#ark-2

Dare i be excited over ASA or are they gonna pull an Ark on it
be excited, but also be healthily skeptical
I’m looking forward to winter wonderland drops as people won’t have skiffs and dragons to get to them first, it will be argy racing
2 weeks left of officials. No ASA updates. Trying hard to be optimistic
i wont worry about it unless theres another delay
Ark really employed every classmate that didnt have any schoolproject finished in time
programmers be like that honestly
im starting to realize 80% of cs people are just there because they spent too much time gaming and never had any other valuable hobby
Delay seems somewhat inevitable at this point. Nothing on steam. Zero gameplay only random theatrical trailers.
cs?
programmers
Computer science
ah
Nah been confirmed in general chat to be October still
A hobby doesn't need to be valuable. Its what you do in your free time. People are allowed to have fun 😬
no i get that
but like, most engineers ik actually do a lot of projects before getting into the major
most science majors ik studied their respective science
but most cs people ik never really did cs
actually, mechanical engineering is also kinda like this
even business majors usually have some experience with investment and stuff
but cs? its always the default major
want money but havent developed skills prior to now? major cs
What does this have to do with Ark 2?
someone said wc only hired the kids who always turned things in late
i said that thats basically programmers as a whole
yea i didnt find an asa chat
there isnt ine
this is the asa chat until asa releases, then youll just use the general and ark chats
they delayed the adding of that
The point of Majoring is to develop those skills 🤔
I know I had no applicable skill when I started learning Physics/Engineering.
Still has no obvious reason to be in this chat, still wildly unrelated...
slight detour, doesnt matter
sure, but practically most people in physics actually studied physics casually, engineers generally played around with parts and made projects or are obsessed with tech
Lets talk about the recent Ark2 news
oh wait 😂
/j
Cant really talk about ark 2 stuff since they never release shit 💀
all the ark2 convos have been had
Well, they gotta live up to the accusations, right?
Squeezing out every last drop of the ark 2 content we have
(not really but nobody wants to say anything new)
i blame the people who exclusively come here to bash ideas
Im only bashing the delays
the people i refer to arent active anymore
if they are, there arent any new ideas to bash anyhow
"I cant be hurt anymore"
just open transfers 😭
sacrifice the 5-20 people tribes
to save the 1-5 people ones
More delays=games are more polished, just look at TotK
But give us a damn real delay and not these 10 shitty optimistic ones
Got so delayed, but because Nintendo knows how to make games, it was ok and everyone agreed it was a good thing
Better say it comes in 2 years and finish early then to dissapoint 10 times over with optimistic short delays
as it stands im apathetic to the release date
i think it would be really annoying to the people who still have a lot of time to play ark but now all the servers are dying because everyone is waiting on asa
The game was functionally ready to ship in like mid 2022 or some such, but they delayed to refine the physics engine
theyve done it with every dlc and project
would be fine if it was 1-2 times
Whoevers putting deadlines are the number 1 optimist on earth
does it matter tho
which thing
delays
Yes
like excluding cases where a game is delayed multiple years in short delays
To the current age overly needy gamer, yes
since then its just spam news
Im convinced it’s part of there marketing scheme, get more people talking about it weather it’s good or bad .just want the attention lol
The current average gamer is basically just a shareholder in disguise, but with no real reason to be listened to
Theres no negative effect on hype and community bec of all the small delays revolving this?
the community is apathetic
I think most people outside of the group youre mentioning have similiar thoughts tbh
but the community is addicted to ark
The game gets all that back as soon as release date hits, so no 😂
## addicts
Nah i think they lose quite a bit of traffic from arks rumours and behaviour
it unironically might be better to delay just so people forget about the conquest incident
Other games that have done the same but on a smaller scale have lost alot of traffic
since nobody talks about ark ezcept in that case
Mustve missed all of them
Because they weren't wildly successful and unique, yeah
I think it hurts more than doing good tho, bec when it actually releases people have MUCH much higher expectations and if it dont then the reviews will be "Well why the delays bla bla bla"
Overwatch 2 for example
its basically dead now, and was from release
Because it was shit, no?
But Overwatch1 did great
Not just delayed, it was cut to ribbons content-wise
I assure you, it wasn't the delays that killed OW2 LMAO
tried to build up hype and create a polished game, everyones expectations skyrocketed but they released a overwatch 0.75
Yep
Partly
Just saying that there are examples where the release doesnt just revive the game and hype
There were far more factors in OW2's demise, though. It's somewhat of an unfair comparison
sons of the forest
Pretty sure that was rather successful, was it not?
ya it was
but we have to make it look like the delays were the reason it failed, not the awful changes made to said games
No it was horrendous at launch with the ending
people don't play the forest for the ending for the most part
and they've since updated it.
The reviews were shit, price and content didnt match
Then idk what SotF you were playing, maybe the Ark one 🤣 ?
Brother it had 10 minutes of gameplay
to finish the story
It's a great game, I still play every now and then
I could never get to that SotF ending 😭
Yeah, if you cheated
If you ran from spawn past everything
#ripstickspeedruncheese
## wowsers
Which... wasn't part of the main design of the game? What are you getting at lol
No we were talking about games that got delayed and still didnt get a successful launch
I played sons of the forest on launch. Our family played together, we explored the island and eventually beat the game, it was a great experience all around.
Youre jumping past the point we were talking about tho
What about the backlash then
We are going to play it again when it enters full release
You're just factually wrong
Jumping past the point but sure
I also await full release, gonna be so cash
The Forest players knew what they were getting, some others didn't. Really not that hard to parse why some reviewers were so harsh on the game, and reviews aren't everything
This guy you talking to just doesn't like exploration games or something?
Read from the start
It's like saying Ark was trash on release because it only had like 10 dinos and no breeding
Yall really keep pushing past the point, not what the arguement was about
People exploded onto Ark when it first released
what was it about then? Summarize. I kept scrolling and it was still going. Not reading that.
Then what is your argument? You keep saying this, but I've been rebutting the same point from the get-go
That history has shown that some games, with delays to improve the released product, doesnt always turn out good
This is said point I was referring to, just to be sure
hurts reputaion and other factors that could be avoided if many delays wasnt there
Ah, so it is the same point
I'm just trying to understand where the point I was arguing against changed, you kept saying I was ignoring it when it was the only point I was going off of...
Its fine, not in the mood to keep arguing
Understandable, it's ok to just say that, you know
If that was in fact the crux of the situation
Yea i dont have any interest to keep arguing where people keep being passive agressive and on purpose trying to make you sound dumb, also no energy lol
I am in no way trying to make you sound dumb, just pointing out the facts and arguing my understanding of the conversational piece at hand 🤷♂️
Facts ☝️
This is one of the most laid back arguments Bruising has ever participated in (as an FYI)
Delays to release aren’t a deal killer IF the product is able to reclaim that audience after launch. That can come from marketing, a strong product, lack of competition, etc, but the point is that the delays themselves aren’t an issue IF the surroundings are ok
100% agree
anti cheat and fix exploits would make any version of ark popular again
My concerns are because the surroundings don’t seem to be ok 😂
Consumers are on a crusade to cancel SG. WC is being a lot erratic about the development of their two games. Also very erratic, PR wise, about all their products, including the series.
I hope everything goes back to track after ASA’s release next month.
is there a ASA channel?
Every, and I mean 100%, game is exploitable by cheats and glitches. What they can do is make it harder to exploit.
No
this channel
Wouldn't really say little to no information/radio silence is "erratic", they did this with almost every DLC release until they... well, had information to share
Actually radio silence was their best decision so far. I mean before, when they talked. 😂
Is ASA just a OW2 situation ? Should i wait for Ark2 ?
