#Metroid Prime
1 messages Ā· Page 2 of 1
So for the phazon mine part
|| took me forever to realize I needed to use xray vision to see invisible platforms in the Metroid quarantine area :/ ||
At least running everywhere to find where to go next helped clean up some upgrades
You mean the bowling alley? I think itās called ||hall of elders||
Yeah I like how the statues just yeet samus
Finally
Beat that ||tyranid looking mf ||
The controls make it hard to shoot super missiles so it took awhile
You have to use R to shoot if you're gonna use super missles
Unfortunately the control scheme of this game was heavily built around the Gamecube layout, so pressing Y from the A button was like right there
In remastered you can swap r and x from change beam and missle
That way you can just pivot your thumb a little bit to fire a super missle
Found that after the boss
I did it. Finished the game!
As for my thoughts on it:
|| The game was fairly good. A lot of it still held up today todayās standards. The 12 artifacts just felt like padding though and the last two bosses (meta Ridley and Metroid prime) were kind of disappointing. There was some clunk but I enjoyed it. I know I played it as a kid but I canāt remember beating it so itās nice to check it off finally ||
Final time 11:14
Might go back and 100% the items but slowly
Just glad it wasnāt Warioland 4
I'm not a fan of the Ridley fight as it's a lot of waiting when he's flying in the air, but what did you not like about the final boss? It felt suspenseful for me
The first phases of it was fun
I didnāt like waiting around for puddles
And it only had one attack basically in the final phase which was countered by jumping
The || title drop being the final boss || was cool
Congratulations! š
Done with metal slug and Kirby, ready to give this one a go! Maybe if I'm lucky I can burn through it this weekend
Metroid Prime is a reasonably meaty game
not like, JRPG-meaty, but it'll keep you busy for a bit
It's 10ish hours right? If I have a free weekend it may be doable
You'll probably be pretty busy those two days
I'm playing guitar for a four hour event where I have to be there for a song at the beginning and the end and then have the entire time between free on Saturday so that'll at least give me time to get through a good chunk of it
Hltb has it at 14ish hours
Well the two completion screenshots were like 9:22 hours and my 11:14
I have played prime beforehand and I used a guide near the end
Worse boss spoilers : ||if you donāt count the parasite queen, by far the worse boss is the rock talus guy imo ||
There's a bowling alley?
Worst as in least favorite?
That's the DS spinoff that came out after the success of Metroid Pinball. The third is the best in the series, Metroid Shot Put
Yeah
Man do I love Metroid Prime Pinball on the DS! Easily my all time favorite pinball video game, though The Pinball of the Dead for the GBA is a pretty close second.
This is why Tales is really Terrible. There is no Metroid bowling game. There is only a single room in Prime where ||Samus|| gets treated like a bowling ball
Yeah I figured. I'm surprised there's a pinball game tbh Metroid seems like one of those IPs that Nintendo doesn't spread too thin
But a whole series of Metroid sports games...
A man can dream
Yeah, there absolutely is a pinball game
If you like pinball video games, itās worth checking out
I just did too! ^_^
I could not for the life of me figure out how to do a super missile
because I still had the wave cannon equipped
I did this exact thing, if itās any help. Assumed it was a Metroid thing and I had missed out by not playing the previous games
In the 2D games super missles are an alternate mode for the missle firing (or overwrite missles entirely in Fusion and Dread). Prime is the only one that has them as a beam combo instead
The wavebuster is probably my favorite beam combo
Ice spreader and flamethrower are super meh
fuckin rock boss
There's gotta be a "rock and roll" joke in here somewhere.
I like Thardus
Same!
Ice spreader was useful for the freeze but yeah flamethrower was kinda worthless
Plasma already did so much damage it wasnāt really needed
Yeah
I wandered around lost for an hour until I realized I missed the obvious room where you get space jump.
You can turn up the frequency of the hint system in options on the remastered. Helped a little bit
Huh you are right
Guess playing at 3 am after putting to bed a crying baby does that to you
I played the gc version. I'm pretty sure if you need a hint just go to your ship and save, quit, load your save and it will give you one
Ooh I think Im about to detoxify the water
I could have done this a game-hour ago too
They're all puzzle based, but Flaahgra feels the slowest even though stuff like Thardus is longer
Ok that sounds pretty good. I do like shadow of the Colossus so I'm ok with big puzzle bosses. I guess i just wasn't expecting it to ||knock its solar plates back into place||
I didn't have much difficulty with Flaahgra.
Just a matter of side dodging around the arena and stunning him at the right time.
I could've sworn that last time I played Metroid Prime I was able to jump on top of the mechanical flamethrower boss but I wasn't able to this time. š¤
I recently fought Flaahgra and was also annoyed by this, it took me awhile to see the animation of them doing this because I was quickly trying to blast all the triggers. Took me like two-three times going back and forth going wtf before I noticed it happening.
That's why you can attack it even though it doesn't damage it
Yeah I figured that out, I didn't have trouble after I noticed the animation; but having the first two triggers being on the opposite sides of the arena doesn't make it very apparent that you'll see that animation. I thought it was time-based at first rather than stun-based, because I wasn't noticing the animation and thought I was just running too slowly.
I decided to give the Wii version a try. Does it seem like Samus' movement is faster in the Wii version compared to the GameCube version to anyone else?
Not sure but it might just be the fact that the gun isnāt static so you donāt have that point of reference anymore
They did make some QoL stuff like morph ball jump in the Wii release so maybe they changed speed as well
Hereās a list of changes between all versions. I donāt see anything listed about speed
Hmm, weird. š¤
Noice
Damn it, where is that 4th symbol in the Watery Hall?
And of course I found it right after I asked. š
Man, the motion controls in the Wii version of this game make its gameplay feel WAY better.
So much smoother and more fluid.
Well yeah, of course mouse and keyboard is always going to be better, even for light gun games.
Well prime hack has controller support too
But for og hardware, the Wii version is the best
I'd say that Wii remote + nunchuck is the second best way to play, even compared to using dual analog sticks, one for movement and the other for aiming.
Third best would be motion controls with the Joycons.
So far one of the memorable boss for me
Just gt the ice beam. Really slow but sure for me.
It's insane how much faster I'm making progress in the Wii version of this game compared to the GameCube version.
Is there any point in collecting the artifacts sooner rather than later?
Well it seems that my next destination is the Magmoor Caverns or whatever they're called.
That's a spicy floor
Idk with you guys here, but my relationship with Metroid like love and hate
I enjoyed Symphony of The Night better
But I think it's a better Metroid game since it's an FPS
And I don't have to turn back so much
Eh, I enjoyed Aria of Sorrow more than SotN, and Super Metroid even more than that. I'm not sure how I'd rank Metroid Prime 1 yet.
Aria yes, in terms of feature, has lots to enjoy
But I don't play Aria as GOTM
SoTN is what I played last year
And is it just me? I hate the ball mechanism
Ballboarding at its best
I love using the Morph Ball in Metroid Prime because it seems to be the fastest way to move through the game.
