Oh no. What I am seeing in the anime is subpar storytelling so far (maybe it improves later in season one, I'm just disappointed at the moment), and every man is wrong in whatever they do. || Even John is apparently wrong for telling his daughter to stay at home because she saves him and Meiyin while sick. || I also agree with Juicy that every thing plot wise is rather quick and simple Saturday-cartoonish oh-no-aaaand-it's-fixed, which clashes strongly with the deep themes and general blood-and-sand vibe to the fighting, so I'm really, really hoping that the lore stays separate from the animated series. They're better off not mixed so they can stand alone as different stories and not muddy each other.

Everyone is so terribly preachy, it's actually ruining what little story there is. || The gladiatrix was one of the better characters and died in a single episode, but I was so happy that SOMEONE was calling Helena out. Helena is also extremely unlikable because of this || Where the game sparks tears with every one of Helena's map intros and I actively sought notes to read them, I feel like I toughed this out due to 'well I love the game and there's dinosaurs'. Meanwhile my other half, who doesn't play Ark, wanted to know why the quetzal chick had a mohawk and the pteranodons had head fins, so....

I didn't see the trailer, I'm kinda glad tbh, she's a trope but she's different. One thing I feel like they changed is that everyone is a king killer or a defy-nature personality type, which would make sense if later it turns out that people were plucked from history based on their willingness to fight king titan. Mei Yin died saving her village in game and it was a bit "eh" that they changed her from a reluctant defender to an aggressive die-for-the-cause type.

Absolutely. I'm trying to judge the story as a standalone by itself and not be too harsh on lore changes and instead what else we actually see, like the preachiness and tone whiplash. It could be solid enough if it could settle those and Mei's original death in the animation was still decent. I just found that change intriguing as it made me think the Arks picked out tyrantslayers.

I think it's good that they changed it a bit because the fact that we have to wait 1.5 years for 6 episodes means that the series has to speed up. I think the major grievances revolve around pacing, game lore deviations, and a strong emphasis on non-traditional relationships.

Keep in mind many of the folks that did like the show so far probably talked it death when it first aired, and if they came here for discussion, they probably got tired of defending the same points over and over again. Especially when most of the hate are posts like, "shows woke, it bad." Doesn't leave much for discussion.

It doesn't help that we've not heard jack about it in ages, and we're supposed to be getting something soon, which is just being swept under the rug communication wise. That may lead many people to bridge the connection of, "If the peeps running the show/game don't care, then why should I?"

And with typos in the credits, random unedited sound effects, and poor promotion in addition to the lack of any recent useful news, why should people care or have a positive opinion on the show especially if it's not really even the story they were anticipating.

The show was done on a budget, but it's a good homage to ARK as a whole, which will only get expanded on into further Seasons

I can't blame them for the lack of advertising, simply because the show would make absolutely zero sense if you haven't played the game before. There are so many nuiances to pick up on that anyone outside of the ARK sphere would lose interest fast, methinks.

My biggest complaint though, is that the pacing is all over the place.

I feel like we lost alot of potential with Season 1.

But the Island was also had the least world building so maybe we were trying to rush into the Arks where the Lore is heavier. Scorched and Ab tandem season showing the separate routes and their interactions with the people described in the notes.

The island lore has always seem so confusing and there’s a lot that goes on. Some of it did feel rushed but it was still awesome to watch. I think it’s literally just seeing the game I’ve spent so much time on get turned into a show with so much attention to the source material.

1. Folks don't like that the show deviates as far from the game lore as it does, and in the process have bastardized certain character development opportunities.

2. Folks believe the show has a strong presence of atypical/"progressive" relationships, or has some not so hidden agenda regarding misandry, sexism, and/or racism. (Trying to be careful here, but I don't liking using weaponized words like "woke".)

3. The show has also had very little publicity, and advertisement. Being regionally limited on a very specific platform has also hurt the shows ability to reach even the current game audience much less anyone outside the game. In addition to having incredibly slow production times, while still having stuff like typos in the end credits of the first episode, or unedited creature sounds in the sixth episode.

I'd say point three has been the biggest detriment to the show honestly...

1. As stated the Island itself barely made sense in the grand scheme of things. My biggest gripe is that we didnt spend more time with the characters during the Tek Ascension and Boss progression. Which is where the meat of the Lore starts getting established. Rockwell's obsession needs to ramp up with his experimentation
   1a. I liked the addition of Bob and he feels like he will represent the one that tries again since ultimately Genesis cant start until 'we' arrive.
2. The L in LGBT has been prevalent since the get go. Wasn't there a Lesbian Love Triangle by the time of Extinction?
   2a. The personalities and themes revolving this characters involves alot of such issues. Especially Rockwell with his borderline Mengela Experimentation Mindset and Mideval perception of women. But he also values knowledge so much he is willing to look past the gender and at the mind and come to see Helena as almost an equal.....which is what amplifies his Mania when she rejects his philosophy.....for she understands him, how could she not agree with his brilliance
   3.Thats just bad business?