OW2?
overwatch 2
whats ow2 situation
Same game new title
So no, it’s not. At least based on the info we have so far.
its literally a remake idk what youre expecting
Just curious
WC has had erratic PR since day 1 tho. Nothing new imo
like theyll touch up on some mechanics and add some more content
but the quality range with that is immense
so i dont think its enough info to imply itll be bad by calling it similar to ow2
now, other problrms with wc, you can take issue with
Never said Ow2 was bad, i’m sure they made plenty of money
like balance changes and stuff
its the implication tho, since everyone else calls ow2 trash and thats a strong association now
but yeah the game isnt designed to be significantly diffetent from ase if thats what you mean
OW2 is bad, so uh yeah that's the thing you led with lmao
OW2 was in large respect a scam and a failure though. You had to repay for OW1 (which was entirely disabled for paying players), and the PvE mode was cancelled
ark2 will be the actually different game
Ark 2 and asa will not render anything in ASE unplayable except official servers - which is fine because all other unofficial play is available
whenever that comes out (2025 🤞 )
Ah so ASA is the funding they need for Ark2
Sure, that’s true. Hence why I still have high hopes for ASA and Ark 2, but I’d say I’m hopefully concerned.
I’d only be worried about the release date. The product will be fine
Just set expectations of “ark but a bit better” for asa and “ark but objectively better” for ark 2 and you’re good
And even then, if you're worrying about a release date for a video game, you have greater issues 😅
you can think of it that way if you want
I hope you are right. ASA can be really good.
thats more or less my theory of why asa is being sold for 40
it will help fund it, but was it made just to help fund Ark 2 and not to make both sides of the community happy? unlikely
Reasoning: 70% to fund Ark 2 and 30% to please the people that won’t like Ark 2
I’d like to know how bad the financial state is at WC
Likely not bad
Both can be true, it helps the funds in a smaller company. As well as gives people a look into what the new game engine will start offering.
It going to be a pretty good upgrade regardless with the fact they maintained a single game for 8 years.
No major layoffs or anything that indicates a serious bind
You won’t, but they earned a lot of money in those 8 years
If asa flops that’s another story
the latest ive seen is 35 but thats a 2019 number
im sure they hired more since then to develop asa/ark2
If ASA flops I would say they are pretty much done
i think theyll take some loans out for ark2 then
its ark2 i imagine everything rests on
Not broken, but done in the sense people will be totally distrustful about them
When looked up it only showed 2018, so just 5 years ago they had 35-38 employees
My guess is an ASA flop will harm the scope of ark 2. And if ark 2 flops that’s big bad
and big sad
if ark2 flops the company is over
shi hai will go back to burning flash games to the ground
and wc devs go to some random indie studio idk
i cant imagine the devs arent highly sought after considering what theyve managed so far design wise
They pull about 20 million a year, wonder how much the 4 founders take
i mean average income assuming 100% of that goes to income is like 500k
It’s got 98 employees per their linkedin
they could lose out on 80% of that to snail or smthn and still make good money
Would you give money to a company with their history(taking into account ASA failing)?
ill give them a 10% loan
Operating costs likely means only about 40-60% is on personnel
still a lotta money
10-30%
Guess i have to take back my blame of them not hiring anyone. Don’t make enough money to.
They’ve hired a lot of people actually
Says they are hiring on their website, if anyone’s looking for a job
how tf are credit card companies at 25 %
I remember they used to publish cartoons with their staff
What they've done so far? They have an exceptionally good MMO open world game with a ton of moving parts that has been successful for almost a decade now. The devs that are higher up in the credits of the game if they wanted to could probably go anywhere.
Coming from someone like me who grades open world games at the level of What Rockstar Games does which is a heavy grade. Wildcard has done honestly a fantastic job with what they have had to work with.
And the numbers were growing year after year
it’s what it should have always been
that’s why americas in the mess we are in. If interest rates would have been higher all these years
we would be sitting ncie as a country
i think youd need a decent education system first but also idk if mods are online
but the jokes of people they hire for economics for the government don’t understand 🤦♂️ nor do the masses
If the interest rates are low that’s when u should worry
maybe ill study macroeconomics one day
America needs more people to lol
in the meantime ill try to produce tangible goods
Some excellent free material is out there for economics that teaches you the basics. Stuff like why low interest rates are good if you want to encourage borrowing
i get that
That’s not always true. It depends on what kind of cycle the economy is
but that wont allow me to argue about economics
i need to at least exceed the average junior undergrad in econ
Only bad comes from low interest rates
Getting off topic of Ark 2 and ASA
Only bad comes from negative interest rates
Low interest rates are ok, as long as you are in the right cycle for that
Not at all… bad education does
I mean, there are productive loans and bad loans
You can business without credit
Redistributing blame is a common theme in this server lol
And depending on the economic cycle, you just can’t have high interest rates
Should cycle medium and high, low interest rates cause a terrible amount of consequences and they don’t make up for it
Can bring it back on topic of at least Ark lol
Yeah that’s my bad
If ase servers are going down the 30, it means asa servers will be up in the next day?
We can hope, cross your fingies
the devs will surprise us with 1 month of touching grass actuslly
no ark offi for you until Halloween
good
Based WC moment tbh
What would also be based? An ingame market system. That may actually make me want to play ark 2 official
(it won't make me touch ark official ever again regardless)
Idk. I do love me a good player driven market economy…get me some fun crafting or looting systems and a market to sell them and I have a purpose to play an MMO again
I would like a Fear Ascended Event, just saying
The sad thing is Atlas had nice ideas, including that one, they should have implemented a system where you would be able to set up stores in the Freeports. I have no idea if they did, because I quit playing it.
The real question is; will we get Fear Evolved on ASA this year? 😉
the better graphics offer a lot more potential
but i dont think the devs can make ark scary
superman thyla that jumps at you accros the map as soon as it can get to you in a straight line
cannonball skin that turns them into pumpkins
Halloween colors are some of the most disgusting colors in Ark, all orange-brown shit, would be a terrible way to start ASA
Really? I like the orange and browns
I guess it could be worse, some of the other events are definitely more immersion ruining (ie full red, or white, or green dinos at xmas)
Yeah, the oranges and muted whites are really nice imo, Halloween probably fav event overall (music, content, skins, the whole thing)
It shouldn’t be scary though. It should be like an horror comedy movie, like it’s been for the past events.
Indeed, also dodorex, dodowyvern and their minions. No other event beats it.
seems someone dosent know that ASA will be release on early access
95% sure no events will happen until next year
Seems someone doesn’t know ASE had events while in early-access
and yet you still dont get it
I don’t, what do you mean?
not happening
You have inside information? or just supposition?
too much will be going on for them to make a event this year
Maybe, depends on the prep they have done
5% chance apparently lol.
still aint bad 5% chance, i could give 0%
Where are you getting that percentage?
my years of ark exp
...
Still would be awesome to see what they put out in ASA. So much more they can do there, hopefully with less buggy interuptions.
ence why i say no events
I am interested to see what engine they are using
they gonna spend rest of the year figuring out problems whit ASA otherwise there is no point of making ASA if is going to be the same thing as ASE
5.2 last we were updated.
Well 5.2 was the most recent, but 5.3 just released. Are they going to be advancing with it?
can they make update jumps whitout having problems on coding?
yeah we will have to see, they will likely try to stay with the most stable.
cause yeh i sough 5.3 and makes a huge diference for sure
I think the new engine makes the upgrades alot easier these days.
