#AYANEO Next Lite
1 messages ยท Page 3 of 1
mostly just dragon quest 8
there is a 3ds version that I'm pretty confident will run well but it just isn't as great looking in the big landscapes
oh also final fantasy x/x-2
The SD855 should handle it
The FFX games for sure
sick
I feel like we are all having similar conversations on the respective devices ๐
Anyone received a shipping notification yet?
Kind of funny that right after we asked them about it, they rebranded it to a โNext Liteโ case.
@zenith terrace now that the 100 early bird units sold through the white is in stock
That was the one I wanted originally
Want me to buy one so we can trade
Gonna need you to compare the next lite and next pro to tell us if the only change is literally just the chip
are they selling the 4800u model yet?
Not yet
Still 4500u
I'm holding off of expensive handhelds right now cause I'd like to get a new TV for my apartment
Aya is one weird company lol
A 3200u Mini PC and a 4500u handheld in 2025
2024
and probably 2025, let's be real
Some people will still complain about the device even if it was 90% off.
Me selling you my handhelds at an extreme discount doesnโt count as a fire sale.
I'll give you $200 for the Next Lite when you're done with it
Please
Deal.
Damn I didn't think that would work
I think my favorite thing about the Next Lite so far is the sheer volume of discussion it has sparked
I think think other companies should look at this and sell these one or two year old APU in new devices at a lower cost. less Ewaste. AMD 4000-5000 series can still be useful chips for retro gaming.
Who knows I may really like it and sell you back your air pro instead.
Oh, I was just asking for it over email. Didn't even know it had been rebranded!
I think the early birds got rushed out to beat Chinese new year to be honest. Apparently they have a limited number of the retail units on the website right now (literally down to well under 40 at this point), and when they go, that'll be it for a while. Retail units for all the SKU's will land March/April.
We're not going to see these until after CNY for sure.
I can see it now.
I can get a Steam Deck with a broken screen that sometimes turns on for that price, just get a Steam Deck.
An Aya staff member said March/April for the 4500u SKU's, and April for the 4800u. So yeah....
Oh ok saddle up it's gonna be a wait.
Give you $200 for that too
/jk
Deal
If you're serious I might just do it. My friendship ended with it when the Loki 6600U showed.

You know where my DMs are
It's been really interesting watching people tie themselves in knots arguing that we should "just" pay $100/$150/more, depending on where you are, for a Steam Deck.
On a discord where people often say $20 is the difference between a "great buy" and "DOA" for $60-$200 handhelds.
It's like x86 just engages a different part of the brain.
I have to DM you anyway we need to talk about game night.
Yeah there's other things we need to talk about anyways
And for most of the PC games ever released, other than the last few years AAA titles ๐
I'm sort of hoping the plan is to ship out the early birds, build hype around the device, show people it's not just indies, and then release the rest on to the world after building FOMO about the device you can't get.....
But it's probably just Chinese New Year issues to be honest ๐
You have to give it to China. They do holidays right.
None of the usual western struggles getting families together at any time other than over Christmas for a few days.
The national shuts down as much as possible to make it work. For a week or two, multiple times a year. Which is a good thing in my opinion.
They grind for 12hours day more usual than in west
Oh, for sure. It's called 996. Work from 9am to 9pm 6 days a week.
But most countries at their GDP per capita level have that without the holidays.
I'm certainly not romanticising Chinese labour practice. But if anything, it makes it even more surprising they do holidays so well.
I mean Japan did that between the 20's and the 90's, and they were often guilt tripped into not even taking annual leave.
It's just a really interesting/unusual set up.
Itโs a simple case of having huge population with limited opportunities leading to everyone simply having to compete.
the problem is not a lot of these people emulate on pc anyways, so it's all just one big feargasm
I hope you're getting one
it will be like your new Roman Empire
After the win6
i'm more likely to get the rg556
same cpu performance as rk3588, but a gpu half as strong, which means it'll hit the same cpu bottlenecks and only just top off its gpu for android gaming, switch ports, and pc/console 6th gen.
also, better battery life.
