I hope there's more exotic alien creatures with cool taming methods
Nah, salad-mander is bae
bring it on bee
yummy alien salad lizard
I admit this name is definitely growing on me š saladmander
If we still have Helena and her awful puns, I can almost guarantee Saladmander will be its official name
I'll end up calling it that forever wdym
I'm pretty certain brontos were real lol
@untold ingot No they weren't. In the 19th century Brontosaurus was named a genus based on an Apatosaurus skeleton and a Camarasaurus skull which were mistaken as a new genus, when in reality they were two seperate animals that had died in the same area. The mistake was quickly realised but by then the name "Brontosaurus" had stuck with the public and people to this day still think Brontosaurus was a real animal.
Hmm, I just looked that up and, yeah I guess so
But the creature itself exists, it's just a wrong name
god i wish they werent insisting on dark souls like combat its going to suck not having free combat like ark 1
Skill issue
@craggy spruce I've never played Dark Souls, what sort of combat is that?
Think conan
More skill based with combos
Its basically just an upscaled version of any melee combat game
If we were gonna have ark 1 combat again I would vomit.
naw any survival game that use dark souls combat dies rly quick it just aint fun esp for pvp clunky and slow
Name one that uses souls combat?
conan exiles
Also, they never said it uses dark souls combat. Only that it uses souls like. There is a pretty significant difference
Conan flopped because of a lack of content in the game, and very clunky mechanics regarding "tames" and npcs.
Give me another example
iunno look for some many out there but they have all dies and been forgoten
just aint a playstyle suited for a open world survival game
As long as it doesn't get too complicated, I'm happy with stuff other than left click spam
What does souls-like even mean? Lock-ons? Stamina based attacks? Rolling?
There's a lot that can be adjusted and still be considered 'souls-like'
@untold ingot I think AC: Valhalla tried something like that with the bosses in that game, and I have to say I wasn't a fan
I mean, it was playable but it was just really irritating and clunky
An emphasis on āSouls-likeā melee combat driven by player skill, with target-lock, blocks, dodges, combos, staggers, and special attacks.
So saying a blanket statement that souls-like is bad for open world is a pretty weak argument when Elden Ring did so well
thats a single player game
But it's not though
ark is multi open world with pvp
Invasions and PvP
The only difference is base building and always online for PvP
And tames I guess
Torrent doesn't count
I hope Ark II has more dynamic AI for the creatures, make them a bit more interesting in their behaviour
Supposedly they'll be able to hunt and track you via sound and scent, so stealth will actually be a thing
Making combat too difficult and keeping a skill tree puts a hard cap on end game abilities that some people can never achieve. More styles/ action in combat is great... but not everyone plays PVP exclusively so game balance becomes an issue.
That may be why they are doing Ark 1 in UE5.
Uh, what
Ue5 is just a game engine. It won't change gameplay or anything
It won't balance the game
I meant game balance between PVP and PVE. They cant make two separate engines. All games have to make a choice
to be fair if they keep working on ark 1 and eliminate duping etc and give it UE5 its probably going to be more pupular then ark 2 still just cus of the combat decision but thats just my prediction
They may have decided that difficult combat is the way to go. So make Ark 1 look better for the people who want to stay with the old combat.
Engines don't affect game balance though lol
how to I phrase this different. Ark 1 will be the easier game balance. Ark 2 will be the tougher combat.
That's not the engine though. That is game differences.
There will probably be settings to make ark2 easy if that is what you want
There will alway be some PVP that think its too easy. And some PVE that think its too hard. Where do they find the balance? We dont even know how much character combat will play a role.
I mean, any combat is tougher than cookie clicker spam like Ark1 š
Im talking official. Single player/ unofficial/ Mods are a completely different game.
its not about how easy or hard it is its about how fluid the combat is in large scale battles
If you want to stay with ark1, stay with it. Ark2 is going to be a different game, with loads of improvements on ark1 mechanica
they'd loose a large part of their base if they ignore the people who've been around 5+ yrs. I suck at combat so I expect to end up on a private server. but i dont want the game to cater to a small group and end up with a limited gamestyles
Like ark1 currently does?
thats whats going to happen if they go forward and the playerbase they have had since 2015 will remain with ark 1
There's still probably going to be PvE servers
But, I will never play official š
PvP or PvE, y'all toxic MFers
Official has gone down a lot in the last few years. They opened it up to 'non-Ark' players when they started uping the rates and having overpowered tames/ gear.
I'll play official thru once. Just cause I admire Ark 1. But Im aging out of 1st person combat games so mods and private servers will become the norm.
the overpowered tames are their own fault ofc it cant be that hard to fix the mutation limit so they can no longer bypass the 20/20 limit
Im curious if there is even an endgame to Ark2. Did Rockwell survive the crash? Are the Aratai more advanced than they appear? Are there Arat Bosses? Gonna be fun figuring it all out.
It's not hard. It is too late to do that for ark1 though
they have had plenty of times to fix it and give another wipe every1 would appriciate another fresh start considering how stale it is
should have been yearly wipes from the start with some server with no wipe
I like Immersive Taming and the new ways to tame dinos. Im looking forward to these world events that i feel will be totally new ways to tame/ acquire dinos. And hopefully, they cap em all. Bring strategy and choices to the game
I hope Rockwell is gone, it seemed like his story wrapped up neatly with Helena. It'd be cool if Santiago became corrupted by element or something
Idk
the Arat version of element. I think we played out element.
Maybe Santiago gets power hungry and Meeka needs allies to stop him.
dont be silly santiago would never give up on family
True. went to far with that scenario!
@vapid panther Yeah, it'd be interesting to follow Santiago for most of the game only for him to then become corrupted. But I don't think he should die, he just needs to be rescued, or maybe he sacrifices himself to end the corruption or somethign
@craggy spruce Of course, how could I be so foolish
That change would also happen on pve as well as pvp. And a full scale wipe on official would completely kill it
Oh boy, people complained about arkās combat system for 7 years. Now they want them to keep it⦠thatās crazy
Ark 1ās combat is shit. I will be happy if they totally change it.
Character movement is also shit. Im glad they will work on both
We might have more interesting bosses and ascensions this way
Also better missions
Yeah, the game will vastly improve with overhauls to movement and combat
not at all ppl generaly fall off once servers are too much built up fresh wipes always revives the game for a while before its back to the same stale fully built servers again
wipes more often = more activity
Not really
See, I have been following population trends on ark for awhile, and the population is much more stable on no wipe servers
An Alpha tribe rendering their bases does not equate to a stable active population
ive played since 2014 beta this is not true at all its always full of activity every time the servers have wiped
there are always more ppl playing after a wipe when every1 is on equal footing
Its great after a wipe when everyone is scrambling to get a base built and a few tames to hold off raiders. And i agree, with the rates nowadays, that only lasts a short while.
turn gathering back to original 1x but leave taming at x2
Maybe the Aratai will be an ingame version of a wipe... they make raids once in a while that level all the bases! Or maybe the new spider spreads a plague
There's not it just seems that way
no
Official has thousands of players, spread over thousands of servers
Unofficials have the same groups of people switching between a bunch of them
if wc announced another official wipe tomorrow the numbers would triple if not more u cant argue on this
Unofficials have lots at the start, but those numbers very quickly fall. And it doesn't really come close to official numbers
its how fresh goes
For a week, or two
Then it would die back down to normal levels
And on pve it would probably die off completely
There's still a lot of speculation on how the world will be presented. It might be one big map for PVP and PVE combined. That would affect if/ when they could even do a wipe. I'd rather they keep rates down and cap stats then the need for wipes goes down a fair amount.
