#Miyoo Flip
1 messages · Page 13 of 1
It's probably too late seeing how they're already assembling the first batch
I always find it amusing seeing two different people in this thread, both with names and pfps of Metal Gear characters voiced by David Hayter
We need Iroquois Pliskin
If it wasn't for the fact that my current pfp is so iconic to the people that know me, I'd probably do it myself lol
people here acting like the Flip is a thing, it's not a thing until it's out and god knows how long it's gonna be
I mean, Dev Units has been sent out.
means absolutely nothing
eh, isn't that just any one these with "peek-a-boo poker" rom?
IN A CAVE WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS
so no review units
No units at all 😉
put a 4080 in there
Just buy a z flip and slap a miyoo sticker on it
but its not a 4080 kekw
Means nothing. Also the review units will not be ready this year. So the release date is sometime in 2025.
Miyoo - we're not in a hurry!
Miyoo - it's done, when it's done!
Miyoo - we develop pocket gaming devices and then cancel them!
Miyoo - s00n!
Miyoo - welp, i guess we gotta drop the price to half again
The first batch hasn't been assembled yet!
Miyoo - 🤝
Miyoo - it has been cancelled, friend
It's going to be an awesome little device.
they didnt upgrade the screen? rip doa
It's 3.5 inch 640x480
yeah the rg34xx is the nail in the coffin for this thing
Idk, I really don’t like their shape. The flip looks way prettier, not to mention build quality (appearance of it anyway)
Humm not yet, it's in direct competition with the rg35xxsp rather than the rg34xx. And furthermore onion os or spruce could still make the miyoo mini flip a big hit
Agree if miyoo could recreate the magic of the miyoo mini they can still push this thing high and above
True. The reason why I'm not counting out the Flip is because there's so many OS options for RK3566 devices like this
(And if GammaCore gets ported to this, we can even get Android stuff running too!)
That would be super cool 😎
I'm talking about the target audience. Who is this for. People who're nostalgic for gba? then anbernic wins with both the sp(shape) and the 34xx(screen). And those sticks are not helping. With 50k views on thet 34xx video in 4 days, while the 35xx-h exists at discounted price, that means something
Miyoo mini flip isn't trying to go for all nostalgia though it has analog stick and is meant to be even more compact than the rg35xxsp and probably more pocketable than the rg34xx
It's probably best to wait till both devices get released I have a feeling the flip will feel much better in person
Part of the miyoo mini magic came from a relative limited number of options back in the day imo and that screen is particularly special.
Competition is much more fierce now.
miyoo got lucky with the mini, some talented dev made onion, the stock one is bad, screen is bad too, they got point for the dpad though
Can't argue with that though
But if the flip has something similar to onion on launch it could be good regardless
i don't think onion is the end all be all anymore
miyoo's track record does not support this
it's prettier than muos, but muos has it beat for usability
Well they made one flop which is the A30 but now the A30 is made much better with spruce
muos can be really simple with upcoming kid-mode or could be really advanced with the ability to create and install apps
can you honestly state that spruce is good?
The new version is pretty good, came very close to replicating onion
with muos, i love how you can completely customize how you want it to act when you power it down or sleep, quick mode...
it's really good
Onion can do that too
is it customizable though?
It's hard to speculate how good it will be until we get it on hand
I mean, maybe, but there's no true sleep mode on Miyoo devices
Yes
Flip should have one though
i'll have to look into it on my miyoo mini, i thought you're forced to use quick mode
I can set power turn on to game switcher, go back to previous games...,
The really cool thing in MuOS is that you can create entirely arbitrary game collections
Like create a folder with all Castlevania games and have every game be launched with a proper emulator
That's pretty neat
I don't think anything outside of Android frontends can do this
I think the killer feature of muos is the app section, anyone can create apps for it, and simple installation. and recent development of chrome based browser and dolphin emulator are just crazy
Oh yeah, that's true
I think there are like two or three scraper apps there already
I have been using Trimui brick and comparing it against my mm+ on onion. The brick has such great sleep functionality that I never turn off it. So going back to a game is much much faster than onion's quick mode.
I lowkey wish all linux based handheld works like the brick.
oh I like the Anbernic way, just slap ubuntu on it and let people tinker
it may not start off well but in the end some smart people can take advantage of that openness
Do you know the percentage of battery drain per hour roughly?
Was there some drama with Ubuntu on Rockchip chips? I dont know how things would go in the future.
roughly 0%, the smart pro lasts for weeks and weeks while sleeping
Very minimal. Maybe 1%?
Damn that’s insanely good
maybe 2% per day for the brick, since it has a smaller battery
it's going pretty well so far 🙂
Good to know I saw some drama news earlier in the year but didn't follow closely.
Lol I was too busy to check internet because I was fixing my system after I typed "yay" and hit enter
if you're interested reddit r/linusrants
I don't think any Anbernic device runs Ubuntu tbh. Rockchip devices run an Anbernic fork of Batocera, Allwinner devices run something made completely in-house by Anbernic
And yeah, there was lots of drama during the Rockchip days, not so much during the Allwinner era (Anbernic didn't get better, but the new CFW scene doesn't care about that)
all the h700 devices run an old version of ubuntu, you can slap xfce on it and install libreoffice/chrome/normal linux stuff if you want

not just ubuntu based, it's full on desktop ubuntu with keyboard/mouse/printer support
Thank god, what would we do without printer support
I didn't mean the drama around the jelos era or so. The drama I was referring to was this:

And yeah I wasn't aware that h700 runs full on desktop ubuntu. Hopefully things would work well.
Any ordering/shipping info yet?
Hello, still debugging
Ok will check back in a week or so.
Análisis de la esperada Miyoo Flip. Una consola inspirada en la famosa Game Boy Advance SP, que apuesta por la estética, la portabilidad y los buenos acabados. Pero que viene con algunos errores de base.