Those White/Purple/Red doors tho
Jeebus, you are just flying through this game! š®
You disgust me. Don't acknowledge that
Man, I wish I had more time to chat about this game, but it's super busy month for me
Been to phazon mines last night, got the super bomb, have to admit that it got a bit annoying, knowing that there's 12 artifacts and I haven't gotten one in a long time, feels like I'm making no progress
This is why I've been using walkthru
The 6 hrs longplay
But I feel sick and not really explorative
Also this games reminds me why I love emulation, not only it works great with mouse, but I've been referencing gamecube longplay (the same 6h video), and boy does the door opening is so slow on gamecube, like there's a hidden loading screen, would drive me mad to play it like that
Got the 4th (I think) artifact and the 5th looks like it needs a āmore than double jumpā jump to get. Got the ice beam, just trying to work out where to go next. Hopefully this means Iām in the second half of the game
Still sweeping the whole Tallon for that bloody missiles. Damn you, my crappy memory and lack of attention!
I tried motion controls with joycons and it was kind of miserable. Maybe I'm just out of wii practice. I've been using dual stick but with gyro, and it feels pretty good. More precise than the right stick is on its own.
I think Iām old. I hate motion controls and gyro
Also never grew up with a Wii, so no nostalgia. I bought one a few years ago and thought controlling stuff with motion sucked and stopped using it instantly
||Omega Pirate down|| and got the ||phazon suit||
I saw someone use motion controls to speedrun Metroid Prime Remastered.
Nintendo definitely overdid it with motion controls on the Wii. Gyro for games like breath of the wild and modern fps is perfect for me though.
I got to ||Meta Ridley|| late last night. I guess thatās what Iām up to today
dad, can you take a break so I can play animal crossing?
Oh well
Other m wasnāt that bad
The gameplay was pretty fun if not Metroid at all, but that story is the most pathetic thing to ever exist
Here we go, Prime Time
Whelp, I sold my Odin 2 today since my bad arm would have no more of it, so now tomorrow I'm gonna have to pick up Metroid Prime: Remastered for the Switch to play in docked mode and start the whole game over from the beginning. I had just gotten the ||Ice Beam|| too so I think I was pretty far along in the game >_<
That's absolutely what it is, a hidden loading screen. Yeah I used to get so damned impatient at those doors
Just need the first two artifacts
Somehow missed those and got all the others first
Those are EASY
Do you have the clues?
I think itāll be funny to get the first one last
Ah Iām following a guide so no clues needed
The tower artifact is the only one that was super annoying to figure out. You should be good with the first two
Been busy, need to catch up
What device is that
Ayaneo air
I got to the part before the final boss ||where you climb up the weird internal and Metroids are constantly attacking|| it made me say, I hate this damn game too many times
That part really ticked me off for a long time
What is did was || run to the map room then go outside. Before jumping on the last few platforms wait until a Metroid latches on and drop a power bomb || that should clear it up enough for platforming
I had to stop for the day and mentally reset
I was doing that for a bit but ran out of power bombs. The missile station not refilling those is annoying
You can go back to the ship for full refill, annoying but meh
I finally got it. This final boss seems easier than ||ridley||
Overall it was fun and I enjoyed most of it. I wouldnāt have beaten it without GOTM though because I wouldnāt have the patience for some of the stuff. I know itās the genre, but damn some of the backtracking was getting to me
Which boss was your favorite or at least the least annoying?
I think ||the plant|| was fun. Most of the boss fights were annoying haha
There are not enough save rooms on these maps.
I died on the way to thermal visor. That was an annoying run back. Especially because there are so many scans.
I had just beat || thardus || didnāt go back and save. Died shortly after. That was fun
I have fun in Metroid games until I die, then I'm so frustrated with everything I have to do again because there wasn't a save room.
I think the only reason I got all far at I did in Metroid Dread was because I played on Easy mode, where it uses a checkpoint system when you die instead of sending you back to the last save room.
I actually like Thardus. He's always on my mind, lol
Me too. I feel like I'm supposed to have more power ups though...
Ikr?
Well, if two of us feel that way, maybe we're doing ok
I actually liked Thardus more as a challenge than Flaaghra as well. It took me a few tries to beat Thardus but it felt more satisfying to learn than the the one try I need to beat Flaaghra, but seemed to take overly long
^I mean that Flaaghra took overly long
I actually kinda like it, but the ball part kinda annoying for me
If you think these bosses were subpar , oh boy just wait until Metroid prime 2
What?
Bosses in Prime 2 supa cool
The little ||powerup guardians bosses|| can sometimes just be kinda meh, but all the ||Temple Guardians|| as well as ||Dark Samus|| are all great fights, top tier Prime bossing
I arguably think that while Prime 1 does classic Metroid more overall justice, nailing all the trademark classic beats of the series, that Prime 2 does a better job at truly creating a frightening, isolated, and oppressive atmosphere throughout that makes it very compelling. I wouldn't say I like it better than Prime 1 because it's kind of apples and oranges in a good way that keeps the trilogy from feeling samey.
Boost Guardian... ugh
Hooray for Amazon delivering at ungodly hours of the morning! I restarted Metroid Prime, on the Switch this time, over breakfast and have already gotten down to the Tallon overworld ^_^
It's a very nice looking remaster and I'm really digging the hybrid control scheme option that gives you classic GameCube controls but with the option to do motion aiming with ZR. Great stuff!
Got space jump last night. I hate this game, but can't put it down.
How far after ice beam is space jump? Is it the next upgrade?
Wtf I dunno, I don't have ice beam yet!?
Uh... Same here
I wonder who's sequence breaking
Certainly not me.
Is the game that linear?
I think you may have missed the space jump boots! If ya need a hint, ||go back to Tallon Overworld and look around for half pipe configurations||.
Dan has got to have space jump. There's zero way he got to the Ice Beam without it.
Space Jump otherwise known as Double Jump.
Yeah a bit less exciting than in the 2D entries
Still a total game changer for mobility in this one though
Just got grapple beam
It's getting harder and harder
Choices are to empty your missiles or risking your health
At least it's not as disappointing as screw attack. I can't think of a better way to do it in 3D though
I wish I could go back to being new at this game to discover the challenges again. I can't think of what is hard in this game at this point. I barely even used missiles. Charge beam all day every day
Hardest part for me is figuring out where I'm supposed to backtrack to
Way easier in a 2d environment. I just got the double jump and i have no idea how this is going to help me
I like how @eager pulsar came in here to unsettle everyone's day and... oop here he is
Yeah like Raven says, Iām confusing the upgrades. Iāve got the double jump but the next artifact seems to need an even bigger jump
Itās what I do
Lol. I was gonna say "came in to unsettle everyone's day and then disappeared and refused to answer further questions"
Anyway chances are if there's a bigger jump you need to make, a certain fourth visor may actually highlight the way forward
Bigger jump? Perhaps you arenāt looking at it right
Ahhhhh
Basically ||im underwater and the exit I need isnāt reachable with my current upgrades||
Ah
This was my first thought, too, but yeah, it sounds like itās the second one since thereās water
Hence me asking about the gravity boots not realising theyāre the same as the double jump
Way down deep in the very depths of the Phendrana Drifts there's a bunch of creepy ass little electrical dudes in the water guarding a very impotant upgrade
They are my least favorite enemy in the game
Because they scare the Hell out of me
I think thatās where Iām heading next? Passed the ||ice beam door at the end of the research facility?||
Oh fuck, I can jump as a ball, how long have I had that?