@untold ingot The population of unofficial servers depends on the server, they're all different. There are some unofficials with amazing populations because of how they're set up, and some are just dead.
Their population is concentrated, not large lol
A lot of people might dislike this but I hope server transfer for Dinoās isnāt a feature
fair
as long as tamed dinos are viable against bred dinos
preventing people from showing up immediately with 300 dinos is a good thing imo
it forces a way too hardcore 24/7 playstyle
I dislike tf out of this
Personally Iām hoping server transfers arenāt much of a needed thing In Ark 2.
Iād rather 1 map that gets added to with dlc.
Instead of the 1 server= 1 map we currently have.
I only say it because⦠when me and my brother started ark, it did t matter the server, everyone had wyverns and the best Dinoās, come to find out later people were selling Dinoās on eBay through server transfer, even if we kill their Dinoās, you can buy a better one in 10 mins
I donāt like the idea of leaving my favorite tames behind when switching servers. We should be able to go to a map, tame what we want and bring it home.
id rather not have to restart everything just for switching to a new map
I think the way they have it now is best, but increase it by like 8-months to a year before allowing transfers.
just disallow it for pvp
Transfers are necessary for pvp imo
I really hope that for modular gear they just don't mean items like tools but more like armor
Roadmap coming on 31st March, not long to wait to see what ARK 2 stuff is on it. š„³
you are stealing my jokes mister
the roadmap is real
Road map
damn they really do it 31st march cant believe it
I mean, it's pretty funny imo
It's only 12 days
roadmap drops on april fools for me š
That's pretty funny
I hope they pull the most devious of licks possible and just don't post anything until all the crybabies are good and fuming
Knowing WC they will drop it as late as possible, so yeah on the last day of the month
Thats weird, for a roadmap I expected it to drop earlier seeing as its a 'roadmap' but this makes me feel like its gonna be massive.
It's going to be pretty juicy. š
Oh for sure
I didn't even see that tweet. What do you know, last day of the month
ā ļøā ļøā ļø
31st march 11:59:59
The sad part here, is that even if youāre wrong itās not gonna be by more than a few hours.
In my country itāll be 1st Apr by the time crunch drops
Anyway beyond like GMT+2 will get April fool crunch
Ohio isnāt a country itās a state
My question is, why the fuck are they preparing this hard for just a roadmap?
Because they're giving us a release date that'll get delayed once we get close to it
Like, I'm getting Dino-Discovery 2.0 vibes.
Have a countdown for an event, just to then have another countdown....
Like, I could totally not be seeing it, but that feels pointless
Because it's gonna be big with some surprises! š I got a feeling the Animated series won't be far behind it either.
Okay, but we roughly already know what's in store.
Animated-series, UE5 update, rest of Switch DLC's, and ARK-2.
I don't see anything else, since I feel like that'd be straining the studio at that point. All that's left are release dates for these.
So.....it's not really a surprise if we get release dates for these?
(unless the surprise is another delay. But even then, that's not a surprise)
š
What?
The delay isnāt gonna be much of a surprise at this point
its either gonna be like : ark animated series, watch now
or ark 1 ue5 download now
if they prepare that much
otherwise i dont really see the point
I doubt
that actually will proven their point lol
ARK Roadmap predictions:
*- ARK UE5 release date.
- Rhyniognatha release date.
- ARK TSOTF Crossplay Info (confirmed).
- ARK TSOTF New content? (New map, New creatures).
- Nintendo Switch DLC release dates.
- ARK Animated series platform?
- ARK Animated series season 1 release date.
- ARK Animated series season 2 release date.
- ARK 2 Gameplay reveal date.
- ARK 2 release date.*
Here's all my predictions and things that could possibly appear on the roadmap.
Keep in mind that some of these might appear in the form of a release window rather than an exact official date.
thats the same as saying" something will be revealed"
These are just predictions after all, and I forgot to mention there's literally no chance they'll put all of this on the roadmap I'm lowering my expectations and think they might address like 3 or 5 of these.
Ark 2 gameplay-Coming Soon!
Ark 2 Release Date-TBD
They did say it would cover the entire franchise
Yes they might do this but at least they address it lol.
I s2g Iāll go ballistic
I don't think Switch will be included. Grove Street always make it clear that they announce stuff themselves first, and they've already said generally when the maps are coming this past week.
I guess they could possibly include it, but not sure.
Idk just thought they might include it just to fill it up with content, them saying that they'll have SOTF crossplay info on the roadmap suggests thats the case.
Yeah that gameplay they said they would show back in November has yet to be seen
it's almost like that would be the next thing they were gonna show originally, you know until they decided to share more stuff instead bc the crybabies were crying again for new stuff
I feel they delayed showing gameplay because of the backlash from 3rd person only. Now they're working on changing it, either that or they're just behind as hell
they already said people can add back first person with mods, so i highly doubt they're adding first person back themselves bc a few people don't like it and don't want change. ''let's change the whole game design for TPO bc some people cry and moan about it, even when they can use mods for first person''
Don't think they'd allow mods on official or whatever system Ark 2 has of it
not on official servers, but with mods coming to consoles i think official will become even more of a minority over time.
The third person only isnāt new information. Weāve known that long before anything else.
funny how some people think they delayed it to change TPO, when that was only just revealed with the steam page and delay to this year itself in June 2022 š¤£
Only people who think they would delay to add 1st person are people who have a opposed 3rd person only since it was announced. Everyone else knows itās another delay because itās WildCard.
ngl id love first person only on foot at least
i cant really imagine being jumpscared in 3rd person
or running away from something
it just doesnt have the same vibe
While this actually happened to some games I know (Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice league for example) I don't think it'll the case with ARK 2, like any other sequel in any other games it has to be different from the first.
a small price to pay for improvement
I dont mind 3rd person but i would honestly like to shoot guns (if they even have them) or bows first person. I dont know about 3rd person shooting/ranged
Yall need to chill out and be thankfull they're not completely ruining the game like adding microtransactions, battlepass.
and seeing your actual gloves you've equipped in 1st person was always dope
dont give them ideas
Wildcard W
if it weren't for Wildcards stance against microtransactions and NFT's Snail games would've made them add microtransactions to Ark 1 and Ark 2
They're not greedy like some game companies I know (I'm looking at you rocksteady games).
introducing the ark battle pass, unlock your new rex within the 2 month period or buy it for $29.99 - EA if they were in charge of Ark
you know it would definitely happen if one of those companies was in charge
Of course they would cause they gotta pay for their massive dev teams.