feb 31st right?
it's been soon/next month for like a year now
if not longer
I hope if Onion makes a new OS on here, they can strip the EmulationStation stuff away
Other devs will likely port ES-based OSes on here easy
I already have the beautiful miyoo flip in my hands soon review on my youtube channel

Is that a Divoom?!
I want a divoom
Uh-oh. (From Steward-Fu)
could be a concern, at least the H700 doesn't get hot, and rk35kk does, but i'm sure they'd put enough air gap there
also that battery seem to be covered in some kind of foam
Probably still depends on the circuitry design
If there's no boneheaded USB overcurrent mode
This setup should still be decently safe
RG353P
one more thing, those shoulder buttons do not look like the metal frame supported through hole xbox style and looks like SMD, those're gonna break so fast
to save assembly cost?
Any handheld doing it right?
almost all of them
without the through hole frame, and people smashing those, 😕
just hope that they have some kind of support frame at the front that we don't see from this angle
this is a modern SMD one with the support at the front, doesn't look like the one in the picture
i remember miyoo skimping on that with the rk2020
dropped my first unit and one of the shoulder buttons came off
Well why'd you drop it? That was foolish, typical cat behavior.
it wasn't my fault okay
our paws can't grip for shit
i learned next time to grab handhelds with your teeth
powkiddy or miyoo
He sounds like Charlie day voicing luigi in the new Mario movie lol, I would love to hear more reviews with his voice
oh now we have a time frame "end of month" instead of "soon". Isn't this exiting
Naked Snake in another server said that there's apparently issues with the hinge as well as heat
Which isn't very promising
2 years in the making and it sucks 😦
Can we go back to arguing about screen size? It was more entertaining than the release date
shieeet, why only Powkiddy is able to make a good SP clones, but they dont want to upgrade V90 anyway xD
When Powkiddy upgrades V90 they would do weird stuff like putting sticks on top of dpad.
Does the RK3566 usually get hot?
Just thinking to myself. Keeping the heat away from the player's hands with a clamshell is pretty difficult, I'd imagine
That is true, admittedly
Hmmm
Doesn't look so bad in a review
The DPad still looks terrible
But I still might buy
I mean that's to be expected from such a compact design
with a loose-ish grip it doesn't look like it'd be too bad
Compact and comfortable can't really coexist very well
Can anyone confirm, is sound quality upgradable like mini ? which chip is compatible with this model?
keep in mind that reviewer has miyoo ref-link in all their videos ands socials
Is that a real rk3566 or the fake one lol
they're not gonna fake it, but if they can sell this thing for $50, I'll be really impressed. That's like an orage pi 3b with screen and controls and i'm so put android TV on that 🤓
70-80 dollars
oh, that price's gonna limit this thing mostly for western countries then. it's gonna be ~$150-$200 with tax for me, no thank you!
that's like cut off most customers from south asia and south america, good luck with that miyoo
Steward-fu has put out a LOT of development files on GitHub (no idea if they're going to be deleted or not) so he got all the toolchain running and it's not going to be fake. Plus, there are PSP emulation test videos floating around, with a fairly good attempt at God of War, so it's NO fake.
What's your ideal price considering your region?
Wtf, that's more than 2x
yes,yes it is, more like 2.1x because of import paperwork fee and post repacking fee
depends on the exchange rate, but right now it's $40 for my country
the people of south america have more breathing room at $50
Okay, I've seen people debate handheld prices over 5-10 bucks, now I know why
there's a big, gigantic different between 40 vs 41 and 50 vs 51 depends on region
Yeah, I just figured those were people that buy like 10s of handhelds each month (so it just adds up), but this makes more sense
Also daaamn
depends how rich a country is really, there's also a limit in the US at $300 iirc
Yeah, but it seems like there's a new tariff horror story from Europeans every month
(don't mean to criticize, you have my sympathies)
We definitely don't have it as bad as the South Americans, so it would be wrong for me to complain
with the rise of Temu, Shean, my country's politicians soon are voting on removing the tax free cap altogether, as in tax everything but there's push back as the custom office might not able to handle all that extra work
^They did this in my country, but the store has to administer it. So the big ones will charge VAT/GST, but the smaller ones don't. And it has to be physically detected by someone from customs, and they don't give a crap if it's less than $500USD's worth
But yes $70-80 US dollars is nearly twice that in AUD/CAD/NZD, so it goes from being an impulse purchase to have fun with to 'Do I really want to spend $150 on this?'
At least it takes less than a week for stuff to show up at your door I suppose. Direct flights from Guangzhou, baby
Yeah. Really hoping it releases before next administration kills the pricing
south asians have 'methods' to get these cheapish
the least grey area of which are business which do essentially groupbuy imports to get better rates, the mini+ is readily available for around 50 usd now
What if adding tariffs on ewaste is government's effort to protect the environment
won't stop samsung from making trash low end phones to flood the lower markets
What kind of phones do you refer to as trash?
A15? lol
That phone works perfectly fine for things a phone was meant to do lol
I bought an A05 when I broke a phone but was like a month away from contract renewal and a new free phone.
It's awful. Helio G85, yet it takes a minute to load the launcher when it unlocks and too many notifications slow it down. 4GB of RAM, ugh. It takes ages to place a phone call.
Entirely bloatware causing it. Also it's not powerful enough to cope with full Android overhead. The stripped down Android on an RK3566 chip runs better.
Samsung cheap mobile phones are absolute ass.
i mean all cheap phones are ass
Oh and don't forget, HD+ IPS is not really HD or IPS really
Honestly the Motorola ones aren't. A lot of the Chinese brands do good cheap phones. Nokia/HMD tend to as well
Admittedly, Motorola's cheap stuff was kneecapped by only having 1 major version update, though if the G75 getting 5 version updates is any indication, we may be in for a treat with next year's G series...
Samsung's A series phones are the most popular in the world because they do what 98% of users need. With the exception of a powerful processor or a professional grade camera it has most of the other features that high-end phones have at a fifth of the price.