Why not game force then

nobody talks about the turd in that punchbowl which is the hungry 12w soc.
the scale of power draw from 8nm/12w to 6nm/9w is a sort of essential salt to how annoying the device will be to play on with the same 5500mah tablet battery
Huh
basically an ARM handheld with the power consumption of an X86 handheld
is like a mini pc afterall
yeah
Let's hope its not got the heat issues of an x86.
doesn't it have active cooling?
Yes but after the rp4 pro throttling stuff I get ppl being concerned
And ideally you want a lot of headroom for cooling. Can be more of an issue in the summer months where Air Con isn't common. Or if you live with an elderly relative that likes to keep the place toasty.
"Active cooling" doesn't mean much anyway. The RP Flip has active cooling. It doesn't do much unless you rip out some internal stuff blocking it.
I'm not saying it does have issues. I just mean it's a bit of an unknown right now.
this is where Anbernic with the Win600 did a great thing
that cooler was so overbuilt it was great
One plus point about the RP4 Pro's heat issues. Now all reviewers will be on the lookout for it in powerful devices.
yup
but this means reviewers will probably need to invest in tech to give detailed info
Or just get an infra red thermometer for $15 ๐
that's one piece
a thermal camera will cover the gaps that an IR thermometer will expose
Oh, sure, you can go full Phawx on it ๐
I just mean the in between is fine for most people, and we don't need every reviewer doing the same tests anyhow.
But internal temperature stats software shows doesn't tell you about hot spots on the outside. An IR thermometer will if it's anything the average person will notice.
Therm camera is best, but a combination of software letting you know if it throttles even at max fan speed (or max non-annoying fan speed) when pushed, and a cheap IR thermometer to pick up any comfort issues should be fine.
Mostly it's just knowing to look for it though. Russ barely mentioned heat in his Rp4 pro review, which is probably just because he didn't play tough stuff for long enough, or thought to look out for throttling. He even mentioned the fans could be slowed down, as temperature wasn't a problem. I am sure he would have caught it if he had thought it might be a problem.
That's not particularly a criticism of Russ. He does great work, looks at loads of things, and got that review out really fast.
It's just something to add to the list to check, as he missed its biggest issue.
it's like how you only need to use the silent fan setting on the Pimax Portal Retro, XP Plus, and Win1 to get enough cooling to not throttle or get sweaty palms
capping your fan speed is one of those welcome benefits to this sort of gaming.
Was amazing you get sweating hands from a intel atom apu. that component layout within the win1 was terrible. It was a 1st gen design. Phawx nickname it the lava stone device. haha.
I usually run the win1 with turboboost off. It does limit the types of games I can play on it.
yeah... it's all kinda clustered too tightly. the power efficiency is there, though. you could play Mount&Blade for an hour and only be 10% down on battery. it's a durable little device
I wish the soc wasn't completely phased out. Would be nice to see it in the body of the RP Flip with that same blackberry keyboard up top.

Shipped
hey that's mine
How did they send you the memo
BastORRds
No month long IGG wait, no credit cards being declined because of IGG, no IGG $80 tip sneakily thrown in there....
Much easier.
Ppl would have to not cry abt chip first for that to happen
They will be happy when it runs a steam deck chip ๐ค (ie never)
For anyone who wants to give HoloIso a spin.
The step by step guide makes it seem pretty easy.
And no, I still have no idea what changes have been made to it ๐
Yep mine has shipped too. Fastest Aya experience to date ๐
First thing I am going to do is install HoloIso, just for the hell of it.
Then get Cemu and BotW just to spite the community spreadsheet that only gave this thing a B for Wii U emulation, when it will clearly do it fine ๐
B is still pretty good
I just think doing all games at full FPS deserves an A ๐
I think they just sort of gave it one grade less than the Steam Deck in everything. It might get changed once we see performance.
They prob grabbed the next ratings and copy pasted it
Maybe. But given the emulators have improved it should be an A now ๐
I am still annoyed the RG35XX only got a B for PlayStation. Literally nothing it can't run at full fps with Garlic.