Imagine buying a Rex for $29.99 and it instantly gets deleted by the Mesh. š¤£
Thats worse than constantly getting killed by the same dino over and over again trying to get your loot back.
that's without the skin bundle that adds a costume, saddle skin and a rex tooth sword for an additional $15.99
Third-person-only or this.
rajang. refuses to elaborate
thats like saying we should be thankful they implement dinosaurs tf
stop lowering your damn bar
is that a monster hunter thing
your dodo doesn't move, mine does. the bar on dodos is so low on your end
Ark 2 needs to add special music to certain apex predators
I want to hear my death chasing me down and I want to be grooving
just play a horror esc music track
you spend money on a moving dodo?
That would be a nightmare for gareth coker lol.
why cant ark 2 make you spend money to tame a dodo
better than one that doesn't
pick a side flobs
i have, i would spend money on Ark 2 if it was out already
I think heād have fun š
let the man cook some horror tracks for when you get chased down by a rex
Listen to Rajangās theme and it makes more sense
They actually talked about this idea during the pax west stream.
I saw the whole thing and tbh forgot it was mentioned
I seem to recall Coker being like āwait no plsā
Coker almost had jeremy slip up on how many dinos are in ARK2 too.
I heard about 60 š§

He said a lot I think? but based on what he said it looks like early access will have less.
He said we have āsi-ā or so planned
Sounded to me like he cut himself off saying 60 somethin
i hope early acces doesnt have a lot i like weekly updates
no matter how buggy they are
he did? lmao
six?
we don't want ark 1 ''raptor clones with different model and sounds'' again
Weekly updates work with janky ark 1ā¦id expect semi annual or MAYBE quarterly updates
xd
it could be either 16 or 60 or.. 6 š
how many did ark early acces has?
30 at launch?
Given weāve seen concept art and trailers for I believe more than 6 I think itās higher lol
so many š®
Arkās original roster was around 20
It expanded extremely quickly though
well we know more than 6 creatures
so i guess 60 in the beginning is a big number
but with a giant map comes a giant amount of creatures
hopefully
Iām fine with 60 high quality creatures if thatās the number. Especially since 1 may be the Aratai and thatās a BIG add
They want us to be disappointed
Iāve called it
and on march 31 for them its April 1st
so if ark 2 isn't on there it will be an April fool
Itās supposed to cover the whole franchise
But itās not certain how much info we will get
Yeah it says 2023
But I hope it will be a comprehensive roadmap
I donāt believe so
Itās an early access title
Thereās no reason to postpone again
Yeah but wildcard has the Ryniognatha update they have to make
Whatever well wait and see
the Ryniognatha and UE5 update are being done by the ark 1 team, wich normally shouldn't hold back the Ark 2 team.
Ark updates till official launch will probably be a lot slower if it is a more content filled/better made games
I remember ark 1 was just machine gunning everything out
Id assume they will be bigger but slower
considering most dinos added in ark 1s early access period were just ''raptor clones with different model and sounds'' and could be swapped out with every other ''clone'', and seeing as the dino ai will be more complex, the new location based dmg overlays and dinos hopefully having more unique attacks it will/should normally not be as fast as ark 1 creature drops. it should be bigger but slower, as we'd likely all want quality over quantity compared to ark 1 machine gunning them out during early access.
For creature-scale combat, suffice it to say for now that when you attack something with your T-Rex in ARK 2, the results are visceral: the animation of the attack actually hard-impacts on the target (not āpassing throughā it), the victimās flesh is torn, and the target physically reacts at that location to the hit
First time fighting nerg, his dive bomb was scary
Ye
If dinosaurs function like open world monster hunter + that combat if they could pull it off would be peak
Theyd have to be harder than monster hunter if you could tame them xd
Monster hunter rarely works well when fighting more than 1 or 2 things at a time
what in tarnation is a roadmap
a roadmap is a game developer's way of letting players know of planned content down the road. This may contain dates/release windows for stuff like gameplay, more reveals and release. and this roadmap is gonna cover Ark 1, Ark 2 and the animated series.
ohhh alright, I hope they reveal something good
seeing as they did reveals every 4 weeks from January to February, while this month we've gotten new stuff every 2 weeks, first was the weapon modding tease, this saturday was the Spider and in 2 weeks the roadmap.
Ye because its meant to be constant boss fights centered around just player to monsters
When you add open world into the equation, note that the ai doesnt have to necessarily deal with restricting map borders. Also since its more or less an ecosystem now creatures will be forced to interact with eachother dynamically
Monster hunter doesnt need that because its worlds arent really worlds, just aesthetically pleasing arenas
It also doesnt need to have that dynamic interaction between ai to be fun either (it does but its lacking)
Actual ark 2 bosses should def function similar to elden ring or i guess monster hunter monsters
Actual over world animals need to be entirely new and defining if the game is supposed to function like how its steam page says it does
add tamable ants if intrested ping me
If You Add Massive Ridable Ants Please Ping Me!
okay
i'm betting 2 waffles on it, one has frosted flakes on it
26981 dollars mate
I mean, it is old news lol
#766826918803800074 also has the message for people wanting to stick to the discord
You are predicting something already confirmed by Jeremy? Or you are implying the risk they don't comply with Jeremy's statement is high, but this time they will be able to?
I mean, this time I believe they are more cautious on what they publish (except the UE5 meme).
I think ark 2 could be like this
im interested to see how fighting a pack of raptors with your own pack works
cause 6 creatures soulsliking at the same time sounds kinda costly
it depends a lot on how the AI operates
I'm very curious if wild creatures can use senses on other wild and tamed creatures...or just players
i wouldnt be suprised if its just players but i want it to be for all
tho that would mean every creature rendered needs lots of power
to operate correctly
For creature-scale combat, suffice it to say for now that when you attack something with your T-Rex in ARK 2, the results are visceral: the animation of the attack actually hard-impacts on the target (not āpassing throughā it), the victimās flesh is torn, and the target physically reacts at that location to the hit. all to convey the feeling of the raw power of such a ferocious creature!
seems to only be players that get souls like combat
my english is too bad for last sentence, so it only matters where the player is hit?
i get that right?
wdym, this is about the dinos
i meant souls like combat
not my fault you stupid
I want rexes to do barrel rolls though
I'm not so sure this refers to how the mounted combat mechanics will feel
specifically if mounted combat is based on combos and light/heavy attacks rather than LMB spam
all we got on creature scale combat atm
agree...but it doesn't quite answer what I'm after š
i guess we might know with the gameplay soon
Doesn't a few of the Dino rp games like the isle etc have things like combos?
i want a bodyslaming trex
Fair
gameplay gonna be walking through a forest seeing a dodo
I do think it would be awesome if creatures had a move pool rather than just exclusively a bite OR a buttload of fantasy attacks
I think it's possible for there to be combos, special moves, critical hits, etc on every Dino. I don't expect there will be dodge rolls or blocks, but maybe sidesteps and pounces for smaller creatures
for example if rex class creatures could use a combination of stomps, bites, body/tail slams, etc
smaller raptor class creatures would have perhaps some side steps and pounces for sure
no trex dodge roll?!!??