Since you got bombs
Damn, and here I was bomb jumping since then like a heathen

If it makes you feel any better, there was no ball jump in the original Gamecube release, so the game is entirely built around bomb jumping
They didn't add the jump till the Wii release of the Trilogy, and then carried that into the remaster
Ok, I played some way through the GC original on OG hardware, so Iām gonna blame it on that
I wonder if the people who made this played jumping flash
If the camera panned down on the double jump like it does in JF these platforming sections would work a lot better
Youāre not wrong theyāre annoying AF. Still better than the ||lights out bit|| in the research facility
Uh oh
Yee haw, all missile expansions in hand! For everyone interested, ||Watery Hall and Dynamo, have no clue how I missed that ones||. Now for power bombs, luckily I missed only two
Just got the wave beam, still don't have the ice beam lol
Yeah ice is pretty far into the game
Is it? Good info. Iām just waiting for the fire beam
Plasma is a fun one to get
Nice little spiderball puzzle
Was pretty nice in the original GC release if you did the Ice Beam Before Flaaghra sequence break then all you needed to grab was the Varia suit and Space jump and you could cheat your way straight to the Plasma Beam way before most of your upgrades
Although it required a pretty precise scan dash off a stalagmite that could take ages
Scan dash?
Yeah tricky little trick they figured out how to do. It's a glitch that got patched in later releases
I'm playing the GC version but gosh I feel like it'll take longer to learn all the speedrun tech than to actually beat the game
I should probably watch one just in case though
Oh it did, you only did the tricks on later runs after you'd practiced for hours
Even in Remaster there's a bomb jump trick you can do to get early Space Jump but it's a real bugger and requires exploiting some dodgy collision detection
A lot of the replay value in Metroid is just figuring out how much you can break the game
For GC version, it does. Hold B when jumping. I don't know about Wii version. Switch has an option to look down on jump too, but it's not on but default
That's the ||ghosts|| or ||space pirates in dark|| for me. It was surprising how not scary they are as an adult veteran of the game
Yeah see I'm terrified of stuff being underwater. Dunno why, some combination of thalassophobia and submechanophobia that makes water levels in almost any game a nightmare š
Oh I see. It's slight but yeah I think you're correct
I think itās a fact that most water levels in any game are awful .
Ok the part immediately after you get the wave beam is incredible. Straight through several areas, no backtracking, ||firefights with space pirates|| and putting all your abilities to use in a well designed 3d environment
I'm hoping more of the game is like this
Oh and plot reveals too. Woohoo
I'm really sick of the ball boarding
Idgaf about missile upgrades anymore, lol
I had enough missiles
How many do you have?
130 around that
I followed the walkthrough faithfully and never really skipped anything
Around 3.43 now, just a few more hours and few more collectibles
Ball boarding messed with my mental health, lol. I ended up screaming around
Just gt the power bomb, I think you know where the missile is dirn
Around an artifact
The amount of missles you have equates to how fast you can beat the second to last boss.
How many do I need?
I finished with 105 and the second to last boss was kinda annoying but doable
130 should be fine
I'm really bummed out about the ball boarding
You need 75% for the longer ending cutscene and 100% for the extra cutscene
But we have YouTube now soā¦.
I got to the penultimate boss with 200 missiles but I think I had something like 145 left when I finished the fight
Don't think I want the secret ending, lol
Got the ||gravity suit|| letās go, the water is no longer annoying
Eh, I wouldnāt go that far haha. It still can be
Ok, currently got 4 artefacts (know where 4 more are but need additional upgrades), hopefully that means Iām 2/3 through.
I donāt think the water is ever not annoying. You just move through it faster with the suit.
But ||I can see and move relatively freely|| and that will do me
You don't ever get to walk on water I take it
I mean, it kinda depends how you define āiceā
š
this game rules
Just got through the ||underwater spaceship|| section. Honestly that might be the most beautiful section of the whole game so far
Dang you were right
I think people talking about the annoyingness of water in this game are over reacting a little. Once you have the gravity suit it's only mildly annoying. You jump like twice as high and the enemies are lot easier to kill than flying space pirates
Flying space pirates aren't too bad. Use charged wave beam. It has homing capabilities
I just used ice beam charged to freeze then a missile
Exploration in this game is stupid fun
Just picked up the morph ball bomb upgrades and I'm having a blast running around areas of the map
I think that was the closest finish Iāve ever had in a Metroid game. I had single digit health left
This is me fighting Omega
I donāt remember Omega being so bad, but maybe thatās just because the next boss took about 8 tries
I also had most of the missiles, so maybe that helped
I missed 10 missile upgrades and 2 energy tanks
Oh man
I have to watch the guide carefully
But I'm gonna jump in first, see if I can beat it myself
Some of the missiles in this game are in really non obvious places, so thereās no shame in not getting more than you actually need
I've gotten a bit lost. Reached the magma area, found two elevators, one that leads to || an ice dead end || and one that leads back to the surface, can't figure out how to advance further
Time to back track maybe
Turns out you can just break ice, I'm dumb. Carry on
I just got the wave beam. Died once on the boss and was reminded why I dislike these games.
yeah regular saving is pretty essential... (assuming you're complaining about losing a bunch of progress when dying to a boss.)
i think that the ||boost ball|| has to be one of the cleverest upgrades in any metroid game. the reveal that ||all those funny half-pipe-looking things are actually half-pipes and not only that, but if you mess around with those half-pipes enough by your ship you'll find the double jump...|| just perfect search-action/metroidvania design
Agreed, the thing was, when I started the water, I didnāt know there was going to be relief soon, so the way itās presented fills some players full of (Metroid) dread
Yeah I discovered this yesterday, makes them much easier. A charged ice beam at them when theyāre frozen works too
I can help, I donāt think the magma area is anything other than a pathway to the ice at first. What abilities do you currently have? I think thereās an area near your spaceship you can access once you get where you are?
Damn the artifacts are so well (and randomly imo) hidden, went through longplay and realised I skipped 3 that I could have picked. Time to backtrack
I've done it! Thanks guys. It's one of the bosses that you need to beat, at least once in life
Figured it out, I just assumed you couldn't break ice for whatever reason
Yeah I saw, sorry for not updating the reply
All good
I was going to complain about the game, that's all on me though
The boost ball controls might not be all me. Playing on Prime Hack though so that might be what makes it annoying
Ice beam acquired
@normal dew mad lad using a thinkpad for gotm
Hope you used the red nipple mouse for most of the game
Scrounging around for artifacts is exactly as fun as I remember it being
Where I stopped at and need to push thought to the end.
found the plasma beam. the lead-up was simultaneously the coolest and silliest thing so far in this game.
Wave beam get
I know it's iconic/staple of the series, but the morph ball is just silly. in my head, samus is tucked in a fetal position rolling around everywhere. how she doesn't get dizzy is beyond me.
Dramamine injections
just remember the alien bird species taught her how to do that
because, reasons
No I used a regular mouse
š¦
I actually kinda of like the lock-on feature. Does Prime Hack m&k use lock-on?
am I supposed to have protection against this blue glowing radiation thing before coming down here? the game hint is telling me to go through it.
Definitely donāt walk on the blue glowing radiation thing without protection
This is just general life advice
damn I'm so lost
Probably ahead of me (I think) so can't help there
Just grabbed the wave cannon, which I'm fairly certain is optional
Maybe itās the part where you need a new perspective? For Metroid quarantine area
Yeah, each of the beams has an upgrade. You donāt need them.
Welp, since I'm waiting on a different Bluetooth adapter for PlayStation to be delivered by Amazon tomorrow, maybe I'll take a break from Tomb Raider II to play some more Metroid Prime.
The remaster tomb raider comes out tomorrow
Use your x-ray visor
Spoiler tag
Yeah I know. Problem is that the classic graphics have frame stutters, and I don't know how they handled the difficulty in TR2 and TR3, considering that the Japanese versions are easier.
