I will not be getting Ark 2. They are so unprofessional. They have changed the prices from what was originally told to us several times for ASA. The bugs and delays, and the lack of keeping us informed about the delays, (Rag release for ASA) makes it to where I no longer want to support any additional projects. I love playing Ark but all the issues from ASE and even more with ASA, I can no longer support WC. Moving on to other games.

It's a Y-shaped bridge as it also might FINALLY explain the connection between the Ark Survivor & the Genesis Survivor as even the writer basically gave up due to the plothole of Rockwell not recognizing the Survivor, even if you literally defeated him in Aberration and Genesis 1.

Personally, I just want them to level it out and just make the Ark Survivor upload their current engramic matrix into the superluminal link and go on to inhabit their Genesis Clone's body in Genesis Part 1 & 2. It's easy, simple, and concise. Especially since other Ark 2 survivors have memories from the Arks, presumably because of either our actions in the DLC or Mei Yin Li's.

We still have to mostly deal with the Aratai's, and possible (let's be real here, 100%) Element return.

But I do think that talk would've been better as a in-game event that would allow new players to catch up with the universes narrative, then a trailer scene that we may or may not get again in the final product.

It's more likely any time after Gen 2 releases as that will come with a paid BTT. Both Lost Island and Crystal Isles are non-story maps and free content, so it's possible Ark 2 wouldn't necessarily be held until after those.

It would be made from the ground up out of necessity, at least on the back end side of things. If it were just an expansion for ASA WC would just be reusing the same interation/quality of engine version they're using now.

Take the bits of C++ that are either constants or provably work and apply that to iteration of UE5 that Ark 2 is using and move on from there. Probably leauges more complicated than that.

I get why people may not like the idea but personally, I think souls like combat in ark would be amazing if implemented correctly. Ark combat mechanics are currently very clunky so it's definitely an area that could be improved. I Imagine Souls-style boss fights with giant dinos would be sick. Learning attack patterns and surviving long encounters could be thrilling, especially if they can get mounted combat mechanics dialed in. The problem I see is that souls-like combat is hard to balance in multiplayer, especially PvP so it would really need to be tuned properly to the ark environment.

Because they get a ton of them, don’t have the staff to deal with them, and because not all tickets are honest. This has been a problem since 2015 for Ark, and why I continuously recommend people don’t play official PvP in Ark 1 or 2 if they want a fair competitive experience

ARK-2, in theory, is suppose to be more technologically impressive in a gaming sense, impressive compared to ASA/ASE.

Way I imagine it is like compared Fallout 3/New Vegas's gunplay to Fallout 4's.

We can agree to disagree if Fallout 4 was better or worse in the narrative and RPG department. But it objectively had a better and smoother gunplay then any previous Fallout title before.

They'd only would need to make two, which is not that much for a animation department.
Then just reverse the keyframes of the two, to get all four directions.
And while I wouldn't know where to start with it. They could just have dodging as a universal stat in the Blueprint like walking speed is for current ARK creatures. And just adjust how fast/far the dodge can go to align it with the animation.
Also, a LOT of theropods are shaped the same. So they could just have a universal Theropod skeleton that they all share, and so only need to make that one batch of animations for each four directions.

Semantics aside. The hardest part would be the coding, but once they get that down. They can just make that coding a slider so they can copy and paste that Blueprint for every other creature, and adjust the dodging.
That's how stats and everything else works in ARK-1.
Every creature is inherited from one creature blueprint class that has all of the functions.

But increase it to like a 4 on a raptor, and that MF be ZOOMING.

The reason this happened is because Ark 2 was in development but had to be delayed because snail suddenly drained their finances and WC had no money to make Ark 2 (which needed much more time to release) - so they pivoted to a faster project and released asa

This! A lot of people don’t understand that UE5 is still in its infancy, and developers don’t have a lot of experience with it. They think it’s as simple as copy and paste old code over new. Do you realize just how many bugs and other issues that could cause? True, the two versions are compatible with each other, but only to a certain extent. If it takes another 1-3 years for them to release a game based on technology that is still very new, then so be it. I don’t think it would hurt to have a game that has gone through thorough development and QA before release.

And before y’all start saying, “Well Fortnite runs on UE5 just fine.” Remember that even those developers had to take time to learn how UE5 works before they implemented it into their game.

Considering my library is over 1000 games I don’t even need ark two. People are failing to consider the fact that competition has tripled since the 90s and early 2000s. We’re living within an industry and world where repeated ideas are encouraged, and game breaking changes are forced.