I think even rexes should side step
depending on how slow the attack
Brachis too
Because the whole 283927 point turn to turn around is so annoying to me lol
they should at least have like a shake stuff cause i guess raptors will gain the deinonychus jump
brachis should be able to corner better...but sidestepping a multi ton animal is a meme
If riding a brachi doesn't feel like ballet, they did it wrong
you're riding a walking tank, and imo it should feel like that
you should have cc options and bulk to withstand threats...unlike ark 1 where your front is completely helpless
Movement should feel smooth. Ark1 movement definitely is the opposite of smooth lol
tbh there should be more stuns in game
and if the attacks are slower
its not as painful
i hope that models kinda react to terrain better
i highly doubt creature attack speed will be nearly as fast
like walking up an incline and stepping on certain points, the model shouldn't suddenly go 90 degrees
That last less time lol
smooth can be slow
Yeah, I am a proponent of slow. It makes things more enjoyable at a pace I want. I want smooth though
getting hit by a bronto tail with any creature should at least slow move speed for a couple of seconds
doesnt have to be a big slow down but like 20 %
a brachi for example should not be able to used the same as a raptor...one is very clearly more suited for agile dodging, and the other is far more suited for cc/tanking and methodical slow travel
I mean, a game with stuns that last 10 seconds is too mich
i'd rather have it have very high knockback for anything below X size
if they get fall damage by knockback
so a player or raptor is sent flying
even when unridden, with better ai it is doable
Brachi needs to feel like a tank. But tanks have decent movement lol
brachi just needs proper cc and doesn't need to get stuck on pebbles and that's 99% of the battle
Cc?
crowd control
Ah
I don't know, brachis to me should be very good against single entities, but like elephants should be vulnerable to groups of attackers
I see brachi as walking tanks that are largely immune to small creatures and require large takedowns
A pack of allos or more mobile medium sized creatures should work well against them though
makes sense. They could be resistant to the knockback due to being larger and have more tools to wear down a brachi
I don't like knock back damage lol
knockback is a potent tool for cc, and should be used with care
right now it's abused in ark 1 on almost everything and can lead to cheese
Well, my point was I don't thing brachis should be crowd control
It doesn't make sense. It's like having an elephant sheep herder.
is there a release date yet
ark 2
Prob summer is what they think
it's hard to imagine because very few small pack animals are stupid enough to face off against an adult elephant
we will see with the roadmap on the 31st of March
does the show have a date yet?
Tomorrow
So youre saying brachis should be anti raptor?
fr?
I would rather see them anti Rex, etc
i swear ark players believe anything
anti-human/raptor? More like largely immune to. My vision is that it's mututal
No, it does not. Ignore the people uncapable of replying with a yes or no
the brachi is slow and easily dodged/avoided, but it has attacks and abilities that make it near impossible to kill with a small mount or on foot
lol alright ty
we will see if there's release dates/release windows with the roadmap on the 31st of March
Raptors arent really canines/probably didnt function like any sort of pack hunter in the modern world
Bigger raptors target smaller animals much more easily than smaller raptors (IRL the utah (what every pop culture raptor is) couldnt even jump
Sauropods would be immune to any raptors
Yeah, but it's strength should lie in being an anti large carnivore tame
I see the opposite...that it gets in trouble against large carnivores
If someone brings out a brachi, a solo Rex should be scared, while a pack of then should not
I see an even fight against one rex, and a losing one against multiple
An elephant against any single large predator will almost always win. Against a group, it'll almost always lose
Realistically yeah
there are no elephant sized predators alive on earth
I don't see an even fight against one Rex lol
And rexes aren't brachi sized either
I'd say the closest we have rn is brachi vs carno or allo
?
if you want to relate this to elephants and lions
there just aren't any massive predators in our modern ecosystems
There are
not on land
With dynamic combat on paper (how they want it) i wouldnt be surprised id actual sauropod hunters were allos, gigas, etc
Put an elephant against a polar bear. Elephant wins usually
That would be correct
a polar bear is also carno/allo scaled
Most predators, even when combat capabilites are even, will go after weak or wounded creatures, rather than trying to take on a healthy adult lol
Asian elephants are also much smaller; could be comparable to the American bison which a few tames in ark relate to size
that has...what to do with the question being asked? Free lunch is always ideal lol
this is a question of intuitive balance
it's intuitive that the largest carnivores in ark 2 should be on similar footing to the larger herbivores (unless my titan tame suggestion is used)
And my intuitive balance says rexes solo wouldnt willingly take on a fight with larger herbivores lol
realistically nothing touches a healthy adult sauropod. But I sense the game isn't going to take that route
Media too also fails to represent sauropods accurately in terms of their predation defenses
Sauropods can also run quite well (in terms of stamina)
Most media makes them unrealistically cartoonish by treating them like a boss battles than an actual animal
I hope it does
Stomp attacks also make no goddamn sense either other than being cliche āand i guess cool?ā But stale
stomp attacks are stale is a wild take
given extremely few ark creatures use them, and they are an excellent choice for diversifying the move pools of ark 2 creatures
i want bodychecks
when i say stomp i mean rearing up with a crazy uneven distribution of weight to kill something with a wacky hitbox
a stomp from a sauropod should be gg
Sauropods like brach, would just use kicks or running into things and standing on it
imagine a rex turning to the side and jumping onto you with his might
i want brachios to fight each other like giraffes do
Sauropods should still stomp but the rearing ultra finisher kill everybody aoe attack is dumb
smacking their necks together
A simple brachi run would ko everything
idk why i need an attack to deal the trample for me
a brachi cant get their foot high enough to stomp a rex
Why they run into it
unless they go on their hind legs
Knock it down, step on it anyways
Rex was slow as shit as well
Armored herbivores stomping is also dumb too
š»
wrong
.3.?
Its built like a boulder and is supported by two legs? The only large theropod not faster than trex was spino
In turn hunted beefy herbivores
Irl giga and rex side by side is absurd too
i dont think people totally believe rex was super slow anymore
but paleontology is so fucking bipolar idk whats the current consensus
In terms of large carnivore yes
has no feathers, has feathers, some feathers, dunno, ffs
we got a new spino debate every month
Rex is a beefcake that didnt need to be fast because it hunted things that were built heavily. With a bite that basically disintegrates flesh
Unlike say, giga who is much lighter, who just ran down medium sauropods and just filleted them (giga did not live with argentinosaurus)
Mapu did tho but it still had a light frame to dance around argents and once again, fillet them
We'll know March 31.
or this week
Jeremy confirmed on Twitter that the roadmap will be dropping on the 31st
Please use #ark-animated-series for the show.