I'll still play the HD remaster at some point, because playing with the new graphics at 60fps sounds fun.
I got the Boost Ball. c:
Like a cat at 2 a.m!
People are enjoying it but I'm surprised there hasn't been more chatter.
This is probably going to be my GOTY or close to it
Finally got the space jump boots.
Ikr?
Too many people with only a Miyoo Mini maybe
Movement opens up a ton once you have them
Feels like you could go anywhere
Was that the one that is || hidden in the rock pillar in the lava lake room? || that one took me forever as the hint wasnāt that helpful imo
I'm not sure. It required the space jump boots, and it was high up in the room with all of the turrets and whatnot.
Got the Super Missiles. c:
I figured it out. I was approaching the objective from the opposite direction. And then I died on my first attempt of ||giant pirate dude||.
I died after at the ball puzzle. Back to the mine entrance
If my math is correct I have 7 artifacts. The backtracking is becoming infuriating
Do you have to collect all the artifacts to beat the game, or are they just one of the Collectibles?
I'm curious about the artifacts as well. I got the wave beam last night, but haven't found any artifacts, just the area that gives you a bunch of clues
I've picked up one since then, but that's it
Doesn't that area with the clues have an artifact right in the center?
I just got the Wave Beam and I think I have 2 artifacts so far. I got the 2nd one in Magmoor Caverns.
hmmm, if it does I must have missed it. I thought I scanned everything there before I left
The menus are completely unintelligible for me, can't find shit there, doesn't help that half of the primehack supposedly default buttons for keyboard that replace the wii ones, aren't actually what stuff is binded to, even though I haven't changed a thing
Took me a bit to figure out all the menu buttons
I'm just going until I get stuck, and that's worked for me
Necro-ing a bit but I was like that when I was a kid. It wasn't until I grew up that I shed my fear of things like water predators. Dire Dire Docks and Jolly Roger Bay were terrifying stages when I was a kid
They are required
Each time I want to start this something gets in the way . Now my girlfriend, who havenāt touch the switch for months, want to play ring fit adventure lol.
So save states move well between different versions of Dolphin (play store version vs mmjr vs mmjr2)?
Encourage that, health is important
Keeeeybooooard?
Yeah. A save is a save. Just make sure it's in the right place
||big pirate|| is kicking my ass
Yeah took me a few tries too
If you use ||a power bomb after jumping right at its feet|| it should make it go to next phase
Then just || super missile on you find it using xray ||
thanks, that helped. got it on the next try. I also ||ignored the adds and just tried to get as many super missiles in on the first round and did like 90% hp before the pirate rematerialized||
Nice
I went to a water section early and had to spend 5 minutes climbing back up slowly while enemies pulled me off the small platforms
I'm heated
I played most of the game mute but going back through: damn, the music is really good in this game
I've had headphones on the whole time. Great soundtrack
I've been stuck a few times so far. Trying my best not to use guides and figure out where to go myself. It does get tiresome after being stumped for awhile though.
Yeah, I don't hesitate to use a guide when I get stuck in Metroid Prime. It takes too long to backtrack, unlike in Super Metroid where you can zip around the map with shine spark and whatnot.
Actually I'm parallel playing Super Metroid (first time in my life; yeah, I know) and MP feels like a remake of SM but MUCH slower
Don't worry. I did that too. Actually, I did it twice because I REALLY couldn't remember where to go
My feelings exactly.
Thankfully no kraid though in MP
Saves, sure. Saves states are incompatible from one build of dolphin to the next though, let alone version
Unless that changed recently
Oh whoops. I missed them say states instead of save
FPS always on m&kb, that's my religion
I was initially excited for gyro aim but with lock on and headshots not being that important, it hasn't felt that necessary. I guess with kb+m you can turn around faster.
Sacrilege
Speaking of which, when using PrimeHack on PC what do you do for Dolphin to NOT use Keyboard/Mouse? I've switched the controller to Metroid controller and profile to the gamepad and bound all the gamepad buttons but as soon as I launch Metroid Trilogy it just goes RIGHT BACK to K/M
Am I missing a check box or something?
I had to download a xinput controller config from the website
Oh! Glad it's not just me haha
Russ has a guide
I went through that guide but it seemed like it either "just works" or he used K/B
I've figured it out, I had to bind BOTH Gamecube controller AND emulated Wiimote
Not super happy with my binds just yet but I'll tweak as I go
Got a link by chance?
PrimeHack XInput Controller Profile (Wii Version) by jvook
Legend
HOLY TOLEDO this is an unstable mess...
I didn't think my X18S would ever be a smoother experience than my gaming rig lol
Do you mean you have performance issues on PC?
It HATES being switched from full screen to windowed
It runs issue free for me, maybe you went overboard with texture settings, Texture caching can eat up even 32 gb of ram, and stuff like ssaa means the game is rendering on higher resolution and is downsampled to target, so like 8x ssaa is 8 x your target resolution
I had to turn off texture caching cause my 16 gbs weren't enough
Fair enough, more tinkering it would seem
that might be where some stutters are coming from for me
It's perfectly fine, rarely happens, but I was wondering why
Just escaped the first facility with 15 seconds to go
What a rush
I'm getting Returnal vibes from these Chozo Ruins.
Any guides people can point me to? I have been playing for a few hours and beaten one of the big bosses but havenāt gotten any artifacts
So I think Iām missing things
Artifacts are endgame stuff
Youāll get hints for them at the temple location which is locked behind missiles
Donāt worry too much because youāll be backtracking a lot at the end of the game anyways
in the couple places I got stuck I actually found it confusing to look at a guide since guides are sort of written linearly, and if I didn't do things in the guide's order I was even more confused.
so I just wandered until the game started giving me hints. or I asked for help here.
Just played the " Tutorial" on the switch remaster. It's super easy on the switch
Is anyone playing Metroid Prime on RP3+? Any settings recommendations if you are? (This is my first GC game on it.)
Use doplin for handhelds and use the pal rom
Is dolphin for handhelds the same thing as mmjr2?
I was under the impression "Dolphin for Handhelds" was some internal Retroid fork of MMJR

That girlās face appearing when I shoot was cool
I didnāt beat the timer because it took me 8 minutes to understand that I needed to roll so they bring me to the latest save point ⦠before the boss . First time that I see a game that doesnāt automatically save after the boss .
yep, there were a couple times where I backtracked after a boss to a save point instead of progressing
Yeah thatās what I will do from now on . If I ever touch that game again .
I got the super missiles and the thermal visor tonight. Hopefully I make it through before the end of the month.
Just got the Gravity Suit, so now it's time to go do the part of the game that scares the bejesus out of me cause I've always been slightly fearful of being underwater XD
thank you sir!
No problem. š
I usually hate underwater, but this was actually my favourite part of the game so far
Finished. Great to have played it in gotm and I hope we get to play the sequels as well at some point. My final grade is 8.5/10. The game neither surpassed or failed to reach my expectations, it was exactly what I expected it to be, but I see some room for improvement. Boss ranking: Meta Ridley > Flaahgra > Metroid Prime > Omega Pirate > Thardus > Parasite Queen
nice
I'm enjoying this game considerably more now that I've turned my screen brightness up a little.
right?
it's so cozy
I have to specifically not take my ARC to bed if I want to work on the actual GOTX games
Just use lock on targeting with L (or ZL on Switch) to keep your view locked on the plant boss while sideways dash jumping with B to strafe around it and get to the reflectors ^_^
Yeah, I got that. Just seems that I either fatfinger or the boss goes outside the range every now and then that completely throws me out of it. It also seems that I need to scan it first and while the scanning has a lock as well, actually starting it is a whole other process that usually ends with me taking tons of damage.
you don't need to scan it but you'll want to get all the red scans for 100%. The scan progress also stays if you stop so you can scan a bit, dodge, scan a bit etc
Oh shit, that's really useful to know. Going to give it another try tomorrow.