Every version of ue5 makes a big difference
If ark ascended releases next month how is there still 0. Gameplay?
hi
Because
What shouldn’t it be nearly done
No. They even said it will be an early access release.
If you want something finished/polished, wait another (give or take).
So first gameplay will be released at launch
No idea
They also said they will share any trailers or gameplay until much closer to release
But I guess it will be released before the release
what is all the chatter about. is there some news?
No news
plus it will be only the island map whit not transfers until SE
Atlas imo failed because it didn’t learn from ark’s failures when it came to level design. Massive maps with horrendously long travel times and a too-deep (IE tedious) survival system coupled with a lot of the PvP baggage of ark made it a very tough sell
I like that idea. maybe a item storage space as well in that area.
is there going to be a ocean DLC as well? just reading the name @blissful perch
No, that’s my pitch
My strong argument is to have ark 2 release with NO ocean, and have a DLC entirely dedicated to it
sounds like a waste of money. maybe expand an ocean make it look really nice. coral reaf, new tames to that area. island , maybe a tyoe of build that helps adapt to the area...
That would all be standard expectations for a DLC commitment
I mean, oceans are so easy to make in ue5 that it doesnt make sense to not have one
Water is easy. Aquatic combat and mechanics are likely not
I’m not sure why it failed, but I didn’t quit because of the big map. I actually liked the big map. The main reason I quit is people from my company stopped playing it and there weren’t good unnoficials. So I just got back to Ark after ~6 months.
I know little about that but I am inclined to agree.
I think it's disappointing both caves + ocean became irrelevant for resources very early on into Ark
in terms of any rare resources*
Don’t you think the ability to travel between maps without having to teleport would be a good thing?
it failed cuz unofficials were stupid expensive to host.
Given they fix the traveling issues Atlas had
each quadrant was more money, in order to host the whole map it was about 9x the cost of hosting an Ark map
it is going to make raiding more fun. who like building in caves and trying to raid them?
Well, we had Blackwood, but the funny part about atlas was in part because of the huge map
Transfer like an obelisk or teleport like Gen 1?
Transfer actually
Teleport would be fine
But limiting what you can carry with you while teleporting/fast traveling
I know it’s cannon in ASE the arks are totally segregated
But the new dlc could be a new large map from earth, or aratai before Ark 2
Having a large map, fixing the issues we saw in atlas, I think would be nice
Ue5 is capable of that by default
It depends on how the map is constructed. Physically large is meaningless if it doesn’t do something for gameplay
Of course, I was thinking on implementing new mechanics so it would be worth to have a large map
Like new way to do bosses. I liked the bosses in atlas, it was kinda a global event
But like someone said earlier, I don’t think huge changes like that would be implemented on ASA
I mean, its already worth having a large map for ark
IMO yes, but I think we would need some mechanics changes so it would worth
the larger the map the more space people can cram into and fight to be top dog.
Or it would just be an empty huge land
lol
Instead of having 20 servers with different maps in a cluster, we could have just one map, that’s what I think would be more interesting
100%
it must be nice to have huge map like you guys talking whit almost no life to it
“They would need to change some mechanics” would fix this
Ark 2 will have world events
Just use the huge map to host those world events
maybe set it up as a pangia or hawaiian island.
On the official side of it, having huge empty land is a definite plus
not even thinking about that, im just remember what cidric said once about cristal island having many part lifeless due the fact they hit the max wild dinos count before breaking the server
To build bases, yes
not sure how that will work whit UE5
TBF crystal is a community map, on an old engine for an old game
there will be some factors that will come into it. to see if it will work
Also, like raq said, empty spaces can be just places where players are supposed to occupy and build their bases
yeh that dosent work normally 🤣
i have see ppl building on top or right next to metal nodes so they havent to more around to grind 🤣
although thats pve
You cant tell me that a bigger map with evenly spread resources doesnt allow for more build locations in pve lol
PVE sucks in ark. Map filled with junk and key parts walled off. single player is the best PVE experence
if those areas aint flat enough to build their "little" castles it will be more empty space
It’s clear to me they never really cared about the official pve servers, or they would have implemented more exclusion zones for the maps
There are lots of mods and plugins just to fix that
yeh wc dont care or aleast gives the vibe they dont care much about the pve servers
I am ready for city skylines 2. It even comes out on my birthday.
That a personal preference not a factual statement.
As someone who started PvE briefly in official and transistioned to unofficial still PvE no specific mode will ever be suited for everyone, but one of the best parts of PvE is the player based economy and trading among others within the community of those servers.
Best experience was unofficial where auctions got held for anything you thought someone else might be interested in and we used ingots as universal currency during auctions.
I think missed his point
The fact you liked more the moderated unnofficial just corroborates with his point
Official pve serves are just a spam fest of structures
I am happy you had a better expence then me.
Caves with artifacts blocked
You can block entrances unfortunately
No, I hit the point cause single player in my opinion is the worst experience cause it just blanklessly going through motion with no player interaction.
Which falls under personal preference as I stated earlier. Some people can play solo in single player.
maybe when was on launch of ASE but since i play on ps4 that wasent possible
but blocking a obelisk yah you could for a certain time
Last time I checked, it was possible to block caves with artifacts
I feel like Ark is the kind of game that is best experienced online rather it PvP or PvE as player interaction drastically changes the experience
ence
You can’t build close to the artifacts, but it was possible to block the caves
if you put dinos there sure
lol we are way down the rabbit hole from ark 2, asa
Which is where unofficial becomes better than official especially if it discord managed with good admins to monitor the cluster closer than official can due to the large number of official servers
not really infact its a huge problem related of pve side of ark
It is for sure, but WC never cared much about pve. The best pve servers are unnofficials, because the people that run those can use ini/mods/plugins to fix what Wc didn’t
That’s my whole point
Im not saying single player is better, I’m saying official pve is broken
People really be not taking the aquatic terrain into account around here, smh my head 😂
I wouldn't say that, when the short time I played on official I did have two different tribes structures removed from land grabbing that allowed us to build where we wanted.
It just a matter of reporting enough information
Unfortunately most people will just move or give up, becaus the support takes too much time solve things
If they can make it as good as the second avtar with water seens it would be cool.
Blocking building would be more efficient
wait for ark two they should add water, air, earth and fire bending. LOL
Blocking points of interest of course
It obviously going to take time considering there tens of thousands of official servers and a company with less than 1000 employees
There arent tens of thousands of official servers though
That’s my point, it’s broken because it’s annoying to play like that
The point is still valid though
WC do not care about gamer experience. they only care about money in their hands. Hints all the griping as of late.
And the above message is a wonderful demonstration of why we dont have much info
I wouldn’t say that, but they just focused too much on pvp
The pvp community says they focus too much on pve.
They do, but that’s not true, and I’d call myself a pvp player, but when I tried pve I could tell they didn’t care much about this mode
If that was the case they wouldn't hold events as often as they do, they wouldn't push cross platform play and modding like they are, and they wouldn't hold community voting to determine what creatures get added.
Everything is balanced for pvp
I hope they keep me in the dark. I have not had the surprise of a game sense I was a kid. I want to boot it up and not know what I am getting but know it is going to be good.
it is like charismas but better.
Meaning?
Then you have lived blind to the most notorious company Rockstar Games that basically guarantee game of the year and when they announce a release other companies basically push safely around their title cause they know if they release to close to RG their game would be eclipsed in sells.
However that is off topic and my only response before we get back to Ark topic
I have heard of the, Looking them up and I see all titles; I would not even dream of playing yet alone paying for. Most people lack taste in good games.
