Mission now because of this GotM
I have the nitpickiest complaint about zero mission, I don't like how fast samus moves lol
I'm not a huge fan of story being told through logs. Fucking Destiny.
I was also told at the beginning of the month that the logs don't matter.
best part of the game
they don't matter for gameplay
I prefer samus to be careful and deliberate
Exact opposite, love how fast you can move, if only because of the polar opposite of Prime speed
you can go and shoot to your heart's content
super metroid is my fav though
So used to platformers giving the player some inertia when jumping and moving. Not Zero Mission, full speed jump and sticks the landing like a gymnist
so I went looking for the logs and found this. I only just learned there's message differences between ntsc and pal wow
that's all 2d metroid games I believe
Probably my main Prime complaint, you're too slow
I do agree with that for late game. My fix would have been putting grapple points everywhere for fast travel late
give me run at some point.
Would've made some of the backtracking a lot better
Too many doors for shinespark
You can boost around as a ball
and verticality
That was probably their idea of running
O no, I mean it wouldn't work at all. Samus would be leaping over mountains
This game needed cryptic, staticky, audio logs to convey the story.
I love the tongue in cheek logs about the morph ball
you don't want too much momentum in a first person platformer. it'd get much harder to control. but more fun movement options would've been nice late game.
I had enough trouble with Shinespark in Dread
That whole section was my favourite section of scans
I do think playing The Outer Wilds has impacted how I view the âstory through scanâ nature of the narrative
I gotta say I understand why people vote for short games every time... none of the games I've played so far have been TERRIBLY long but even a cool 20 hours can be stressful to get through in 30ish days - especially if you're also taking time out for GOTW, or you have like... other games to play that aren't GOTX, for some strange reason
Metroid at 12 hours was infinitely more engaging than Metal Slug and much more than 6x as engaging as Kirby
You're just not getting much out of those very short games for GOTM
Aaaaaaand done
The advice you lot gave about running through the jumping colum and powerbombing was good advice.
Didnât find the final boss anywhere near as bad as the ||omega pirate||
IâŚâŚ have questions about whether the morality of the space pirates is actually much worse than what is expected
I do wish Iâd front loaded more and not been in such a panic to finish before the deadline
Just got the grappling beam
I mean I agree but if you just want to get points or keep a streak going, the short games are gonna chew up less time
@gusty meteor is on a 4 month completion streak!
Starting to doubt il finish but will continue pass months end. Enjoying the game a lot
i'll be real bummed when the day comes that all 3 GOTM are a total chore
Next month you mean
Only month with all games over 10 hours
policenauts should be a light 10 hours though. Mostly just clicking through and reading
I have a total soft spot for Policenaughts the first 10 minutes have more character than 99% of games
Done, I can see why people adore this game. Was mid for me. The metroid games have never really resonated with me. More of a Castlevania person tbh.
After replaying it, and I'm ready to be lynched...
I can confirm I prefer 3d metroid to 2d metroid
Don't ask me why it just clicks more with me
I've never even finished a 2d Metroid
I made it to the ||omega pirate|| at lunch today, but I ran out of time and have to abandon the fight. I think I'm going to have to go get some more ammo before I try again. Then it sounds like its time for me to go artifact hunting, but I think I'm going to make it
Kraid is why 2D Metroid is
I wish there were more scifi 2d metroidvanias in general. I loved axiom verge
Hey thatâs cool. I donât like 2D Metroid too much and really quite like MP so multiple people think theyâre different enough
Super bomb his feet
It's like super mario in 3d compared to 2d. Sure the 2d ones are fun, but 3d just hits different
3D mario you can run in. Same with 2D Metroid.