To this day there is heavy uncertainty about the top speed of a rex
Cant wait a year for a game to never release gameplay and then show us a date a year later of when itās release will be
Cause there is no way itās releasing this year
We'll hopefully know more in a couple weeks with the roadmap
Most likely gonna say ark 2 coming in 2024 at least we will have eu5 ark
something tells me the other guy was right, they gonna release on 31 so they can say it was a delay and was actually april fools day
I bet it was slow but lots of stamina, i wouldnt be surprised with intelligence studies if it was capable of ambushing
Considering our only reference of bipedal animals and flightless birds and humans and both arent that fast, but great at stamina
ostrich can run pretty quick
humans are also one of an extremely small group of sweating animals with high stamina
Its also small and still gets predated by lions and cheetahs easily
i was unaware it had to be rex sized given you used penguins as your example
You know what i meant
I'm pretty sure there were studies that were highly in favor of rex being one of the most agile mega-theropods, even more than giga or spino
"our only reference of bipedal animals and flightless birds and humans and both arent that fast" implies you think ostrich are slow
kiwi and penguins are slow...but those aren't all flightless birds lol
I dont even think penguins are in the same family of what is considered a flightless bird anyways
kiwi is though
you are clearly not using a taxonomic category
Not really no but you had do be snarky and you obviously understood what i said the first time
i understood and disagreed, and it seems your move was to try to dismiss my argument that Struthionidae has fast moving animals
unless I missed a recent study, people were confident a rex could deploy burst speed. The question was for how long and if it was the preferred hunting mechanism
Compared to their main predators that favor high speed and low stamina? Not fast enough
by that logic anything eaten by a cheetah is slow
you're trying to dismiss my point again though. The point is that the rex has the bone structure and capacity for speed. What's not known is how or if it used said speed
bingo
there are many "theories" on rex meaning many people say different things but that one is the most supported, end of story.
the story for any extinct animal tends to not end lol, but that's the current consensus as I know it
Sure, still dont think it is outpacing a large charcharodontosaurid, i think i spelled that right, in any way
"I bet it was slow but lots of stamina" - Majunkey
Yeah
so is this you retracting that statement and pivoting to saying there are faster therapods?
I saw a lot of gymnastics...and a comment that it's very slow
man im still curious how megaraptorians fit into tyrannosauridea...
I said what i said
rex relative to other something like a giga or acro is far slower because it didnt need to be
no complete skeleton found be like
it also depends on there prey and niche...
I think I also missed the step where we were certain these other animals were faster
Are they not much lighter in build? With tyrannosaurus being heavier and much more robust?
It's 9 tons now lol
mf keeps getting bigger
im just talking about any animal in general
not just the rex
fair
it depends alot on the species.
all of them have similar bone structure, being therapods
yep
almost all the musculature is conjecture
most physical traits for these animals are inferred using bone scans and testing physical limits that if broken result in the bone shattering
muscles are then added to accommodate those limits...but who knows how precise that is. Biology is filled with vestigial or bizarre adaptations
yeah...its a shame we will never know truley.
I will say stuff like giga is less studied
But when you line up giga with a rex the difference is so night and day in their scale its insane
get me ma time machine
since that's not possible I'm not sure what you mean. No complete giga skeleton was ever found
honestly mainstream media has caused well the giga to look like a concavenator on steroids and the rex to be a giant lizard
mainstream understanding is tragically not adjusting as fast as the field is lol
from what I'm seeing, the predicted giga size is about 1m longer than a rex
if only people did not make docu series USING ark models
and ofc that model is heavily inferred, since no complete giga skeleton was found
honestly i would try and go off of the creatures most similar but make sure its not a kaiju concav
From what i understand giga predictions are longer but the overall body frame and robustness is very thin compared to trex
Same with spino, obviously but spino is dumb so we dont talk about it
263ft LONG SPINO
so trve
from what I see gigas were generalist carnivores that ate whatever they felt like
latest study was how spino can't swim..... poor thing can't catch a break š
it says they likely preyed on sauropods though...and those are certainly NOT fast animals
Spino Checklist
-Cant Walk
-Cant Run
-Cant Stand on all 4's
-Cant Swim
-Eats fish
Fuckers couldn't move
paleontologists are the goofiest people
I think the assumption is that during this time they generally always lived around hadrosaurs and sauropods because they dominated the early cretaceous
Why late cretaceous south america and africa are the way they are for things like mapu
imagine telling a story but you only get one letter from one page every 10 years LOL
well after that megaraptorians took over and all hell went lose
and the force had been broken
Spino is lost interest for me
yeah bro lets talk about...
i want my big beefy alpha rex that runs at 50 mph because i want monsters not mortal animals and beasts you can just shoot down
i want plausible realism
alligator tier skin
if a rex teleports, I'll be pissed
only alligator tier skin bro...
ive an unrealistic hatred of realism
Godzillas leg sized giga (my favorite)
i mean if its bone plate itd have wildly reduced range of motion
I dont get why we gotta only do the obvious tropes
if only our biochemistry could be more epic
we needed more gravity
but temporarily
"Nothing personnel, kid" devours an inoccent beach bob
šæ
you'd never think it was epic
true
psychology results in you normalizing things and not finding them remarkable after exposure
They want to grow limbs back thats enough for me
if the standard for all lifeforms was higher then the best we have would be as proportionally better as our current best
thus my unrealistic hatred of reality
but my feelings want to be sated too
feelings of awe
wc should hire some cult leaders to get some tips on immersion
I mean, the game will never be well enough designed for full immersion
:/
Hello
Welp, waiting for the 31st š
A game designed for full immersion ceases to be a game
The isle
Because you shouldnāt watch nooblets and WC will release a roadmap on 31st
WC = Wildcard develops of ARK ._.
Um sure
Why would Superman know what WC means? Lazer vision don't help with that.
Iām pretty sure Superman had the power to make up his own powers at one point. So while laser vision wouldnāt help Iām sure he could think of something.
It wasn't a real question. š¤£
Could fly around really quick asking loads of people till someone told him?
Thatās canon
Nooblets just fell off real hard tbh, I used to watch his videos because they used to be helpfull but now he posts rants about ARK2.
Same šÆ
he needs to keep his channel and views relevant for 1 week in some way
That recent ARK 2 video was bad. And it was just full of comments of people agreeing with him that ARK 2 will be delayed for years. So many Sheep in there.
certain people tend to attract similar people
Roadmap comes on the 31st for ark related release dates
cynicism is too low risk
nooblets is chill
Every gameās cc eventually are just staying afloat with pennies and nickels content wise
eventually they will adapt or just die
Guys. Any news on the next gameplay show? When can pre-orders open?
About 5 messages up indicate a roadmap on the 31st (as would the latest tweet in the #766826918803800074 channel), but other than that not really
Doubt there will be pre-orders.
what is a road map
Im hoping pre order bonuses are not lame
š»
a roadmap is a game developer's way of letting players know of planned content for down the road. This may contain dates/release windows for stuff like gameplay, more reveals and release. and this roadmap is gonna cover Ark 1, Ark 2 and the animated series.
thx
pre order for a early access game? i highly doubt that will ever happen or get done a lot.