Anyway I am happy I found ark. It was just what I was looking for in 2019.
I think it might be you who lacks taste for good games, they push the bar far beyond any company every time they release a game.
Wildcard I am hoping becomes the second tier company with how good ASE has been which is why I am looking forward to see how ASA and Ark 2 turn out to see where Wildcard stands for me.
it very well may be the case. I too am exiecty looking at how WC far's in the comming years.
Honestly I stand with the most people have poor taste in games arguement
Unreal Engine 5 definitely going to be something to check out.
Funny thing about this looking back, Ark had that in EA, they removed it though
Cross play going to make unofficial great at least for PvE as it going to open up a huge community opportunity for discord ran servers
Or rather, added arenas
Most people do have bad taste in games though, otherwise we wouldn't be getting the drivel we are typically getting these days. Think the yearly CoD and Battlefield shovelware, the mobile games out the wazoo, MTX garbage left and right, etc etc
Remember folks, you vote with your wallet
100% right
Without doubt, the last CoD I bought was BO4 and it was strictly for blackout. Haven't touched an FPS since. Shooters have turned inheritly toxic, but I put that to the PvP mindset of people because majority of PvP players all they care about is finding the meta to gain a superficial win or play as cheap as possible to make themself feel better.
Sportmanship in PvP is 1% nowadays
Yeah, most FPS are pretty bad in that regard, the only one I play that isn't singleplayer these days is Hunt: Showdown really, most people there are pretty sporting
But I'd definitely buy a new CoD if either the multiplayer was actually any fun and it was not super buggy or it at least had zombies, if even that (looking at you, Vanguard 😒)
Treyarch was the company that did zombies well until Activision started stepping on toes causing two of the founders to quit and go their own way. Activision ruined the zombie experience.
Really unfortunate, that
But to get back on topic..
I think I might look into two unofficial clusters ran seperately on ASA, one for purely PvE and one with strict arena based PvP rest PvE.
I'm likely going to be starting the same for my community, when the info about and ability to do so arises
Imo the easy part is a lifeless setting. The hard part is making it as immersive and complex as a terrestrial one, especially if ark 2 is raising the bar big time on what the standard land experience will be
Yeah, I just meant like the terrain/landscape of the underwater environments don't tend to get a lot of attention by players, the ecology and such.
I sure do love a big ocean with a bunch of random shit in it à la Gen 1, but I would like to see the environment actually make sense for the inhabitants too, seeing as Ark 2 isn't that hypercurated test tube baby rex that ASE was. These things actually had to evolve on Arat for (insert unspecified timeframe here) so I'd like to see the dinos all have their niche in the environments but also fit in visually and naturally, if that makes sense.
Also, I was basically just riffing on what everyone else said and agreeing with you in a (understandably rather obtuse) way lol
But anyways, yeah woohoo yeah ocean DLC all the way woohoo yeah
If caves were the focus of progression like Ark 1, yes I would agree
its the only way to make oceans very useful imo
Again, for Ark 1, sure
There's multitudes of ways they could make them more interesting in their own little DLC for Ark 2, though
And now my goddamn E key is going out, shit
oh this was for ark2
i dunno what theyll do with ark2 oceans
i hope food and organic material becomes more important over inorganic like metal nodes
make the game revolve around food or smthn
cap the actual armor and weapons to primitive, make the game revolve around food and stuff you get from dinos be the primary kit resources
so maybe you harvest hide from dinos but its durability is really low, so you constantly need to find new dinos for hide, and youll fight for those population centers
the oceans can be shallow and functjon as a place for random substances and food
Ahhh I getcha
basically i want everything to be more temporary
you can cap progress a bit to balance out the time requirements for constant upkeep
i dont want current food system ofc
but like make meat running the end game thing rather than metal farming
now you can just farm meat in a greenhouse xd
food and hydration is necessary I think, part of being a survival.
Only thing I could see being reasonable to reduce "grind" time is have smaller resource requirements and tone down the breeding time.
If ark 100 days videos weren’t primarily breeding I’d love the content so much more. Imo it’s imperative for ark 2 to find another time sink
Anyone who good at content creating would edit out most of that as off air time I would think.
They do - but hearing “I spent X days breeding” and X is somewhere between 40-60 of the days of the video…it’s painful
I do agree breeding could be cut down on official, that honestly what pushed the group I play with to unofficial.
Cutting out stat mutations (or at minimum the need for them to complete the game) would also be great
That where I disagree, stat and color mutation was really what made breeding worth doing
I’d so much rather those 100 days videos be about the struggle to survive or the lucky break events than “find X, tame it in trap -> breed X -> grind mats -> repeat”
Breeding shouldn’t be worth doing beyond imprint and spare tames imo 🤷♂️
It should be a minor affair rather than the central element of late game gameplay
Color mutations or small stat boosts are prolly fine for the folks who want to hard dedicate to the effort…but it shouldn’t be required to get your foot in the door for PvP or to beat the PvE content
are those 100 'ingame' days or 100 IRL days
100 ingame days
I won't make counter to PvP to much as I don't play it, but I do think that breeding should play apart in stats if for nothing more than that how you have to get boss ready. I don't think you should be able to tame boss ready dinos
You can improve your tames in other ways or require special materials earned through challenges to fight bosses
mutagen was a test run for this I'm sure.
Instance based arenas and dungeons just like our favorite mmo
tbf that's also in game days, not actual, with super fast breeding rates.
And most of those use the single player option which nerfs the bosses and makes your dinos stronger, so it's not even AS needed as it seems.
You can do MANY bosses solo as it is. Only requiring something like a frog/Kangaroo or other things to cheese the bosses.
Tames really just make it faster for farming than anything else.
when does this game come out
Next year as of now
End of 2024
seriously

(Ark 2 information come from Microsoft Xbox's website where they were given details to advertise.)
Holy fucking wall text
Saved a document for when people ask about information and release of Ark 2 and ASA. Better than having to constantly type out same responses to a question that going to be asked 100 more times before it said and done
Yeaaaaah
When its coming out
Next year
You gotta step back and see my point though. Even with rate and other changes, it’s STILL a massive chunk of the run
I disagree strongly with the opinion I'll be frank, Ark was never designed around 100 in-game day challenges, and it would be silly to say like...
A huge part of Ark is the Pokemon-like hunting down of creatures, trying to find the best stats, sometimes colors...
If they wanna have more survival, instead of breeding or whatever, they can use mods or increase rates to their liking
Nothing I said indicates ark should be designed around 100 day challenges
I’m saying that content creators spend a huge amount of time on this stuff - I cited a particular enjoyable type for me, but even more “standard” slow paced content has a massive breeding lens
When solo you have the other grinds that will take a lot longer anyway, like obtaining blueprints is very RNG too...looting crates every 1-2 hours and praying you don't get unlucky for 4 weeks
In fairness, ark is a survival sandbox game. Breeding should be the mod in that case, since…the game is marketed as a survival game
It’s not marketed as a sim or breeding collection game
To take ark’s steam page: “Stranded on the shores of a mysterious island, you must learn to survive. Use your cunning to kill or tame the primeval creatures roaming the land, and encounter other players to survive, dominate... and escape!”
The only thing that mentions BP hunting or breeding is that RPG is a player added tag 😅. Hence my hope that ark 2 fixes them both to be less of the bulk of the gameplay experience
Anyone know current news on release date for ASA?