I'd assume B is all full speed
A with high res rendering
S you need sticks
At the same time, these ratings have no real meaning, only care about F
In which case Steam Deck shouldn't get an A for Wii U
But yes. Generally useful as a reference for how consoles compare, rather than working out the difference between b a- and a.
Arriving on the 8th. Very speedy.
It's always funny when you IGG stuff. Sometimes spend a few months waiting....and then one day it ships and arrives from the other side of the world a few days later.
this is shipping at the same rate of the air pluses we got not too long ago
good shii
What kind of performance can this thing push out for ps2 and switch emulation
PS2...anything, and upscaled. It's x86, so it doesn't have the compatibility issues Aethers has either, as it's using different emulators. Shouldn't need a particularly high TDP either, so battery life should be good.
Switch.....is sort of more difficult to judge. X86 Yuzu is way further along than Android Yuzu, so it's more about power than compatibility.
Fewt said, with JELOS he might be able to do TotK at full FPS, but there is no guarantee the JELOS team will get a unit. If not, it'll probably do the toughest 75% or something, and do the rest with some compromises. But difficult to judge, as most things using this chip are using older versions of Yuzu.
Also all Wii U, some PS3, and a bit of Xbox/360. But a lot of those games you would be better off using the x86 versions anyway, which this will run much better than emulation.
I rather play ps3 on the original hardware that haha ps2,gc and switch are usually the 3 I like to play the most
I mean, emulation is broadly CPU bound, and this has a better CPU than the Steam Deck. But some of it will be GPU bound on the Next Lite but not on the Steam Deck, as steam deck has a better GPU. Emulation wise, it'll be back and forth between the two, but that sort of ball park.
Remember, when this chip was in the 2021 handheld it cost more than double what the Steam deck cost ๐
back in 2021, that chip was also nearly top of the line (for mobile low-power chips)
only a year old
Aye. It's funny how cost changes perception. Looks of articles from back then comparing the Ayaneo 2021 to the Steam deck and saying it's back and forth as to which the better one is.
The Next Lite has better Ergo and a better screen than the Ayaneo 2021. But because it's cheap for an x86, people keep assuming it's indies only...
No the funny part is
A new laptop comes out every single year
Ppl don't run to the stores thinking oh god ๐จ my laptop just became a year old
It can't run anything anymore
I mean I guess some Mac bros do
But overall it's not something real that happens
People are still pissed at retroid and the rp3+ release ๐ okโฆ less then a year, but no one was forced to buy the new model.
To be fair....it was only a 3 month gap.
The 3 was delayed due to covid.
I mean
I wouldn't fault anyone for being mad about a sizeable upgrade released so close
it also fixed a bunch of issues that people were dealing with
It was less than 3 tbh but I wouldnโt drag up past drama further rip those ppl I feel their pain.
I love drama I guess ๐๐๐
They did sort of try to make up for it. Selling 3+ boards so people who bought the 3 could upgrade.
And they learnt. They did the RP4 and 4 pro at the same time because of it.
Itโs all in the past at this point and the rp4 launch was handled much better for sure

Amazing that some people are going to get their next lite this week
Literally
The first time a handheld company actually ships in a good amount of time
I think they expedited shipping due to Chinese New year. Otherwise, it would be two weeks and then some.
Mine is coming in Thursday.
Nah the air plus a month or two ago also shipped in like a week
When it's not igg it's good to go
Bc they aren't bound by the obligations to pay and fix up any issues rendered with indiegogo
I don't understand why they don't just skip IGG
I agree. Store only from now on. IGG is just too slow of a process and that tipping crap is very shady.
Agree, but then i remember Loki launch ๐คฆโโ๏ธ
Sometimes IGG is easier ๐๐
IGG is nice when it's not order-to-ship
Yeah, I dislike the uncertainty of IGG. Order and receive the item....at some point. Which isn't really the way IGG HAS to be. It's just the way it tends to be used.
