That it does. I always thought the map terrain doesn't really matter - you just adjust your strategy and try to survive, why bish out about this or that hill being too far to the left? Just find a nice spot and roll with it. And the views are great there!
I'm just like 1/4 way into the map so far, didn't even explore any of the underwater or the big caves, and I already found like a dozen great defendable base spots

This! It's mainly a survival game, not a squad shooter or pokemon for me as well. The challenge of fighting and taming something that is basically a giant lizard and can eat you in two bites is just great, and I don't understand the point of like ... using low difficulty settings or mods that make you tame everything instantly
From the beginning ark was advertised to me by people as a "getting killed simulator", and I love the feeling that at any time something can just come and wreck my stuff up. It adds value to what I have, the possibility of losing it

Exactly! It is also the best teacher. If someone starts with level 1 dinos, no thirst or hunger, 10 second taming he doesn't really learn anything. Or overcome challenges. Just clicks and presses buttons and stuff happens, no thinking involved.

Dinos dont spawn (naturally or via commands)
Have set the spawn multiplier to 2, added -preventhibernation to the arguments
If i use TheIsland (the only config i change is literally the map) We get dinos
now we "could" play on the island, but due to this bug we have had in the past (year or so ago) we have basically overplayed the map lol

Typically you could use Theris with veggie cakes. I've use three Deinons with great success.
The dragons breath attack does more damage to carnivorous dinos than it does herbivores so Theries is probably safest.

Deinons can get under the dragon and attack the legs without taking fire damage. They get a bleed attack that will do like 5% I think. The only thing I had to watch out for were the stupid ptera and little bat guys I cant think of the name of right now.

Hibernation is what you're thinking of, disabling it and enabling proper stasis helps with respawns

Most of the issue is fixed if you disable hibernation in fairness- That's almost 6k hours sp speaking. It does suck, but the alternative to not defaulting is on is lower end PCs and consoles explode by default
Of course, best solution would be hibernation actually functioning, but..
As far as hardware that can actually run it goes- GFN is a fairly small part of that playerbase and there's a lot of other stuff that's out of reach too

I found a workaround for disabling hibernation in single player if playing via geforce now
You have to turn on family view in settings on steam on your pc... choose only games I select in the library option and don't select ark.
This will fail the launch and let you input the command inn the properties before launching it

No, it increases hypo and hyper thermal resistance and also increases resistance to torpidity
It also increases the level a rex needs to be to stun you with its roar, but thats not nearly as important or frequent

your character wont be stunned like a purlovia stun but you'll get dismounted and wont be able to remount for a few seconds.
