If they want the game to be as big as they're boasting in the steampage, they should probably wait if they can for the console hardware to be accessible first.
We don't want a Cyberpunk situation where it's unironically unplayable pre-patches on last-gen consoles, but works decently fine (performance wise, not bugs) on next-gen.

I built my pc to be able to play ASA and Ark 2, so it’ll last until the system requirements for those games are the minimum for any AAA game, and even then that’s assuming I want to play new games at that point, if not it’ll last even longer unless something super unfortunate happens

My biggest worries personally, is the seemingly "primitive only" playstyle ARK-2 is going for. Which, ARK was objectively never a primitive game. It had fabricators day-one and flak armor.

If it’s primitive only it could very well make raids a tad more interesting. You’ll have to rely more on critters than laying a blanket of c4. Ballista turrets for defense and species x would be interesting to see utilized more but I’m sure there’s other avenues. Could always make a pyro-plant that acts as a flame thrower or some kind of halo needler themed species.

I would like to see an option for Official servers in Ark 2 to allow tribes to declare war, which will only allow a certain % of players from each tribe to be online at once, with priority joining.
Say 70 population server, Tribe 1 can have 25 whitelisted players, Tribe 2 can have 25 whitelisted players, and then there's 20 people leftover who can join.
Meaning the whole 'I am safe cause 70/70 players online' and the constant server-dropping issues can be avoided

In general I really dislike where Ark PvP servers are currently at. They have an amazing opportunity to incorporate many cool balance changes in Ark 2.
Maybe you could see all Tribes on your current server, and tribes without any activity would auto-kick members (until 0 members remaining = tribe deleted).
Similar to structure delay* but for inactive tribes + tribemembers
Rather than logging in 5 years later and still seeing yourself in the same Tribe.

Flintlocks is a cool concept, something like that would be nice to see deflected by a metal shield to level the playing field. But some type of cap to technology that is learned on your own, so you would have to find some point of interest, boss fight or maybe even a wave survival mini game at said point of interest to unlock the knowledge at the end of the dungeon run.

Flintlocks would definitely serve the theme considering how many pirate boat builds made the game great in early ASE. I would also love to say more tiers and varieties to make it so a few bobs with some levels on them could still hold their own to some degree against a end game Indiana jones cowboy with twin revolvers. Maybe repeater crossbows ? Like a modification bench similar to fallout 4? Where I start with a cross bow but I swap out the wood for a Dino femur that’s carved to work as a crossbow and increases durability? Maybe I add the mod to give it a repeater mechanism because I completed a dungeon cave that unlocked the “repeater mod” now that could pose dangerous in the hands of someone end game where that “flintlock pistol” has six barrels that repeat like the fable 2 pistol we all know and love lol

Adding onto the tiers comment, progressing through the ages is what I loved in ark. using bronze and tin swords then iron until steel was the end goal. Showcasing different tiers of weapons considering you won’t always have iron and carbon laying around in one location. If you want that fancy suit of armor you’re going to need to scavenge hard for all the components to smelt it. Same goes for that two handed halberd.

Adding onto my siege statement, could very well add those mods onto mounted siege turrets and ballistas. But ideally I wouldn’t want to see any heavy fabrication. It should feel like Indiana jones is exploring the wilds learning as he goes in a low fantasy yet science fiction world where you could easily get scalped by a cave man or blown your wig off by a flintlock inquisitor.

Oh without a doubt I’m sure they would speed run some dungeons to unlock anything if that’s the way they want to develop the game. Even if it’s slow, PvP will be working as fast as it can to endgame - best way to curtail that is to simply make the gap smaller

IE you still have progression and time investment, but the hard stat benefit isn’t so large that you instantly wipe people with less progression

Ofc you also want to make sure whatever you want to see IS the endgame…otherwise it’ll just be whatever your endgame is. Which is why I’m hoping to have slow firing guns as endgame in ark 2 with a much greater focus on melee and arrows/spears

Eh idk about the gap being small I have to agree with the slow firing guns in retrospect of making the game more enjoyable though. If anything there should be a large gap but with game changing modification for each weapon class/tier like I said if you had a flintlock but I had a repeater cross bow I may end up winning even though it would take longer to load my weapon. I think those schematics should be rewarded as a procedural probability after completing a trial like I mentioned earlier. You won’t know what you’ll get but it won’t be the same engram twice in a row. What could also make a slow firing gun see even playing fields is if they added special attributes to melee weapons. Like if a blunt two handed weapon added stun that also blinded you or made lighting unbearable similar to a concussion lol or if blades / jagged arrows added severe bleeding causing most players to panic and stop the injury from draining them dropping their ranged weapon temporarily.