I didn't know the game was in early access. Sorry
we thought you already knew, but it was more aimed at the ''pre order bonuses shouldn't be lame'' message
Its happened before, ark was also a game where they dropped dlc whilst in early access so who knows
they had to drop Scorched bc of a lawsuit or they would've gone under
That was a very unique situation, that I doubt will happen again lmao
And in no way indicates a pattern
Ok
scorched was the only wildcard dlc in early access, aberration was a few months after leaving early access. (i don't count center as it's a mod map pushed to official)
IIRC scorched was supposed to happen anyway, but it would be free.
Not during early access, but yes, Ark DLC was going to be free at one point iirc as well
anyone else worried about the lack of gameplay
It's hard to worry when we all know it's the good old "ARK things gets delayed again"
Nope.
im worried about the whole game not gonna lie
lock on combat?
third person only?
and most of the time a game with a celeb in it is not very good...
Mods will be all platform and can add back FPV rasily
Unknown what role Vindiago will play
idk man
like i really hope it will be a great game
but fuck man i cant stop thinking about it
lets be honest the last few games these past years
have been crap
and im just worried ark will end up the same
main character right
well yeah but the FP animations will be god awful
Unknown šš½
They will probably not lock the MC and keep character customisation
Highly unlikely weāll play as Vin
Souls like combat sucks in FPV, probably why it was removed
and the new player traversal mechanics probably also wouldn't work well in first person
i just dont like lock on combat in general
Lock?
it's likely gonna be camera lock, not actual auto attack lock
ye ark 2 wil have lock on combat
I prefer any combat over left click spam
Shifter fell alseep fighting a bone bronto, woke up and was still fighting
š
Me but Beta King Titan after all my gigas died ā ļø
should have brought 1 extra giga
I had an Ice Titan
died?
I was pressing left click and I dozed off, woke up some time later and was still pressing left click
Finally it died
The King Titan
Usually lock is a choice, so hopefully its optional
It will probably be
Lock is very⦠meh
Its good when the player has to move a lot during combat
Hard to pop off in those games, you can win sure, not as interesting
Idk i barely see anyone use lock the entire time
Its usually just to refocus on the main target
In what game
Souls or monster hunter
unless im using a ranged weapon then i dont prioritize using lock
Souls players almost always use lock on
Except for specific attacks on some weapons in pvp
But very rarely
I didnt play the souls games as much, but i did play a lot of monster hunter
Idk i imagine most of the bosses would be more in line with a monster hunter creature in an arena. And i bet there would be a handful of humanoid bosses too
I like the idea of humaniod bosses
Could be like the ararai version of aztec jaguar warriors
there's a chance there might be some more genesis esc brute Aratai
Idk ark 2 ai with how everything is worded sounds insane compared to something like monster hunter
or like⦠any game for that matter
And the games that should have stuff like that dont xd
Im hoping bigger carnivores will also be less abundant in terms of rarity
The AI sounds like it's from Sons Of The Forest, where the monsters stalk you and wait for a good moment to strike
sow what Dinosaur in ark 2 will you all tam first me will be a Stegosaurus
š¦¤
whatever thing seems the most helpless
Most likely something that's fast and versatile, for now- that would be a Raptor, but if something like a Baryonyx gets added, Baryonyx
lets face it we spend the first 2 hours dying anyways
nah, i'd spend the first 2 hours in spectator mode going around the map
that ruins the first fun no?
it's just a joke, you probably wouldn't be able to tell either way
you know me too well
took you 30 min to figure out what place is known for waffles after all
while that is true, you also tricked me into thinking it was a person
who the hell would name their child waffles?
a belgian perhaps
Ark 2 better have every tame pet able
Real
even you as a tame pet lol
Think about it imagine petting a carno it'd be adorable
Ah, yes, just sitting on the couch petting the absolute horned monster of death
Petting your tames giving you affection points lol
Precisely
What would be the best creature in ark to pet?
Flobs, I think he's got a point...
we're not like americans with naming our children
Yes, because as we all know, Americans name their children after food products /s

We do
tell me you're lying
Wish that was possible lol
I have met a kid named pizza
oh god
Speak for yourself, my first daughter is most likely going to be named Midna and my first son is probably going to be named Richter
Nah, it's American tradition to name our children after foods.
Like how Elon named his child after some technological shit.
Maybe wherever you're from, sure. But in the rest of the states, not so much
Bruise, you hear that?
Look up the most popular U.S. baby names, I'm willing to bet that a food item isn't in the top ten, if even top 100
It's the sound of a joke going over your head.
Like a bird that thought to land on a tree, but decided 'nah' and continued moving on.
Like the wind blowing over a mountain top.
Nothing goes through you, aye?
Is the sound louder or softer than a bootleg
I guess youāre kidding, but please NO! We donāt need more clicking simulator.
The fuck is a boot leg?
Iād take daily pets over mutation stacking 10/10 times
Just play with hyenadons lol
Id say no for both, actually. š¤£
I want something more than that
i'm gonna name my son Edmund if i ever have one
I like mutations. Just not stat mutations
I hope hyaenodons don't make it into Ark 2 I SAID WHAT I SAID
Im sorry more?
Like missions to improve the affection or something with a purpose
Getting rid of my pro caving/boss fighting strategy there
Not just clicking and waiting
Actually one of the most useless creatures, no joke
Iām fine with missions or something similar to a side quest to permanently improve a tameās connection to the rider
I thought that too......
I think Ark 2 should be more about quality over quantity
Bro never used them lol
It kinda has to be. Since souls combat collapses with ark 1 creature densities
Something on those lines
I mean about breeding and bonding with your tames
Instead of serial production of gigas, we should have one special giga to use, you know?
It would be nice to have it work that way
I wonder if it would work to have creature species wide level ups that wouldnāt be lost on tame death
So if you kill someoneās giga they donāt lose everything they earned for āgigasā they just lose the game and need to tame another one
That's a new idea
You mean more character dependent?
Like, your proficiency in using said tame, right?
Someone (me) has to think them up lol
Tied to characters yes. Protected the same way your character levels and engrams are
The more you use them, the more you know how to get out of them, etc.
I think it would be good to feel like you donāt lose meta progress on death. No gear = you canāt do much, but at least the huge grind of meta progression canāt be offlined
That's kind of the lord to troop relationship in Warhammer. I like it
More maneuvers you learn to do while riding said dino, possibly
I now you donāt like Atlas and their skill tree, but they did something like that where you need the skills to tame and ride the creatures. Not saying it should be the same, but it would be interesting to work from there.
I mean you could tie skill trees to the same system
Personally, I think it should be that way lol. You need certain skills to be able to quickly tame creatures, and get different perks for riding them
I see this as a given for ark 2, and itās not quite what my idea is about
One of the few things I think Atlas has that would be ok to implement, if done right
My idea is more about unlocking bonding traits for each species through interaction with it, and that some/all of those traits persist after you/the tame die
I got it. But itās basically building over what atlas had, you know?
Something like "I put 5 points into rexes" now all the rexes I am riding get a 10% boost?