Aya has generally shipped quite smoothly for the non-IGG stuff. In December I ordered a couple of devices and they all arrived in about a weekโฆ
Igg shows live interest and helps also with sales alot of ppl fomo into copping a bigger sku if they see that's what is being bought
You can't see any metrics on other platforms like that
Plus igg is a legitimate platform that people more or less trust
Ordering from random Shopify page for some ppl is deterrent and sus
Hey you too! Awesome
Trusting IGG is a mistake in and of itself
I've tipped them hundreds of dollars what do you mean they can't be trusted /s
๐คฃ๐คฃ
IGG is as good as the company using it. Which is to say it could be great or awful.
IGG is like a super power. Some people will act appropriately with it. Others will not.
I agree igg literally is for supporters of any given cause or company tbh
If Aya was scummy they could literally just not ship ๐ข
When you sign up for a campaign and pay smth there's literally a bulletin that says they're not obligated and it doesn't assure you a product will be sent etc
It's moreso a charitable donation
And if happen to receive smth bc of that
then you do otherwise oh well kinda thing
IGG is not a store. You are donating to a perk with the IGG contract stating you may not get that perk at all.
Yeh exactly ๐ฏ is just a charitable donation that get rewarded or not based on company

Palworld - 1 hour 30 minutes battery at about 30fps on low image quality at uncapped TDP.
Baldurs Gate 3 - 1 hour 15 mins battery at about 30FPS on low image quality and FSR at 25 TDP.
Cyber Punk - 1 hour 15 mins of battery at 30 FPS locked on low image quality and FSR at 25 TDP.
Forza Horizon 5 - on low image quality 50 FPS at 25 TDP, or 40 FPS at 15 TDP, or 30 FPS at 12 TDP (2 hour battery life at 12 TDP)
Titanfall - 2 hours battery life on default image quality 60 FPS at 15 TDP.
Deadcells - 3 hours 30 mins of battery life at 60 FPS and 7 TDP.
So, TDP round up -
25 TDP - Cyber Punk - 1 hour 15 mins battery life
15 TDP - Titanfall - 2 hours battery life
7 TDP - Deadcells - 3 hours 30 mins battery life.
That seems pretty good to me.
๐ โฆ reasonable - but Cyberpunk results are a bit weird (low) as I remember it running better (especially with FSR) on my og 2021 aya. But probably depends on which FSR he was usingโฆ
Take it for what it is really. The results of a reviewer using default windows and not fiddling with settings, after having the unit for a day and making a video in that time.
So, basically, this is worst case scenario.
Mine is in Hong Kong
RH being positive about the Next Lite ๐
They talked about it, and NO-ONE MENTIONED THE STEAM DECK OR Z1 ALLY!!! It's just talked about like another handheld on it's own terms, not compared to more expensive stuff. Well done them.
Skipped to the right bit.

i like how he BITES the case open
1 hour 30 min. in Palworld at 25w. EH..... probably runs better in potato mode, which is how you run it on a 2400ge/vega11 in linux. it can only support low/medium graphics at 50w in windows
like, for me, 480p/30fps/potato-mod gets me a little over 2 hours on the win600. if i use rivatuner, it goes a bit farther
Johnny on Flame does the same stuff with his. Playing Stray at 480p with a modded ini and whatnot. It's how I play biomutant at 15w
it's a weird double standard though, innit? People cope with 20fps n64 games and 30fps nds/3ds games rendered at sub 480p, but suddenly they turn up their noses to the thought of pc games at that res
Well, those games were played on a CRT back in the day, and generally I don't like playing those old 3d games on a large screen without upscaling, either.
n64 at native res on a 3.5" screen is ok, but not on a 7" handheld, for me.
As far as fps, well I guess there's a difference between games locked at a FPS vs games that can run higher. Games are also designed with different target resolutions in mind.
So, I mean I get where you're coming from, but it's not quite the same, IMO
I mean I guess if it was my only option... maybe I am spoiled for choice.
But how many here are buying a win600 or ayaneo next as their only device?
win600 has run its coarse, imo.
unless anbernic lowers the price, it's just not a good option for people.
Yeah, it's very much a video of a person who's just got it and made a video in a day.
Gains to be made. Just running it on linux might help.
on the iris 80cu gpu, maybe. amd linux drivers are kinda screwy. like... in ubuntu, my 3400g can't render SOCOM for psp properly or run palworld on low graphics beyond 10fps
Me. Well, only x86.