Absolutely , if anything it should be limited to new server maps! So if you have progressed with your tribe far enough on the first release server. And you went to say a server that allowed furthered tech in regards to the tek armor or in my hopes just riot armor and modern weaponry lol then you couldn’t leave with any tech or resources to go back to the more primitive server. Keeping that in mind if you did get wiped you could always go back with your tribe mates and have some level of safety while you grow your Dino army and farmers again to progress to that stage again. Basically think how they placed restrictions on the obelisks when they first introduced a new map, old shit could transfer in to the new but nothing new could transfer out not even a blue gem lol

Fully automatic weapons in ark are not and have never been the issue. The range, damage and trajectory speed is more of why guns are strong.

New combat system with dodges and combos, a skill tree where u can learn abilities and other useful mechanics like taming, world events (there were like hurricanes on the sea ocasionally that could damage ur ship and move it to different directions and the sea also became a lot more violent in it's waves) all of these have been mentioned in the steam page for ark 2

And other mechanics that improved upon what ark has which are still not confirmed on ark 2 like the foundation claiming system being replaced by a flag that claims a certain area and has limited uses for ur tribe, raiding timer (u could only raid X Tribe at a certain hour or day i dont remember how it worked fully anymore😅), an aging system, managing vitamins with eating certain foods and the structure cycling system ASA is using now!

I firmly believe Wildcard were intentionally testing how these mechanics would fair in a released game, also ark 2 probably started development around late 2017 and early 2018 because i vividly remember seeing an interview with Jeremy that stated they were making something behind the curtains after Extinction that wasn't meant to be anything related to ASE

Given their track record of "quality level" I wouldn't even call it begging for polish. It's more like begging for average quality.
eg: We're over 7 years since release, over 9 since EA happened, and Evolved still feels like an "early, early access" title in many ways.
I haven't tried Ascended, but from what I hear, it's like applying a new coat of paint on the UI and QoL systems that should have simply been part of the base game over 5 years ago. Meanwhile many of the bugs from Evolved still remain. And of course the choice to also label it early access, while removing official evolved servers and ostensibly still working on Ark2, even though they've essentially been silent on that for years now.

Like, you compare this game to Conan Exiles, and while I wouldn't call the player movement or building mechanics great; they're at least competently implemented and I can't think of any major issues I had with placement or snapping, etc. Whereas even something as simple as sloped roof tiles are like wrestling a toddler into their bed when they don't want to sleep yet, to get them to snap in a logical way to walls or other structural pieces. And my character frequently gets stuck on spots of geometry that shouldn't matter.

If they had the money to hire Vin Diesel for advertising, they should have been rolling that money into finish Evolved instead.

I won’t argue with the claims here, because imo it’s absolutely a misuse of funds to spend a ton on marketing a game that’s so far from release. Nor will I argue that ark’s mechanics are…always working as intended. My point was moreso that people have been buying ark and its DLCs for years while the ongoing “sloppy” issues people complained about persisted. I’m holding out hope that Ark 2 can rebuild from scratch some of the basic mechanics like building and taming to be more consistent and engaging, but it remains to be seen if sloppy implementation will slow sales

Comparing Conan to ark as if Conan was any better is kinda funny. Conan is just as buggy and broken, but people care less because they play it less because frankly it's gameplay loop is less interesting. The single biggest issue that Asa has is one of performance, but that is mostly due to the complexity of the game and engine. Bringing up building in ase and saying it's bad without seeing the vast improvements in Asa on building is kinda funny tho. Asa building is the best I have seen in any game.

I played a new early access game around 6 months ago called Foundry. One of those true early access games where it's basically in an alpha state. But at the end of the day, money talks, and if the playerbase didn't raise enough of a stink to fix it over the last 7+ years then obviously they will put their efforts into new revenue generation rather than fixing things.

If they had world placements/ruins like the Rhynio dossier, I would consider them canon. But as it stands, there's no real evidence outside of a single tradition they've been doing for almost 10 years.