Now if you want to game on it, or if the processor/camera is really important to you then yeah you should buy a couple year old flagship instead
Samsung low-end phones suck at doing basic phone tasks. Probably in part because Samsung shoves them full of bloatware
Over here in the US, there's not much choice when it comes to cheap phones aside from Samsung or Motorola (with Pixel a for the upper mid-range). You may see a OnePlus or HMD/Nokia thrown in from time to time, and I won't be suprirsed if the rumored Nothing Phone (3a) has full US support, but still
(Well, full meaning "it's on AT&T's whitelist and it has band 71 for T-Mobile")
my most expensive phone ever is my current Poco M5, about $140, perfectly usable.
I manage a cafe with a POS software with 2 delivery apps, plus play Another Eden on it, manage socials, some financial software plus moonlight and anydesk to connect to my home server
and my young customers "need" latest $1000 phones to doom scroll facebook and tiktok
yeah my free Pixel 8a does more than my iPhone 15 plus does 😦
in terms of emulation lol
my previous phone was a sansung M20
still usable but some financial apps refuses to work on it
I might downgrade to a lower-end phone in the future, admittedly. I do like my Galaxy S21+, but it's kind of overkill when I'm not playing many resource-intensive games on it
I’d get an old flip phone if i didn’t rely on gps navigation so much
I'm fine with paying more for a phone when I'm getting 7 years of software updates. Definitely helps the value proposition, especially if you buy last years flagship second hand
I just buy mid range phones and get around 4 years out of em
Half-price flagships from last year own
When I worked at an electronics big-box during college, I always talked customers out of mid-range and into buying last years flagship for an extra $50-100. Saves them money in the long run, flagships are built better, have better hardware, and better support.
$1000USD? I remember when flagships were like $500USD. I saw the Oppo flip phone in a store here for nearly $2500USD, who is spending that on a phone?
I’m very happy with the Pixel 8A. 7 years of updates too
I had a 7a, really liked it - was nice to finally have a smaller phone, it fit in my comparatively tiny hands, but it overheated like crazy and literally got too hot to use. Ended up exchanging it for a moto
I’m using it solely as a handheld gaming device and I haven’t noticed high temps
The Pixel handsets are very hit and hiss, some of them are fine and some of them have massive QA issues
My phone shouldn't be 75 degrees from scrolling Substack lol
I was shocked that I can play quite a few switch games on it
Really? I tried Yuzu on my 7A and got 40fps on 720p Metroid Dread, but maybe the Tensor chip in that was older
I really liked having AI sit on hold for me, vastly underrated feature that should be standard on every phone
8A has the g3 one gen behind the current flagship
ah yeah I think the 7 had a G2
And yea the 8A has all the Gemini stuff included too
Yeah I think my next phone will be a razr. Kinda shocked that folding phones haven't gotten cheaper yet
I’m an iPhone user but I’ll be honest that I am considering the Pixel as a daily driver
I hated Samsung
once one of those book style folding phones goes under $1k I'm saving for one
same
it'll make reading manga so much nicer
I feel like I overpaid for my iPhone 15 plus. I got it a year ago for $600 after trading in my old 11. At first it was amazing cuz I played a lot of iPhone games. But now I am into retro handhelds so my phone is a huge paperweight
It doesn’t even do Apple AI
I paid full price for my iphone 15 pro when it dropped telling myself i would use it for more content creation stuff and never did
Feel like a big dummy i wanna just sell it and get something more reasonable
I don’t even like ios compared to android
I'm more of a Tina Linux guy 😎 like what's gonna come installed on the MIYOO FLIP
the miyoo what now
That a phone?
me buying surface pros
you can use the original odin as a phone
Miyoo made an Odin phone?
I'd buy it
Honestly the Tina Linux stock firmwares are underrated. Yes the music is REALLY annoying... but they actually work, and they play games and they generally don't have horrendous performance issues. Also they look nice
that's the reason why things like Onion, spruce, and MinUI work so well.... it's mostly the SD card contents that Miyoo screws the pooch on, haha. The stuff that can be overwritten or modified by a motivated tinkerer.
i thought tina linux was specifically an allwinner thing
Less flip talk more phone talk
everyone is like 'onion is so great I love onion' ... it's literally a nicer version of the stock firmware lol
onion is, in some ways, proof that miyoo actually has really good stock firmware, they're just ass at doing good out-of-the-box configurations
the onion team did a hell of a lot of work cleaning up miyoo's mess though and added some thoughtful features ontop of it, miyoo did really need a team like them
I bought a Mini at release and I remember using the stock firmware a LOT... and it was fine. Nowhere near the MinUI experience that came to it later, but fine
yes the 5 different versions of snes9x and the 1000 -The Addams Family romlist is a Miyoo classic
i thought their frontend was very nice, it was very simple to use and navigate and polished on a couple fronts
iirc, the stock firmware lets you open the retroarch menu too ontop of their simple save-state menu, which i thought was a much better approach than other stock firmwares from other companies
other companies expect you to know how to navigate retroarch and remember shortcuts (tbf, a lot of companies use community firmware out of the box), while others lock you down so much that you can't even change the aspect ratio
I am trying to reply but my reply is getting automodded
A very popular romlist is another offender- it's full of licensed shovel ware - who's playing that and declaring it's the best thing ever? Like honestly.
Huh, I didn't realize that mentioning that list would trigger the automod. Fair enough.