GRAPPLES
For those emulating Metroid Prime Trilogy Wii, are you using OpenGL or Vulcan?
I've never had much trouble with the plant boss. š¤
PrimeHack giving me guff out here š
you're still early enough to switch to primehack or the switch remaster?
yeah thats what im doing. it's a really great remaster honestly
Got super missile, TIL Tallon IV and Zebes are in the same system
The updated twin stick controls is why I did remastered
The og is just fine, but a little clunky by today standards
Thats the original planet from zero mission right?
Yeah
Maybe they don't have intergalactic travel
I think SR388 from Fusion is another system
Yeah i looked it up, prime 3 is in a different solar system
Oh I never played 3
Intresting enough, Earth exists in the lore
"According to the instruction manuals of the Metroid and Super Metroid games, it is the location of Galactic Federation Headquarters.[1][2] The planet was not well depicted until Metroid: Other M and is where humans originated from. Earth is located in the Solar system"
yeah earth and humans do exist in the lore. samus is originally human but got imbued with chozo dna or soemthing
Was she born on earth though?
Only mention of Samusā birthplace according to the wiki is in the manga
K-2L a mining colony
So basically part velociraptor
Is spider ball about halfway? Really loving it so far, kinda wish I could dash outside of being locked on but that's just my add
Alright, I think Iām done. I tried giving this another shot, but itās just really trying my patience. Just spent an hour exhausting all my open paths I can see after getting the morph ball and Iām stuck. Found the artifact of truth and two different ways down to magmoor, but canāt explore in there. Thereās a burning dome place the map keeps trying to get me to go see, but every path I try is blocked or requires some missing ball augment I donāt have.
I would not bother playing this game without a guide. Don't have the patience.
Just about done! I've got all the upgrades except for the ||Phazon Suit and Phazon Beam|| and I'm just hunting around for the last few artifacts I'm missing ^_^
Who wants to tell Skippy?
That last few artifact || requires the phazon suit ||
Oh >.>
Whelp, I know there's 3 artifacts left for me to find in Phendrana and 2 in the Phazon mines, so I'll look for the ones in Phendrana first then go down to the mines. And yes, 5 is more than "a few" but math has never been my strong point XD
I just got the thermal visor and havenāt really had a hard time so far. Main thing to remember is that your next objective is usually either āyou got a new power, so go find somewhere to use it to open a new door- the map should helpā or the map will proactively pop up an alert telling you where to go next.
I think the alerts generally happen if itās outside the zone youāre currently in, otherwise you can probably stay in the same area
Yeah that is the only way I progressed without a guide. Dick around long enough until the game is like "hey dummy, go here".
You can turn that off also
The immersion of the Wii controls is a vibe
Exactly š
Spider ball get
Glad that missiles are just as useless as I remember
They are pretty vital for later bosses
Time for the sequel
Rumble included!
Damn thardus boss is kicking my butt!
Thereās a trick to beating them, let us know if you want a hint
Yes please
percentage is based on things you've found, not progress, so there's really no correlation there
So you should have realised that the aim of the boss fight is ||to knock the sun mirrors out of position||
When you fight the boss, notice that ||while it doesnāt do any damage, shooting the head of the plant still has an effect on its behaviour ||
So no then? Less than half?
Gravity suit is pretty late. You're getting close
Back tracking getting to me. Just that you make one wrong turn and now you are closer taking an elevator back to overworld than back tracking/unable to go the way you came from
Too far into it now, hopefully get done with it this week
Thardus is a different boss, the ||rock one.|| The hint for that one is to ||use your special eyes||
@earnest sundial
Thanks
Oh ffs, my bad, thank you for the correction
|| Use thermal visor to locate target, after the first couple of hits you should know more or less which part to keep on hitting (or just keep using thermal visor)||
Oh boy, just started the OG GameCube version for this GOTX. Have not played since I was a kid, and forgot how clunky the controls were. Less then an hour of gameplay and it clicks in my head, and I am now playing about as well as I did as a kid
if you can trick yourself into not thinking of it as a shooter, the controls aren't as bad as they seem
Feels 0% clunky to me, especially compared to other retro games⦠it looks and feels much more modern than it is imo. But yeah, itās not a post-COD4 shooter
The fanboy in me loves the old GameCube "Have to hold cannon to look around" technique
The modern day fps fan in me very much enjoys the faster "just use the R stick for camera" aspect
if holding L let me strafe when I wasn't locked on, it would fix my one problem
If I were a ||chozo ghost|| I'd be offended by how much I'm ignoring them
last night I was finally able to dive back in and the deck in my opinion is the best way to play the switch version
Well, I got the boost ball. Made some progress.
Iām just relieved to see that no one has made a fan song called āLean Like a Chozoā
I started playing with no guide and near zero recall from back in the day
Dam, i don't got time for that.
So now I use the guide whenever I feel like I've exhausted my exploration
Grabbed the power bombs and grapple hook, hopefully that's nearly all the upgrades
I think you have 4 required powerups left
Geez way more than I thought
Oh wait, just 3 I mean. A beam, a visor, and something from a boss
I guess it makes sense there's a other beam, can't imagine what the visor is for
I'm seriously amazed by how good the remaster looks
But I was playing the original when I was testing the 556 and this game is just beautiful to look at.
@next tendon curious as to why you said the deck was a better experience than the switch for the remaster
Because you can remap inputs
I have my r2 trigger set to hairline and as a turbo button for rapid shooting and the gyro mapped to the A button for when I need to power up a shot and aim it.
Probably helps with super missiles too
Yeah remapping on the deck saved me as someone who only uses their index finger for both shoulder buttons
Haven't seen anyone post a deck completion screenshot though, hope it's playable all the way through. Been backing up my save a bunch just to be safe
I did it up to mines on Deck, but my son wanted to see me fight the Omega Pirate so I did that part on PC. Then just finished the rest PC too
I'm at mines now so we'll see
Iām also at the mines. I expected to finish this game quickly but itās now the 20th and here we are
But tell me, isnāt the game lovely?
No, you're right it has been a great revisit
And the GotM aspect makes me return to it, as opposed to just leaving it when I get stuck
Prime is taking me longer in the month than I though, mostly due to PrimeHack requiring me to play on PC
Yea my issue has been restarting three times trying to find the version I'm going to stick to š
Primehack has felt great since the beginning (besides for the keyboard controls to switch visors and beams)
I'm going to say something controversial
I like prime 2 more than prime 1
I need to get back into my prime one playthrough, I'm pretty close to the end of the game
Definitely, feels great on the deck
35 mins of save scumming in thardus
But finally defeated him
That was a tough difficulty spike
Thardus didn't kill me at all in my first playthrough lol
What did was the big version of those ice guys that was a boss
I tried PrimeHack but this game actually does feel like it wasn't made for mouse aiming
I think I also have a bit of work to do getting the display to fill out my monitor's vertical space
I am almost back to the Pirate on basically my second play through this month. Switch remaster is better than the GC DOOM controls. GC game is very dark also.