October
It's not actually just user generated, it's also marked as such in the developer curated section 😅
The one just under the steam achievements, for reference
There’s both sets of tags right?
nope
I don't think I understand what you mean, unless you're asking whether or not both types of tags exist, in which case yes they do but one is player defined and the other is developer defined
You understood me - I was making sure I wasn’t crazy in thinking there were player and dev added tags
Fair enough lol, it's 6am and I wasn't sure because the wording looked strange and all that noise
Yea nw, I also worded it like a chimp
when did prim plus die player wise
Wasn't it around Extinction when it lost support? Or am I mistaken
if it lasted that long theres gotta be a lot of vids about the expetience
Prim plus was ill supported after SE came out - formal support was cut later
It was one of ark’s possible paths in development - between new gamemodes (possibly paid) or new paid DLC
was it not pretty full of content before support cut
was the main issue lag and bugs?
people weathered the same in 2016 ark so i wonder what the experience in prim plus pvp was like
im imagining everythings more temporary but idrk
now you gotta have bases set up for months to get everything down
i think cuttinf down that time would basically make everything better
Actually, I think I remember Aberration release broke more features in Prim Plus, so that might have been the beginning of the end. Also about when Ark had the UI overhaul
Prim plus never died, it just evolved to Ark 2
Ohhhh, true true
Ark 2 : ReleaseDate; 2028
And rock drake saddle wasn't included in Prim Plus engrams, rumor has it that you could get it on drop from surface, but good luck doing that with just spinos and megalosaurs.
2038*
I do remember some issues with available BPs that were “primitive”
i wonder if this means theyll do more gamemodes now
like do they regret not supporting prim plus instead of whatever they did
What is the main Antagonist of ark ?
rockwell/element
Financially? No. Unknown if they regret it from a design angle
fair
Dollie only confirmed standard official PvP and PvE for ark 2 tho
i wonder if they even wanted gen1 and 2
didnt they want to end the story at extinction but for some reason went on to make the gens
Unknown what would grow out of that. I presume for asa they’d have more gamemodes given sotf is coming out with it at launch
idr what happened here
Needed funding from genesis games AND a testing ground for design to decide what to do for ark 2
aight
No rockwell is dead
rockwells the only normal kind of antagonist for ark, but ye hes gone now
“Gone”
element is what made rockwell whatever he became tho, but element isnt a being
afaik, its more of an environmental issue
maybe it was sent by someone and they are the antagonist
Idk, but it’s clear it’ll be central to ark 2’s plot
No one's really gone forever
-cue Rockwell laugh-
i didnt like his death at gen2 end so id be fine seeing him again
Somehow Palpatine Rockwell returned. Again.
I actually really liked the end of genesis 2’s cutscene
Rockwell always come back
rockwell is the seed for elements new consciousness after alpha titan was destroyed
that or it means nothijg and element is everywherr consuming other worlds
I firmly doubt that one. To think a universe wide force had one avatar seems silly
we dunno the exact extent of element afaik
I'd kinda like to see RW return as a new survivor from the Genesis. See how he'd react to his Ark incarnation causing so much pain and suffering, and see if he'd try to atone or just try again
We saw it repeatedly on the genesis ship out in the cosmos
tho ig since thr gen2 space biome had element rotation it means its probably everywhere
ya
It seems to be common. It’s just a question of what it’ll do once it makes planet fall
It’s not nanotech iirc. It’s just…a strange component of the universe
oh
My théorie ? Éléments corrupt a random dino and he become the New alpha
gotta remember you have element from asteroids on gen2 as the ship fly's
ya
dump some element into the sun
if it ionizes its clearly manageable
Element is weird. It’s a liquid on Ab despite being fairly cool
thats why if its nanotech it makes sense
just a bunch of little machines
vibrating, looking for stuff to do, flowing past each other like water
linked up in certain cinditions
abberation is at elements critical point
or maybe it entered a dormant state as a solid
from the stress of a nuke
maybe its the planet's core??
Ab?
abberation is an ark
I mean it could be a meltdown of AB’s interior
well yeh
A sludge of element and whatever else was liquified by the tek bombs
Ab isn't a planet 🤔
but since ark's are kinda of simulation of the planet and since there's land there maybe some of the planet core was place on each ark for whatever reason?? temperature???
''no one's ever really gone''
Arks are more like boats than simulations
Taking a rock/whatever out of a core of a planet makes it not really any different than a regular rock on the surface. It's missing the heat and pressure that makes the core of a planet ... well, a core
the arks can construct animals and shit and apparently its all based on what people think of animals as or smthn
which is i think why wyverns and deathworms exist
instead of real animals
Ark is literally the biblic name for a ship 😂
hell they could pull a venom kinda story for the element
The game piece means the lore is “whatever WC feels like”. However…
the lores still a creative guide
They do explicitly state the arks are lifeboats that hold the plants and animals needed to reseed earth post titan. IE, not a simulation
Yeah, because that’s the meaning of an ark, coming from the Bible
You gotta generally follow (or at least be aware of) what’s explicitly stated unless told otherwise when it comes to lore
Also, ASA will have the exactly same lore as ASE
It COULD have been arks like “these are simulations designed to test humans to be ready for the king titan” - technically close enough conceptually to be called an ark. But they wanted the Noah’s ark feeling with the arks being these massive spaces filled with life ready to reseed
UNLESS the next and exclusive dlc brings more to it
the rockwell cooking dlc
I don’t know man, ark AFAIK is a biblic name
Cooking Mama, Ft Rockwell
And it has this single meaning
Hopefully
And huuuuuge map
Maybe 1 - earth post extinction
2 - Arat pre ark 2
My hopes above 😂
its funny that ppl here make more hype about stuff while wc barely does anything in last couple months aside from voting for crap creatures
Except y'know, finishing production on a game and developing another. The devs aren't sharing much because everytime they do share something the community shits on it
A lot of the comments YOU have made in this very chat is what many others have complained about, which is why they quit posting ANYTHING.
They stated when it's near launch they'd post more in-depth things, and until then we'd get teasers, and they still got shit for it.
Unfortunately the Loud minority ruined any sort of teasers for the rest of us.
ho come on, for a remake about to be release next month they have nothing to show??? they must have a least have the island dino roost done plus the map itself, you think ppl would shit on them if they show pic (at least) of that?
aint a tree or a wall
It's not about having nothing to show, it's about WHEN they decide to show it.
And yeah, they'd probably find something to complain about regardless of what was shown. You included. If they posted a screenshot of something in game you'd be in here complaining it wasn't a video lol
if we were on oct yeh i would be saying why not a gameplay clip to show the UE5 update
I want this
Unironically I want a massive cooking overhaul to make it either a fun minigame or a really rewarding custom crafting mechanic (pls no poo system like ASE where spam is king)
An ingredient heavy game for ark 2 would be so damn fun. I’d kill to explore or cultivate weird plants to make into dishes
Gardening like subnautica (lots of plant types, low maintenance - the challenge is mostly getting a hold of the plants and the space needed to grow them) would be fantastic for this
My inner chief craves this.
Allow us to harvest anything and put it into a stew.
damn here i though was something about ASA
Inner chief
Facts
The post by Dollie was totally about ASA! be happy 😂
If they add those animations game its going +18 😂
no way, those are the old asset's plus she says its from back then
why would they
not even different animations would be a good idea, it's prob something that means nothing
I thought i was being obvious about the sarcasm but I guess not lol
You gotta make it reaaaaaaaal obvious for some folk around here
what hype does to a mf
Does Ark 2 have any mod?
Ark 2 have many mod in future
So about Now? I want to know
No…
Bruhhhhh
A game which isn’t out does not have mods, who would’ve guessed 🤯
Is the new ark coming out next month? Or has it been pushed back ?