I think it's a famiclone hangover
sometimes it looks like they literally individually scraped their romset images by using a search engine
and sometimes they number their roms and it's not even in a logical order for some reason
like they probably had some poor intern number it
miyoo at least doesn't look like they use an automatic scraper
The MiniM had a really good list, with a lot of Nintendo removed
the xu mini m?
magicx is kind of a weird outlier in these small details i feel
they haven't yet made a name for themselves yet, but they do seem pretty in tune with the western part of the retro handheld community
i can't tell if those romsets came from their distributors though, they give a lot of control to ampown for example
Does the China scene have a CFW scene like ours? Everywhere else seems to just install stuff from the Western CFW scene, or release it here - seen a few Japanese devs release stuff in both languages
i think the only firmwares i've seen come from china are from third party contractors who are probably rushed to develop firmware for these devices, or maybe companies who used to develop for the bootleg famiclone era like cube tech
you see more custom hardware than software from china
opposite here to the west
I wonder where the FF7 for NES guys are now
i have no idea, but it would be interesting how they would survive in this new retro handheld world
i was surprised to learn about bootleg nes games being an industry, it seems so niche and unprofitable, especially past the 90s
huh, interesting
this is from a long time ago
but they could totally be part of the rush of the retro handhelds
Famiclones are huge in the developing world and were big in China in the early 2000s
Some kid got an R36S for Christmas last year and it was the best thing ever
HW modding scene in asia is way ahead of anything you see in the west
90% all the schematic that's current used for hw repair in the west is sold by 1 vietnam forum 🙂
not like the west, opensource is the norm of the community. in asia almost all things are bought and sold, closed source
you see these in daily life objects like solar powered lamp or camera, home automation
many things that deemed impossible in the west is trivial in asia, example apple iphone lock
modded bios to reuse server hardwares, mortherboards, stuff like that
things like cfw like the ones here for retro handheld in the west are developed as a hobby, software in the asia is more practical, mostly for financial gain, to be sold
stuff like the new apple mini PC is reverse engineered in less than 2 days and a week later most shops offers ssd upgrade service, parts and board schematic
Late for the discussion but I bought iPhone 15 Pro in the summer, mainly because my iPhone 11 was too sluggish. I know full well how much I paid, what is the price/performance proposition and everything else. I am happy with it because it just works and has great camera performance, and OS feels snappy.
I work in IT, and therefore a lot of android phones has gone through my hands. I will never ever get back to Android unless it gets on par with iOS in terms of usability, OS support and security of it.
How do you install the chrome based browser on the SP? Name of app or GitHub link would be awesome thanks
my a55 came really clean, that criticism must be some old idea from years ago
Thanks a bunch!
Same I also work in IT and the Pixel is the first Android that made me go Hmmm… maybe Android isn’t so bad.
Android in North America lacks serious competition after LG went away, then Huawei and other Chinese stuff got banned or pushed aside.
samsung, google, and motorola seem to be whats left...
I have a Nothing Phone (2a) and I like it well enough
Although it's not a brand that's readily available in the US
I have lost interest keeping up with the latest smart phone now... I find even the H700 devices more interesting
That's because, apart from folding phones, they are more or less semi identical black rectangles
Some of our options were taken away from us. Like maybe some want expandable storage, some maybe want a headphone jack, some don't like having curved edges, some dont like fingerprint recognition through the screen etc. In the past a lot of the purchase choice could be based off these but now most phones are more or less normalized.
Just my 2 cents tho. I purchased a Huawei phone when it was not banned because its storage could be expanded by an nm card, and I got a Samsung phone just because I want a Dex mode. These special things are what I personally find interesting.
I just wish more companies did colourful phones
More colors and smaller
yes not every phone needs to be a 6.7 inch 21:9 skinny behemoth
I would like something in a 16:9 aspect ratio for watching videos please
i always wanted a phone that was like the lumia 830-930
metal frame and polycarbonate back
I had a Lumia 920 and a Lumia 1520. They were amazing

i really loved the plastic of those lumias
no one ever touches them anymore
Most beautiful phones I've owned, and the polycarbonate felt amazing in the hand. Shame it was all locked to WP8. Windows Phone was awesome, but too little too late. It was way better than Android.
Had a real focus on having a usable phone first, which meant even the low-end 5/600 series-Lumias were all quite fast and snappy to use in the OS, which Android still hasn't managed.
i had a lumia 521, i would agree
So much traffic for so little news
The HMD Nokia phones are actually designed fairly similarly, but they run Android. Well, the first few batches of plastic midrange they did, I'm not sure about now
unfortunately, they just had no apps
the plastic they use isn't really the same i don't think though
or at least, it's just not as fun as the lumias
i have a nokia 6 though from back when HMD first got the license to Nokia, that device was built extremely well
so much better than my iphone 15, that device really felt solid
Nope, I broke the screen on my 1520 and just bought a Huawei Honor instead because I really wanted to play Hearthstone, and even though my 1520 was perfect for it, it wasn't on WP8. Honestly they should have just had a compatibility layer for Android apps on WP8, would have solved the app problem.
I mean, the 1520 had a Snapdragon 810 in it - but nothing to use that power on. And they were secure phones, and no one bothered to put a custom Android ROM out for it because it was incredibly difficult
HMD/Nokia still use very similar design language to the Lumias, but the polycarbonate seems to be gone. Maybe it's on their 'high-end' phones?
i think they had a an android compatiblity layer or something like that on windows 10
yes for desktop. Not for the phones in 2015
the HMD skyline is kind of lumia-like in a way, but they used glass on the back
no, they had it on windows mobile 10 if i recalled
people had google play running on it
Installing Android apps on Windows Phone 10
Full written guide and tools http://techcat.ca/threads/how-to-install-android-apk-apps-on-windows-phone-10-preview-video-guide.164/
I have successfully tested few Android apps on my Nokia Lumia 920 running Windows Phone 10 Preview. It's even possible to install Amazon apps store or Google Play store ...
ok different from what i was remembering
I had a Nokia 9 Pureview, it was terrible
isn't that the one with a shit ton of cameras?
i heard they dropped support on that one very quickly for some reason
Yes, but I bought it because 'NOKIA!!!" and it was using last years chip and mine had a battery drain issue after 6 months
News that likely got buried in all the phone talk (or that I sourced from the RG handheld server):
Onion devs have units in hand already. Spruce devs have one unit so far with more on the way. MinUI dev and supposedly Rocknix devs also have them on the way.