They're different

ASE and ASA are considered ARK-1.
ASE is the original version of ARK-1, while ASA is the remake.

And ARK-1's story is concluded unless they REALLY change Gen2's ending for some reason.
Lost Colony is just a filler story map to help connect Ext's storyline with Gen1. So I don't see how they can reliably add this into Lost Colony without either redoing some of the earlier notes, or just be lazy, add it in, possibly piss off some of the lore community, and never mention this one and done feature the implants can do ever again.
Basically, adding it just to add it.

Though, I can see some reference of this being made in some explorer note of a Federation member during The Collapse, mentioning that they helped make the implants with the U.R.E.
They initially tried to make a feature for the implant that allowed it to materialize items into it. But the implants kept having issues where it'd keep spitting out a destroyed version of that item, so they just scrapped it.

Gen1's glitches are 60% pop-culture references, and 40% nods towards actual ARK, the video-game glitches.

So, just learned of this book called "Children of Time"
Basically from what I understand, it's main focus is how a species of spiders on a terraformed world evolved to become sapient and tribal-like with the influence of an AI overseeing the evolution of the planet.
I kind of hope we get something like that for ARK-2. As every species that came from the Genesis-ship are genetically modified to not only breed faster and mature hella fast, but also are abnormally smarter then their IRL counterparts.

But wdym smaller dinos? Like, activated abilities?

Modern Ark has no attention to these things. The server rates are constantly boosted, and the default rates are arguably too high. New dinos and tek both nullify any logistic issues found in earlier versions of Ark.

I would love to see Ark 2 have a focus on the PvP/Raiding side of things, but it can't really be anything like ASA is currently. The premise is simple though: stuff is hard to get, it's hard to thrive, but it's also really hard to raid. More outside base shenanigans, rather than cave meta

Not possible as long as people have unlimited tribe sizes and unlimited resource grinding available to them (intrinsic to the genre). If it’s too easy to defend, servers get locked down and the PvP is dead. Too easy to attack and nobody but round the clock megas get to play. It’s a hard system to figure out (and kinda why I’d argue “open” sandbox PvP is a near unsolvable genre for all but the most dedicated tribes)

What I’d like in ark 2 are way more PvP/competitive modes that don’t need me to spend 8-16 hour days grinding just to do the PvP

the environment should the big main limiter for all the PvP hungry players and for it to be a more even playing field in my opinion, dinosaurs, weather, map and food and water should be even more dangerous to detriment more dominating tribes and keep them in their toes

I believe Conan has some base defense pve wave system X day that makes u have to defend ur base or something like that, this would be crazy good if it happened more often or made it harder for bigger tribes and was something a bit less problematic for smaller tribes, if this was getting avoided by making smaller tribes and allying, alliances would be affected too, and if they didn't ally they would have the problem of not knowing who's who, allowing for maybe another player to infilitrate and whatever, u get the jist

I imagine though most people would find making the environment and things like food and water harder to fight against more annoying, but to be honest, that's the point of survival, and i honestly find joy in something like this, micro managing and being clever with each move u do where other players are struggling as much as u are, this is what I would wish for ark 2 to be (which it won't), but hell maybe some mechanics like the base defense system could be implemented to limit bigger tribes abusing smaller ones all the time (also no flyers ty)

The reality here is that more time + number of people is gonna be stronger than less time and less people. You can’t fix that fundamental inequality from scaling out of control unless you clamp progression somehow

You can either wipe things regularly or you can clamp the amount of advantage time + people gives you, which is extremely difficult

Much as I’d love a tougher, scrappier survival experience in ark 2, it won’t matter for megas because they’ll be the best equipped to handle it and thus navigate around it to screw others over

For PvE tho it’ll just be awesome

There are ways to "balance" that or at least mitigate it, such as resource production/farming capping.

An example of this irl would be that it's easy to have food for 1 horse, but running an army of cavalry is much more of a logistical issue. Pvp at scale should require a lot more of the logistics in the actual mechanics instead of just being managing people

Plus it would open up a whole new genre of pvp in ark where people with real world skill would go from useless to valuable in a tribe at scale

I don't anticipate this being implemented in Ark2 because honestly I doubt thst wc is really that capable at making a system as in depth as that
