Just thought of an idea how they could've handled the respawn system, while still having it.

(idea is inspired by the game 'Soma' and 'Dark Souls')
Whenever a new clone is made it requires the DNA of that person.
Normally, since the ARK's aren't meant for the same person the come back. Once you die, your corpse decomposes and is reused for a new clone. (the ARK's literally sucking any and all minerals that're the building blocks of life) infinitely recycling them.
Well, with Helena tampering with the respawn protocol, it causes some issues.
While yes, you 'do' respawn. You have though a gamble chance.
You see, your DNA is what allows/helps you be created on the ARK's.
But every time you die, and die, and die, that DNA gets damaged/mutated.
Leading a gambling chance that each death, you could loss a non-noticable amount, or literally 'all' of your humanity/emotions.
Some people (like non-roleplaying PvP players) had such bad luck that they where just created without emotions. Only with a deadpan face.
While most people spawn in with all of their humanity.
But over time, you have chance to lose more, and more, and more of your emotions.

This could've lead to some interesting plot-points in the later maps.
More specifically, Santiago.

Soft sci-fi focuses more on characters and is ok with leaning slightly more into fantasy.

The colony ship was built around the same time as the arks but the events of Gen 2's story happen after the events of Aberration. At the end of Extinction the ARKs return to Earth and Aberration crash lands. Rockwell gets out of the wreckage and heads towards ARAT prime which has a transfer link to the colony ship. Transfers in ARK lore seem to just transfer your consciousness into a new clone body on the other side rather than actually teleporting so Rockwell arrives in what is likely a regular human body but his mind is still corrupted. He then gets his hands on element and mutates himself again but this time things go a little differently, hence him being able to talk on Gen 2 but not on Aberration.

The dodorex existing in the simulation is canon, but it existing on the island isn't. The one creature from a non-canon map that seemingly exists outside of the simulation is the ice wyvern, due to the managarmr dossier mentioning it (although that dossier also says it lives on scorched earth, which is not true.)

I wouldn't mind if they gave characters 2-lives, like some fucking Mario game.
But with Santiago, Diana, and the possibilities of other characters. It makes death not something to care about in the story. (again, just personally.)

The concept of cloning though, is good.
Instead of resurrecting the same character 4+ times, why not just hard-reboot the character and let them have 'no' memories, and go a different path then what their last version took?

Something akin to Rockwell.
Imagine Rockwell on a rocking-chair, in the middle of nowhere on his porch of his cabin, with a 12-gauge.
It isn't the Rockwell we knew from ARK-1, but a new one that actually is good. (but a smartass.)
