Here’s the breakdown. LC takes place after Gen 2. The intro shows us that Meeka and Helena are talking at the same time as LC is going on. We know that Meeka and Helena are approximately 1000 years from when the Genesis ship arrived because Helena stated that Rockwell has been dormant in the core of the colony ship for a millennium. Helena states the last time we spoke was 1000 years ago (Gen 2). This is is me approximating but the timeline goes, Legacy maps: 10-0 BR, Gen 1 &2: 0 AR, Lost colony: 1037 AR. AR is when the ship arrived at Arat, not the end of Extinction.

Okay so I just had a realization on Helena on arat, in the ending she mentions “I scuttled the ship” and in the genesis 2 ending she mentions “I’m almost out of time to back myself up!-“. Meaning the Helena on arat is at minimum HLN-A with a body however we also know she has Helena’s memories and going off the finale of the arat prime story, we got the codex to the ship meaning HLN-A could very well have pulled a Lost colony Rockwell upon arrival to earth and made herself a body that has all the memories of Helena deus but also implanted her own HLN-A memories into it. But unlike Rockwell which has split being in one body, Helena willingly seems to be a single being.

Meanwhile with the finale to boot, Helena reveals the fact Rockwell just like before on lost colony to save his own skin, likely using the codex implanted himself into the seed core fragment of the ship. Making it extremely risky to claim the codex and revive all those lost during the crash as well as those lost on earth and the other arks. However going off the road map, I suspect we face Rockwell one FINAL time in Journeys of Santiago aka the final dlc expansion seemingly for Ark Ascended before Ark 2 drops. After all, Journeys of Santiago is slotted for the end of 2027 while Ark 2 has been said to drop in 2028 (ignoring delays of course) so this definitely could line up with leaving Ark 2 as a sand box without any story worries while journey of Santiago ends up being the story prequel to Ark 2 and why many characters are back as well as the fact of why we are likely shutting down tek stuff in Ark 2 with what we see with what Santiago and Meeka are doing

What other villain would we have if we got a final prologue dlc to tell what’s going on in arat then? It atleast had explainable reasoning. Rockwell before he arrived on lost colony was an overseer so he could basically do as he wishes but now he’s disconnected from the ark network to an extent until he got to the genesis ship. He in turn uses the codex to make his own people and as a final act of defiance sneakily makes a back up just like how Helena does. This definitely fits with Rockwells character of being a little snake in the grass and hiding in the shadows

While i agree with your sentiment toward Rockwell and his capabilities. But I find its just lazy writing to just keep rehashing the same bad guy. Why not put a twist on it and we find out Helena got corrupted somehow and now we have to fight her at the end and save her. Be creative, and risky. Not lazy, and safe

Granted we also aren’t sure if Rockwell is still corrupted or not down there. All we do know is Helena figured out Rockwell survived and is residing within the crash site with the codex so if they touch it, he could awaken and cause disaster for the life of arat but it could also be possible the 2 Rockwells split and the one that’s innocent resides down there while the actual corrupted one is somehow off plotting or sleeping down there. After all, it’s now clear there are 2 Rockwells and this could be the ticket to have the good one ‘redeem’ himself even tho he really did nothing in technicality

It likely did send us to arat however that still doesn’t add up, the codex somehow ended up on the good ring that crash landed on Arat. Meaning it had to of been on the ship before the crash. So the timings could easily just be fumbled and wildcard made a whoopsie

The reason why I say it’s on the ring, it’s because Helena mentions if they touch it or go searching for it, Rockwell or whatever remains of him that he hid away on the good ring could easily awaken and cause chaos on arat and they want to avoid that from happen until they’re all ready to take him down for good

And it was specifically in the core of the ring deep in the planet where Rockwell’s remaining fragment resides and is in deep slumber

And the ones on aberration are presumed before the two had actually met and gotten together during/close to the end of the war. The reason why I say this is due to Diana and Santiago knowing each other slightly but not entirely with what the notes say, Diana knowing Santiago was one of the most infamous people during the war. So this could be the explanation between them