Screen confirmed 640x480 3.5 inch. Dome switches, but softer and quieter than the Anbernic SP.
Device ships with some pirated ports including Balatro and Stardew Valley but also has PortMaster itself.
Some areas of concern are possible heat issues towards the center of the device body, as well as hinge creaky/crunchiness (supposedly to be fixed in retail units), and possible insufficient bracing on the shoulder buttons to withstand intense use or drops
Look at this stunner.
ugh that one shocked me when i first saw it
The shoulder buttons are a big concern, honestly.
but then i realized they were using windows rt and i got sad
thanks
is it weird that I miss windows tablets from that era?
No, I also miss them. Now it's all massively expensive 2 in 1s or AliExpress listing using 10 year old Cherry Trail chips
I'd pay good money for a phone that had a dpad.
And I don't mean for playing games
Literally I am a lot better typing text with a dpad and an onscreen keyboard than that touch nonsense
the chinese ones were very cool since they had dualboot functionality; the ones with windows rt were really darn lame
i fooled my dad into buying a surface 2 thinking it would run windows programs
it didn't
that's one of the reasons my parents stopped considering my opinions when buying tech
well that and the time i told my mum to buy an xperia z and it stopped working within 5-8 months
and that time my parents bought a galaxy tab 2 10.1 instead of a galaxy note 10.1 because i told them dual core was better than quad core
My parents just buy apple stuff no matter what I say. Then they install Windows 7 on it.
My advice generally consists of 'For the love of god, buy it from overseas, it'll be half the price'
This goes for anything, I saw an R36 handheld for $80 at the local market.
Honestly, same. Father and I missed out, sadly
I don't care for 3.5" verticals but damn that was tempting
I saw an X6 for $80 at a local market
Yup. I suppose if you have no idea what's available on AE, it seems like a good deal, but it really isn't
Jesus Christ
Then again a local shop/electronics chain here is selling one of those big X6 arcade game things running Pandora for like $150 too
isn't the X6 ass?
I don't know, I think a lot of the 3326 OGA clones that flooded the market this year are pretty ass
Hardkernel will never make an Odroid again 😦
It's kinda sad that happened to Hardkernel, meanwhile Funkey S was opensource and encouraged clones, and all you have is the occasional homebrew listing on AliExpress and then the nano/q36. Where's the Funkey Macro
The Funkey part is kinda funny because I know of only two clones
The RG Nano and Q36 Mini
sucks that we won't get another Odroid Go device, I'll see how much I like the OGU when it arrives for me
Oh wow, like 80% of the Funkeys are discontinuned now
RIP
I did consider getting ther Q36 Mini at one point because it was the most wieldly looking of the three options
Oh it's a total novelty item outside of GB/GBC, all of them are
You can play SNES games at 1:1 and NES games, and it's not terrible - you can even walljump with the Nano dpad. But it's a good recipe for eystrain
But the hinges are really solid - Miyoo should have stolen from them
if they had a 2" screen it'd be so much better
Ooogly
I like mine. Load rocknix and Print/acquire a grip for it if the rear firing speaker or ergos bug you
I got a grip sliced and ready to print
Just because for all larger wide screen devices I want a grip
Thankfully the ultra is the same size as the super
just as bad as all flip devices
Booo
you clearly havent tried to repair one
i tried
and this event made me hate clamshells now
What clamshell was it?
N 3ds XL
Yeah that one is a bitch to work in
the normal SP was just as bad imo
still end of the month?
It looking less like a real gbaSP aside, I don't understand the value proposition of the flip
it's a higher enough powered chip that we can expect it will cost more, but not high powered enough to play anything the XXsp cant
Iirc it will do Saturn a lot better
And I would assume some of the harder n64 games
Doesn't Saturn use analog triggers
Which the flip won't have
I guess if there's a Saturn or N64 game isn't like a racing/shooting kinda game they would be ok
🧟♂️
Yeah, I think about a dozen games support it, that's around 1% of the library
And the original Saturn controller doesn't have analog triggers, it was a feature of the 3D control pad
Which by itself is compatible with less than 10% of the library
i think percentages arent a good way of looking at it
nobody plays the whole library anyway and when u talk about early 2000s stuff u get into the movie tie in slop
what percent of the top 100 games of these systems would be helpful thou
I mean, when it's low numbers like that, it is pretty accurate
Not to mention the games that use these will be titles with 3D graphics that RK3566 can't really handle in the first place
2d n64games
Basically 0 of the games people want to play now "needed" the analogue triggers. On some shooting games you could strafe faster or slower (yeah, I know, 90's controls), but it's mostly fine.
And the games that did need it were designed with a second mode to work without it anyway.
The Dreamcast had a lot of games where you do sort of need the analogue triggers. But the Saturn its mostly fine.
gta3 plays pretty well on rk3566 and you do want sticks
I have been having lots of fun playing it on my 353m this past week
Another week another no Flip . This thing is never releasing is it ?
Im so over this anyway
No, but the Dreamcast did.
Although I remember the Saturn did have an analog controller, but I don’t remember if it also had analog triggers or if it only had the analog stick.
Dont get flipped by the lack of flip
Huh, alright never mind then, it did have them.
This wasn’t the standard controller, it was an optional purchase (3d controller?), not sure if any games at all required it, although I guess some like Nights into dreams used it (optionally)
I remember no one in my school had it 😅
Oh I know, I directly referenced it as the “Saturn’s Analog controller” and not simply “Saturn controller”.