I did this with the 1 super bomb I had. Then a little later I also ran out of missles, and tried to limp by on missles dropped by the little bad guys. I didn't understand that I also needed to ||use the x ray visor to do damage while he was recharging|| so I wasted a lot of ammo. Oh well, it was my initial attempt and tonight I think he should go down pretty easy with a bit more ammo and having a strategy
You need a 3rd person 3d Metroid
You can easily get by with just charged plasma shots. Super missiles do more damage, but it's not a huge difference. I didn't bother with super missiles

Twin stick shooter Metroid when
prime hack or Switch game
I meant like top down twin stick
Right outside grapple hook and of course I used my power bombs
-_-
Do I even really need it to beat game? I'd rather not look for a missile room/ship and traverse back
Yes unfortunately
You can go grab the Xray in the meantime but either way ya gotta come back for it
The big bad guy that tripped me up at lunch time went down in like 2 minutes when I had ammo and knew how to damage him. I decided I didnât care too much about deciphering artifact clues and looked up what rooms they are in. Just need 5 more, and theyâre all in magmoor and phendrana
omega pirate is a dick
Super bomb
I don't like holding A to charge my weapon, pressing B to jump and pressing Y to shoot missiles, all while holding L to lock on and moving left stick to strafe
Map A to the trigger or play the remake where you can use either
the super bombs act like they hurt it but they DON'T DO SHIT
You have to place the bomb at his knees and it takes away all his armor. If your fast you can kill him less than 90 secs
How do you have them mapped? I did A bottom, B left and then I flipped x and y for the charge shots so Y right and X top. It works pretty well for me
Children may yearn for the mines, but I'm not a fan.
Though that underwater section slaps
Got X-ray visor (also the wavebuster and couple artefacts with the help of a guide). Think I'm actually going to beat this one in time.
Honestly the mines and especially the mushrooms, sucked arse
Maybe sucked arse is too far, weâre a mile away of the joy of the underwater frigate
I am psyched to get home and grind out the last bit of this game. Maybe defeat it tonight but def tomorrow will be done
the odin 2 battery life is fantastic man... I think I've played the entirety of metroid prime in 2 charges
I actually had them mapped to A bottom, B right, X left, Y top. So charging the weapon was on bottom but missiles on top. Terrible. Finally realized my mistake yesterday and swapped A/B which is much smoother, though I think yours would be even better.
Not sure if I love or hate the fact that they make you backtrack through the whole world to find these artifacts...
I think I love it, yeah. Helpful hints in-world, plus so much of the game is about exploration and discovery, what better way to get that than to re-discover all the places youâve been before, with tons of new gear and shortcuts. Plays up the power fantasy for sure.
I wouldnât say I loved it, but I expected to hate it and I didnât
Artifact hunting was surprisingly fun, I was dreading it as well
But when it actually happened I did enjoy it
It surprised me how much the lava rooms are set up to exploit your further abilities to backtrack quickly, with spider tracks and graple hooks, but most of the other areas just benefit from the jump
I wish more were like that.
Shoulda been hella grapples imo
Grappling hooks make every game better
They're like the best thing about Terraria
GOOD NEWS, I intend to nominate Tenchu one month
You should. c:
Did a whole bunch
Maybe roll back your yuzu client
Just take my screenshot and edit it, you deserve it
Dam lol don't know what's worse. Losing the save or the fact that I went out of my way to buy snacks and drinks to grind tonight
Was looking forward to it
Ahh well
Ugh that sucks.
I just finished. I think I fall with the majority. This is a good game, but I don't think its an all time great. I prefer 2D metroid. 64% in 12:42. Didn't go out of my way to find any upgrades, never felt like I needed more health or ammo except against the first time against the omega pirate when I came in with only a single super bomb and wasted my missles. Combat was a bit too easy, but it could be that I was playing with twin stick controls (played Trilogy on primehack on steam deck)
I am glad I only lost one save in my retro handheld life.
The last two bosses kinda dragged on. I think the closest comparison to this game I've played is Powerslave, and I may have liked that one better because the combat actually has some hard parts
I would 100% agree with this.
Itâs in the top ten GameCube games for me
But there is not a lot of competition there tbh
Letâs aim for pikmin game in the future
Never tried Pikmin once, but I'm willing
Pikmin is good
There are 620 video games on GameCube.
And how many are Billy Hatcher
ONE?
MP was a lot better than the last Gamecube only game we played.
Which was that?
Luigi's Mansion
That one was controversial
Pikmin is fun.