The one that’s more confusing is Mei and Helena but the devs did say they wanted to add some stuff from the animated series into canon so this and Rockwells daughter seem to be the key things (As well as technically bob)

Which also implies we were never uploaded to the ship as we presumably never made it to Arat BEFORE that to do so, so basically wildcard's writers, if I interpret it all correctly, have now come down firmly on the "could it be the same survivor through all canon maps" with a solid "no" despite our implants listing all bosses rip

That was always the initial intention iirc--that the Gen 1/Gen 2 survivor was someone separate from the char you play through the Arks--but they'd said they wanted it left up to interpretation. now it seems it's impossible

So the player character, if they'd gone through Gen 1/2, would've had to get to Arat Prime to begin with and already upload there, which clearly isn't possible as even now we have to fight our way there to start with

Plus we have no memory of that ingame (we don't have the Gen 1/2 engrams or anything, and Helena explicitly mentions Earth/Extinction and not the ship)

It really doesn't make a lot of sense to put it here in the game release timeline. I feel like they were GOING to write it so it's shortly after extinction, but for some reason changed the timeline in development or something

I was expecting it to be shortly after Extinction and would've loved that, especially if we could've run into Rockwell in a non-hostile fashion but I'm assuming he's long gone by LC timeline (I haven't gotten anywhere in the story yet though)

It COULD have explained how the same survivor managed to get from the Arks to Earth to the ship, but 🙁

So Lost Colony its a sequel to Genesis 2, as Helena is in Arat, and 1000 had passed since we defeated the King Titan, I assumed the hyperlink would send us to the ship, as the main animation shows, but that doesn’t seem the case as there are already people living in Arat.

So, it’s normal to assume our character has been dead for a while, and had just been “revived” again by the codex.

So the main question is: Who did then defeat Rockwell in Genesis?

And another one: Are we Bob?

Before I get into this, I want to make it clear none of this is an attack on the devs and/or writers. I’m simply venting my frustrations with some of the story decisions.
I think what personally annoys me the most is that, all the ingredients are here for something great. Darius? Cool villain, visually intimidating, amazing voice (but it’s Keith David so that’s a given). The framing device being HLNA Helena telling the story of Lost Colony to Meeka? That can work. Contrasting Mei Yin and Helena’s experiences with grief, and how they deal with it? That can work. And the map is awesome! Like, regardless of any of the story decisions, it’s a really good map.
The two biggest issues arise from over complicating it by setting it after Gen 2, which, quite frankly, feels like a last minute decision, since the entire map and story seem to be trying to be set prior to Gen 1 and 2, and forcing Helena and Mei Yin’s romance into the games, but not actually clarifying if it was something from the island, or if Helena just had unrequited feelings for Mei Yin

Again, none of this is meant as an insult towards wildcard, its writers, devs, etc

Lost colony also known as Arat prime is where the genesis 2 ship was first launched from, it is also known as the sister location of the sanctuary location on extinction. I haven’t progressed fully through lost colony yet so some of my info may not be entirely accurate.

By the time we get to lost colony the genesis 2 ship has already landed on the ark 2 planet called Arat, currently there are people like Santiago and meeka there and homo deus Helena walker who cloned us at lost colony so we can send the catalogue of all people that ever existed to the ark 2 planet.

They want this because they likely don’t have many people on the planet who they can recreate so when we send the catalogue they can put anyone from history on the planet and help them progress as a group including people such as Diana or Mei yin.

The lost king is hinted at being around for at least a 1000 years I believe?? (Correct me if I’m wrong) and he led the people of Arat prime/ lost colony to being a settlement that survived the element overgrowth that killed off earth, he wants us as the player to join his thrall army (thralls are his “children” however are more likely to be cloned by the lost colony technology) I don’t know at this point if they are still human but are descendants of them at the very least.

He doesn’t want us to send the catalogue to the ark 2 planet Arat so we have to defeat him in order to complete our mission.

