another tip, bolas are your friend. make a few as soon as you're high enough level, so you can toss them at stuff that wants to eat you or stuff that you want to eat. stops them for 30 seconds so you can KO them, run away, or kill em.

i started a new world on genesis part 2, but when i try to tame something it crashes my game and reverts back before i tame the dino