I will play 2 when a remaster happens. Not going back to GC bullshit controls.
Also this game is made to be played on a TV not a handheld. IMO
I though Thardus was one of easier bosses. Just a bit too long and repetitive.
Play prime trilogy
/primehack
I am ok. Dislike M&K for controls .
Buy a used Wii for 40 dollars or euros, obtain a legal copy of Metroid Prime Trilogyā¢ļø, back it up and play the backup on the Wii after softmodding it (so that you can reduce the risks of scratching the disk to a minimum, of course), enjoy the best controls for Prime by far
primehack has twin stick controller support too
I really hope they have 2 and 3 ready to go as ways to string us along until the Super Switch
@fiery moat Primehack also has xinput support. Been playing 2 with an Xbox controller
At this point I hope Metroid prime 4 is a lunch title
To be fair wasn't it rebooted in 2019
Though we are 5 years after the reboot and it's been 17 years since the last Metroid prime
Beat the Omega Pirate, that should be all the upgrades now
Yep, now just to collect artifacts and then two more bosses in a very small area are left
Artifacts might be a hassle, I'm considering just using a guide
I think I have 5 currently, so 7 more
but no bomb jump
THARDUS
go go MP session
Damn I was sweating going through that maze for the ||power bomb||
Barely had any health left
Woo beat THARDUS. Man that guy had a lot of hp
Grabbed all the artifacts, I'll do the endgame tomorrow
The artifact hints are actually really good, had no problem tracking them down
Did you use charged wave beam shots? Always use charged shots and not just regular shots. I think you also have super missiles then yeah? Those do tons of damage
Regular shots do almost no damage to anything
Missiles are the way to go
How I beat him. Just battle still lasted to long to me. Two less areas to kill would of been great. Since the boss loop is basic.
Thardus was not fun.
And this game really needs to be played with a walkthrough.
At least I know there are quite a few areas that the Spider Ball can be used in.
I also just defeated Thardus, but then stopped cos I can't recall all the areas that uses spider ball. Was going to consult a guide to do the backtracking. Starting to doubt that i am going to complete this before months end
Yeah I used charged wave beams. I initially used super missiles but ran out pretty early into his huge hp pool
Actually I'm finding that charged beams are really the best and only way to beat anything I'm running into at this point. SotN was cooking when they added the exp mechanic to this style of game. It's nice to be able to just smash through areas sometimes because you're a high enough level
If nothing else this game has solidified my desire to play Curse of Darkness
Aren't you guys receiving the pings every 15 minutes saying where to go next
I thought those were annoying while I was wandering around and exploring
I got all the equipment and realized that the artifacts aren't optional collectables
Now to get a guide and go find them so I can kill Ridley
The statues are a guide
The number of people forcing their way through and not jiving with the game at all are saddening me
There are different ways to experience things. Thereās nothing wrong with using a guide.
Dam sequence breakers
I'm under the impression that they're not really enjoying it and are forcing themselves to beat it
Same impression I'm getting. I use a guide for nearly everything, but that doesn't necessarily indicate if I'm enjoying the experience.
Feeling called out lol
Honestly there are things about the game that I'm enjoying. Slowly discovering lore through the scanner is great. The music and atmosphere are on point.
I think there's something here as far as the gameplay, and there are segments of the game that I think are executed really well, but there are also segments that are just tedious. I think part of that is growing pains, and part of it is that I don't really like Metroid. Still, why not beat it? Maybe I will "get" it by the end
Don't b sad š¢
Are you killing all enemies you see? Backtracking never feels tedious to me, but I rush through rooms. Even if you get hit by enemies passing them, it doesn't matter. In Magmoor I'll jump through the lava because it's faster
Ummm don't you have to kill a bunch of them to get the door to open
Or how does that mechanism work anyway. Sometimes I get to a door and it's like "please wait...
...
..."
One thing I noticed the second time playing it is how much in your face some enemy encounters are
You are chilling during exploration with various enemies and platforming sections and suddenly LOUD MUSIC SHOOT THE FAST ENEMIES A LOT
The encounter music pieces in particular, at least on the Wii version, are jarring
Noticed it both for ||pirates|| and ||chozo ghosts||
Sometimes. But there are very few rooms that work that way
backtracking in prime was one of those things that felt tedious but if I actually timed how long I spent on it, it would've probably taken way less time than I thought. it's more the feeling of seeing the same rooms again and again and again.
I wouldn't describe my experience with that as "very few" :/
You only need to kill enemies if there is a door lock on the door, which seldom happens. If it takes a second to open, that's just load times being slow. GameCube version was really slow
I'm greatful for every FPS that manages to squeeze through voting
Not every genre is for everyone
Some only like nintendo platformers or snes jrpgs and that's fine
We're only getting started with Doom and its mods š
I have started doing this after figuring out where I needed to go after getting spider ball. Previously I was clearing rooms
Going to be real with you, the progression in the first Metroid prime is probably the worst in the entire Metroid series aside from other m but that game doesn't count
It's by far the least polished in terms of world design, it's just propped up by the very immersive nature of a first person game
And this is the problem. The back tracking is done in a way that is by far the least cohesive of the entire series
they should have put more swing points for fast travel late in the game tbh
Also, let me ask the real questions: if the chozo spent their entire time contemplating the nature of the universe why is samus so ripped
And what were the chozo doing with all these weapons laying around for samus to pick back up
Were they the 'peace through superior firepower ' kind of race or nah
You can shoot stuff for sport
Maybe they had some really badass college sport programs
And the Metroid threat probably made the chozo switch gears tbf
Yeh, it's like the stories we all heard B4. Very intelligent race, they create amazing tech, become peaceful, fuck themselves up with said tech ||& then a rogue group of "the old days" bunch band together and take over a research station to make the ultimate bio-weapon||
Wait what game are you referring to with this lore lmao
All of them
I put up spoilers for those who have not played Samus Returns or Dread
Oh yeah, the stuff in the spoiler tags was what I meant
Endearing lol
Their cousins became the Turian
REST IN PISS RIDLEY
I think the plasma cannon and ice beam are supposed to be tools that the space pirates/samus change into weapons
how in the fuck are you supposed to platform in this room with infinity morphing metroids?
Wait till they group, power bomb, then pray and run
Itās annoying af
I made the mistake of trying to fight them for like 20 minutes
bullshit mechanic
final boss took me a few tries and I had to do that runback every time. it's possible to get it fairly consistent: ||I platformed to the first "shelf," power bombed, and then platformed to the door||
||get to stone fists where you can jump up. Jump to the last one before the floating platforms. Kill one metroid (powerbomb is easiest way), jump as a fast as you can on the floating platforms and run into the missile room. Leave that, follow the cave, kill 2 metroids, finish jumping and running through to the exit door||
The impact crater was hands down the most annoying part of the game. The key is to ||ignore them as much as you can and just go||
Lore that would be a spoiler

this man did not read the manga
That's a Metroid Prime down
And credits roll
Really excited to play the rest of the series, but this is an excellent start
Some quibbles about world structure and not the most exciting bosses aside, loved it
The bosses are the weak point of the series imo but the exploration and atmosphere makes up for it
Ridley was also pretty fun
If just for the big dragon part
Metroid Prime Part 1 boss was also good
Part 2 and the rest of the bosses ain't the best
So, will there be a save point between Ridley and final boss?