You are adding more complexity to it, and I think itās a good way to go.
Does atlas have traits that work like that? Where they level up through use of the trait/interaction with the creature?
No
At its most simple, yes
Not that I know, at least
Although that may be better suited to only apply to creatures you tame or breed
More complexity is what makes a game last
Itās just about taming and riding, I mean the skills
Yeah, Iām saying in a positive way. Itās good
Imo itās replayability that makes multiplayer games last
For singleplayer games itās complexity and content breadth
I mean, it's kind of both
Lotta simple but replayable games out there get a lot of players lol
New content helped Ark 1 a lot, I donāt know if new content fits replayability
They should keep the constant flow of meaningful updates and DLCs
Ark appeals to complex and content breadthā¦but the issue is that the model depends upon constant content drops to keep the population stable
A replayable game can run largely by itself for a long time, and that extra time can grant dedicated devs more time between updates to make better content. Thereās less vicious community pressure
True. It's a good model imo
Itās wildly unsustainable and means a loss of dev support spells instant death for the game
but, and I have to give heavy props to WC, they actually DO foster some replayability by having pvp revolve around wiping and rebuilding and offering mods for unofficials and pve/sp to experiment with different settings or experiences
The alternative is something like cod. Replays of the same old stuff, with extra cash flow over old skins
The current model is kind of why the Ark community is so ridiculously stupid and ravenous for EVO events and such, but that's a whole other thing
people love COD because it's easy to replay
I mean, give a model that doesn't rely on new content being added, that also isn't just a battoepass/subscription/pay to use skin scam
let's first be very clear that a model for longevity is NOT the same discussion as a profit model
I don't see why it's different
one determines the duration of developer support, the other can be entirely independent
a game with high longevity can be a profit loss and/or have no dev support, but can still have players
In single player, with no servers
WC support is not required for unofficial servers to exist afaik
I mean, in a degree it is
In either case, name an unsupported recent game that isn't single player and still has a large active playerbase
In Ark 2, can you make your own character or do you have to play as that bald Hollywood star? I forgot what his name was
Santiago is more likely going to be an NPC. We're going to be our own people.
recent sort of makes for an impossible ask? Recent games can't have demonstrated longevity
and would you like to define large as thousands of players? Or do you want games that retain their playerbase across time?
Retaining a player base that is thousands, in roughly the same number of players
hmm, one could argue minecraft did this in the transition period between Mojang and microsoft
natural selection 2 has dropped from 1-2k players to about 200 and kept that count for almost 8 years (game released in 2012) and is still running
Goated game
but most large playerbase games these days are games as service models...so no support = can't support a large playerbase. Definitionally impossible
yep. I've been helping work on the game and it's been an honor
awesome community that has shocking dedication
(wishing ark was like that sometimes lol)
10% or whatever of the community never fighting a single boss according to steam xd
not sure if that stat is an easy grab, but definitely a huge percent never beat a boss
I wouldn't think it's 10% of the active player base.
It's just 10% of steam accounts of ark bought
Would be pretty poggers if we got another concept-piece this Friday
š»
I think at most maybe something regarding the roadmap. Seeing as the new stuff we had this month was every 2 week.
is there anything on the release date of Ark 2?
Ark roadmap has been confirmed to release on the 31st for all ark related release dates, stay tuned
Also, š»š»š»
will you be on the road map booge lol
š»
Release date of Ark 2 is gonna be 2026
Full release? Perchance.
Yeah, I mean sounds good to me
I think itās way lower on Xbox, tho it could be game pass players just stopping in to test the game and leave
Hopefully they will keep their player base long enough to finish Ark 2ā¦
Again, donāt spread misinformation
Fr
I would like to see Ark 2 have a better character system, something more permanent, a profile that is always available and cannot be lost via silly means (ie transferring servers). Likewise, I think Ark 1's idea of 'longevity' is borderline exploitive, ie you must keep playing indefinitely or else you will lose everything you have (except your character, which as mentioned can be lost anyway)
i rather have multiple characters in different servers/clusters
I've mentioned somewhat of a similar idea, where you have your character that is your character for official, (and then maybe one for unofficial/singleplayer as well, but that's another thing) and that's it. One survivor, one server at a time, one tribe at a time, with a cooldown on leaving and joining tribes and possibly servers as well (mainly to combat mega tribes in my original conversation, but also just for the sake of ease of access, because no one likes to sift through hundreds of servers to find out which one they have a character on)
if you mean the decay timer on servers, it's probably not a good idea to have someone log in, make a base, then log out for a month or two and keep their spot when it's taking up space
you can remove the decay timer on servers but on official there could be dozens of people to use that spot instead
Id like to see a medium decay timer and make it the same for all levels of buildings. I feel it's a huge problem that alpha tribes get to tek and pillar most of the map, then dont have to come back for a month. Meanwhile the newbies trying to get started have to be on every few days to keep thatch around, assuming they can find a buildable spot.
Yeah, always hated that. If it's a month for tek, make it a month for thatch. Why make it a lesser timer if you're just going to get raided anyways, if the other tribes feel so inclined? Like for real, what do we gain by having all tiers not be the same, like a week or something
Maybe two weeks, but obviously these are just placeholder suggestions
a week sounds good in general
For a big enough tribe, yeah
if all you need is to log in once a week that's a lot of time to get to it
I think two would be nice for the solos who may not be able to get on for extended periods of time
But that's probably just me
i've mostly played on a server that removed the decay timer though, but during that time i logged on like once every day for most of it
I feel 3 weeks so someone can go on vacation and not get ruined. And have a universal vault with maybe 30 slots you can keep by logging in with app. For those going to school or whatnot and needing a few months.
Ehhhhhhhhhh, idk about that, necessarily š
The idea of a safezone with limited slots has made the rounds before, and the consensus is that most people don't like it, apparently
then you get the people who will build in resource spots like metal and block their spawns for weeks without having to log in
I'll accept whatever if its fair across the board. The vault wouldnt be bases... its an upload. Totally off the server.
If there's a top dog resource like metal again, it better be in places that are either terrible to build or not buildable, period
It would help to have a cap on construction.
I know, a safezone. Most people don't like the idea, for some reason š¤·āāļø
depends on the cap, i've seen some very big, very creative bases on official
The idea of a TC (tool cupboard, like in Rust) has been floated here, too š
Most people we hear from is not most people that play. Its alpha tribe kind of people. Lots of people play a few days at a time and never post
if they could find a way to prevent pillaring a section of the map that'd be great
i remember logging into a rag server and finding viking bay completely blocked, all the way to the volcano
The cap could be space? I just hate pillaring and massive walls in the middle of nowhere
I do like the creativity of some builders. Dont want that to go away
Valguero was horrible for blocking off beaches
A TC would solve the "your base is now taking over the map" issues
hmm. maybe like a tribe flag to place down? the tribe gets 1, and it establishes an area around it where the decay timer is the normal amount, anything outside of that radius has a decay timer of a day maybe?
