Its built on a completely different engine than what ASE was built upon. They had to redo a ton, and the game was a general overhaul of ASE in terms of content. It is very difficult to do game development on that scale. I would argue you know nothing about game development or don't have friends who are professional game developers because you would understand how difficult it is better

@sullen cypress - Most of the build videos are actually 100% vanilla. There's a setting where building isn't so restrictive on mesh clipping, which allows for better decor options, but you can only use that option on single player or unofficial servers. Official servers have always been incredibly rough for people who want to do nice builds, because it treats everything as if you're trying to cheese PVP gameplay and therefore stops you from doing a lot of the tricks that make a base look nice.