Iām just starting the mines, so a way away yet
The trek from the first save in the Phazon Mines to the second save is a complete slog. Haven't felt like the saves were too spaced out until now.
Feels like there should be another save point in between
Thereās a save right after Ridley.
||yes||
Thereās a ||missile station, too||
Oh o have this to look forward to, what joy
That starts to happen later in the game. Itās like the timer in Mario games. Artificial difficulty
Mental preparation is half the battle
My least favorite kind, good to know
I really wanna finish this one. We've been so busy prepping the house/moving that I've barely scratched the surface I feel. I just got the rolly bomb from the flamethrower boss. I assume I'm not very far.
Not that long a game tbh. One good weekend can knock it out.
You still got 8 days Dw
Yeah just remember itās a short month, donāt get to Feb 26 and think you still have a week
I just got the ||X-ray visor || moments ago
Dude I just unlocked missiles, I've got a waaaays to go lol
I just don't understand why these lava worms take three charged shots to kill
Once you beat the first one and master the spacing there's no challenge, so why waste my time
Stop resisting the exp mechanic Nintendo

nintendo didn't make metroid prime, retro studios did
You're very correct. If someone holds this game as one of the best every. They will still tell you're wrong for not liking their favorite game.
Same. Prime 1 ultimately does a better job of nailing the classic Metroid formula, but then Prime 2 just really creates something new and wild that never fails to captivate me.
Honestly, I don't think prime 1 does that great of a job
it's probably the worst the classic formula is done in the main series, though we have several other prime games for reference and time to show the cracks
maybe i'm just a hater
When's Prime 2 being nominated
Whenever the theme fits I guess
You might be š
I dunno, I love original Prime, but I do agree that I enjoy Prime 2 more
prime 1 is just very rough in some places in terms of the game design
For their first outing at this formula though, I mean, it was revolutionary at the time
They definitely learned important lessons that carried through into 2 and 3
metroid prime was years ahead of its time, definitely
as much as i'm frustrated by a lot of the design decisions it's still a really good game
Yeah
just not nearly as good as it could have been
Prime 2 has different ending right?
I think it is a very padded game.
Nah Prime 2 just has one ending but nice try
I wouldn't bet on it winning the very next month after Prime 1 anyway. Everyone gonna be burned out for a bit need a breather
Burned out and wanting castlevania :/
Castlevania Bloodlines sounds awesome. I hope it wins.
Star Ocean 2 sounds awesome, vote for it
Blue Sphere is better in EVERY POSSIBLE WAY
If by better you mean worse then yes
the xp mechanic is new weapons. Hit them with icebeam + missile and they're done
Thank god
I want a quadruple jump too
I tend to agree with this. There are a few segments that have been really tight, but I rarely feel like any upgrade opens up like a huge swath of gameplay, it's more like I have to backtrack the entire map to find a small area that's now accessible
I wish this game were linear lol
oof, that's a hot take
Isn't the backtracking what makes it a Metroid game?
Just to get your extra missiles. I already have 120 and everyone drops them. Why do I need 125 now?
To spam bosses I guess?
But it's so good when it's linear!
Most bosses are super simple. Just spongy.
Like this game specifically
I like openess of the game. Just wish there was little more rewarding when opening something up or solving a puzzle. Reminds me a lot of BotW where you just get seeds when finding new stuff. Nothing that rewarding feeling to me.
You're going to need as many missles as you can muster for the final boss, trust me
Beam combos big winners for that fight
I am at 180 do I need more? Have all the life tanks besides one? Haven't found a boss battle hard yet.
.. you can use missiles?

There was a whole ||color coding puzzle for weapons,|| where were missiles involved
Beam combos
.. what are beam combos
Super missle wavebuster ice spreader flamethrower
I didn't even think of using those, range was too short on most
I just stayed back and fired charge shots
Game isn't very hard imo, didn't need to think extra
No not terribly
I think my hardest fight was Ridley? Claw dash was difficult to dodge
And I still went down to like 1/2 health minimum
Maybe I've just fought Ridley too many times, but he's always a total chump
Second phase was the tough part
First was a pushover
Though I think I was doing it very inefficiently
The main challenge of the game was finding a save room after a boss fight before you died
I do admittedly missle spam Ridley by using the missle cancel glitch so
I could only get one missle in every chest reveal
Super missiles absolutely wreck ||elite pirates|| lol
Two super missiles to the face and they're down
I'm still greedy bastard and using plasma beam for them
Wait people are dying.
Plasma beam is great too. Super high damage
Also, met some weirdness. Cannot find the very last power bomb upgrade. Revisited all locations, got each and every but still have 8 of 10
I finished the game with 80 missiles and none of the beam upgrades
My faux-OCD won't allow that luxury xD
MORPH BALL LETSSSS GOOOO!
I haven't (re)finished it but every bit so far screams metroid
Just got the varia suit. Ran through the lava area and ended up in an icicle zone without finding an upgrade. Guess I gotta backtrack.
Me after the plant boss. I'm bad at this.
I'm just as bad, believe me. Constantly getting stuck and resorting to a walkthrough.
After about 10 minutes, the game will buzz you with a map update that points you in the right direction but I can appreciate wanting to be a bit more productive with a guide.
This game looks great on Dolphin
I bet it was a trip for fans of the series when it was first released
Yea I've been enjoying the GC version a lot
Wii trilogy was just too tempermental with keybinds for the wiimote
I said it earlier, but this game reminds me a lot of Returnal.
this is true but I do like finding the secrets the new equipment unlocks
Better story here
I will say I love the morph ball boost leading you to find half pipes in the environment you might have ignored earlier
I can be wrong but I recall an interview where Returnal's creators said that Metroid was one of their primary inspiration draws
So Returnal's reminds people of MP ?
Depends on which you played first!
#1202565002297606154 message
Are there other Metroids that are first person of the same quality?
You mean the Metroid or Metroid-like? If the latter, I can recall only Exhumed/Powerslave from PS1/Saturn
Despite it's graphics aged badly, I enjoyed it
It could honestly be whichever series. First person metroidvania is welcome.
powerslave got a pc release with some qol improvements
also not first person, but if 3rd person is close enough, Arkham Asylum is great
Prime 2 and Prime 3
I heard it can be played on yuzu!
Thereās the ds Metroid prime hunters
Say less
Thereās the ds Metroid pinball
pseudoregalia was a hidden gem last year. it got a bunch of attention when it was featured in an iron pineapple video. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2365810/Pseudoregalia/ 3rd person metroidvania
Switched to the Switch remake and holy shit are the twin stick controls better.
Dunno if it's just my RP3+ but just didn't vibe with the controls on the original.
Have you tried mouse and keyboard
Nah and not going to.
This was me also
Beat the Pirate in 90 seconds. Lol
Ok have all the artifacts
I just defeated Chozo ghost. I hope to make more progress this weekend on the game, and even if i dont beat before months end, i will still continue playing. Frustrations aside (backtracking + respawning enemies) this game is unbelievably good. Playing GC version
Jedi Survivor is better in every way, except performance, though not in a mentroidvania way and I never heard anyone call Fallen Order a metroidvania, though I see why it may seem like it. It wants to be an action game and all the unnecessary running around is testiment of its poor level design (imo). Apparently Fallen Order was very rushed and a lot of planned content didn't make it into the game, so they just added stuff to the worlds they had done already, that's why you return to Zeffo a second time, etc. Jedi Survivor seems a more polished version of that vision, closer to an action rpg with KOTOR like world system, so you will unlock planets in a scripted story order, but once on a planet you've pretty much free to do whatever.