The catalogue is called, ‘The Engram Codex’ or simply just the Codex.

The lost king has been around for actually over 2000 years since it was about 1000 between the ships launch and the interaction him and Mei yin has and another 1000 years when reseed happened to earth. Even then reseed is still lingering outside so the instant the barrier protecting the city falls, the whole region will be purged of the red and purple element (The red element being discovered deep in the frozen tundra of the region near arat prime and they figured out how to replicate the element. While the reason the purple stuff is there is due to during reseed the aberrant ark Rockwell was on crashed near arat prime and caused pieces of the ark to fall across arat prime, corrupting sections of it with purple element. And note, red and purple element can NOT coexist so that’s why it’s a major problem between them.)

I think the whole point of Rockwell's story there is to show us he can shed his corrupted form and go back to human form to save himself.
The element was definitely talking through him in these notes. So the corruption is deep within him and it can hide itself.

That's how he was able to use the codex, he lost his corrupted form completely and became a clone like we did.
Probably injected himself with edmundium as soon as he got to genesis knowing the red element wouldn't stop him there.
He did it quickly because just before leaving he learned that it was Helena that initiated the reseed protocol. He was a little bit triggered.

Helena is worried about going to the genesis ships core to activate the codex because rockwell is inside of the codex not wrapped around the core.

Hey everyone, I'm going to do a big lore dump over my hot takes on this whole thing with Ext/Gen1&2/LC, who we are, etc. I've been doing a deep dive on Reddit, The Ark Storys (NeddyTheNoodle), and admittingly even consulted GPT from time to time for deep lore bit searches, but I think there's a way the player-centered reconciled somewhat nicely in terms of who we are, the timeline, etc, so I apologize for the megadump in advance (this doesn't go into the crazy Helena stuff, etc, but you get the idea)

So in this POV, the Extinction/Genesis/LC survivor ARE all the same player (consciousness/mind wise). After the completion of Extinction and defeat of the King Titan, we live our some time, sometime after we get digitally uploaded to the Genesis Sim, we then go onto the Colony Ship, take down Rockwell Prime, etc. The main key here is that we DO get from Extinction to Genesis WITHOUT going to Arat Prime/the Lost Colony. This seems contradictory to established lore since Mei Yin had to go to Arat Prime with the goal of accessing the Colony Ship due to it housing the Hyperlumenal link, but there's a distinction here that has to be made: at this point in ARK's lore, this is really probably the only good way to interface with the Genesis Simulation. At this point, Helena is NOT good at the whole respawning, consciousness-transfer thing, so for Mei Yin going to Arat Prime? This makes sense. As for us the survivor however? At this point Helena over 1000 years (if Mei Yin went to Arat Prime ~1000 B.R) has perfected the digitalization of conciousness to the point that we as the survivor respawn as a clone everytime a dilo gets us, we fall off a cliff, etc. Point is - we the player don't need to go to Arat Prime to access Genesis. Communication with Arat (and thus the ship) doesn't explicitly NEED the hyperlumenal link; Helena talking to us over the course of Lost Colony in itself proves this. So how did we get to Genesis? This (sadly) we still don't know, but it can be interpreted that maybe we used the Island Ark as it landed at Sanctuary City at the end of Extinction. The ARK system is exceptionally well integrated with the Obelisks showing us time and time again they're more than capable of consciousness transfer - that's how we play the legacy story to begin with

So to say that these ARKs are capable of accessing Genesis is far from out there. As such, that's likely how we get to Genesis. It can also be thought of that we in Genesis are the conciousness/mind/player of someone else entirely, but that does actually create more plotholes than it fixes

Primarily, the Genesis simulation is a "capstone evaluation test", not a basic training ground. HLN-A doesn't walk us through basic survival skills - it's a brutal test that obvs in-game wasn't even hardly feasible as a single player at times. Also in the trailer for Gen 1, Homo Deus Helena clearly seems to know us; wouldn't make sense if it's not the extinction survivor. Also if the goal of Genesis was to eval an ultimate survivor that could face the challenges of Arat and Rockwell prime, why not pick another Santiago or Mei Yin character if we ourselves are some new noob that has never survived before? No, it picks us because we've already (almost) fixed up Earth once