I want the option of Wii U/PC games, but I'm not desperate for it.
A budget handheld like this fits my use case well. Wanting it, but not wanting to pay Steam Deck prices.
I guess I've always had a PC as well with a decent GPU as long as I can remember. So buying a device that barely scrapes by at (modern) games just doesn't do it for me. But everyone is different.
They'll start arriving at peoples houses tomorrow, so we'll see soon ๐
The next lite far exceeds my laptops specs.
Laptops are just for work and browsing and stuff for me. I don't have a PC.
Yeah, I grew up with PC gaming so, different audience
Honestly, I think a lot of people buying this will be in a similar situation. Never really dived into PC games, and the cost of entry was just a bit much.
Also let me clarify what I was saying earlier... if you are buying the next lite to play emulation and older pc titles, then by all means, it totally makes sense. I was targeting buying to run new games at 480p/10fps lol.
I get you. It's not my use case either, but I'm not convinced the games from 2024 are massively better than the games from 2021, so not really bothered about pushing framerates. Online gaming has never been my thing.
But if someone wants to tinker, or if they really want to play Starfield on potato settings at 20 FPS or whatever, and this is all they can afford, that's cool, I don't judge.
Right
I mean I'm hacking a $30 business teleconference device to play emulation, so... I really shouldn't be speaking

Gotta play upscaled smash
When there's a steam deck OLED sitting next to it on the desk
I mean I watch people buying expensive android consoles and battling with Switch games glitches and saving loads to beat the crashes, and I don't get that either. But people pay a lot of money for that experience.
Some people just want to push stuff.
Yeah, I've decided to not bother with switch on android.
Wise. There is no rush.
I picked up a switch lite for $100 which does a much better job
If I could get it for that price, I would be right there with you.
Yeah, sadly there isn't as cheap of an option for the other continent folks.
I mean, minus TotK and a few others, the Steam Deck should handle most of it, right?
I haven't even tried since early days of LCD deck. I did a fair amount on the ally when I had it.
But there are still games with issues here and there
Even TotK, the steamdeck can't lock 20 FPS, but neither can the switch ๐
TotK I played streamed from my desktop with RTX 4070 lol brute force
Probably for the best the switch 2 is coming.
We are getting close to when a lot of Switch games will be upscaled in docked mode on handhelds, and that's just embarassing for Nintendo.
Aye, I mean docked mode and 2x res
Switch 2 this year, hopefully...
i hope it will be emulatable in a few years
If it really is not even PS4 power (likely), then...maybe.
Whether that makes it to Android as quickly is another matter.
Yuzu started on PC in jan 2018. Android it landed mid last year.
Next Lite is best at 7th Gen(xbox360 era) and under tbh. it can do higher, but will never hold 60fps on anything but 2d indies and some switch crossplay ports. To some people, not not reaching 60 means it can't play a game at all. it is what it is.
I'm old. i started gaming on the Apple 2, so it doesn't matter much to me so long as a game can be played
I grew up with Playstation and N64 and stuff. 20 was a dream on those in some games.
I don't fancy going back to 10-15 FPS. But above 20 is sort of fine to me really.
Like, i've gotten a decent bit into Wigmund on the win600. It's a current gen party action rpg that struggles to reach 30, but is still pretty fun
I imagine a AAA from 2020 that can play on medium settings is a better time than a 2023 game on potato settings, so I'm not fussed on the latest games. But frame rate per se isn't an issue. More just that I don't think games from 2023 are really any better than games from 2020.
Yeah, it's game dependent as well. Fighting games on low FPS are more of a struggle than RPG's ๐
i'm sure there were people who looked at my video on Vermintide and thought "ew... it's not 60fps." lol
now you get to play it on the Next lite, and STILL not reach 60fps. ๐คก
It wasn't a good option, the day it came out
one might say the same for the Odin Pro, which was selling at the same time as a hybrid android/windows machine. not amazing in either, but it happened
I dunno. The recommended spec seems less than what the Next Lite has, unless I am missing something?
