Ight, so here's my personally review so far of TAS.
Generally, it's a 6.8 for me. Slightly went up, but not much.
Gonna tag @oak brook in hopes she reads this. Cause I'd be down to have a conversation about this if she's down.

||So, first thing first. Disappointed on how they handled Bob.
I understand he's a gag character. But even a gag character can have some emotional moments.
I think instead of dying unexpectedly from an arrow in the back, I think he should've lived to become a captive with Helena.
They tried to make the Irish mans death something worth while. But this is some random bozo I could not give two shits about, cause he was just introduced.
So, I think they should've replaced him with Bob. And have Bob be the one to be killed at the end of Episode 1.
Rockwell also is comically evil. Honestly, it'd be a bit hard for them to do anything interesting with this other than 'comically evil man that's also crazy.' As that totally hasn't been over done before, versus having an actual genuinely manipulative character that takes the audience for a surprise when he does become an asshat here and there.
I love what they did with Helena, and made her bearable compared to her note counterpart. But I feel her romancing Mei-Yin is unnecessary.
She woke up on The Island a few days/weeks ago, to even a month. And her falling in love instantly right after her married wife died feels soooooo goddamn dishonorable to her dead wife.
Feels more like she meant nothing to Helena outside of the flashbacks, and says "fuck it. New life, new wife."||

Besides these, the show was alright. The pacing felt too fast or too slow at times, and Ep 2-5 where pretty boring compared to 1 and 6. Though even those had pacing issues.
Also, way to many flashbacks. Most of them could've been explained of characters being more human, and having heart to hearts with other characters. And allowing these stories/past traumas be what connects them via dialogue.

I honestly didn't much mind the flashbacks. They didn't feel like they were adding new things to the story (like so many shows use flashbacks to explain things due to poor writing).

Helena's story could've been the first 8-10 minutes of a almost 50 minute long episode.

I think many of the pacing issues stem from the fact that 2 seasons ain't enough for how much there is/could be.

We also live in a world where media has to cater to short attention spans.

Well, seems like the other half of Part 2 of Season-1 is Scorched.
So the pacing is the fact they're shoving multiple maps into one season, and even possibly more as we saw Vin-Diesel at the end also on Aberration.

Man is now a weasel, but he sees Nerva forces starts to fall and betrays him. Acting like this was the plan all along.

he did his experiments on volunteer people and such, he was crazy about his experiments but not to the point of forcing it on random prisoners,

obviously that was the start, he slowly become worse, I am just shocked to see him like this on first EP and their first encounter with helena.

|| As much as it saddens me, I understand why they did Rockwell the way they did. A large part of seeing his metamorphosis is in one sided hindsight. Us knowing he's doing shady stuff while playing Helena. Not only that, but his character in game serves as a reward to the player for following the survivors, and since Jeremy and Jesse have to gamble on getting new seasons they can't afford to spend until the end to surprise us with Helenas revelation when the audience had known for ages that Rockwell had slipped.

If for some reason, the show gets additional seasons, they might be in a pickle as I'd expect them to soft reboot with Bob as the main character back on Island. Which could work still, and maybe Rockwells reveal on Aberration could still be shocking, but I see why they wouldn't gamble leaving Rockwells character a surprise.

I love the idea that he was a Looney in his time. I still wish they could've had him fight his previous life, and try to reform himself, but inevitably succumbing to another human flaw. It would've made his show character that much better than just being crazy from the get go. Knowing that makes the game Rockwell that much better IMO. ||

I also wonder if it's a fair trade for, game Rockwell for show Rockwell, vs game Helena for show Helena. My God Helena is such a better character in the show IMO.

Yeah, but people can change. Rockwell would be more than capable of feigning a changed character, and may even do something instrumental to taking nerva down that is seen as an act of goodwill. Him killing is hard to defend, but maybe that boy was also a murderous whatever.

What could've changed to keep him more in line with his original self, while keeping TAS story. Is if he was, you know....a manipulator.
They almost had it with Rockwell being nice to Helena after she wakes up, and if they continued with that, that would've been great.
he could see the benefit Helena has with her knowledge, and being from the 21st century. And took advantage of this.
He tells Helena that he's only helping the Legion for his own self benefit, but shares no morals or ideology that Nerva's barbaric nature has.
This gains Helena's trust, and they become friends in the Legion camp.
Helena could still try to escape as Nerva stops her, but due to her being under Rockwell's control, he gets punished.
His punishment being forced to choose a prisoner and being forced to feed Nerva's rex with one of the slaves. (basically what we get in the show, but Rockwell is now being forced to do this)
Rockwell picks Bob, and we get the same scene with the kid, but it's Bob instead being consume.
After this, Helena would be forced to talk to Nerva like normal. But now both the viewer and Helena have a good reason to hate Nerva other than "man bad cause he enslaves people."
Everything goes down as normal, but Rockwell actually helps Helena escape the camp without Nerva knowing he helped her.
Now, we have Rockwell as an insider.
He'd still be helping Nerva, but trying his best to steer him away from killing Helena, as he needs her intelligence to understand the ARK's.
Than later on, when the New Legion are starting to die off, he could betray Nerva and start joining Helena.
There, we both have Rockwell's original personality. With TAS plot.