As far as anyone knows it’s still planned to release some point in October
I hope ark 2 is more primitiv
it's gonna be primarily primitive
Watch it be October 31
Very original, gold star! 🌟
Is it true that u can’t play ark 2 on ps4?
if it comes to playstation it's only gonna be on next gen consoles, so no ps4 tech holding it back by being a bottleneck. it's time to move forward with consoles
Oh alr ty ^^
but as it stands atm it's gonna be a launch exclusive for pc and Xbox series x/s. mainly due to a deal between Wildcard and Xbox/Playstation not liking early access games a whole lot
idk
Bc AA is in development
Well it better be
It’s supposed to come out in a month and we’ve got no trailers, no gameplay nothing apart from some rocks, bushes and concept art
Ark 2 isn't slated for release until next year, fam. You're likely thinking of ASA, which is coming out next month as far as we know
even with Asa, Ark 2 and Ark in general Wildcard has always kept gameplay trailers and such stuff closer to launch to show what's basicly the final product, not a test build 2 years in advance. and maybe with this community it's better for them to not show anything until it's close to release as nothing is ever good enough for these people. if they were to show Ark 2 gameplay 6 months before launch some things show could've been changed drasticly or been removed entirely compared to gameplay very close to launch wich has less chance of something like that being the case.
this is also a valid reason why we get so little communication bc of some people ruining it for both sides (Wildcard and the community)
like this year 1st of april poopyheads saying ppl were stupid to believe on that cc?
i see flobs change language after the reply thats a nice touch, anyway, i dont get why some even dare to think that "few" "many" (they cant decide) is making such impact of what wc is sharing really, if thats the case is wc so shy they aint gonna release ASA or ark 2 because ppl complaing they sharing a tree instead of other more relevant things?
lets be real if ppl continue to complain they might not release their games, lets all try it out see if that happens since the "many" "the Loud minority " as ruined wc will of sharing news 🤣
There’s a difference between denial post trauma and continual incessant whining
Fox, I highly suggest a visit to your local computer lab at the closest college or institution. Your grammar, punctuation, and just about everything else needs serious work before you're even allowed to talk shit on me lol
Also, inciting people to be assholes to the devs isn't a good look, bud 😬
me to men i just wondar if they will be in ark survivel ascendud
They're confirmed to come back I believe, since they're an ASE item.
But the question is if they're releasing when the game comes out since they are part of the base-game now, or when Extinction drops.
ah oke thank u
It makes perfect sense why they aren't doing updates. Updates and renders take time and money to make and that time and money could be spent on furthering the development of the game. So when they're spending this time and money on something that isn't receiving any good feedback because of people like Mr. Fox talking down on all the hard work that they're doing, why continue doing it? Just keep your heads down and continue work until it's done! I don't care if I ever see another update post on what they are doing as long as I get a finished product on what they've done.
Which is set to come out in October
What saddens me is that the community could be shaping developing more if transparency was still present
There was critical feedback given after seeing plans for ark 2 for example that led to Asa and likely other developments. I just wish the community’s delivery was less hostile and more constructive
i think its likely cryopods are added earlier than extinction, maybe even on launch
I hope performance gains on UE5 are so great there's no need for cryos and they say good riddance to them 😄
its still a convenient tool for transporting dinos or getting them out of the way
Earliest I would think cryo might be added if they were to be added before extinction would be when scorched earth gets added if they do it for convenance rather than story for ASA. That just my take.
If the only map is the island then I believe cryos could be held off on
ho man, if they are spending that kinda of money after i read your comment on a pic of a tree, smith and couple of walls i guess a single dino asset is on the thousands of dollars maybe millions??? nobody care right now of those things, ppl want to see how dinos are on UE5 hows the island on UE5 cause for a remaster/remake being done in a couple of months asking for 40$ in early access thats coming next month aint nothing special but yeh everyone as a right of their opinion just a shame ppl are more focus on shitting other ppl instead of asking for answers of a game they plan to spend in early access
Cryos ruined proper prep for raiding, and made defenders advantage not a thing.
If cryos were a thing back when I 2v40'd two different megas for 8+ hours until the rest of the tribe came on, I doubt we would have actually been able to hold. The fact they had to continually have people leave and come back to try and get more dinos for pushing is one of the reasons we lived.
I'd much rather go back to those times than the time of cryos. Truly puts you out in the open world more too.
I'd rather not go back to the days where I'm needing to take a shit load of wasted time to bring 20+ rexes to an obelisk.
plus having dino cap servers
Or stay up for hours until a Giga is juvenile for a creature that takes a literal week to grow up.
TP near an obelisk. ez.
Breeding changes, which they've already mentioned (albeit not how).
How're you going to teleport pre-tekgrams?
from a PVE perspective, cryopods are almost a necessity
They stated they're 'adding' new creatures for breeding, not changing the system
Do the boss a few times? lol
Again, I'd rather not waste pointless time taking a shit load of tames to an obelisk, when I can just, oh I don't know.
Conveniently put them all in my pocket and just throw them out.
a way to do whitout ob is to know a drop place and wait for it which kinda sucks plus someone might go there and grab it just because 🤣
Outside of PvP, what harm do they do enough for them to be removed?
Anything they do you don't 'have' to do. It's PvE, don't use an item if you don't like it.
I can understand in PvP since to survive you have to use any current metas. But you have no excuse on PvE
Which involves them all being knocked out or waiting 5000 years for each throw out.
Also CC 356 "Dino/Baby Management QOL"
so thanks for incorrecting me 😉
Again, only on PvP
Cryosickness is disabled if you don't have PvP enabled
No they're not. Cryos are convenient but they are not necessary. They just produce laziness in people and the ability to fast track progress.
Okay, so different rules for PvE. literally proble msolved lmao
PvE - cryos. PvP - none. Fixed
I'm down for that. As ARK should be balanced separately between PvE and PvP.
they barely do that
i think they just dont
My point is for PvP specifically, Cryos ruined Defenders advantage.
sure you somewhat have it, but at the same time not
They don't.
They've nerfed creatures for PvP that harmed them on PvE
only major thing they dint from pvp to pve was pve couldt grab wild dinos
And I agree with that.
But again, they should be in the game for players not on PvP/want the connivance of them.
Actually you can.
You can't grab 'tamed' dinos
I'll still disagree for PvP. I'm sure they'll be around, and I'll use them if they do, but the game for PvP is far better without them.
did they change that recently? cause tusos cant or argies or anything else
You also couldn't pickup anyone that wasn't in your tribe on PvE.
So yeah, that's basically their extent on ASE.
And if the "balance pass" for caves is making no crouch spots, you REALLY don't need them for raiding.
It's always been like that.
I've tamed many creatures on PvE that way throughout the years.
I disagree, Ark is meant to be a slower pace game and convenance is a terrible excuse for just wanting to shortcut a game experience.
well dint work for me on officials
Making a game artificially longer is also a terrible excuse.
There's fun difficulty, and there's just being annoying as all fuck for no goddamn reason difficulty.
True, look at the complaint about starfield being a "fast travel sim" even though most people play skyrim/fallout (unless on survival mode) literally teleporting from location to location the moment they discover it lol
Read Berserker post
People who've been complaining about starfield are the same people complaining 'why can't I land on gas-giants?'
I'm aware lmao. "it's a sci-fi game idc about reality"
I think they should add it in but it rips you and your spaceship apart upon landing
And Starfield, all things consider, plays basically just like any other Bethesda game.
