some may be fixed. some probably won't. new ones will also probably happen.

lots of small optimizations and new features at the engine level, mostly new toys for the devs and modders to play with, less restrictions, and some small performance gains. but it is going to bug the shit out of some existing mods and likely parts of the game

like when i would make a game and i wanna add clouds i would enable them make a check if it looks good and check if the fps are fine , would notice it goes bad with it and then look for a different strategy to make clouds or disable them as the default.

it is an intentional tradeoff. there is no way to do 3D clouds that is not costly to performance. ASE had a similar hit; the clouds just looked way worse despite it

and the clouds are tuned about as low as possible in terms of cost without looking horrible

u dont even notice clouds as a 3d object anyway, they are just in the background

its cross platform, the max fps console can get is 120, so realistically if ur using recommend specs from steam for pc and low details u can hit fps ez and the options to toggle clouds/fog off is an option but to the average person they dont care about fps above 60 as the pve community is larger so itd make more sense for settings to be in 60 range than to be set towards getting the most fps

We had a server update, which, among other things, was supposed to improve server performance... wow, great, I was only on Astra for five minutes before it closed... 👍😬

Thank goodness there are other games, because I really don't have the nerve for this shit.... on my cluster game of 20 people who on average always played at the same time on the weekend, now one person... at least six players have left my cluster because of the bullshit that ARK produces every day, because the performance is bad... basically only Playstation and Xbox players... my friends from other clusters tell the same story... will ARK with console players soon be a thing of the past, because the same thing is happening all over the world, especially on private servers... 😭

The funny thing is, there's one update and everything gets better, and then two more follow and it gets even worse again...

Oh don't get me wrong my response wasn't aimed directly at you but more a generalisation as I see a lot of posts along the same sort of topic and as your initial post said you were on 5 mins before it crashed I assumed you were playing else how would you experience that? I did have a cluster but like yourself numbers dwindled due to poor performance, server crashes, lag etc so I stopped paying for it. My point was specific to Astraeos. We have all been reeled into the purchase of it when it's neither ready nor working as it should and personally I think the fact they released it as an official paid DLC at 30% completion is strange business practice. I mean, do we buy cars that are 30% built? 😅 as a community we are an amusing bunch at times but it's frustrating as we all put countless hours into the game and a majority of the issues we are experiencing take longer to get fixed because DLC seems to take the higher importance. Personally I'd rather no dlc at all came out until the game was stable but hey, I suppose they have to get an income somehow

Friend. ASA (unofficial and official) has been broken for Xbox clients since the release. Reports remain unattended to. They don't care and it's quite unfortunate.

well.. to start, a 1650Ti is not a powerful gaming PC or anywhere close to it, and if the rest of the system is of similar age and similarly very low-end, it is likely simply unable to run the game

if you mean what hardware i have, it has no bearing on their system. the game itself needs at least a decent mid-range PC from the last couple gens of hardware, though. this is why games list system requirements, those are a good generalization

anyway, for anyone who actually cares about what it is; it is a very low-power budget laptop (there is no desktop 1650 Ti) gaming GPU (meant for e-sports and such) from the same gen as the first-gen RTX cards, but lacking any raytracing capabilities, with 4GB memory.
ASA's minimum requirements are 8GB VRAM and about 3x the processing power. recommended are 10+ VRAM (12GB is about where it stops being important) and about 10x the raw processing power

So, what’s our new timeline? We believe the safest approach would be to release the engine upgrade to 5.4 (or maybe higher at that point) in Q1 next year. This allows our team to focus on the significant content milestones this year (Extinction, Events, and Wasteland War) and then gently move on to wrapping up the upgrade after the break.

We’re really excited about the upgrade, not only because of the performance improvements but also because it gives us access to better and sharper tools to continue improving the quality of the game. It’s still coming, so hang in there!

For the clusterfug state the game and it's servers are in currently? No easy fix for that. The foundation of the game is broken. And WC refuses to allocate sufficient funds to fixing it. Until it pulls its head out of SG's rear I don't see it improving anytime soon.

They are focussed on grabbing more money. Not on the longevity of the game or playability

It's a first good step. But there's much more wrong with it. Their current business model will never work. Medium settings preset 1080p no problems, I do low 1080p 60 fps no framegen with 2060 super. For high to run okayish you want like 4070.

most ppl dont like dropping to low settings, an in general nvidia cards wouldnt be so bad if they had more vram(they are majority of market) so the average person hates losing out on settings suffering from gpu needing outside memory generating latency in fps as the processing power isnt the issue so the gpus settings are higher than they can typically handle

Hogwarts - 72 average FPS
Forza 5 - average of 95 (with ray tracing)
RDR2 average of 80

and none of this is DLSS

Again its not a 1440p card but it can do it in some titles

game benchmarks are useless tbh because its perfect scenarios that the average person will probably never be in, ie bloatware or other apps running as who strictly has just a game running, usually people have disc or browsers going or music etc diminishing performance in different ways

the only real issues tho for ark to receive actual performance improvements for the typical user is to cut back on the experimental/new features from UE like lumen/nanite which make even games like FN stutter from or get a new server provider that has more modern setup to improve the online experience for the most part as nitrados outdated platform causes most of the issues players experience

undoing the purpase of a regular remaster

they should still give you the option to turn it off (in the UI )

idk i think the wider color range, and wider variety of in game features would of validated it being better than ase without the need for a cinema stand still moment, sure lighting and reflections are cool for realism but at the cost of dropping more than half fps in critical times in a game with combat in both pve/pvp with a system of loss isnt the best trade off

a bit late, but if you have not gotten the card yet, i suggest looking into something else. it is a very bad value card for gaming, it's cores and memory bandwidth are not really good enough to benefit from the extra memory most of the time, struggles quite a bit in ASA specifically.. if you have it already, then the game will certainly be playable at least at 1080p..

probably not what is using VRAM, at least entirely. also allocation is not use. programs tend to allocate more memory than they need and only release it under pressure

thats not how it works though...
the GPU driver will just throw out background tasks when you start gaming
thus that 2GB of VRAM you consume while idling just goes to the RAM and it satys there
thus I (on an 8GB GPU) can actually watch a video in the background while playing ASA

idle memory also tends to be shunted out of the way, from VRAM to RAM, RAM to SWAP

8GB will still chug in ASA regardless 👀

My cluster started a password protected map for events. However some have been able to get on it, and others are not able too. Those struggling with it can access it from main menu, but not from any of our maps. They have tried to checked the box "show private" and still nothing.
Do they possibly have a setting on their end stopping them? Or could it be on our end?

not any trick to it. i strongly suggest learning how to make your own landscape, though. most map materials are pretty specialized to that map

be aware of the usual sanity checks, since ASE is missing just about all the landscape material optimizations ASA is using. try to not use more than 2-3 layers per component, or multiple layers with triplanar samplers (cliffs, mostly)