Love that game but there was definitely a split
I think this is my least favorite GameCube game that Iâve played, but Iâve only played a very select few (Wind Waker, Mario Sunshine, Luigiâs mansion, Twilight princess if you count that I think is all that Iâve played for more than an hour)
Oh yeah Luigi mansion didnât age as well
I liked Luigiâs mansion
Ah man Iâm sorry this didnât work for you
3ds port was okay
Ah got it, you live in opposite world
I liked it quite a bit actually, it just has very stiff competition amongst the few other GC games Iâve played
That sympathy quickly turned to antipathy
I like Prime more LM.
I still canât get into sunshine
My enjoyment from Sunshine comes from the controls
Try really getting into just moving Mario around
Luigi's Mansion won GotM in October 2022.
As soon as they took away the fludd in the first cave I was like nope
LM starts strong by the end it's just oh let me chase this ghost with 500HP around for an hour
I don't love those levels
Iâll try it again on switch I think. Itâs sitting on my shelf
But they're not the majority of the game
Now that Iâm thinking about it, Luigiâs mansion is the only actual GameCube game Iâve played. I played Wind Waker HD, sunshine in the Mario 3d all stars collection, twilight princess on wii and Wii U, and MP via the trilogy on Wii
Boo chases are annoying, I'll give you that
They didn't have much for the game so they needed some padding to make it feel a bit longer
Things like that really drop a game down to me.
I'm more lenient toward game with high highs and low lows
There are so many games, I want one to give me something special
As for prime, prime 2 is not as enjoyable for me right now. Maybe Iâm playing it too close to beating the first one
Go play Gun and then come back or Black.
dunno how the first two are but watching my kid play LM3 it seems pretty tightly tuned
I think the later games fixed a lot of it. Frist game was meh.
any game in 6th gen. that has questionable controls always falls in how good the game is.
I was so done with it after the unforgivable giant boo fight. Hate that game.
How many games have you been this harsh on
Because you're usually pretty positive
I am, usually. I think that one is the one Iâm most harsh on. Perfect dark is up there too.
why does Magmoor feel kind of like just a place you pass through to get somewhere else
it is way too cool for that shit
(inb4 it gets expanded later)
I recognize prime is probably a good game, but it feels like it was just made to annoy me personally. A lot of my complaints and issues are praised by critics and others, so itâs just clearly not my game. I donât think I was harsh on this one though.
So, perfect dark, NARC, and unholy knight are probably the other ones.
One of those game is an unholy mess and the other is recognized as a meme bad game
So just two actual games then
Two that probably donât deserve it, but I canât change the way I feel. lol.
It's fine to critique games, taste is subjective
I think I'm close to alone on thinking DOOMRPG sucked
Aww, I really enjoyed that one. lol. I mean, it was bad, but I liked what they were able to do with it. It was novel and I did enjoy it.
I might have been too harsh because I was really on team Boktai
But playing it on something besides a mobile phone made it really clear how limited it was
TCG2
I played it after so much talk about in the server and I would agree
Oh yeah, how could I forget that one. Itâs my eternal game.
I think thatâs more on the card game being bad than the video game though. Any video game adaptation of it will score poorly by me.
It doesn't. Still an awesome area. The music and atmosphere make it an easy favorite though. Take out Magmoor and you lose very little in the way of game structure, but it would lose impact
fuck, I got dumped out into the frigate site and I can't back up to where I was
if I want to take the other exit into the Tallon Overworld from the Ruins, do I actually have to walk through that entire fucking ruin again
fuck it. I can't be assed. I'm just going to the next thing. this is bullshit
I have like eight energy tanks and 95 missiles. whatever's up there I probably don't need it badly enough to take a half a goddamn hour walking back
Which relic?
Yeah the fakeout impressed me.
The one on top of the tower is a dick, and I had to ask for help
So here my thing about the questionable morality of Metroid prime.