So those complaints are literally just to complain.
i dont know crap about starfield but there is nothing on gas giants 😭
Exactly.
There's no solid surface.
But it's just to point out if you give access to something, everyone is going to use it. Not giving access to something changes the game.
For PvP, you used to get into open world PvP because of ferrying something back to base, or to a drop/ob to upload to bring it back.
Now that's non-existent.
I haven't been looking online or reading anything related to Starfield to avoid spoilers, but I've been enjoying it. Aside from a bug here or there and a crash or two on my dated PC, its been a great time
yk what you are right, it'd be alright if theres no cryopods, itll bring back some of the primitive feel to ark
And I get that, and I do agree they hindered PvP.
But there's no reason to remove them in PvE situations, cause there's nothing stopping you from playing the game the way 'you' want to.
Or there wanting to speed run games that aren't meant to be run like that all because people that play like that are a achievement chaser.
I'd say it better to respect a games design pace than want to fast track it for your personal ego and completion expectation.
There is. I'm actively at a disadvantage if I'm not using cryos if they are in the game and everyone else is. I don't get the privilege of not using them, while in an arms race to defend my base lmao
If cryopods where literally 'that' much of an issue for Wildcard, they would've removed them no matter what.
They stated they're readding cryopods to ASA, it's only a matter of 'when' they're being readded.
cryopod function could also be nerfed if they were similar to cross ark dino uploading, where you need some sort of terminal to cryo/uncryo them
Defending your base from random wild creatures?
We're talking about PvE.
Not really that simple when they admitted a while back tek was the worst thing they did to the game. Hence why Ark 2 is going to be primitive style game.
And yet, they now see that design choice has split up the community for ARK-2.
Which I already established my point on how to fix it, but you keep bringing up "in a PvE situation" which you know, PvP has PvE situations, so idk why you keep responding to me arguing for cryopods, when I said to keep them for PvE..lmao
When did they say that? I never saw them saying that officially.
Believe it was a twitter post, it was not a discord announcement or anything quite that official
By whom?
I'm not arguing at all. I'm having a discussion with you.
I stated "And I get that, and I do agree they hindered PvP.
But there's no reason to remove them in PvE situations, cause there's nothing stopping you from playing the game the way 'you' want to."
You responded with "There is." at the beginning of your message, indicating you're talking about the fact that 'there is' a reason to remove them in PvE, after I stated 'there's no reason to'
Miscommunication I believe.
wait is asa october 1 or october 31
We don't know
Just october
oh i thought it said 31 on the contract or something
PvP has PvE elements, aka taming and the like. by saying "PvE situations" that doesn't just mean PvE servers. It reads as any form of PvE, including on PvP servers.
Do you remember everything you read, eat, or did from even a couple weeks, months ago? I don't. There was an article that shared that post a WHILE ago. To long to remember specific details.
Don't be arrogant.
just say i forgot 💀
In fairness when making a claim of seeing something you should have some sort of proof. Otherwise it just becomes a "just trust me bro" moment.
Again, miscommunication.
I shouldn't had said 'PvE situations' and stated 'PvE servers' instead
You are just using it as an argument and that's a huge thing, so I would like some proof...
fair enough
no point being an ass
If you don't have it, that's fine, but I will ignore your argument
In fairness if you take the time to save EVERY little thing that you might 1% chance in up in a conversation about and need to share you'd be overwhelming busy and need quite a storage device for everything
The point is if you can't back up something you remember seeing/hearing, you can't bring it up in an argument as fact lol
This

I've tried finding something I remember seeing, being unable to, and admit I can't find it, so I retract what I said, even if I 100% saw it, without having the proof to back it up, it's just hearsay on my end.
That a wild statement, not everything that is acomplished in life has been done after proof is found and saved. That an arrogant mindset of social videos like tiktok debates and stuff where people try to justify dumb stances cause they have some sort of "proof"
You can also do what I do and say 'take it with a grain of salt since I can't find a source'
Then you can still have that discussion, but in theoretical now.
At least you know how to use reaction Bootleg
No. It's how debates and fact work, long before tiktok was even a thought of an idea.
It's even how the court system works, LONG before Tiktok was a thing.
What you just did was a fallacy to try to undermine my intelligence instead of actually defending your point lol
Hang on, brb
Comparing discussion with a legal system like court in terms of having "proof" that just hilarious and I am done if you remotely think that the same thing.
Back
I used it as an example since you said it only became a thing since Tiktok.
Funny how you ignore the other point, of which it's been used in debates far before Tiktok was also a thing.

I didn't say "only became a thing" I used it as an example of why people have this ridiculous idea of ALWAYS having to have some kind of source in a discussion.
There a difference
I recall Joe saying he hates ark and only likes to be in this channel to troll people.
Now did you actually say that? NO. But according to your logic, I can just make that claim, and you should believe me even if I don't have the proof.
See the issue with that logic now?
Which than some people may believe, and that misinformation will spread like wildfire.
^^
Which is how rumors start.
What's ASE & ASA? Sorry if it's a stupid question.
Survival evolved and Survival Ascended
ARK: Survival Evolved.
ARK: Survival Ascended
Just abbreviated so it's easier to mention in discussion
Okay I thought so but wasn't sure, thank you all
Honestly no matter how simple a question might seem there always a good to ask. Better to ask than not.
You are so inflammatory and obtuse, it's unreal. And as for "nobody care right now of those things", yes, somebody care of those things, lots of somebody care actually, especially if it would be a waste of money to show them when the community members such as yourself don't deserve a thing until release
Ark 2 should make the giga and carcha an actually balanced dinosaur, (they shouldn't be rekting everything) and just make their own special hybrid dinosaurs if they want a rare apex predator 😎 just my opinion tho (because my paleontologist nerd side of me hates how giga and carcha just rekts everything when irl they would not beat the t-rex, sure can kill but would lose 80% of the time)
Uh, Ark 2 may not even have those creatures, fyi
huh they wont?
But if they do, I agree, make them more in line with a rex but offer different utility
giga and carcha shouldnt exist in ark2 imo
there isnt any use for them
spino at least is more of a glass cannon and aquatic
giga is just a better rex that is balanced by not being given a tek saddle and no boss fights
just make rex the dps king and make its dps more significant than 65 base melee
tho whether thats enough or not is entirely unknown
we do have aliens after all
and i really hope the dino roster is cut down and everything is more rich in details and mechanics per dinosaur
you could cut a bunch of mechanics out entirely idrc
@south lance I mean ark : survival evolved veered completely off path from the "primitive survival game" basis that is said to be focused on for ark 2
it did
its unlikely a lot of design decisions would exist in ark2 that did in ase
we will not see space dolphins
yea haha
no voidwyrms or shadowmanes
no manas, maybe a bloodstalker tho
wyverns im doubtful of too
Meh
wyverns were fine, high level eggs were rare on scorched, and no breeding
I feel like wyverns are just opinion based
I don't think they are too "wtf is that elemental space dolphin flying at me shooting blue lasers"
Don't know where anyone got the idea ARK was always meant to be a primitive game.
You where able to get basic firearms day-one.
By "primitive" I really meant the tek stage
I get that this was intended in the early days anyways
idr wyverns before breeding tbh
but the fact people see dinosaurs and are greeted with tek stuff
i think they were balanced tho, besides lightning and poison being all out better
feels odd to me
Those where in the devkit and planned since also day-one I believe.
But I get your point.
I still hold the opinion tek wasn't the issue, and it was the poor and shitty implementation they took with it.
If tek was balanced on day-one, barely anyone would have any issues with it.