"Surely I have enough energy tanks to get past this phazon morph ball area"
He did not have enough energy tanks.
Prime 2 is better than prime 1 and prime 3 is... interesting
I haven't managed to finish 3 so far. Last time I got burned out because I played Zero Mission, AM2R, Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion before loading up Primehack to do 1, 2, and 3 and just gave up like halfway through 3 š
why is it better?
puzzles are better, the game is a tougher which is something i like, the world design is more refined and the progression is leagues better
Wait there are puzzles in Prime?
some yeah
I meant in this one. You just scan and the game tells you want to do. I don't see as a puzzle. Personally
I guess the map system is a puzzle in itself.
the game ending fetch quest in prime 2 is a little worse than the one in prime 1, though both are pretty damn bad
Can you get hints from a fake Stonehenge?
both games give you hints but in prime 1 you can get a couple of the chozo artifacts before the end game
in prime 2 almost all of them you need the (final upgrade) for
True, I had 8 before trying to find the last 4
Is the lore better in 2? The scans for lore in this one are just meh to me.
the lore is definitely better in 2
it's mostly still done through scans but the scan visor is definitely better
and some of it isn't done through scans
I personally find it to be a lot better of a game, but it's also quite a bit longer so it's not something as replayable
more rooms? or bigger rooms?
Well lets hope for a switch remake. I am not playing on GC or Wii remaster.
finding the 4 things to scan to open a door counts as a puzzle I think or the same with the power nodes you need to wave beam
Lame. Not really a puzzle to me.
not great puzzles admittedly
I think they'll release a prime trilogy remaster before prime 4 launches
How were the sells on this remake? I know Metroid doesn't do too well as Nintendo IP.
2.8 million on the GC and 1.09 on the switch remaster. While Link's awakening remaster sells 6.46 million.
That's kind of crazy considering the sales and praise that Dread received
3.04 million for Dread. Still not beating Link's Awakening. Plus Dread is a new game. Like I said Metroid isn't the best at selling games.
Yeh, definitely why we have not seen an F Zero either
I never see why all the hype for F Zero
That's not why, actually
Allegedly it's because they couldn't think of any ideas worth making a new f zero game for
For those emulating on GC version on dolphin I am experiencing an bug where the game will flicker between wide screen and normal aspect ratios during the ||Meta Riddly || fight. I have not experienced anything like this bug in other parts of the game before
And done.
Thoughts, concerns, queries?
It was a fun enough. Not worth the praise or hype. But still a good game. The GC controls are horrible. The remaster help fix it.
Do you see yourself revisiting the game in 10 years?
No, but I would play the second one.
Regardless of the aspect ratio bugging put I just beat the game
Game was just as good as I reme remember from my childhood
Congratulations on beating the game, guys. š
OH I NEED TO SHOOT THE SUNLIGHT REFLECTORS MULTIPLE TIMES
I feel like a huge ass now
Had a bit of a gaming journalist moment
Or 1 full charge shot.
Well anyway the plant boss is finally dead and I can proceed with the rest of the game.
Almost dropped the game due to malding when I just shoot the reflector once and it immediately goes back down. Thought the game was bullshitting me.
17 completions so far - Let's go!!!!
Are you using gecko code for widescreen? That was perfectly stable for me
I was keeping normal aspect ratio throughout the game, and I tried turning off cheats and codes as well but still had issues. Some reddit post with this exact issue was made, and they mentioned this might be a bug related to that build of dolphin for a handful of games
Do i have to abstain from uploading my completion in order to win my bet
Only 40 more people have to beat for it to be something the community really wanted to play.
this just in, people say metroid prime is good because they heard everyone else say it

It's good. It gets becomes a slog at points. Waiting for 2 to be remastered. I personally didn't like the GC controls. Remaster fixes it
Mine always does that when I go between morph ball and standing. I forget which direction
I finally "beat" Metroid Prime tonight, in that I admitted to myself that I don't like playing it and it's not a failure of any kind if I just stop
How do I claim completion credit for this
Please consult with your nearest unemployment agency
But good on you for knowing when to quit. I think we especially in this group get too caught up with beating these things. Video games are supposed to bring pleasure. If you're not jiving, just stop
I just got the ||X ray visor||. Hoping i have enough time in the next 5 days to finish this one since I am enjoying it. I can easily see how it could be frustrating though. I did end up googling what to do once tonight
That's one of the very final upgrades, so should be easily doable. I'd say 4 hours max of content after that
I think my game time so far is about 8.5 hours, so I think that puts me in line with hltb averages. If I can knock out a couple hours tomorrow I should be able to put in a couple more before the end of the month š¤
do you have any artifacts yet?
i have gotten it as well. Gotten 2 artifacts randomly while doing puzzles in the rooms.
||āthe dead should serve the livingā||
For some reason I received this as full āouchā
Getting nervous about finishing in time. Any idea how far the ||elite pirate || is from the end I know I need heat gun, x-Ray vision and probably something else so that feels like quite a few upgrades
The || elite pirate is in the mines, right? ||
||Elite pirate or omega pirate?||
Right
Follow up with the same question
||elite||
After you beat the first area of the mines there isn't too much left from my recollection
Just need to get those artifacts quick enough
Im on the second level of the mines
Although the room Iām in is called ||omega research|| so based on @lament oak ās question, I fear the worst
You can do it, but you might need to push
Hopefully the rest of your weekend is free
4-5 hours left probably
Yeah thatās a good estimate I would say
Perfect, thank you
In good news, my boss is overseas mon-weds
I did not like the ||cloaking robots that you canāt target||
I only have the first artifact so far. Seems like Iāll need to consult a guide or not worry about finishing on time
Iāve worked out the location of about 6 artefacts only to find I donāt have the required upgrades yet. Many people here are saying not to worry about them until everything else is beat.
But if youāre talking about the one ||in the magma power station|| that really kinda early on and yeah, youāll need to get a sprint on to complete in time imho
I've just gotten the xray and grapple and I'm not super worried about making it in time, I think you folks will be alright
Yeah, youāre at least 2 upgrades ahead of me
Technically yes, but if you just grabbed the power bombs like I think you did you're literally like three rooms from the grapple
And the xray is pretty simple to snag
Right, got the grapple hook. You might have been right, that was a supprise
And wow, got the x-Ray vision. You were right, that was quick
Just got the gravity boots and entered the pirate room place for the first time. Chances I'll make it? I work the next three days so I kinda have like two days left
Tbh I'm really enjoying this so far but it can get frustrating and I end up needing a break. Really want a completion tho
Also, does the game require all artifacts or is it like a better ending kinda thing?
Requires all
oof
Is this the right time to go artifact hunting, or are there more upgrades to get?
Oh wait, there must be a fire beam
Yeah maybe grab plasma right quick. It's in Magmoor
Yeah Iām getting the āincoming scanā for it, I think
It's a really cool little Spider platforming journey to get it
Although I've done sequence break runs with no spider ball and there are fun ways to get to the door without it as well
Oh my god I hated that spider platforming journey
Anyway got the fire beam. Is that it for upgrades? Letās see what artifacts I can get before I intercept another message.
Out of interest, Iāve still got loads of ???? For artifact clues. Do I have to go back to the artifact statues to get the new clues?