We find out in the last battle that || the source of the phazon is Metroid prime||
But since phazon only occurs due to that specific ||metroid|| it must mean that phazon is either || a waste product of metroids or an actual part of a Metroidâs internals||
Since the space pirates were feeding phazon || to metroids||
This must mean that they were either || feeding Metroid waste to Metroids or feeding Metroid internals to Metroids. Theyâre either making them cannibals or making them eat their own excrement.||
Either way itâs really disgusting
I might have thought about this too much
I'm not sure if it's confirmed, but I think the ||Metroid Prime didn't necessarily come with the Phazon, but rather it was particularly corrupted by it||
Or it could just be a creature that adapted to the phazon
Sequels might bring some more lore to this
The 100% shows more information. It shows something else being corrupted by it. Hence the Prime 2: Corruption
From a pirate log I re-found on the wiki:
|| Space Pirate Data "Impact Crater": Investigations into a possible ingress point for the impact crater continue to meet with failure. The shield of strange energy that protects it is impermeable, and all attempts to tunnel past it have proved fruitless. Our continued futility in this matter is made all the more significant in light of recent life form readings we've discovered emanating from deep within the crater. Analysis of the readings indicates that a massive creature is gestating in there, absorbing enormous amounts of Phazon from the Phazon core at the heart of the impact crater. This discovery makes accessing the crater doubtly important - not only will it open the door to the vast deposits of Phazon within, but it will also lead us to this creature, whatever it may be.||
The implication being that ||the Metroid is absorbing the Phazon, rather than producing it||
All right, two last relics, both in Phendrana. fuck Phendrana and its nonsense
all 12 artifacts get, no guide
(I'm pretty sure I don't have 100% tho)
that was fiendish
oh how did I forget about ||this guy||
fuck it I'll do this later today
I should have no trouble getting the end screen before the article goes up March 1
Not gonna make it, guess. Bugged save soflocked game(
Know the feeling đ˘
How far were you?
A lot of games have repositories for saves if you feel like downloading one near where you were.
(just don't cheat) đĄ
Couple of artifacts and final bosses
Nope, not a fan of that
So the strongest theory is that ||the Leviathan crashed on Tallon IV, spreading Phazon and generally fucking shit up until the Chozo there created the barrier to seal it. Later the Space Pirates arrive, bringing with them Metroids from Zebes/SR388. One Metroid escapes captivity, is drawn to feed on the energy of Phazon, mutates into a form similar to its final form which allows it to pass through the barrier to reach the Phazon Core within the Leviathan. It consumes the core, thereby becoming the new source of Phazon, and mutates into its Prime form. Then, in that ending you saw, it was doomed to be formless after being defeated. So it stole the Phazon Suit from Samus in order to have a way to maintain a stable form for itself.||
||I don't think metroid prime is from the space pirates. Pretty sure the logs say it's been absorbing phazon for hundreds of years||
I thought the scan said that ||it was the source of the phazon||
||The Leviathan only crashed there 50 years prior to the events of the game||
||It absorbed the living Phazon Core and became the new source||
One important thing to be concerned about when dealing with scan lore from Prime is whether or not you're playing the original NTSC Gamecube version or not
The lore was wildly retconned in later releases due to the trilogy
In particular the events that occur in the third game do a lot of hefty shenanigans to make Prime 1 part of a larger overarching plot
I was playing pal for performance reasons, but I admit most logs I just skimmed
Scanning data was from remastered
Yeah no I wasn't disagreeing with you
Ah ok, that explains some things
You're correct that it says that
I was just pointing out how confusing it can be sometimes
I played the original Gamecube release for years so I always have to double check for retcons myself
Like I think the original explanation for ||Prime having beam armor is that it was captured by the pirates at some point and in its escape it stole some of their beam armors that they were developing for the wave/ice/plasma/power troopers||
Which naturally doesn't fit with the modern version where they couldn't breach the barrier at all
I plan on beating this but it ain't happening today so I'm going to challenge myself to finish it off before we see MP2 nominated at some point
I've just gotta make the run back up to the ship and then I can enter the temple for the final segment of the game, so I should be able to finish tonight
I really went from "I'm gonna be the first completion for the month" to "I'm gonna take this slow and really enjoy the experience" to "I'm going to wait until the last fucking second to actually finish things up"
I'm at like 90% item completion, thought about consulting a guide to track down the last 10% but I think I'm fine with just finishing normally
MEGA RIP for the person who had a corrupt save the other day, really grateful to have save states on these titles for exactly that reason
i can confirm this is high up there on one of the best games ive ever played. tbh im not a big FPS player so this game and Fallout 3 are the only 3d "shooting" games ive beaten. it was great
Came here to rage against this one
Yes! Very frustrated that I was RIGHT THERE
lol this spoiler tag
yep
Metroid Prime down, just waiting for the credits to clear
I don't know if I'm going to bother to go back and 100%
I was at 88% before beating the end guy
six mins hurry up
Wait, they're getting posted in six minutes?