To be fair, obelisks are giant tek spires.
its not that its guaranteed to stay primitive, its that not getting advanced tech is gonna be a good thing since then youre gonna start power creeping stuff that spent years getting fine tuned
We're talking about ARK-1
i thought ark2, mb
Nah, no worries on you.
i do think the mass appeal was a primitive aesthetic tho
people dont bother with the technicalities as much since the first thing they see is a raptor
and for a lot of the game its taming dinosaurs
not tekking out with technopokeballs holding booster dogs flying at mach 3
It's good to have progression ofcourse
even tho ark in its design basically needs this inevitably
and thags probably why extinction was supposed to be the finale
but then genesis came
So, I'm fine with having no tek in ARK-2. I just want people to be aware the game was always meant to be sci-fi in nature.
Also a good lore explanation why we can't just use tek on this new planet besides "tek bad."
i think the underestimste the will people have to buy dlc if the dlc content isnt stronger
I mean lore is much less important to new players than the actual game
yeah but tek couldve still been rarer than element veins
I get that older ark players want it to be preserved in a way
Doesn't mean they can't bother.
I never said this at all
they can absolutely implement lore
Oddly enough, this is actually how Wildcard works
i wonder if they knew about having ark2 set on arat before genesis
or if ark2 was gonna be earth
They make basic versions of what they want the next DLC to be set lore-wise to make the gameplay around that.
So I assume Ark 2's "The Island" will just be called arat
i think theres mention of the gen ship in extinction?
Genesis-ship itself was never mentioned. But it was hinted towards with Arat-Prime.
Arat is the whole planet
nobodh knows how future dlc eill be like
Or in this case, it's a moon
Right, But I mean expansion maps
Or is it only 1 map
We have no idea
Forever
The DLC's could be set on other regions of the planet
oh
then maybe genesis wasnt actually planned until afterwards
Or, they could implement a tad bit of tek in the lore and allow us to teleport to the nearby planets.
probably why they revived clones of santiago
So you would be blocked from moving into these areas which would completely stop immersion or do you think it would be like in extinction
where it is an illusion
I mean the whole "ark" is an illusion
fruits want to be esten
But I mean the background
Actually, Marc had rough notes of the Genesis storyline that he left with Wildcard
I doubt we'd be able to explore the whole planet.
But there can be natural barriers preventing us.
Examples: Mountaints too tall to realistically fly over.
Endless oceans.
An apex-predator that kills you if you leave the map, etc.
Eh
who knows
I personally Feel it would be easier and more money in wildcards pocket to add DLC's
maybe theyll figure out a wau to make a whole planet
subnautica, unending ocean + predators
I would not like that personally.
ark2 entire redesign could be in store if asa goes well
maybe not of content we know exists, but other stuff
A planet that size would require procedual generation.
And that'd sacrifice any good handcrafted environments or locations and bring them to a minimal.
idk what the limits of ue5 are
God knows how much versions of ARK-2 they've done since some of the backlash.
i dont doubt a realistic model would be impossiboe
but something like a few gen2 maps in size
i think thats possible
False. Minecraft is an example of this and a youtuber has went over how they went around this. However a "whole planet" seems alot.
2024 ARK-2 is defiantly going to be different then the planned 2022 version.
I don't see the problem of adding expansions
You didn't at all get what I said
Defiantly
it might still be better to use the old server model anyhow
just cause if moderation is weak its better to allow people to leave than force them to get screwed by problems caused by other people for the time it takes for some few mods to handle it
Make it like no man’s sky, beable to explore a whole damn planet xD and travel to other planets or arks without having to load a new map
unless the map is large enough, then you could cut down server count disproportionately maybe
and if theres better ways to prevent a single group from controlling a server
since at that point the servers population will go down to almost.0
Firstly, Minecraft's world is primitive as all hell.
The geometry is so simple that they're able to do so.
Like the amount of blocks in a 100x100 radius is the amount of pixels a 20x20 foot landscape in UE5 has.
Secondly, Minecraft has generated structures, yes. But they're all procedural and where procedurally placed on your world.
There's too little locations in Minecraft that repeats themselves. Versus a hand crafted enviroment that can have each location unique.
in this case more smaller maps are favorable rather than few big maps
few big map may or may not be more manageable to mod
Also, again. Those worlds are procedurally generated and have no actually interesting Points of interest locations.
Each planet also looks the same and have no variants of biomes.
If you're planet is a radiation hellscape, it's 'all' going to look like the exact same radiation hellscape you saw when you first landed.
Only exception I can think of are planets with large oceans.
Are you aware of Gamespot's video on Unreal Engines 5.2 full tech demo of procedural generation?
I personally don't know what you guys mean by a "whole planet"
Like how much bigger are we talking
i think theres a game corp out there trying to make a much more sophisticated procedural gen but they havent even launched that game yet and wont for several years at this point
They did the procedural arks that we were able to make our own maps? And they weren’t repetitive, they could scale that to a very large size and then add caves and dungeons and POI
Yes, I do.
And while they look cool, again. You're sacrificing quantity over quality.
Think about it.
If you're map is huge, and I mean comically huge that it requires procedural generation to form. That leaves so much areas empty for miles, while only having a few good handcrafted locations like decayed buildings and whatnot.
Basically, would you rather have a Minecraft world that's comically huge and has only a few interesting areas that repeat.
Or a map like Ragnarok that has a lot of areas like castles and such?
Those things where so horrible that they're ditching them in ASA.
Oh I made some pretty cool maps that I used with Nitrado xD
I would rather not have a "comically huge" planet at all lol
So we're in agreement that the map should be quality over quantity?
I've stated that before but if they had to make a giant planet then you would go around it with procedural generation
Im confused why you said "look cool" then said quantity over quality
Yeah, if they 'had' to that'd be the smartest way.
But I don't think that'd go well for a lot of people.
But yes, I've said like 5 times before, idk why we have to have a giant planet
and not just follow what we done in ase which was dlc expansions
I would like smaller maps for pvp survival style rounds
Oh, this is the message that originally started it
I mean I'd like arat to be like 4x bigger than "The island"
I believe Genesis-2 is already like 3x.
gen-2 in ase?
Yeah. That was a very large map
Yeah
Largest map. (technically Fjordur is larger due to the realms)
But that map is like 3x larger than The-Island
What is the benefit you guys are after in terms of 'size'
From a pvp perspective it has little effect given the many fast ways to travel/teleporters etc
From a non pvp perspective which will be in the best interest of new players coming in ark 2
We're talking about quality over quantity with map sizes.
We agree that we want more interesting locations and biomes than a large, empty world.
you just need to add significant pve combat
Where do I go to vote
Honestly, Gen-2 is like the perfect size for ARK-2 if we're mostly going on foot.
If you remove TEK and it’s strictly primitive it’s a fine size
it should be even bigger since ark 2 gonna have AI enemies
And?
I don't think you understand how massive Gen-2 is if you're on foot.
It feels tiny if you're flying
thats why i say that
it really comes down how many bases will be build in a single server
Pft… I still felt it was taking me forever to travel
You said it should be bigger than Gen-2
Skill issue
of course pve will have much more than pvp in terms of giant bases in the open
Yes
aside from that "skill issue", whit new AI enemies which we dont know if will spawn random bases to raid and if the limit of players per server remains 70 or even increases 🤣 a gen 2 map aint that big for pve server
Depends how many people are on such pve servers
and depends if they allow the box box tribes to join in and exploid ways of making 3 max out bases in a single one for RMT
I mean are we talking huge community servers? Where there’s a 100 people building and making a community or being nomads
