Even with unique identifiers sql can lag a lot on a huge data set. I have worked with some that had that, but it still took like 4 hours to get the data back. Of course that project had like 20 trillion data entries in like 50 tables

Millions usually isn't a problem, but it might take a couple minutes if the database is on a different server being called frequently

there are some ways you could handle the issue anwyays though

they just make it less of a magic bullet solution

expiring entries more than x days old would make it so that it dramatically slows duping, but doesn't technically stop the possibility of it

you might be able to make it so that the server doesn't wait for a response before downloading / uploading the item/tame, but will destroy the item if needed once the request completes

... i had a third idea but i forgot

it might have just been that you restrict it to only meks noglins and tek suit pieces instead of all tames + non-prim crafted items

but said that already anyway

I am just thinking that doing that call every time someone uploads or transfers would take a very long time, especially with a huge player base constantly transferring

Possibly logging transfer data for a day in a separate database, and then running a check for the whole day all at once would be a more efficient way of doing it

the core of "log moving things across servers and throw hissy fit if things don't look good" is all that really matters

the issue is that in this case robustness vs effectiveness is in many cases a 0 sum game in this case

and it's impossible to tell where you need to draw that line because we can't really stress test it on official

or maybe you can't keep up even after the already described strategies

but i think that there's probably enough variables mentioned to fix that up well enough anyways (entry expiry, item/tame scope, 'fraudulent transfer' check frequency/timing as two biggest variables to affect performance)

With doing a daily check, rather than an instance check it would kind of stop the need of entry expiration

in a worst case scenario it'd probably make expiration be a "every once in a while manually" thing rather than something which needs to happen frequently so people can still refresh their upload in less than 2~3 minutes

the stupid thing is that this is basically how every active player users their upload anyways

like i can think of two main uses for timer:
-encouraging you to be active
-encouraging you to set up a safe place to refresh your upload

possibly a third being performance constraints

making timer refresh a oneclick interferes with the second, but i'd argue ark data at least partially functions as a tool to help smaller groups fight the odds against bigger groups and making it weaker for them isn't necessarily a good thing

making it permanent interferes with both so i can understand the argument against it

increasing upload timer to 48 hour doesn't mess with the activity requirement too much though
even just increasing it to 36 hour would be massive in decreasing the risk of things expiring in upload

Making a permanent upload would definitely need more structure than just allowing random items everywhere. Like specific spots for armor and the hotbar, with ammo options and like 3 or 5 tames is all

you're at the limit of current upload

and you're definitely well off compared to someone who'd naked

but you're still poor relative to people who are well established

my guy if i want a tribe i just tell the boys to get on and i have 24/7 online timer instant i'm not talking about myself

I have been watching the statistics for steam arkpoc and the most popular unofficial wipe servers for like 2 years now. The common trend is that they have a crazy week 1, then die off entirely. More recently, excluding arkpoc, even less people join on wipe than ever. They don't have retaining power

Really the solution to cheaters in ARK is to buy and play other games until Wildcard goes the way of the dinosaur. If they don't support their game it is not the smartest thing to do to keep playing it. They got a FAT player boost when they turned the game free for a bit, but as usual they already lost all of that possible community because of the broken ass 'to the best cheater goes the spoils' rewards system, and an otherwise uninteresting pve community.

it's been 30 minutes without ark, the air begins to feel heavier. my neighbor's dog shit on my lawn like a gacha, I tried harvesting the poop for ele-dust but it was just fully brown inside. when i found out it was an unopenable crystal i just threw it back at my neighbor then rockwell's minions (the police) told me I couldn't throw gacha crystals (3 pounds of dog shit) at people. I tried punching a rock to get stone for a pickaxe but I just broke my fingers. Now I need to find a tek sleeping pod to cure my injured state and heal back to full. I forgot to pay my electric bill so my electric company turned off my tek generator and took away my element. I have to hurry and find a new source of power before my kibble (my small source of nutrience i have left in my fridge from the last time I left the house) spoils.

If small tribes would wipe it would bring back sooo many players and would make the game 100 times more fun to play. Small tribes is still infested with dupe loot and exploits. Ark devs clearly dont give a sh*t about pvp so why would it affect them if they just wiped it all

However, i'm almost certain the currently way the game is distributed on UWP currently limits what they can do AC wise. Any access to the WindowsApps folder (where ark is install too) is completely locked, even with administrator. To gain access to the files you need to change the ownership of the folder, I'm guessing it's the same case with the game or AC trying to read files outside of it's own folder aswell for UWP.

Other tames can help heal your Dino’s, (Snow Owl, Daeodon, etc) and depends on what you’re playing are you on official or unofficial because rates change based on what you’re playing

For the ideal stam I use on blood wyverns is around 12-1500 but that’s my take I prefer health on wyverns rather than stam but you wanna be able to fly around too

Official used to be good, but when duping and meshing became out of control is when I quit, and official worsened when it became crossplay in my opinion as well

6 days defending mesh raiders to be wiped and not be able to hardly anything sucked, all that time wasted to cheaters and nothing ever got done about it

Every map damn near, then came pc players, then came meshing and duping, then came even more cheats, now you can control a character that’s not even yours. Bet since they disabled PC players on official not one cheater report ticket has been submitted

I’ve never seen anyone on console have aimbot that didn’t get banned within 2-3 hours like console banned, cause at that point you have to have custom scripts and altercations to the system and that gets really expensive really quick I’d assume

In order to fix what all the victims lost the servers are being rolled back to a save on the 19th when they solve the issue