I snapped some pictures of the scene before the credits, so here goes
oh!
GG everyone. I had a lot of fun hanging out and talking about Prime.
Love the game, loved the discussion. Made the month for me
I am lurker but I enjoyed reading this channel
Mildly disappointed that I'm not going to get it finished in time but I will finish it up over the coming weeks inbetween other GOTX for March
Well I had enough missles to just go ahead and beam combo the fuck out of that spidery bastard, now just the easy fight left to go
Yeah I used the super missiles anytime it was vulnerable to power, but I'm not a big fan of the other charge combos
Just a couple more artifacts and I cna finish this thing up
I like the fact that wavebuster aims itself but it does chug through missles like nothing else. Ice spreader is super solid though. Flamethrower doesn't need to exist.
is it the phendrana ones
yep, they're pretty sneaky on these ones
Found em all, let's wrap this damn thing up already
Right behind you
Just took care of the Omega Pirate. Was dreading the fight but in the end folded the guy like an omelette in two cycles with the strats given here.
AHHHHH dammit I'm still missing one
I found the ultimate weakness of metroids.
86% in 10:28 not too bad for a casual run
Not bad at all.
Done with the mines. Dug up a guide to make sure that I don't have to backtrack there ever again.
Welp im gonna throw in the towel in this one I think. I love the game (and even the artifacts I was grouchy about earlier were cool enough that they won me over) but Iâm so tired and with 2 artifacts and boss battles left I think I just wonât be having fun by the end of it. Iâd rather enjoy this games ending than push through for the point. That said, super grateful for this club because Iâve wanted to play and finish this game for years and itâs been a blast and I think Iâll finally finish it in a couple days. Good luck yâall!
these boss battles are bullshit
I'm gonna get it done to keep my streak going but I understand this for sure. All the good parts happen before the ending.
Oh yeah I totally get that too. I think if I was on the boss battles Iâd push through but thereâs just enough more running around than I have the energy for tonight. I made it back to the artifacts temple and scanned the clues for the final 2 artifacts (I had missed them earlier) and then saved in Samusâs ship, which is always my favorite place to end a sitting of this game. Consistently been blown away by how great this remaster looks and runs on the switch and the vibes are just sooooo good. Like the music everywhere is just the best.
I don't really have the time or patience for this final boss fight... it's gonna be really unpleasant to push through this
74%, 11:10. Very done with Metroid games at this point having replayed 4 of them in the last 6ish months, but I still wanna get through Dread too.
Artefacts all done, now off to the end
As a final comment for this game, I have to say that it definitely does not give the same feeling as the 2D games, but it brings something else to the table. While 2D makes your feel like a badass speeding through everything, Prime really captures an atmosphere that few games can replicate. You feel absolutely stranded on a hostile planet, but you can stop to enjoy the beautiful atmosphere of the world that once was
I agree. I never got the same sense of atmosphere from zero mission, for example
Fusion and Dread are probably the closest in 2D, or the Zero Suit section in Zero Mission, but all of them are still more combat focused
That atmosphere and ambience is low key underrated
i found it at times cathartic after a long day of work to be able to kick back and be isolated on this world with creatures puzzles and backtracking...:D
Made it in time.
The final boss was pretty easy compared to Ridley.
89% in 12:22
Though I shamelessly used a guide towards the end.
gg
I had way more difficulty with everything after Ridley than Ridley
Super missiles stitched Ridley right up
people have been remarking on how well this game held up
I didn't enjoy it quite as much as I did as a teenager, but I have to agree
I think the Gamecube generation is when graphics really just became Good Enough
Like Gamecube games look mildly dated
that's it
graphics have been a solved problem for over 20 years
Congrats!