I probably should’ve mentioned it was essentially the Saturn’s answer to the DualShock though, just to fully establish that it wasn’t the regular controller that was included with the console.
are we there yet?
they have to wait for the 34xx hype train to die down now
Yeah, IIRC it's the first home console controller to have analog triggers at all
so there's roughly 30 days in a month right? day 1 anbernic announces something, hype it for 10 days then reviewers get their sample and hype it again, day 15 it goes on sale for few days, 2 weeks later they announces another new thing and the cycle repeats. If miyoo cares about the hype train at all, there'll never be a good time
like the 34xx goes on sale today, in 2 weeks we might have 34xxsp 😂
well the point is that the 34xx is a blatant competitor
Well, I have heard some people say the PSX DualShock apparently having pressure-based L2/R2 triggers (like how the DualShock 2 had pressure sensitive buttons for everything but L3/R3/Start/Select), but I’ve definitely heard people also say otherwise, and frankly I don’t think it’s true (I don’t even have the PSX DualShock since I started with the PS2 and just played PS1 games on that, so I also can’t really open one up to verify).
they'll probably release a mid end one next
I mean, apparently there's a shortage of rg34xx, it would be smart for Miyoo to do to Anbernic what Anbernic used to do to them
Then again, shortage is probably due to not being able to have full speed production at the end of the year, so they might both have those problems
a shortage?
that was from before it was officially released
Ah, okay
they're readily available to buy everywhere
I think there is a shortage, official anbernic shopee store for south east asia doesn't have it yet
and no pre-order like other releases too
When Anbernic has a shortage it is usually high demand. When Miyoo has shortage it is literally shortage.
that was actually the dualshock for ps3, psx was all digital
ps2 analog x, square, triangle, circle button
ps2 bumpers and triggers were also pressure sensitive
the triggers? you sure?
that's so odd, so they cut stuff from the ps3
i'm not sure which games actually used pressure sensitive l2/r2, but i have the gt4 spec ii mod and that allows you to use analog input from l2 and r2 so there must be something there
i do remember the analog thing just for msg3
i wish the pressure sensitive thing had catched on and was a standard
having so many analog inputs would be great on current controllers/games
MGS2 and 3 probably used them in some way
Those games loved their pressure-sensitive controls
all the cqc stuff was done through that
Also aiming
At least in MGS2
With a full auto rifle, Raiden looks down the sight with a half press, and fires the weapon with a full press
With pistols and tranq guns, shots were only fire on the release of a button, thank god
But still no mention of a release date!!
I was just going to ask that.
In the video he talk about the end of December (maybe)
"next month" -copium addicted people here since2023
Something at least shipped to a small few....that's a good sign right?....right??!!! 🥹
Definitely one of the signs of all time for sure
they're not sending prototypes out to critical people, so is that a sign too?
Define critical?
Like reviewers?
The ones who will absolutely call out BS and such without a care of being gentle
What is the CPU in this equivalent too?
Main one would be the RG353V
More than a air fryer, less than a ps5.
does an air fryer have a CPU?
Don't be so cynical. Maybe they simply don't have any in stock themselves
I'd assume one with digital controls does. Or one that turns off when it gets unsafe
A lot of things have chips in them that you wouldn't expect.
In before 'Why is my air fryer using 100 megabits of bandwidth a second?'
Man even my air fryer’s got a better WiFi chip than the rg28xx
I'm not an electrical engineer but I'm pretty sure you can do those things without a proper CPU
like my stove oven has digital controls and turns off when unsafe but I doubt it has a CPU
Just a microcontroller more likely. You don't need an OS for an air fryer
There's always your Samsung Smart fridge twitter users though, so maybe there would be a market
Doesn't a microcontroller have a CPU? Or basically is one? It's comparing a banana to a much smaller banana
I'm old, I was on a forum many years ago where someone was banned for browsing on their WebOS TV
*Samsung Smart fridge twitter botnet
Honestly I'm surprised someone's Android handheld hasn't ended up in a botnet. 'Guys my rg353v won't play GB games, what's up with that???' com.android.malware.cryptominer is talking up all my performance, did Anbernic do this to me???
None of my home appliances have any issue connecting to my home wifi whose name has special characters in it, but many cheap handhelds require me to edit the wifi config file manually for connection.
Probably because your home appliances were programmed by professionals while your cheap handheld was made by 3 nerds in a Shenzhen basement
These cocky professionals. They show "Enjoy your meal!" on the screen when the food is alway not heated evenly.
It's a nuanced difference but there is a difference. Not really relevant for the point of this conversation though lol
Easy enough to just think of both as the brain of the device
one controls the temprature, one becomes your cryptomining fridge
so close to release 🙃
Ah, the "Next Month" has morphed to "this month" due to the increased copium intake
Hope it's for real, plenty of competition out there now
end of "the" month not "this" month
I mean, hey, is that "Hope" I smell?
Or is My American public education system letting me down again and I misspelled "Something"
Eh, only clamshell competition right now is Powkiddy and Anbernic, they’re all j ripping off the SP
there are many others, they just don't focus on western market so most english speaking people just don't know about them
Can you name one or a few? I’m a big clamshell fan and the only ones that I know of currently being produced are the v90, 35xx sp, and the Aya Neo Flip
Idk if I count those as competition with the v90 or 35xx sp, but I guess those are technically clamshells
Not being produced anymore
hmm should i buy the xxsp or the miyoo flip nah the smart move is to purchase this gigantic arcade monstrosity
its the most future proof
also the market for low volume modded consoles
50 dollar modder console
If we’re talking about why westerners don’t know about these and why they’re considered competition; I personally think about the pocket-ability and accessibility more than just a device that has a hinge. We still don’t have any affordable clamshell that you can buy that’s still being produced/easily accessible that can play some old GC and PS2. Closest was the RP Flip. In order to do that currently ya gotta do this:
i saw this video
its a banger
Cuz being unhinged is the meta
I’ll reiterate what I’ve been saying: if Anbernic can make a RG Cube SP that’s a wrap
4 inch square display, dual analog sticks, SP form factor
Arguably the active cooling is unnecessary for the T820 so they have plenty of things they can omit
The other devices was thinking of was the RP Mini. That thing could make a fantastic flip device.
Reuse the original pocket flip sliders for space.