So in theory, we go from Extinction > Gen Sim > Colony Ship, and then after that? Welp, obviously we drift off into space and that's likely wraps on that specific physical version of us. Who knows - maybe we do land on Arat and live, maybe we burn up on re-entry, or maybe we just die in space over Arat. That part doesn't matter. What does matter is the ship's mission is successful and Arat begins to be colonized. Time passes, and 1000 years after Extinction, the troubles of the Engram Codex arise and Helena (again, don't know - haven't looked into her specifically yet) needs a survivor's help on Earth. As such, she reinstintates the ultimate survivor who's been managing catatrophes all along, us. Thus enter LC where we're the same person mind-wise, but in a new world that has since moved on without us 1000 years later

So that does in a sense tidy up who WE play as - I do think you can somewhat cleanly see how it's just one person all along. Now as far as the Helena lore goes, Rockwell lore, Mei Yin and Diana? Working on that. In a way, the story definetly can work cleanly and logically so long as we challenge lore assumptions we never concretely had proof of anyway. Now as to whether this was the best direction for the LC lore to go? Imo nah, I feel like the "chase Rockwell to Arat Prime and Genesis after he crashes with Aberration" would've been way cooler, but oh well

That's as far as I've gotten for now. Basically, LC is us chronologically after our single, same character has beaten Extinction AND both Genesis DLCs - it just feels very out of place since Gensis hasn't happened in AS:A yet but we're chronologically already playing it's aftermath. Very open to discuss because there's still some retcons of holes possible

Also I will say too that LC does open up another pathway for our single character to have gone through the legacy ARKs, extinction, genesis, ||and NOW also have them be the protagonist of ARK 2 (if it ever happens) as it looks like at the end of LC we do transfer/ascend in some way - likely to Arat. ||||That said, were there much easier ways to get our player to Arat that ||also story-wise would've made much more sense while also being far less convoluted and just a better story (chase Rockwell) overall? Yeah LOL

We'd have had to get to arat prime to get to the ship, and obviously the first time we encounter arat prime is lost colony. We haven't been there yet, helena introduces us to it. And she explicitly mentions that we're a clone from extinction events.

We may transfer to arat but it won't be the same char that did genesis. At best it'd be a separate clone of us with none of our Ark memories and at worse a total stranger.

From a gameplay standpoint for what that's worth we'd have the genesis engrams if we were the same char

The character itself is a clone, as it’s likely clones literally every step of the way, legacy ARKs included. Transfer from one ark to another? Clone. Die to a Giga? Clone. Fall of a cliff? Clone. Cloning is huge in ARK and so the Legacy Arks/Genesis/LC characters consciousness-wise are the same and thus “it’s the same person” but obviously the physical body changes everytime. I do say however the clones share memories as Diana seems to have whenever she was brought back in the Ark extinction notes. Also if we (as a clone when we respawn in game) never kept memories, there’s no way we’d ever come close to winning

I dare say the genesis engrams are more a case of wildcard wildcarding and pushing this DLC to hype Ark 2 before they’re done with Genesis

The other very possible route is that Genesis gets retconned or rewritten in some capacity as the devs have already made it clear they’re not exactly in love with how Gen 1 is particularly went out

True, but in lore Santiago is a very, and I mean VERY odd case in terms of clone memories particularly due to his role in the OG element wars that caused the ARK story to begin with. Basically, it was confirmed that Santiago’s memories over the legacy arks and the Genesis saga have been heavily altered artificially so you may as well treat Ab/Ext Santiago and Genesis Santiago as two different people entirely since that’s what was artificially made to be the case. The other thing that makes me feel we the player are the same mind (maybe not body) with memories is that in lore it is pretty explicitly told when this is NOT the case, and that hasn’t happened to the player yet