Or other such scummy building practices
Atlas did the claim flag. It works ok. And larger tribes can have extra flag or two.
can't tell you how many times i've seen people leave a foundation, bed, and vault near the rag desert crates
Look up what the tool cupboard does, I think you'd probably agree that it's one of the better routes for these types of games, also maybe search it in this chat to see past convos on it
Or leave a locked trap at a spawn site.
I'll look up TC. Sounds like what I'd like.
or hell, just a large base that takes up half the spawn sites in an area
I bounced the idea that bases be instances off server. Has some problems but cleans up the server a lot. Just thinking out of the box
Or foundations on a spawn site so they dont spawn... arrgggg
i'm not sure how that could work
unless it's like only bases in instanced caves which presents issues
Speaking of spawning, I really hope the player spawn zones aren't like literal points on the map that you can record/look up and put some shitty death trap on later, always hated that shit. Only cowards who are too scared to face any form of adversity put traps on spawns
Kinda like home in ESO. You see a pic of the base but need to actually enter to do anything. And that takes you to another part of the server just for that base
I kinda like spawn sites at ship crash sites with no build
and it would have to be anywhere across the map unless you don't allow building anywhere
Yeah. Guess your right. Maybe allow declared wars where other tribes can challenge you and get access?
Or better yet, just have the spawn points be procedural. There's almost no reason that player spawn points should be preset points imo
I want most of the map being no build. With immersive taming, traps should have less use so no need to fill the map with buildings
How's that work for retrieving gear?
i mean, one part of ark 1 that I like is that you can build anywhere
if ark 2 limits base building to preset areas that's a huge step down
especially to a sandbox survival game
Im expecting the map tp be huge so there should still be lots of cool places to build. But i get your point
I don't know what you mean, the initial spawns on the beaches are garbage for getting you back to your loot anyways? Like I don't understand
Initial spawns you could choose somewhere kind of close. But if you die on one side of the map and spawn on the other, it could make it impossible to get your gear
Yes the building decay is one thing, not possible to fix in Ark 1, but it's sad when you see people staying up almost 24/7 for 6 months because they don't wanna let go of their progress
Gen 1 was horrible for this reason alone, but I understand what they were going for and it didn't work out having the zones buildable in Gen 2 either, so it's certainly a dilemma and something I hope they figure out for the random events that Ark 2 will have, so I don't have some wounded rex event spawning in my base just because it's in an alcove that has a spawn path for that particular event lol
It kind of worked in Gen2, with the missions adapting to their terminal.
Nonononono, I mean the exact spawn points, not getting rid of the selectable zones. Like, you know how on The Island, if you spawn at the first spawn zone, and it puts you at that peninsula from the very first Ark trailer ("The Footpaw", I think it's called in-game)? I mean procedurally generating those points within the zones, so that you can't pinpoint the exact spot where you spawn and put kill boxes down
If they removed spawn zones, that'd be the dumbest thing lol
I hope ark 2 is different enough from ark 1 that i have to figure things out again.
Same here
Well from what I've read, it will be a completely different experience š¤£
Ahh. Sorry, misunderstood. Yeah, not specific spots would be great!
Don't spawn zones also have like 3-4 sub-zones you can spawn in?
Cause I know with South-zone 1, I've spawned across the river from the Footpaw, and then sometimes on the beach near the rock-formations at South-zone 1
Island is kinda small. I expext ark2 to be huge. And some spawn zones on rag are huge.... and even took you from beach to mountain
Yeah, the zones are differently shaped than what is seen in the spawn menu
"Big glowy circle" is actually more like "literally anywhere on this beach, well into the other big glowy circle"
Big glowy circle is more like deformed square, with each corner being a spawn zone
We're assuming we will respawn... could be permanent death. š
But hopefully that is remedied with Ark 2, and the general area of the circle is a bit more fleshed out and explained
Unironically hope a perma-death gamemode is better treated then in ARK-1.
(And also procedurally spawns you at almost any point in the defined shape)
ARK-2 still needs slime-molds
It do be needin slime molds doe
I feel like the fact that someone at WC not only liked the idea but personally asked that the submission be kept in the last creature vote means something good for our slimy bois
But still I pray š
The best assumption to be is that: you are going to wander around a portion of Planet Arat, which will be absolutely massive and many things will happen all at the same time everywhere, which does mean a bigger map is likely going to happen
I agree. I expect one huge map but they could do separate servers for regions. Effectively making the planet a cluster of servers. And go even further and block access to certain regions by level or need to complete a quest/ boss.
Slime mold that spawns from old kibble and starts eating all your good kibble and anything with power
I really hope they just do the same thing they have always done, but don't sign another exclusivity deal with Nitrado in regards to server hosting on Xbox and also have bigger maps that take longer to develop and stay away from the Atlas approach
I agree. Mutliple servers of same map gives more oppurtunity to find your perfect base site.
I hope it wasn't some random dev also.
Someone like Jat or Jesse was like "ayo, this shits good"
I have a feeling I know who, but I'm not gonna say for the case of potentially being wrong
As long as there are more than a couple viable base spots on the map. That was (and is) ark1s biggest limitation imo
......Mind DM'ing me who you 'think' it is?
Sure
Imagine if ark had terraforming
Would be cool but abused so easily
I did - and I hate it
Lol
makes you wonder why most games with terraforming are predominantly PVE
Ark 2 is all pve confirmed?
Look I donāt mean to be rude but, can you try to use your brain?
wish we could get some form of in game generated images of actual assets instead of concepts, I understand wanting to keep things quiet and on the low but something is better than nothing, the amount of games announced post reveal of ark 2 that have shown significant progress. You ask for feedback and ideas but give us nothing to work off..
No, it's pvp/pve/sp confirmed
Please, don't become... him, but worse
We only just got rid of him
He's still here
Heās gone
good riddance
Why he keep posting bullshit posts
Crabs confirmed to be lotus's alt-account?
Me and him have nothing in common he's just posting bullshit comments everyday
So he's gone for good you say?
hopefully
Who got rid of him
ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
He may have just up and left, we don't know
But praise the lord for no more random, bullshit posts š

How do you tame santiago? Beat him in a race? Or sit thru 15 hrs of him acting?
jut say family
Is ark 2 out yet?????!
Or just have a family 𤣠?
a 5 second google search would've told you, and no it's not out yet. the Ark franchise roadmap wich is being shared on March 31st could contain a release date, but that will only be for PC and Xbox series x/s as Wildcard has a timed exclusive deal with Xbox. Expect playstation some time after
š»
Not yet but just so you know itās coming to Xbox and pc on launch, unknown when it will come to PS
Whoās the bloke in ark 2 ment to be in the lore?
Santiago
Same chap who helped kill Rockwell?
Can confirm he was aboard the Genesis and most likely had rigged Eden to separate upon arrival of a habitable planet
santiagos clone was in a cryo fridge, there are multiples bodies of one person no?
technically santiago extinction is a clone aswell or did i get that wrong
The Santiago referenced in the notes on gen2 happened prior to the events on the island