I’d be fine with sticks or sliders, vita sticks to me are ehhhh though. I’d honestly prefer sliders. I’d love a well built RP Mini Flip or RP5 Flip
I doubt AYN would make a clamshell, but if they did and it was pocketable I’d bite
rg cube sp please
do we have exact miyoo flip dimensions?
These are from a few weeks back:
#1101304832276562012 message
But the thickness definitely is wrong because 20mm puts it at even thinner than the gameboy sp which we know it isn’t.
yeah I feel like those mesurements aren't very accurate
I doubt this thing has finalized yet, still lacking the metal hinge
Another non English review https://youtu.be/gsx_Yc6m8tk?si=UI3dN6MHz6F0nHhk
Los chicos de Miyoo por fin lanzan la MIYOO FLIP , una réplica de la Gameboy advance sp inspirada también en la Anbernic RG35xx SP ¿ habrá merecido la pena ?

8 days left, oh boy, this is exciting
more like 8 months left
the miyoo rep said it, "the end of the month" they seemed very confidant about that statement
I'm adding salt to everything they say at this point considering this thing has been cooking for like a year and a half
As much as I hope you are correct they have said this exact thing like 6 months in a row
I keep seeing people saying that it’s using Vita sticks, does that mean cardinal snapping?
Right. People keep asking these questions to the miyoo rep and then posting it here like it isn't just a "shut up and leave me alone" response. Their responses mean nothing lol
The only reason to be more confident this time is actual units going to devs, I still think it will be January instead
If then
Oh it's coming. I don't doubt that. But asking them weekly for a time table is ludicrous. They will release it whenever they want and give quick answers to all but ignore the questions.
Yeah, stuff like this is incredibly prone to last minute bugs. I would bet they don’t want a repeat of the A30 release where it was pretty clear they didn’t have it all figured out before sending it to people.
I’m sure the first round of production will end up having self snapping hinges regardless lmao
Yeah better wait for V3 or V4 😛
Will it come out Christmas day
bold to do that when shipping takes weeks
All I want for Christmas miyoo
They only say they are going to release something. Could be the device, could be an official announcement, could be a teaser video
EDIT: added emoji. I was making a joke about it.
what? this statement is quite clear
Must be new to how miyoo responds to these types of inquiries 😅🍻
miyoo is a respected beloved manufacture, they wouldn't lie to customers right, all the youtubers recommend miyoo
Oh I was just joking about it. I should've added some emoji. But if you read deep into their response. You ask "Can we expect to buy" which is a yes/no question. Not only did they not respond with straight yes or no, they also didn't include a subject in their response or the word "buy/purchase". They just stated that something about the flip would "be released" at the end of the month.
They’re respected yes, but the customer service representative on Aliexpress is just some guy who gets to answer these questions. If you scroll to the beginning of this thread and read through the whole thing you will see like 8 or 9 cases over the last 12 months where people have asked and been told “expected next month” or something similar, and here we are.
It’s not that we don’t want it to be true, we just don’t want to get hurt again lol
They said that every month for a year lol. We just speak from experience, every month they said it was THE month of release and so far it was never true
This is real there are videos of it being sent to creators and them playing on it
I never said it's not real lol
I said we can't trust what the aliexpress person say as everything they said in the past was wrong
It's been real for like 2 years man. Catch up. Lol
Scroll up. Every month they say it's gonna be released and yet nothing. Expected february ! Expected march ! Now expected april ! Etc 😆 idc about the wait tho, and i believe it's super close. But no, just because they say it's this month doesn't mean it's this month, as every other month they said it was gonna be released and didn't happen
It could be this month. But it could be another month too. The aliexpress infos are not reliable
That's just what we are saying
Hopefully this month still haha 💪🏽
Could be 2026. People need to take a deep breath
Yes !
It’s almost 2025 and people still believe asking the AliExpress customer rep for info means anything
It will come out the second this channel comes to a consensus that it wont
Why the hell would they cancel something this late in production ffs
he's just trolling
Lotta strong feelings around here
This is the company that was rumoured to have A30's made and just sort of, lying around for a few years
I still kinda believe this lol
Miyoo Mini Flip stonks will never recover from this
still 6 days left, 🥲
Never too late to cancel!
i wouldnt be shocked if they just cant get the hinge to not fail,
honestly it seems like anerbnic has been kicking miyoos ass recently
is there a competition ?, miyoo has 1 thing, the mini, that's it
miyoo a30
oh, people buy that?
😂

Flip has arrived. Initial impression:
I don't see them very often where I'm from, and on fb group, some sell them even less than r36s
and some offers trade for some low end devices with no reply
I guess who can argue with your evidence of a facebook reselling group. Pretty shut and closed case.
I have the crunchy hinge, I really hope they fix it. The buttons are clicky but WAAAAYYYY softer than the SP, thank god.
yay more aftermarket joycon sticks!, at least ill have pleasure to experience joycon drift before the hinge inevitably disintegrates
They aren't joycons
the hinge, just plastic shell or they have real metal hinge inside?
I can't say for sure, I've had it like 20 minutes so not ready to open it up lol. But they said specifically the production units wil have metal. I have to assume mine is plastic. Like it's sturdy as heck, it just makes this kind of uncomfortable crunching noise while flexing it.
put some lube on it
it's not winning any awards but it has its fans
super cheap too
Idunno, Russ gave it the "Most Improved" award in his yearly roundup 😉
I would get it if cheap enough, but no one's selling it here and no official channel
I stand corrected lol
participation trophy vibes
No ones selling it because they wanna keep them
and I don't feel like getting it on aliexpress and risk taxes
no one's trying to convince you to get one, just saying it's a thing that people own and many people enjoy. spruceOS for the A30 gets a few thousands of downloads each release
I'm sure one can link aliexpress to lazada and taobao to shopee but I guess Miyoo is above that
the price is quite attractive to me right now, as gift for other people
I think it's less that they're above that, but more that they are a tiny not super competent at sales and marketing company 😅
Yeah, the amount of 'got some more as a stocking stuffer' messages we got this last month has been super high. And I think it's good for that. I'm giving away 3 of them myself this week.