No, but she does seem exceptionally familiar with us in an almost casual manner, and speaks to us as if we know her. It makes us being some other person entirely somewhat odd. Really I feel like the link between Ext and Genesis is there, but we just haven’t been told and it’s left purposefully ambiguous I guess - I do remember I think it was Jermey from WC stating something about our implants also carrying with us all our bosses and survivor quotients with us to Genesis so there’s that as well. Tbh? I think it’s just a loosely written story that had potentially to be filled in but didn’t full meet it lol

Originally true, but as with the case of Diana waking up on Earth and remembering her death on Ab, it does also appear that the Arks keep progress of memories made on the arks and in the greater Ark system in general, and it’s not exclusive to JUST the core memories of Earths original clones, especially in a Helena-corrected system

As a whole I think too there’s just a lot about LC that needs to be learned and still a lot of holes left in the story that we had the potential to learn and never have, thus making ARKs lore feel oddly FNAF 💀💀💀

See the way I always viewed it was that Helena’s revivals as u mention do remember everything…and thus so do we because we’re in a sense Helena’s ultimate masterpiece. We are Helena’s hands and she’s been guiding us all along the ARK journey, checking in with us via cutscenes everytime we get to and leave a new Ark. So for me at least I’m p comfy running with memories and all carrying over clones as we the player are most definitely a Helena-era and Helena-based character. As for the Arat thing and being sent from Arat, I don’t think that happened. I think we died sometime after Gen 2, significant time passed, and THEN were summoned again for LC. In LC it already appears Arats got its whole thing going on which would’ve taken some time, but it’s another plot point just not explored at all yet. It also would make sense with the intro cutscene to LC too bc Helena last says we spoke to her in Extinction which even if we went to Genesis is true bc we technically didn’t speak to her there, we spoke to HLN-A which was objectively a different entity all together.

As for your points on writers and continuity? Oh absolutely. If I recall, the Genesis writer was different from even the legacy ark writer and think that it definitely got messy. Now toss in lost colony and does it entirely ruin the lore? Ehh, not entirely imo at least. Does it make it way messier than necessary and kinda of a chore? Absolutely. To put it nicely, ✨choices were made✨ lol. I would’ve been much happier with a story of us chasing down Rockwell after he crashed and originally I do recall LC being advertised as bridging Ext and Gen 1. But that obvs changed at some point and I can’t also help but feel it had something to do with SnailGames and Ark 2 marketing that was out of WC’s control, but that’s just personal speculation

1. She's speeding your journey to arat prime because things where she was are getting critical and several years have passed (not 1k)
2. Rockwell is on the ship, which is in transit (not on arat already)
3. He's got access to the ship's codex so your task is to beam up a backup copy kept at arat prime
4. But something mysterious is preventing that upload

This would allow us to upload to experience the events of gen1/2 after lost colony

They'd also need to remove her reference to contacting us from across the galaxy so that hlna still makes sense

'' BUT that third santiago couldn't have known about Mey yin because he woke up in the end of gen 2 when crash landing on Ark2 and the previous 2 santiagos died before that ! And really only the extinction santiago knew mey ying and he died ! Also where's Diana ? And how tf is she Mother of Meeka ? And where tf was the survivor for the next thousand years after extinction ! And how/why does the survivor suddenly get cloned in the Lost kings Palace ? Just so many things don't add up !

So if we're to assume the theory that somehow, other clones can remember each others pasts if something causes it to trigger. It isn't impossible that the Genesis Survivor is just The One Who Tries Again 2, and dies at the end of Gen2.
30 years later, Helena resurrects The One Who Tries Again 1, that originated from the ARK's and saved Earth, and since they share the same Engramic Matrix, they might somewhat remember the events of Genesis from their other clones memories.

Since the Veilwyn and Armadoggo are both companion tames, and Velociraptor was originally planned alongside Deinochirus, and was thought to be around the same size as the two, could Velociraptor end up as another Companion tame?