I have so many open world, survival games, RPG games, role-playing games and competitive games, that I couldn’t possibly get enough out of the current Ark ascended before a few years anyway. I’m starting to wonder if the average player just does not have a lot of money and library count. Between professional game testing and soon college for programming, I have to pick and choose what I rotate most. 😅

What people should really be asking themselves is how long live service games will last once licensing constraints occur. As long as places like Nitrado exist, there will be alternate ways to purchase servers outside of the official, even if they were to shut down eventually, which I’m sure they will.

In any event, the first game still needs so much work. Like you said there are so many things that could go wrong and the first game hasn’t even been improved enough for them to be forcing Ark 2 down everyone’s throats. 7 days to Die for example, never fully released the first version of the game, then they re released another unfinished version of the game. The most recent update broke a lot of maps. It was supposed to fix that problem, but if it was already corrupted before that you’re pretty much screwed.

A lot goes into these kinds of games and it’s extremely easy for things to get corrupted and lost .

This whole argument is a bit strange. It’s like saying “there’s too much music for me to ever listen to, so why make new songs?”

Live service games last as long as they make money and there’s no alternative revenue for someone to fall back on…so that one’s easy. What concerns me way more is the idea of live service ownership of your actual game (ie Steam games aren’t yours anymore). What ark 2 promises to be isn’t just another repeat - it’s a return to what made Ark 1 so remarkable in 2015, which is that it trail blazed an entire genre of experience. You don’t need to play 10,000 hours of every game you own to move to the next one anymore than you need to become an Olympian to enjoy a Saturday night game of pickup basketball…but people do have preferences on what games to play, and I’ll speak for myself in saying that I’m simply not interested in Ark 1 anymore like I am in what Ark 2 seems to be

I get what you're saying, but the first game won't ever be 'fixed' in the way that people wanted it to be. ASA was made to be more of the same with a few new things like Lost Colony and Bobs Tall/True Tales etc. Every game studio and IP evolves over time, and it hasn't been that way for Ark for quite a while. Ark 2, whether you're interested in it or not, gives WC a wholly new opportunity to make the changes we as players would like to see for the series going forward. I'm not saying this you in this instance, but I get the impression that more people are married to the idea of what Ark is as opposed to the reality of it not aging well. You can have too much of a good thing, and ASE/A/Aquatica has proved that more or less. At least Lost Colony is wholly new in a way that ASA has needed for a while, but even it as a DLC has marketed Ark 2 more than it has itself frankly.

I believe we're all high on copium, wishing back the times where ARK was a fresh experience. Because if we get the same thing just with better/alternate graphics, I dont think its gonna be what we actually want.

i think the main reason why we liked ARK so much was that it opened the doors to something completly unique and original. A way to play a game that hasnt been seen before. And it proved to be successful. Now u can see many games going for a similar style: Atlas, Conan Exiles, Grounded, Palworld, ( Crosswind, Under a Rock )...

So the new thing has become the old thing.

Asa is what some players wanted because of the reasons you describe - can’t argue with that. But the sticking point for me is that WC did a horrific job with marketing ark 2 to somehow make it seem like it isn’t a logical extension of Ark 1. Ark 2 is a survival game, and it says as much. But people believe it will be an RPG because WC kept using keywords that implied that despite a deeper read of their thinking always ultimately showing Ark 2 is a survival game

They should NOT add that to ASA.
5.5 update broke so much shit, and that was just an engine upgrade.
Souls-like combat would require completely tearing apart any combat mechanics in ASA, and remaking it from the ground up.
Who knows what type of shit will corrupt with that.
Either way, not everyone wants/likes the concept of souls-like combat in ARK. So the entire point of ASA was to have an update ARK-1 experience so you can stick with that, if you don't like ARK-2.

As well, a solid half of the community complained about ARK-2 and how it doesn't sound like ARK, due to souls-like combat and a primitive-only focus. So that's more suited for a new game then a DLC.
Also, realistically money.
You can charge a DLC for 30$, maybe 40$.
But you can charge a new game 60$ to 70$.

I feel the same way. I have so many games to juggle that I have little to no interest in learning another game like this. I guess I’ll let the kids do it because it’s getting overwhelming trying to invest in games that never fully evolve and then we move onto a new game instead of fixing the first one.

ASA uses EOS (epic online services) for crossplay.
non-dedi uses the platform's respective system for joinability. without that it'd require port-forwarding which defeats the purpose of non-dedi.
there are other ways to do so obviously but it'd require a pretty significant update which I find unlikely to happen for Ark 2. who knows if they do it tho, enitrely up to them.