Nicely done
Still busy with Metroid Prime and at the Omega Pirate battle. What a bastard hahah.
The mushrooms bit prior to the battle was a challenge as well
If itâs any help, I found those the worst two bits
I was testing yuzu last night and tried out remastered, and there's some significant game play changes not just controls. Holding fire shoots a 3 round burst before charging up
Finally killed Omega Pirate. Tried but couldnt get the power bomb trick to work so opted to focus killing him with super missiles. The ads he spawned were annoying AF, but ignored them
Now to collect 9 of the remaining artifacts and then the final boss battle i think? I am sitting at 15h playtime so its going slow by hltb standards
this was what i did too, the fact I couldn't get the power bomb right (skill issue, i know) might have been why he was my least favourite boss
is there a way to get primehack on android? I'd like to play prime 3 portable but the way the camera controls is hell
I think itâs windows only
PrimeHack is PC-only (Windows, Linux, and Mac). Android is not supported (even though requirements are listed)
Dang
It was designed around using a keyboard and mouse, so I canât say Iâm surprised Android isnât supported
android has Dolphin if you want to play it.
Yeah but prime hack has mouselook camera which means no delay when panning
I wonder if there's a cheat code or something
Should I chat here or in the Flashback thread?
Either is fine. May want to tell people who are also playing so your discussion is centralized.
Think I'm going to do this for my GOTM, with the remastered version on switch
SAMESIES!
I don't remember it being this hard last time I played it. I must be used to save states these days because dying at a boss and restoring way back at a save point is annoying me lol
I am struggling with that too lol
I think I might put this one on the back burner until I finish my OoT and Chrono playthroughs and hope to squeak this one out in the 2nd half of the month
CT is on my list too this month, but gonna push through this one first. I think I'm actually enjoying it more now that I'm further in. The first few hours felt a bit like aimless wandering, but some background story narrative is kicking in.
One QoL thing I really wish it had though is the ability to set a waypoint on the map and see it when you're moving to another area. Or some type of warp/fast travel.
Does Dolphin Prime Hack have that?
Prime Hack is a fork of Dolphin with improved controls for the Metroid Prime games. As far as I know there are no modifications to the games themselves
Still making good progress. The occasional aimless wandering back across maps is still my main frustration. Too many times I have backtracked 20-30 minutes to check out a door or something I now have the tool to open, only to find out there is another blocker immediately after it that I still can't open and I wasted the trip.
I generally avoid guides whenever possible, but it really seems necessary here unless you don't mind potentially spending hours wandering
Again fast travel would have been so nice to fix this problem
There is a "hey dummy you might want check this area out" thing that pops up occasionally, but not sure why it triggers only sometimes
All I can advise is to get the artifacts along the way. Don't be like me and think you're about done but you only have 4 out of the 12 and have to do some tedious crap
Oh boy, I have.. 4 artifacts
Have fun...
The clues are easy enough. But I wish I made a list of how many were in each section so I didn't travel so much back and forth
I'm using a guide that breaks artifact locations out into sections, I've had enough wandering in this game
I'm at the final boss. The boss battles in this game are so stressful, I hate how they ramp up in difficulty the more you damage them. Like it always feels like the last 20% of their life bar is so much harder then the first 80%
And finished.
I think I didn't quite enjoy this as much as I remembered back in the day on GameCube, but still definitely a great game. Also don't remember it being this tough, but that might be me getting slower or playing it on cramped switch controls. I just wish they would have added a few QoL features in the remaster to reduce the aimless wandering a bit, that would have made it even better.
Oh btw, protip to anyone playing the remaster: it's possible to still do a spring ball jump even after obtaining morph ball bombs (they use the same button). To do it you literally have to shake your switch, even if you're using dual stick controls. It doesn't seem like this is documented anywhere or if it is I couldn't find it. It can be really helpful to do jumping bomb drops onto bosses and stuff especially Omega Pirate
Interesting, I wonder if this can be done on emulated devices