To my understanding in game. Diana was the only one to be brought back....and that was after Helena started tweaking with the engramic matrix. So Bob respawning so early in the story implies either different rules, or someone manipulating the system already that didnt before.

Personally I feel like they tweaked the lore to add the one who tries again into the main story instead of coming after. Perhaps the Homo Dues themselves?

I can forgive being overly ambitious with timeframes when the products are cool with good intentions, and Ark has had many good things happen.

What I don't forgive is complacency with long standing issues such as decade old bugs, ignoring (maybe even rewarding) RMT, allowing biased enforcement on official servers, and then on top of that still missing deadlines or introducing dumb monetization strategies, whilst having unprofessional, arrogant, or even just silent communications.

It's hard to see the care in the more recent products. It's fairly clear that Jeremy and Jesse have gotten tired or bored with dealing the ark power struggle. They clearly know how to curate an awesome product, but the game/franchise is suffering because of a lack of accountability which may be a consequence of years of dealing with a scumbag publisher. Lost Colony seems to have some cool stuff planned, too bad they want to spoil 80% of it in an attempt to keep the irate/disinterested community from installing some other game.

Don't exaggerate. This is an animated series, not a 1:1 game lore retelling, so there will be plot changes to make it more watchable. And since it's a wildcard and they're making half a season 2 years apart, they had to shorten Rockwell's story because it wouldn't be possible to sensibly tell it in 6 episodes, as there would be no stable allies. Although it could be better written down to make it closer to the lore.And by the way, I will also mention, because some people don't like: "pushing animated series into Lost Colony" just adding a past life characters story from the Animated series doesn't mean that the series is canonical, the parts of the series that we didn't hear about in the notes can be canonic, but the series itself is not.

The complain of the AS getting pushed into game cannon isn't the backstory of Rockwell and stuff.

It's the Helena x Mei Ying shipping that doesn't fit with the story in Ab, and is quite impossible in the island portion

Helena it seems like she is interested in her Additionally, in the prologue she talks about the love she found, and on the screen it is the same drawing as in the note about meeting mei in the aberration. And in the engram codex notes, you have an explanation of what happened with them. In short, she was with Helena, but she thought she'd never see her again, so she went to Diana. Helena then reached the aberration and had to choose, but Rockwell, being a good friend, helped Helena. And then Extinction and Helena ascension. So, overall, there are no problems here. The real problem is what happened to Diana after Helena's ascension and why game optimisation sucks so bad

I'd probably be more patient if they had stuck closer to the games character development. I get modifying the story/events a bit, or even modifying them a lot, but there's very little reason to have jumbled one of the best things about the game lore which in my opinion, and I think many others here, were the characters.

So, having to wait so long, with so little useful information, and knowing it'll be the same delay excuses for seemingly everything going forward with the franchise for something that we know already deviates from folks initial expectation is a tough ask for an audience...

It's easy to use, "they adapted it for a larger TV audience," as an excuse for differences, but they've now made it clear they want to change the game lore in similar sorts of ways. The reality is they just wanted to change the story, so they did.

*And it's easier to soften the blow to the old fans by framing the changes as a derivation of bending to some sort of imposed television norms than to just come out and say, "we think this story works better for what we want to do in the future."

However, I do think many people would consider hiding behind some self-imposed TV show rules as a means of rewriting game lore is kinda disrespectful to Soskins previous work and fans of the game.

My argument is either keep the two separate (which is no longer what they're doing as of LC), or flat out commit to the new lore across all platforms (which many old fans despise). They started out saying the lore changes in the show were to "make it more tv friendly", but now they've started putting show lore in the game, which can't work without rewriting the old lore to match the show, but they know that'll piss fans off, so they just kinda ignore that and hope us idiots will ignore it too. However people keep parroting the old sentiment of "well, the game lore has to be adapted to fit tv," while ignoring that the show lore has now become core game lore. Which keeps diverting from WC's responsibility of owning up to the changes, and by proxy the negative reception of either media. It's no longer about adapting the game to tv, it's about changing the entire lore in a way they think will fit both without acknowledging the changes so they lose as few spenders as possible.

Not to pull out of the hypothetical allegory, but I actually didn't mind Rockwells role in Gen2. It made sense post aberration. It also led to some cool dialogue, cool character resolution, and an awesome cutscene. I'm not sure how they'll ever be able to accomplish that with the same irredeemable weight through the shows Rockwell. Not that we have any chance of seeing Gen2 on screen.

Turns out the Lost King wasn't really the villain. We kinda are.

The year is 2070, Ark 3 is coming out. Rockwell returns for the xth time with exactly the same ambitions as he did in 2017

Maybe it's time to pack up what's left and move to a new server.

They did.

And then proceeded to retcon about 500 things in Lost Colony, replacing long-lasting plot points with ones ripped from The Animated Series, causing a shitton of inconsistencies, and character motivations which go nowhere and fall completely flat.