I've seen many aliexpress stores on shopee, even anbernic is on it selling the 28xx for $35 free ship tax included, 15 days free return
how can they sold millions of mini and be tiny, doesn't make sense
Is the thickness of the device closer to the 35xxSP or the GBA SP?
The 35xxSP I'm guessing, it's only slightly slimmer than the 35xxSP. I don't have an og SP. Lame length, slighty thinner, much smaller width wise like by a bit over 10mm. So it feels a lot smaller
Man those sticks look out of place
No
"the end of the month"
End of the month, including Christmas, is certainly an ambitious date to hit.
Well maybe. Remember the P60 was a thing.
which month?
the month you read that statement
current month=current month+1
Month++
checks mail obsessively for remainder of day
oh hi
Oh shit! You got it!
Yeah it's already in pieces, this thing has onboard SPI flash which means it won't likely boot anything off the sd card.
Will see if I need to dump the existing SPI so I can clear it to run my own firmware
I love when you talk dirty to us like this
those shoulder buttons look breakable easily
There is a way to run stuff off the sd
Couple ways
#1317396942963347467 message
He’s probably gonna want to do it on the flash for optimal Android performance anyhow
Yeah yours has to be close
ah so I'm running my own uboot, that link is using another approach
rocknix guys will also want to run their own uboot
will need to revisit after xmas day 🙂
but was able to wipe SPI and start booting my own card, a few things I'll need to sort out first though
That's awesome
can anyone good with this stuff look and see if this has rtc by chance 😔 even tho they said it wouldnt
It has an RTC app similiar to the miyoo mini + and the A30. But I can't say if that means there's an actual RTC chip right now.
Retro tame corps
I am pretty sure You can see a spot for the RTC baterry on the teardown pictures that Gamma provided (a little circle-shaped padded area on the PCB with a 2-pin connector close by). So i would guess it has a full support for RTC
Already ordered an SD card for this….
rtc app wouldnt do it for me :<
the thing is miyoo have said in messages before that no rtc will be included
not sure if "full support" means we can easily add one ourselves? afaik it's extremely difficult
or maybe in a future version
To be fair Miyoo was saying that the Flip will be realesed at the end of the month since what? April or something? So I don't really trust their communication skills.
As for the RTC: I am just describing the things that I am seeing here. There's a spot on the PCB for something circular and a 2 pin connector close-by. The only 2 components that would match that spot is the RTC baterry or a small speaker (and let's just say: you don't usually put the speaker on the back + there's a speaker grill on the front of Miyoo Flip).
If they didn't want to include it, they probably wouldn't design the PCB that way.
i really hope soooo <3
I mean, a circular thing could also be a rumble motor, no?
Like here's a 353M, I assume that's rumble
Oh yeah You're right. I somehow forgot that Miyoo Devices have rumble
Yeah, these devices don’t normally use a dedicated RTC battery since they usually just tap the device battery for keeping the RTC on.
Between the sticks? That's the speaker. The 2-pin connector looks to be the battery's.
Oh f*ck, You're right I completely forgot about Standard baterry when making these comments. The 2 pin connector is most likely just for the baterry.
soooo will the clock work regularly as long as it isnt fully discharged?
If they have the crystal oscillator required for that RTC to function, then yes. Or as long as the oscillator commonly built into some APU’s has the voltage pins it requires connected to it (instead of those pins just going to ground like what happened with the Miyoo Mini).
Can't you get RTC via wifi?
Yes, but it isn’t exactly convenient to rely on the internet to keep track of the time if you would need to constantly change the WiFi signal your device is connected to whenever you go out, and that’s assuming the place you’re in has WiFi that would work with the device.
Preorder for Jan 5th?
As someone holding one, I'd say to wait for review units. I'm not super confident in the build I have. At $90 this is a little shoddy feeling. But mine is very specifically a dev unit according to Miyoo
they want everyone to know their batteries are safe
They knew
Sounds like that thin insulation thing SP v2 have?
At least looking at teardown picture it doesn't seem like there's anything special
I wonder when white and yellow will be for sale.
i caved and bought the brick, if this gets glowing reviews, i guess ill have to buy smh
Well my unit doesn't support usb c to usb c charging, so... can't hit those upper charging speeds, should be fire proof. But fucking annoying to charge.
i wonder how long a break anbernic will give miyoo till a 34xxsp
I just got my Brick and it's my new #1 device.
gotta wait 2 weeks for delivery, gotta stay strong
White not available?
Looooool spot the problem
what's wrong with having the d-pad on the right? lol
I like it that they could've called the other USB port "OTG" like everybody else but they decide to change it's name so they can make a typo "comtroller".
lol I didn’t even catch that one, I was looking at something else
I still want one but maybe not at $90 and not at launch 🤔
90 is a lot for an RK3566 today
But then again retro handhelds are always marked up on Amazon. Let’s see what the AliE price is like
But yeah with Miyoo tbh it’s really never a good thing to be an early adopter 😅
Ngl, might as well pin this comment
IIRC every Miyoo handheld took some time to get good
Which part is the wtf for you?
I didn’t know its out so soon
Neither did anyone else until a few hours ago! Pretty new news
Hell ye
I can’t decide where to ship it to. I’m home til the 9th but possibly the 11th and then go back to school.
I don’t mind being an early adopter or the Amazon mark up just because shipping is easier for me but I also might just wait til closer to the date
Wdym it is always soon
Miyoo Flip is buint in rk3566 CPU, dual TF card slots can store and run more retro classic games. The flip-top portable design allows you to play games anywhere and at any time
The wait for the Miyoo Flip is finally almost over. Like actually, for real this time. Early this morning, the Miyoo Flip became available for pre-order over at Amazon, with a starting price of $89.99. According to the listing, the Flip is set to be released on January 5, which is less than two weeks
